If you are rooted, the update will fail to install.
You can go through the process, get the triangle with the ! on it... hold power and hit Vol + to reboot... then copy the update's ZIP file from /cache to your SD card, reboot into clockwork, select "install zip from SD" to install it and reboot..
You'll loose root, so reboot back into clock work and install the exploit.zip from the universal root thread

I got the update this morning. Installed in about 3 minutes. Location is South West Michigan.

Followed KidJoe's directions, but I found nothing in the cache folder /cache. Is the update located somewhere else?

You have to have superuser permission to see the file. I do the copy operation from terminal. Just got done doing this, worked like a charm and I rerooted and reinstalled the Rogue Rana kernel at the same time.

Just got my update as well.

I tried this but it didn't work.
The file that was in the cache folder was named "28dbe910f0b5.signed-trygon-HLK75F-from-HLK75D.28dbe910.zip". I copied it to my external sdcard and tried to flash it and it got an error and aborted.

With mine, I needed to reflash my kernel after flashing the update as well as the root package. Without reflashing the kernel, I was soft-bricked at the red "M" logo.

Me too.. You need your system partition to have the stock apks for this to work. I had to replace my custom framework with the stock framework as well. It patches a boatload of files. It will leave SU alone. But you *will* lose root and CWM recovery - so be prepared to fastboot your recovery back. Then reapply Universal Root.
I had Rogue 143 kernel installed. On reboot - WiFi didn't work (not surprising - as Rogue probably had its own drivers left behind). I reapplied Rogue - and all better again.
Best I can tell - Settings > Wireless/Networks > Mobile Networks > "Verizon Data Service"... If pressed, brings a web page for service setup. This may be new - I don't recall checking it under HLK75D.
Other than that - the update appears benign. There was one curious update file - lte_bp_gota.img @ 24MB. This kinda looks like ROM for the radio card and maybe kernel - but what do I know? It does not appear to be a new bootloader - but @ 24MB - could be all those things.

Is there any way to not run the update and stop the notification from popping up?

To prevent the OTA, put FOTAKill.apk in your system apps.

I copied it from where it originally downloaded to and put it on my SD card and installed through CWR with no problems just had to reflash root afterwards.

[Q] Help: noob apk/sprint updates/restore

hi, and thanks for reading this. If the newest sprint update, DI18?, ever gets released, I am afraid I will not get it. I removed some system apps and I guess the update needs to see those. Thinking I knew what I was doing, here is what I did.
Rooted my Epic.
with titanium i backed up media hub, sprint nav, and nascar. I then removed them.
I saw I needed them so I thought I would restore.
I guess titanium can't restore system apk's?
I start looking for those apk's and only find media hub.
I install media hub, epic says i already have it which i sort of don't really.
media hub is back, and thats where I am at.
I hope that makes sense? I will never use media hub, but I want the epic to be like it was right after root, so I can easily get the next, and future, updates.
thanks
I know someone has posted a link to download all of the stock apps... unfortunately I can't find it! Anyone know where that is?
I personally hate Titanium Backup because I can never figure out what it's doing. The backup function has done the same thing to me - you backup an app, then you think you're deleting the system app and can restore from a backup, but you can't. It's so weird. I would recommend either buying Root Explorer (~$3) or trying out the SDX Stock App Removal (free). You can also use adb push to put the system apps in your /system/app directory. But you still need the apps.
Did you try remounting as rw first?

EDIT: see Firon's post below (#8) it will take care of any modifications you've made as long as you have a stock (odexed) ROM, it won't even mess up recovery or kernel!
thank you all. I will play around with it.
according to titanium everything that was gone is back, except "com.sdgtl.stamhubb" no idea what that is. a google search came back with only a couple hits. Others have removed it, not noticing anything. I do not recall removing that myself.
That's a program name not the APK name... try updating if you're ready and see if it will get past verification... if not see if you can find the APK name and follow the same procedure you did with others.
Here's a signed update that will not trash your recovery, kernel, or root. You do not need a stock kernel for this update.
It will restore only the required stock files/apps and update your modem, so as long as you're on DI07, it should successfully update.
I tested it already on my own phone, worked great.
http://firon.net/xda/SPH-D700-DI07toDI18.signed.zip
This way you don't need to restore a bunch of random files to update.
I appear to be all good. thanks everyone.

The procedure for using this is to copy this to the SD card, rename update.zip, boot into recovery mode, select "apply sdcard:update.zip", correct? Or am I missing a step?

I am also wanting to know how to do this. I got the OTA update yesterday and it failed because I deleted Mail. I would like top know how to manually update to d118 w/out turning my epic into a brick. Any advice would be appreciated.
I believe this requires clockwork recovery not the stock recovery.

Help: Dont laugh - Bricked my phone

Ok so this morning my alarm wakes me up and I noticed I had to unlock my phone to make it snooze, something didnt seem right as my alarm app usually comes up to the front and I can snooze without unlocking my screen. So what do I decide to do half asleep? I decide to reinstall the rom. Here are my steps, and I suggest you dont follow them.
1. Format system
2. Format data
3. Format cache
4. Mount system
5. Reboot phone (Swear this was an accident, as I was trying to navigate to the "install zip from sd card" option)
So my question is ,whats the quickest way to unbrick my phone. It just stays on the "M" boot logo. I found a couple of threads on different sites but want to make sure I"m using the latest method and for the Droid X. Thanks in advance

Looks like an SBF is in your very near future.
Go to the Development subforum and search there.
If you have not applied the OTA 2.2 update, you will need the instructions to SBF back to 2.1 and then apply the 2.2 leak, and load your ROM from there.
If you have already done OTA 2.2, there is also an SBF that will restore /system only. It Might save you.
BE ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU DO NOT FLASH the 2.1SBF if you were on OTA 2.2. If you do, it will be game over.
Let us know how you fair.
One of the first things I did was the 2.2 ota when I got my phone.
Thanks, I will search there and report back.

Can you not get back into Clockwork if you pull your battery?? And they do have a 2.2 sbf that restores your system files.

if you hose /system you won't be able to get back into recovery. Recovery depends on the logwrapper in /system/bin. If it's gone, no recovery boot.
I'm guessing Format System pretty much took care of that

Wildfire stuck on bootloop

Hi all
I have a Wildfire that had Cm7, was rooted and s-offed. As Im selling the phone i thought it would be a good idea if I reset to factory, ready to be sold. However it has now given me a problem.
I reset to factory by clearing the storage on the hboot screen, and now when i turn on the phone it stays on the boot animation. I can get top the hboot menu, but im now stuck.
Any ideas?
Cheers
Have you tried reinstalling CM7/Sense ROM?
No,
Are the steps the same as a normal install?
Yes.

Did you factory reset to remove your personal data or to try get back to sense? You should always factory reset in recovery to avoid these problems. Also it wont return sense, need a stock rom or a ruu for that

I thought when i was doing it, it would just delete all the apps and stuff, so it would be a brand new phone but with cm7 installed.
Ill try and reinstall cm7 and see what happens..........
Right, update
I've followed this http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Wildfire:_Full_Update_Guide#Method_via_Recovery and on step 5, i've selected - Select the option to Wipe data/factory reset.
and now teh screen hasnt moved for about 10 minutes, its on the screen where there is a top hat and yellow arrow...........
help.....
press the power button again then use the trackball. to select everything in cwm.
Also I'm not 100% as I've never cleared storage from hboot but doesn't that wipe your SD card?
if so you may have wiped some files needed by the phone so you may need to reinstall Cm7 or whichever rom, not just factory reset.

ok did you install gapps as well? go back to recovery and factory reset, wipe cache, dalvik cache. then reboot and try again.

pretty sure you need gapps for setup to work
Recommended Solution (by me):
(suppose u want "clear setup" of CM7 stable)
Prepare your SD
Wipe off everything
Copy setup files
download.cyanogenmod.com/get/stable/gingerbread/update-cm-7.1.0.1-buzz-signed.zip
download.clockworkmod.com/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
Get out the SIM card
Boot to recovery
Wipe phone storage
In recovery go to mounts and storage
Unmount /cache
Format /cache, /data, /system
Go back, then to the advanced and Reboot Recovery
"Install" OS
Back in recovery go to install zip from sdcard/choose zip from sdcard
First install update-cm-7.1.0.1-buzz-signed.zip
Then gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
And finally Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
Go back, and power off
Now u re in state "like from the store", that mean that OS is not really installed, there re just files copied and real installation will run on frist boot
Unfortunately, theres a catch
Theres problem with CM7 installation and it can face the problem with GPS
First boot will pop-up "market like" window with all Google apps, my recommendation is to wait, dont install anyting, dont click on anything, just wait, it will disapear... u can safely install them later from the market..
You don't really need the su.zip, since CM7 comes pre-rooted.

That's a good plan, but with 2 drawbacks ... 1 you don't need to flash su. Might break stuff since cm7 is pre rooted. 2 what if something else went wrong and he hasn't booted the phone to check? Then sells, unaware of it being damaged. Buyer comes back angry, ect ect aside from that good tut

Edit: sure guys... u dont have to do that... u can do it later from market... u will be prompt to do that... lol ....its defenetly better way install app like that from market rather than from recovery...
(both ways works in this case, anyway my logic says me that is better install crucial apps like that from recovery..)

he have to decide what will be his next step..
if he decide to boot and try it out he will have to login to wifi, login to google account (to download Maps or GPS status) etc.. etc.. it will NOT be clear any more..
...it really depends on who is the buyer... does he know him ? can they do that together wiht buyers account, etc..

Any way could you please share the torrent file..?
Also tell me where is the location of this downloaded OTA UPDATE file..?
Yeah, refer to the attachment, copied to external storage as it was giving me an error for space. Ota can be found @ \lenovoota folder. Shall send you the link once I reach home.
I've downloaded this update but hasn't installed. For me it's showing lenovoota as empty folder...!!
rebooted right? if so, you need to re-download the update. after downloading, do not click on install, explore thru file manager and it will be under lenovoota (phone storage). copy to external sd, apply thru recovery. i think it is a patch only, hence do not wipe data/factory reset in recovery
I haven't rebooted yet.. It's still showing as same as in screenshot... I've tried installing it once and it ended up in error.. I used ES Explorer..yet it's showing empty folder...
what is showing in system update status, if it is showing update now, means your ota update still available and if it is showing download now, means you need to re-download.
I tried installing again and ended up with this error...

what i did:
1. copied the zip into external sd

5. update from external storage
it took near about 30 minutes to appear language selection menu. let me know

Its a stock OTA, you have to flash it using stock recovery not TWRP.
I extracted the main zip in SD card
Wiped data etc
Flashed system.zip
Rebooted twice *my first bootup was a blank screen for around 20m so I got fed up and rebooted*
Then flahed India.ota.zip
Reboot and done
Worked for me guys.
Hope it works for y'all. Gl.
I used pac man rom previously.

Android is starting... Optimising app xx of xx on every boot

Hi all,
Have had my Nexus 10 with a few years now and rooted it not long after I got it, stuck with stock rom though.
All was fine until I updated to the latest LMY49H Build using NRT (Nexus Root Toolkit) which I always do and it has never let me down.
But with this update I get the swirling balls, Android boot screen then about 10 minutes of "Android is starting... Optimising app xx of xx". I have wiped via settings, via recovery (TWRP and stock), Flash Stock and Unroot (NRT), Root (NRT which wipes data), cleared cache, dalvik, data using TWRP but every time I end up with this optimising apps screen.
I have tried restoring previous versions at setup (apps, wallpapers etc.) and I have skipped all setup options for a clean fresh copy but always with the same result.
I have been looking around but didn't find someone running stock rom with the same problem, If I missed it then I'm sorry.
Please someone help me as I'm going on a trip soon and will need my tablet!
Could be your flash memory is wearing out. When you are using TWRP try copying a file then reboot into TWRP and see if the file is still there. If it is gone it is bad flash memory and you need a new motherboard...

Sorry I don't get what you mean. do you mean to flash a file? (or at least see if TWRP finds the file?)
e.g. copy a file, supersu.zip or something in downloads folder, then boot into TWRP to see if its in the folder ready to flash?
Oh I hope its not the motherboard, the tablet has hardly been used compared to others I know of.
Do you know if its safe to revert to a previous version of android using NRT? LMY49H or even G? I was happy enough with those versions and only updated thinking it would clear the security update (7.2mb) which I ended up doing manually anyway (Unroot & Update, install security update, Root).
I had a problem like this years ago when I flashed a ROM to my old Galaxy S4, flashing a different ROM fixed the problem then, I'm hoping it will now too!
Thanks for your help

Not flash your memory but check your: https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_memory
And yes it is safe to restock (another) ROM.

Right, I mean just copy a file to it that is not already there and rebooting it and seeing if the file is still there.
If it works then you probably don't have a hardware issue.
It is always worth trying to flash a known working rom, though you may need to hard reset to get it working.

Sorry, I know what flash memory is, I mean I didn't know what he meant by copy using TWRP.
I may try flash the previous LMY49H ROM then

OK cool, thanks for clearing that up..
This literally just started when I updated to the new ROM (LMY49J). I have done a full wipe already so hard reset shouldn't be a problem, nothing left on it now anyway. Think I may have done it already tho
Before the update I had a full TV series and a few movies saved into it and it had no problems playing/saving anything. Think I may try stock flash & unroot with LMY49H and see how that goes.. I'm away from it at the moment so hopefully will try tomorrow.
I have a feeling it is saving files though, displayed my old wallpaper when I restored from previous tablet option on setup. Must be saving this picture somewhere after initial download at setup. It is booting up eventually like, just after it optimizes the apps, maybe 5-10min.
What other issues could I be having?
You really have to create or copy something new and reboot the tablet to test. Files and setting will stay in the cache and so give the illusion working unless you reboot.
Also are you doing a clean shutdown via the menu after hitting the power button for no more than 2 seconds? Doing power off without going through menu can cause your behavior.

You have to copy something in recovery mode with twrp. From a different directory (or usb stick to your device) and then reboot to see if it is still there.
