i have lost all faith in xda - Fascinate General

I've noticed every new rom people wanna talk **** about... for example. Enyos new two expresso ...... so what if its a stock i9000 port. We should be encouraging our few devs we have left... not constantly downing them.... if people wanna complainso damn much why don't they make their own rom ...
Sorry just had to vent some about the dumbasses in our forums

I agree. There are a lot of people who do not realize how much effort the developers really put into making these phones better and they do it all for free.
The people on here need to take a course in giving constructive criticism, rather than dogging the rim,or app, or what-have-you all together. This forum isn't a place just to get free help and stuff for your phone. It's here for us to help each other, not rip on eachother.

I've been using xda since the omnia i910 was first released. And I've never seen the forums as bad as they are here. Its sad the way people act now

From what I can tell, the only hostility going on around here is towards enyo. It's easy to see why the people act the way they do towards him too, in fact there's threads describing why they do.
As far as any other negativity...it's easy to want to talk **** to people asking questions that we already have stickies dedicated to. This is (was) a developers forum after all.
I agree there's no reason for hostility on these forums sometimes, but most of the time it's perfectly logical AND necessary for people to learn.

The reason this goes on is because the dev you speak of takes other people roms, add some tweaks, scripts and what not, then calls it is own rom. Most members here can do this, but they would not claim the rom as his/her own. The ethics are off and thats most likely because of him/her being so young. I commend the efforts, but a true dev builds things from source and anything thats kanged, proper credit is given. Besides most everything I read is just a friendly ribbing anyways. If you op cant understand this, then by all means leave, and dont let the door hit ya in the a** on the way out. By the way where is the popcorn

Plus, there are valuable lessons to be learned from all of the trolling:
1. Don't make outrageous claims that you can't deliver on (5000 Quadrant? Really? No spoofing the Quadrant app? Dual-core beast phones don't even do 5000)
2. Don't build hype with shameless self-promotion (WebOS or iOS on the Fascinate?!? Come on...)
3. Never give out ETAs because you never know what might come up.

I would think by now that the Enyo debate had been extensively covered.
In turn for (most) people laying off the trolling and flaming, i dont think we need people to keep popping up to defend him all the time either.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion, yes, but to blindly defend someone without any knowledge of why is just plain assinine in my eyes. If you ask me its all foolish, just my $0.02
Edit: also to lose faith in an entire site because of one forum...wow. I too have been here since the i910 and honestly its not a whole lot different other than alot of good contributers leaving. However the community as a whole has always been a tad on the boorish side, thats how forums tend to work.

rootzwiki is my main forums now...
i know enyo says alot of outrageous ****... but so have many other devs who got quite a bit of money in donations and disapeared....
atleast enyo is making something....
his expresso pyramid is the fasted rom ive ever used on my fascinate....and ive tried every rom avaliable

Who's made a lot of money and disappeared from the Fascinate forum? jt1134 didn't exactly rake it in, and he still develops for the Fascinate on Rootzwiki. Adrynalyne left the Fascinate forum because he got a Thunderbolt and then left XDA entirely because he was outraged by inconsistent behavior from the Thunderbolt mods. Most others are still here or returned to the Fascinate AFAIK
Has anyone seen John Connor?

When I say alot have left I am speaking generally over the years. Between leaving for other forums or starting up teams with their own site or just dropping the cause all together for one reason or another.
The fascinate forum in particular will, I fear, continue to fall in numbers only because this device does not have the staying power of some of the others mostly due to the timeframe of its release and higher profile releases around that same timeframe. I mean seriously, look at the Droid Eris. It was big reds first android phone and is still receiving new and updated material. The Fascinate will never have that following.
That is not saying it is a bad device, but until the leaps made by Jt fell into place it was a pita to develop for (outside of cleaned up TW Roms). Unfortunately by that time most had moved on to newer devices.
"I didn't say that...my Fascinate has a tiny troll inside it."

Sorry, hesh.monster, but I was addressing that question to bones420la, because I don't have access to the financial records and bank statements for each of the devs, therefore I don't know which ones "got quite a bit of money in donations and disappeared"

I figured but I've got my panties in a knot over all these "white knights" (as stated in the Enyos' lastest "Rom" thread). I wasn't gearing my response toward you so much as all of "them". No harm done

So what's with all the crying on XDA's EVO threads lately?

I remember the good ol days when people just dropped by, downloaded some stuff, left nice comments and went about their day. Lately, bout the last month or so, the threads have been filled with "I donated a dollar, I want my ROM" or "can I get an ETA on this?" (which is the rudest question I've ever seen here) or just people arguing or one-upping each other. I fear we're losing the community-based friendliness of this site as the days go along.
As we can see, a few devs have had enough and already left. How much longer is everyone gonna keep this up? It's like I visited XDA one day and it turned into an AOL n00b forum. It sucks. I want the old XDA back where people didn't cry about CM missing deadlines (they just visited again later and if a new CM was up they were happy, if not they just came back later), people didn't complain about Damageless losing his job and having to focus on his life instead of ours, people simply enjoyed what was available instead of hounding devs about when stuff is coming out.... I must say it'll be released when it's released!
I just don't understand what's so difficult about giving those who give us the time of our lives time to breathe and enjoy their lives too. It shouldn't matter whether a "donation" of a $1 or $1000 is made - the devs (and some of the senior members, shucks, even like me) deserve a lot more respect than what's going around lately. At the end of the day, I just don't want to suffer for following the rules when others decide to wreck it for the rest of us.
Anyway, I just had to rant. I still <3 XDA and always will. This place really has changed my life forever.
That is very well said. Devs should be praised not hounded.

I have seen this before with Forums as the user-base grows and popularity increases, which Android brought many non technical users into the smartphone era, your impatient/arrogant/immature user-base grows as well and since they are still learning how things work but want it now since this is the era of entitlement your gonna get alot of asshats wanting there ROM now or there FIX now. It sucks but It happens.
One thing about XDA is its never been that user friendly or at least as long as I have been here. Seems like a few people come here just to be assholes. They know everything and even if you agree with them they will still act like dicks. With that said I try to stay out of those situations. Sit back in my thread and sometime comment on topics. This. The Evo was the first time that an android device really blew up with the non-technical crowd, and of course XDA has a reputation, so all of the new users came here. Unfortunanly, they don't really understand what it means to be a member of a development community though, and look at XDA like it's just another smartphone forum.

Exactly. What people don't understand is this is a hobby. We are not making a living doing this, and I do not get paid for this. Yes its true that we do receive donations but not NEARLY as many as I think people assume.
imho...these forums which used to be filled with great developers turned into a forums filled with the developers wanting compensation or in prettier words "beer money" for their time and effort instead of "joy and fun" or "hobby" of making roms and is slowly becoming more "pay-to-play" and if you don't pay, they take their business elsewhere to their own "pay-to-play" forums....just my own observation going from windows mobile development to android....

He is correct I have seen a few developers take their ROMs elsewhere (create their own website) but I'm not sure it was about money. I have donated to a few chiefs because I understand the time that goes into making these ROMs. Its time I could be spending with my kids. People seems to feel chiefs are obligated to do this for some reason. I do it because I like it not because I want to get paid. I get paid at work. When people complain at you all the time it turns it into work and then it isn't fun anymore.
Screw all of you....I payed my turkey sandwich and a hooker! I want my damn daily updates with a rom so spectacular that it will make me a full course meal.
Of course im playing but i cant help but agree with you. I find that i spend more time sorting through "non searchers" than anything else. I hope to see this calm down over the next year. XDA for the Vibrant is dead.. I love our Dev's!!

I guess when your phone just runs amazing it is getting hard to make it better. I keep trolling XDA for something worth reading or trying but nodda.
Thanks Dev for all that you have done but are we coming close to the end of development for the Vibrant? Any insight as to what might be some things to look forward to in the future?
Updated - Changed the title because I meant no disrespect
When I say no ROM worth trying I guess I need to be more specific. I currently run Bionix-V and right now don't see any ROM that is a huge improvement worth switching from.. But to clarify there are several very good ROM's out for our Vibrants..
maybe you should wait til they release a source code for 2.2
actually, just leave now.
Wow dont you think thats a slap in the face. I mean I actually think eugene is working with source first of all.
Secondly I "hear" they are working on gingerbread as there is a proof of concept in the development forum.
So once again.. dont you think this is a slap in the face to those who are working are to bring more features to us?

WHAT???? "dont you think this is a slap in the face to those who are working are to bring more features to us?"
Are you smoking crack? I have donated and appreciate everything the Dev's have done and are doing to make our phones experience better.
But since the last few solid ROMS have come out for 2.2 there really has been little new development that actually improves your phones performance.

I'm confused by this post. Actually I'm very shocked by this post.
Did you even look at the Dev forum? There are a ton of ROMS and the ROMS available are continuously being updated , some even are getting 2 or more updates per week!
How can you say the Vibrant is dead?
I can answer my own question:
1. You are just trolling OR
2. You need to learn how to use your reading comprehension skills and read more
Because there is plenty of action going on for development for the Vibrant. Give it some time man. The source code that is in the Dev section is a leaked one that Eugene got his hands on. Samsung hasn't even officially released it yet. Once they do there will be a swarm of updates to these ROMS we have already AND there will be new ones.
IDK, sorry for my rant. I usually don't even reply to these kind of seemingly troll posts but you probably should just take the other guys suggestion and just leave the forums. Because you just slapped the great Devs that help us all make our Vibrants one of the most customizable phones around.
Don't bash any devs with a statement like yours, and then at the end of your post thank the devs. That brief "thanks" to the devs doesn't take away the SLAP in the face you just gave them
PS. Just for your info and a reply to your last statement about performance enhancements to the Vibrants... My phone KILLS my girlfriends stock Nexus S in performance and looks in every way possible. I can't even bog my phone down and I'm not even overclocked. I'm running a "stock" Bionix V 1.2
stop feeding the trolls
Ha.. This is funny.. People get fired up and I am not even attacking anyone. I just was trying to strike of some interesting conversation on future project or things to look forward to in the near future.
Geeze peeps.. Chillz the hell out...
It's a trap!
Let me get my .02 in before this thread gets justifiably locked.
To the OP, what are you looking for? To say this forum is dieing is a joke.....right??
At one point there was only TW, Eugene, and Master posting up Roms; NOW we have about 6-7 options. The theming section is plastered with new options. 2.2 just got released and it opened up more doors.
If you think it's dead then kindly depart, you and all you have contributed will be sorely missed. /sarcasm

No, you are not attacking anyone directly but you were also not "striking up interesting conversation". "forum is dead" and "no roms worth trying" is a matter of opinion which you are entitled to but not exactly a kind way of asking what's in the Vibrant developments future.

You have "striked" some conversation for sure. And my post wasn't attacking you so I'm assuming you weren't talking to me in your last reply?
Unfortunately your post comes across kind of negative towards the community of Devs that work very hard to keep giving us new stuff for our phones.
So maybe you had very good intentions and the words just came out looking bad in your post.
I mean it is very hard to express intent thru words on a page. With actual conversation in person your words come across better. So maybe you can edit your original post if you didn't mean it to be a slap in the face to the community of devs here?
If not then that's fine too. Everyone is entitiled to their opinions.

Is the Vibrant General not the place to just have open discussions? Why all the neg responses? I'm a die hard fan of this forum and our vibrant community. I was just trying to strike some conversation.
I agree we have themes out the butt.. Great I have themed my phone to death..
Your wording is not very good, I'm sorry to say. When you say "there are no ROMs worth trying" it sounds like you're saying "there are a bunch of ROMs but they're all shyte." If that is not your intent, I hope you change you original post, because that's exactly what it sounds like.

This thread seems kind of silly since we've just started seeing kernels built from 2.2 source. It's kinda been the Holy Grail for many of us since the Froyo leaks began. What are you complaining for?

Ive had my Vibrant since its release on July 15th, this is my second device because a few hours out of the box it just bootlooped.
I love it, and i love the dev community thats here for it, but im tired of hearing people complain about stock updates that their not gonna use. "samsung doesnt update their devices", "This is my last samsung phone"...Are you serious? Why complain when you've had an awesome dev community since the start. People know their not going to run stock but the complain anyway. Imo, I think people are just jumping on the Samsung Hate bandwagon. This is an awesome phone and community, And our Vibrants still murder more than half the Android Comp on stock 2.1, you guys saw the youtube reviews right?.
Why dont we give more praise instead of more ungreatfullness because this just sickens me.

Well said. This is a beast of a phone when run on custom roms, and our amazing devs are doing some great stuff to double the performance. Kudos to them. But some people simply live to whine and ***** around in their daily life let alone an internet forum.

The folks who have taken the time and energy to mod this rad device are plain and simply: awesome. Thanks to everyone at <TW> and EDT (my favs) for tweaking my phone in ways that I never could. Thanks to all who have worked on this device and produced a dozen + other ROMS. And thank you to the new Devs who are willing to continue tinkering with their own, hard earned, phones for the benefit of us all.

Yeah and you 2 are probably some of the whiners he is talking about. If you don't have anything positive to contribute to his post then don't comment. He made a very valid statement. I haven't been a member for long, but I have seen many threads that were either titled something about never buying samsung again or whining about not getting stock updates. So unless you have something constructive to contribute to this thread then don't come in and bash him for just trying to point out that the phone is awesome and that people are worried about stock updates when they don't even use them

Disagree. This post has to reasons. To get people to see how great their phone is and to get them to be grateful for all the hardwork here in xda.
Agreed, the phone is great and still can be considered in top 5 phones out there. However I will like stock gingerbread for the sake of GPS drivers and Voodoo Kernel.

I never said his statement was invalid. I'm simply pointing out that threads like this often turn into flaming etc. People posting hate threads are a problem on this forum. People replying to those threads with flaming is also a problem. People posting thread that are prone to start flame wars are also a problem. Threads like this pop up all the time and more often than not it ends up being a flame war. I agree with the OP. People should take the phone for what it is or stfu and leave. But making this forum better isnt just about shutting down flamers when they start crap.. its also about not feeding their raging and/or posting things that invite them to start trouble. Constructive enough for you?
If you haven't been here for long than maybe you have yet to see the pattern. And maybe you should at least thing about what I said in my initial post before resorting to insults. While your at it, I invite you to find a single post of me whining about anything. Because I promise you wont.
When Samsung releases updates then our devs can tear them down and make them better. Without that source code it's very difficult to make the custom roms that are so friggin awesome. This is why we don't have a totally stable and working 2.3 rom out yet, and we probably won't until Samsung makes the stock 2.3 upgrade available.

I, personally, have nothing to hate on the phone about..
We all complained for 2.2, but knew that our roms that we already have are FASTER and BETTER, when we did get 2.2 stock, no one used it, it was used by devs to probably put a few things in their roms, but after that, its gone.
The GPS sucks, i get it, thats their fault, they made a mistake, other companies have before as well (Apple with their antenna) I don't use GPS i have a GPS so i use that instead of my phone.
Besides that, i can complain for probably... no flash for the camera, but thats it.
MY phone is PERFECT, with the devs all that hard work, and i'm talking about the REAL devs, not the fags who theme and call themselves devs.
(no offence to themers at all, themes are themes, and are not meant to be a full rom, with the exception of Jellette's Bi-Sidekick ofc, it had to be a new rom even though its a theme)
I, Thank you all developers for sticking with us through the hard time that Samsung has given the devs by not releasing the source code, etc.
Thank you.
Just a wee note to remind people to keep it friendly. It's becoming a bit of a habit having to close threads like this because of childish and inappropriate behaviour.
Don't let this one go the same way.
Thanks...
Agreed! Good points!

How do we make this forum better?

Ok, guys. I have not been a user of the Fascinate forum for very long now, but coming from the Droid X section, I have to be honest in saying that this forum needs some help.
That being said, I do know that there aren't a lot of Fascinate owners, especially on this site. Its just sad that I can go and sometimes need to go over to the Captivate forums to get answers. Sad panda.
I would like to get every ones opinion on how to make this forum better, and once the ideas are put into one place, go ahead and have them implemented.
No excuses fellas. Lets make this forum better for all of us!
Thanks in advance!
This may be more directed to a mod than you, but if we keep ONE thread specifically for a lulz thread where we can troll and stuff would be great. Also issue infractions if we troll other threads. I love trolling but there's plenty of times where trolling is unnecessary and possibly hurtful. With all the lulz around that ONE thread would stay busy, while not cluttering up potentially important threads.
/steps off soapbox
More than one troll thread will be necessary to allow for anyone who wants to start one. But if you want to start one use a header like [Troll] or make the title so obvious no one can miss it. Also, confine to the General or Q&A section. Keep it clean, free of excessive profanity and vulgar sexual references, and flagrantly abusive posts.
Edit: I also visit the Captivate forum for answers, but that's because I still have a Captivate, though it's deactivated (wifi only )

Agreed. I like the [TROLL] idea
Does that really help the problem or just hide it in the basement.
It's like telling a recovering alcoholic it's ok to knock a few down when no one's looking.

It hides it in the basement. What some of us are really looking for is lulz threads. What we often get, though, is lulz threads that degenerate into nastiness and get closed, leaving us with one less lulz thread.

I wonder if we could get a lulz sub-forum. It would be groundbreaking lol.
Find a like-minded individual with A LOT of spare time to moderate. We could be trend setters for the entire XDA community.
/me has delusions of grandure
"I didn't say that...my Fascinate has a tiny troll inside it."
Just wondering why is it called lulz, what does it stand for why not call it hating or something else just wondering...
Maybe if you left it would be a better place.

Don't you mean lulz?
good day.
I guess if you want this to be a better place, you have to get a different phone.
It's unfortunate, but it seems the fascinate clique is just a bunch of lulz trolls who act 11. Funny how they made so much fun of Enyo, amirite?

After seeing what this thread turned into, I can clearly see this too. So much for an effort to improve things...
here you go guys, I've mentioned starting this thread just for lulz/trolling before and finally posted it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377310 pass it along if you care and post if you want, just my attempt to help, for what it's worth, since I enjoy posting lulz and reading lulz threads.....

the grass may always seem greener, but it wont be
the gnex will have a huge community both here and on rootzwiki and i guarantee it will be the flame/troll epicenter of the world
with that many users it cant be anything but
and ull have several legit developers and 500 enyo's who cant do anything with android source and will just kang cm7 or other roms and put a theme on it
it ll be a crapfest
The snobbery around here is outstanding.

Are the Lulz Worth It?

A few days ago (practically an eternity in XDA years), nitsuj17 exposed the work of our favorite Uberdev as nothing more than a straight up kang of CM7 and his Espresso thread was locked. He got a lot of blowback for that (including some from me) because it temporarily put the kibosh our lulz. Of course, we were just kidding with our "thanks a lot nitsuj17!" posts, but he did decide not to expose more of the Uberdev's misdeeds for fear we might lose out on our lulz.
Now, however, our favorite Uberdev has a new thread for a "new" kernel, and we all rejoiced at having a fresh source of lulz. The problem with this is that he STILL has not learned his lesson - the "new" kernel is nothing more than comradesven's KGB kernel with a 1.9 Ghz OC state added. If you don't believe it, here's the proof: https://github.com/EnyoDEV/bada.
Is it worth the lulz to keep allowing this guy to kang someone else's work, add a few lines of code, and pass it off as something new? What if you put a lot of time and effort into a ROM, kernel, theme, or mod and this guy did it to you? Would it be enough that he credits you after several other forum members call him out? Should this guy be reported again, or should we just leave it alone so we can keep the entertainment in XDA? Your thoughts?
Edit: for the record, I have not reported him for this latest kang - I'll leave that decision up to you

Eeh, I have reddit for lulz. If I was a mod he would be banned already. (but I'm not a mod and never will be...for good reason.

At this point, I doubt anybody installs anything he releases. He has been discredited enough and yes he should be expelled from xda after his blatant kang of KGB.

Yeah, but the lulz are becoming tired and repetitive.
"the relentless pursuit of the perfect rom"
And don't worry, we can still get tons of lulz without Enyo. There are plenty of noobs, stupid questions , misunderstandings, misinterpretations, and immaturity to keep the lulz going nonstop.

Not to go all White Knight on your assess or anything, but...
Doesn't Comradesven's thread state something along the lines of, "don't you DARE give me credit for this", and say anyone is free to use anything he has done??
I enjoy trollin' Enyo as much as the next guy, but go after him for the outright *lie* of 'espresso protection' or any of the multitudes of other crap?
...and now back to the lulz.

Adding a 1.9ghz clock step is an outright lie. You really think that this phone could handle that clockspeed reliably?

while enyo allowed us to have lots of lulz over the past few weeks, I do think its time to move on. He is not learning from his mistakes and thats most likely because he is "11 yrs old". If this is true, well 11yr olds shouldnt be members on xda let alone "developing" anyway.

yeah i made the 11 year olds shouldnt be members argument back when that came to light and no one seemed to care, oh well
I don't blame Enyo for what he is doing. I blame his parents for home schooling him and allowing the only contact to the outside world through a phone or computer with an Internet connection. He spends entirely too much time playing with his phone when he should be outside playing with people his age.
Enyo, put the phone and computer away, step outside your home and start enjoying life.

Get mad at me for this comment, its totally fine with me if you do. The mods really are needed and I wish they would step up. The fascinate is one of the busier parts of the forum and its full of posts that need removing. If they started doing that among warning offenders this would be a much smaller problem

They actually have been policing these threads - what we have now is actually a much smaller problem than what we'd have if they weren't. As many off-topic (to put it mildly) posts as there are now, we'd have 3X as many if they weren't active here. At least 2/4ths of the threads that have been closed would still be open and there would be at least 50,000 more troll posts
Has anyone seen John Connor?
Very true. I am specifying the development forum. There are so many very nonrelevant and repeat posts its ridiculous. The sad part though is i am hypocritical and guilty of this myself
