Just make a little research on ebay or google and you will get an idea of the prices.
Where you live for example can be a factor on the price...
Hi guys!
I just replaced my broken digitizer with one I bought on ebay, and the new one works fine.
However, the earpiece speaker does not work. Help!
Do any of you have any tips for me?
PS: I already threw away the old one when because the touchscreen seemed to work fine, so I can't just take the speaker from that.
I just bought a new digitizer off of taobao. It cost me 120 RMB ($19) and comes with a replacement front shell. When it arrives I'll install it. Good luck with your speaker, when I get mine in I'll look at the circuitry to see if I can find anything to help you.
EDIT: Replaced mine, it was pretty easy. On your speaker, did you reconnect the speaker wire correctly? Or did the wire get damaged? That's the only thing I could see that could go wrong with it.

I have the same problem. The speaker in the new digitizer is bigger than the old one.
An image showing the differences
Does anybody know where to get a fitting digitizer/speaker?
Seems like there are no right ones on ebay...
Update:
I've contacted the seller. I will send him the part number of my digitizer (printed on the cable) and he will try to get the right one for me.
The ebay seller is 'easyworldwidetrading'. I will update this post for the folks who need this kind of digitizer.
Update 2:
My digitizer is a "TM1564" model which will be send to me now.

hi, you got a link to buy?
Not really. Just had some email conversation with them/him.
The shop is called 'easyworldwidetrading' on ebay:
http://myworld.ebay.com.hk/easyworldwidetrading?ssPageName=ADME:L:OCE:1181
Haven't got the new digitizer yet. He wrote "It is OK, I will check about it and reship the TM1564 model touch screen to you, is it OK??". I am expecting to get it within the next two weeks. I will keep you updated if you want or you can write him on as I did. Maybe he will start selling the TM1564 on ebay too.
Old speaker with wrong digitizer
Hell,
i wonted to ask is it possible to use old small speaker in new digitizer replacing big speaker?
Is there any other differenc in digitizers other then speaker size?
If i take big speaker out and glue or attach small speaker in the place, can i work like that?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
I had a look at the two digitizers and yes, I think that it is possible. If I can help you with images or anything else just send a msg to me.

Ok, thanks for info, i will try it and report what happens.
Hello, i have tried and it works, so you can use your old speaker instead big speaker in digitizer. I just replaced big speaker with my old small speaker and it worked. You have to center it in digitizer and put something on top of the speaker i used double layer tape otherwise speaker is too much in and it doesn't make connection.
On top? You mean towards the ear?

You know, you don't have to replace the speaker and case. You can remove the digitizer from the case and put it in your old case with the smaller speaker.

I've just ordered it. Will keep you updated if it works.

hi, go on Ebay and buy this as I did once:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320037342618
Its exactly the same speaker that you find inside your s100... I did try on my phone but it didnt resolve the issue, so I guess it was a major soundboard failure and I didnt investigate anymore since I bought a new one ..but for 6 euros I suggest you to try...plus, the seller is in italy and he is really kind and serious.
Thaks for your reply, my problem is only the speaker because i've broken it, i hope to resolve the problem...

Ok, my LCD cracked. I have purchased another one, but I am wondering if anyone can tell me what kind of nightmare I am going to be in for in doing the replacement. (I have a lot of experience in repairing small electrical devices, music equipment, etc... so this isnt my first foray into this type of repair) but I have been looking over this phone, and it doesnt look like its going to be easy by any means, to get the the screen assembly. in fact, it almost looks like I am going to have to go at it through the Back of the phone (pain in the a$$). Any helpfull hints, or tips would be greatly appreciated. I have a couple days to wait, while I wait for my T6 torque driver to come in from order, so I am fishing for tips in the meantime. Thanks in advance!!
Somebody posted a link to a service manual pdf awhile back. I downloaded it then, and I just tried to attach it to this post, but it wouldn't let me. It said upload failed. But if you search around here and at howardforums.com, you'll probably find the original. It detailed the complete disassembly and reassembly of a wizard (actually an HTC Prodigy, but very similar to the Wizard).
You can find the manual at http://www.box.net/public/4enzlr1l8c

I hope this info isnt too late, but I just bought a replacement LCD with the touch screen overlay for my gen 2 cingular 8125 for $65 shipped and insured. I got it off ebay. And that was a buy it now price. Here is a link to there ebay store... http://stores.ebay.com/e2shopstore. And here is an email address I got from him... [email protected]. The replacement LCD with the touch screen overlay for a gen 1 cingular 8125 was $95 shipped and insured.
damn lcd screen.......
anyone know offhand how to tell if your 8125 is gen 1 or 2 without disassembling the damn thing first?
One thing the manual doesn't tell you...
The volume slider tab might be vulnerable to less-than-careful extrication of the board. It's a pretty flimsy piece of plastic when you put pressure on it in a way it wasn't intended....
The other thing I found out is that a wedge shaped plastic tool for the case is a must. I bought one, and I am so, so glad I did. Otherwise you may break the tabs that hold your face plates on, or at least scratch 'em up pretty badly. A cuticle tool (for fingernails) might work pretty well if you don't want to spring (more), as long as the plastic isn't harder than the plastic of the face plates.
Volume slider broken
Blast! Some small metal thing pinged out when I was putting my Wizard back together again, and now my volume slider is flapping about loosely.
The manual has absolutely no detail about how this tiny piece of metal fits back in. Looks like there is a tiny switch with a miniscule vertical slot inside the wizard around that area.
I swear I posted this last night but is not appearing so here goes again:
Has anyone replaced the touchscreen only? Is it hard to separate from the LCD? My MDA had a dead center and I'd like to fix it while spending as little as possible, but if its going to be a problem I'll get the full LCD.
Ok does this version of english bother anyone else?
OEM Cingular 8125 PDA Touch Screen, it does not includes the main LCD. Please according the parts which showing in the item pictures.About my this item,it is just a touch screen, not the full LCD. It is glassy cover on the color LCD. It's for the one whose Dopod 818 i-Mate Jam touch screen was broken, or out of order, we can provide this replacement...So the buyer need not buy a full expensive replacement LCD,just for the touch screen problem...
Last time I bought something on ebay from a guy that talked like this I got a fake h700 that hat the bluetooth range of 2 ft, couldn't even wear my phone on my belt
anyone have the service manual for the cingular 8125? that htc wizard looks different than mine, mine is round? thanks

Towards the beginning of this thread, there is a post with the link to a PDF. I checked it out, and it's for the prodigy but it looks almost exactly like my 8125 wizard.
almost... should taking it apart be the same? I don't want to ruin something, I would prefer to have the manual for my phone exactly.. thanks
Prodigy not exactly same as 8125
Took a good look at the pdf manual for the Prodigy...it's not close enough to the 8125 for me to feel comfortable disassembling the 8125.
I need to replace the clear screen only...got the tools (incl. plastic wedge), but will have to find an 8125 manual first.
The manual is pretty much right on except in one area. For the Wiza200 (t-mobile MDA), the backing is taken off from the back/side areas. For the Wiza100 (Cingular 8125), you need to take it off near the border of the keyboard. I posted some pictures a few months back in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=266382
I'm not sure how difficult it is to seperate the LCD and digitizer as I replaced the whole thing. And, as stated before, the volume slider is pretty fragile. It can break if its not seated in the actual button.
have you seen any exact manual, instruction, guide how to do that or just pics?
Thanks,
Tom
My lcd cracked a couple days ago...for no reason...i don't remember dropping it or anything....just have a long crack across the screen.
Now, the left half is black while the right half is barely visible. Paperweight....
Anyone in the NYC can fix this ?
I'll be working on my next week so i'll let you know.
Peace,
Tom
I bought a Cingular 8125 from a seller on another forum and it arrived with a broken LCD. Also, the battery is dead and can't be charged. (Not to mention the missing stylus and lots of scratches on the case... all for a "like new" phone... but I digress.)
I was able to borrow a battery from a coworker with the same phone, and it does power on. The screen is all white with multicolored splotched around the cracks in the LCD. I was also able to hook it up via USB and browse it through Activesync, so I'm guessing the phone is running.
Is there any other way I can test that it's going to work before I invest in a new LCD/digitizer? Another coworker mentioned there might be an emulator I could run on my PC to control the device and place calls with it, does such a thing exist?
Finally, does anyone have experience with a particular ebay sell of LCDs that they could recommend? I've seen a bunch listed in the $50-$60 range, including shipping. Does anyone have any suggestions on a source for replacement LCDs other than ebay?
Thanks,
-Brett.
your not sol yet.
Well to answer your questions in order;
Yes there is something that will let you control and make calls useing your computer, its called SOTI Pocket Controller, look for it.
I bought a mda with a broken lcd on purpose cause after looking into it i found that replacing the lcd isn't so hard. i bought my lcd from ebay and my phone is running great ever since the repair. your going to need to get the service manual and a new lcd ofc, also a torx #5 (type of screw driver) and a #0 phillips head.
good luck with your phone

2) Let my mobiler install cabinet on your phone
3) Run it an click on the system tray where is the symbol of the phone and cable and select open mobiler, this will show you your screen.

Hey Brett, I've got some info you need to look into when buying a replacement lcd, there are two types that i know of, their distinct differences are the fact that one has a black flex cable, and the other has a gold one(One is the first generation lcd, and the other is the second generation). I made the mistake of not opening my 8125 after i bought it the same way you bought yours, with a broken screen... I bought an lcd with a gold ribbon cable(back when they were $90+) and it <i>worked</i> with my 8125 except the colors were mixed a.k.a. not as they should be. I bought another lcd(yes, another $90+ since the seller didn't offer a return policy) which <u>matched</u> the color of the old cracked lcd that came in my 8125(the ribbon/flex cable was black). And all was perfect!
So if you haven't yet, take your 8125 apart and make sure you know what lcd it has. Ebay listing for these lcds are pretty definitive on whether they use an lcd with a black or gold ribbon cable. Good luck!
Thanks for the tip! I was checking them out on ebay and I did notice that some sellers made it clear there was a difference.
I bought a T5 torx driver this weekend and managed to get the back of the phone off, exposing the main board.... but didn't get any further than that. I'll have to check the color of the ribbon before I order.
Do you remember if yours was a refub LCD or not? I've seen all but one seller (who was located in Hong Kong) are selling refub units. I'd prefer a new one, but I also don't want to wait 2 weeks to get something form Hong Kong. Any problems with a refurb?
Thanks,
-Brett.
I'd like to know myself the difference between a refurb unit and a new unit. Maybe they replace the digitizer of faulty lcds and then resell the "fixed" units, or maybe there is some other thing about the lcds that make them impossible to sell as new~
Btw my lcd (as it was claimed by the seller) was new. I got it in the mail from Hong Kong inside of bubble wrap and Hong Kong Newspaper post. I looked at the lcd and it sure <i>looked</i> brand new, new enough to immediately apply a screen protector before i installed it into my pda(so that the screen protector covers ALL of the screen and doesn't miss the corners or the sides, it's the best way to apply a screensaver if you ask me).

ewww...vista.
i dont even think microsoft really supports vista the way you would like for using your MDA. Best way to do anything to your phone (and what most of these roms seem to require) is Win XP.
For some reason microsoft wanted to change the way things were handled and I for one am not really happy with it.
Figured this might be the best place as ever. Before I part my Wizard and pay some large fee for a 8525.
Has anyone seen problems with the screen flickering and going mostly white/gray (with lines).
I had dropped my phone a few weeks back - I bought a replacement screen on Ebay and swapped it out - worked great for two weeks. All of a sudden, on Saturday night it went from working to just flickering. Could the new LCD's cable have gone bad? Anyone seen this?

I had problems the first time I replaced my screen where I turned it on and it was completely white. Turns out I didn't have the connector properly seated. I took everything apart and made sure to fully seat the cable into the connector close the little clamp securely. After that it worked fine.
It might be worthwhile to take the phone apart again and make sure the ribbon cable connector hasn't come unseated.
Good luck!

Thank you for your help. I have now replaced the LCD from China but the expansion slot would not recognise any card. Did I do something wrong? Thanks in advance.
Hi,
I'm new to this forum so i'd like to say hello to everybody first
I have a g1 with the screen cracked. When I say the screen is cracked I mean that upper glass area; The lcd does not seem to be cracked in any way so there is no bleeding at all. Touch still works very well even in the cracked area.
I seem to have come across only 1 ebay auction that was selling a digitizer and everywere is absurdly expensive to buy. Any ideas where i can find one ? At 189$ i'm half way to buying a new phone tbh.
Also I saw in this forum that some people had the same problem and people told them that they would need to replace both lcd AND digitizer, however i clearly saw in the htc dream service manual that they are two separate parts with separate part numbers. Is there some particular reason for this ?
Just to clarify, can any tell me the order in which components are placed in the htc g1 ? Im assuming they are as follows:
Touch Screen Digitizer
LCD Screen
cover and hinge
in that order..Am I right in my assumption ?
Thanks,
Mewt
Bump. I would like to know as well.
Check it out:
This listing just got put up on eBay today. This guy has 50 digitizers for sale:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=230336383436
If you are sure the LCD is intact, you should just buy the Digitizer. The LCD can easily be seen by opening up the phone.
http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-T-MOBILE-GO...5|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318|301:1|293:1|294:50
I can confirm you can replace the digitizer WITHOUT replacing the lcd.
I just did it. A car ran over my G1 a while ago and I've been lurking on ebay ever since waiting for digitizers to be listed. With a new digitizer, a Torx screwdriver and about an hour I have just replaced the broken one and the new one works perfectly.
Of course that also means I now have a spare G1 since I bought another one in case I couldn't get a replacement.
I will be doing the same shortly.
Actually this is the best price I have found on a digitizer
http://www.perfectesell.com/gog1glscdico.html
Any tips on replacing the part? Does the phone have to come completely apart?
I can't buy from that buyer as he doesn't ship to Malta but thanks, now I know what I need to look for and will be doing so. Hope I can get my g1 working well again...I just hate trying to read messages with cracks in them
Thanks all for your replies
Its quite fiddly but as long as you have the manual you should be okay.
There's a few things tho. Page 23 doesn't really show you how to disconnect the camera very well. On the underside of the main board there is a connector like the one for the screen. It is released by flipping the paddle lever think 90 degrees down. Otherwise the camera connector gets pulled out when you remove the mainboard.
It should go without saying you don't need to disassemble the bottom "chin" part when you remove it. Oh and page 24 has an error, those aren't the 2 screws you need to remove, its 2 long ones, one is in the top right of that picture on page 24 the other is to the right of the one circled.

hey would you say the average person would be able to change the digitizer or do you have to be a handy man.. taking anybodys replys ONLY if you''ve done it
Well I guess I am the average person but then I've taken many a pc and laptop apart and put it back together again so maybe not...
There's nothing that requires great skill in it. As long as you're gentle, patient and careful (taking apart a G1 is like making love to a beautiful woman...). Keep track of what screws came from where and don't try and force anything.
Remember you need some torx head screwdrivers. but you can get these on ebay for very little.
I have to admit I feel a bit smug when I see forum posts from people who advise you sent it back to T-Mo and pay a $100+ excess for them to do it. As if!
Ah, my screen is just gently scratched, but it's annoying sometimes. I might look at into this if it gets any worse.
Just looking at the back of the screen when the G1 is open, it looks like I'd have to take the whole phone apart...are there guides I can look at?
Here is some sites that helped me out.
This is an easy to ready explanation to what you are looking at.

This is where I found the service manual a while back
http://www.intomobile.com/2008/12/18/dissect-your-t-mobile-g1-with-the-htc-dream-service-manual.html
This was where you can find the digitizer. (I dunno which one it is... but I think its the clearpad) only thing I could not find a match on part numbers anywhere
http://www.synaptics.com/solutions/products
And this is the address and Houston local number for HTC America. (i didnt check the number so i'm 72.34763% sure its right(just do a little social engineering to get to where you need to be.) )

same boat here. cracked digitizer. seems like the g1 is the only phone, for which you can't buy one.

hey i have a question i replace my digitizer but now the bottom part of the touch screen... closest to the menu button doesnt work. what do you think can be wrong
Pull it apart again using the service guide section 2.2.3 and make sure all connections have complete contact. If something is not sitting right the circuit may not be ringing out correctly. Once you have gone through all the steps 2.3.2(lcm assembly) and everything looks connected properly, assemble, reboot and test. If it is not fixed you may have a bad digitizer I'm hoping for the fact that most of your screen is working its just a connection problem.

When you reassembled what did you do about the tape and gaskets? Were you able to buy new or did you use something else? Thanks!

i'm willing to try replacing it myself as well and i was wondering how much your purchased your new digitizer for. would the one suggested earlier at this link: http://www.perfectesell.com/gog1glscdico.html be good? it seems a lot cheaper than other ones and i dont want to buy a faulty and cheap one that may not work as well or break. any other tips would be GREATLY appreciated. TIA!
Here's the correct page on the Perfectesell site:
http://www.perfectesell.com/htcgog1glscd.html
Same price ($65) as the ebay auction that ended.
I dunno what that $12.95 thing was... price doesn't seem right for glass, touch sensing wizardry

thanx i took it apart again and that fixed it... i have 2 more problems 1 major 1 not. i dont know but i normally got 3g service in my house and now i dont what could b the problem.
second is that the screen doesnt swivel smoothy as before
u8800-51 touch screen bottom not responding
hi all
i am new and ignorant
(love the xda rules vid)
just bought second hand at&t impulse 4g (u8800-51) , with the bottom half of the screen, not responding to touch.
the top half works
i was told that it happened when the device got dropped.
the picture is good.
got stuck in at&t logo boot loop, and erased back to original on the android rescue screen. and its booting again
tried to reassemble the screen , but no change.
will replacing the glass plus digitizer solve it?
is there a difference between u8800 and u8800-51 screen parts? (or any other hardware for that matter?)
thanks alot
Switching the touch screen (glass) will fix your problem.
In which side do you have the notification led on? Right or left of speaker?
If it is on the right, you probably have the smaller speaker system (that's good to know if you are buying with the frame).
There is no difference in the sockets, however I have seen all Impulse 4G have the Synaptics version (black flex cable), so it would be better if you'd buy that. Some of the eBay sellers are offering the official AT&T touch screen, with the logo on it, so that would be a safe place to buy from.
-EDIT-
Some more things to know:
When they are selling with a frame, you can see it on the picture and they usually mention that somewhere too. If you took the phone open, it's easy to tell if it's big or small by looking whether it looks like this (big speaker).

thank u so much
after a long study of the different pics of sellers, i remain a confused, because i finally found enough pics
(attached)
to realize that my model always have the black cable u mentioned which comes with a SMALL speaker, while the big speaker always come with the yellow cable, but alas, my device comes with a black cable, but big speaker,
so should i go with cable color + name mentioned (AT&T Impulse 4G) + AT&T logo, (which all calls for a Small speaker) OR , should i go with speaker size (big) ?
regarding my indicator position, it is to thr right when i look from the inner angle (like the photo of the big speaker that u added

That's the digitizer only. I don't think it's glass really, but it's easier to say it is.
I replaced mine by taking off the old digitizer from the frame. It came off pretty easily, it just needs some patience to take it apart without breaking it.
If you don't want to mess with glue, I'd suggest this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Digitizer...356?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4abfc0011c
It's without the AT&T logo. I cannot guarantee it will fit though, there is always this chance Huawei modified something else between the U8800 and -51.

Takes over 15 days. I guess you can use adhesive tape to stick it.

i prefer not to risk peeling, for breakage, and gluing, for moisture and mess.
i am starting to think that my digitizer was not original, and that is why it failed.
and feels like plastic. i found an original part at cellulardr.com for about 70$ vs. the 10-$15 ebay ones.
so maybe the seller put on impulse 4g, a big earpiece frame, with a yellow cable digitaizer. what a mess!
i attach a pic of big vs small earpieces. i believe the ''big'' is the one with golden terminals.
i think i will get a cheap ebay small earpiece frame with a black cable digitizer (like the original had, i believe) , with a 5$ small earpiece as extra.
god. why do i feel like Sherlock Holmes ?

This is only with glass.
You can buy a used one for under $70 or an OEM frame with glass. In my op, its not worth to fix.

i am sorry - what is not worth fixing ?
yes, i am going to buy a small earpiese frame with black cable plus a small earpiece,
but seeing my old digitizer, i am starting to think (because of the price difference from the original) that all these E-bay so called "glass" , 10-15$ , advertized digitizers ,are actually made of plastic ??
but i will not "invest in an expensive glass before i am happy with the new device.
so far i have not seen used original digitizers.
if i am happy with the device, i might start looking for a"for parts" u8800-51 deal on E-bay
thanks again

Yes, but $70 and you have a brand new one. Basically, fixing it is more trouble than selling it.

the cheapest new impulse 4g i could find cost 150$. i do get your point, but i already invested time and money on it and i can't sell a device that i am not sure of his condition. also its a little bit exciting for me if i manage to make it work.
is there any way to bypass the faulty touch screen ,for sake of testing the phone,
with some external device such as usb\Bluetooth mouse and keyboard ?
