FC09 being released OTA, FC19.rdf posted, still 2.3.6 - Epic 4G General

FC09 being released OTA starting 3/26.

FC19.rdf posted, still 2.3.6, still lists GLMS, still lists HDMI video jack?
http://device.sprintpcs.com/Samsung/SPH-D700/FC19.rdf
FC14.rdf posted. still 2.3.6
http://device.sprintpcs.com/Samsung/SPH-D700/FC14.rdf
And now it's FC09.rdf
http://device.sprintpcs.com/Samsung/SPH-D700/FC09.rdf
Sprint has posted the FC07.rdf file. Still 2.3.6, they're still working on stuff.
http://device.sprintpcs.com/Samsung/SPH-D700/FC07.rdf
A firm maybe on this one. It looks like a D700 rdf file, but it's in the wrong directory. Most of the info in the rdf looks like an OG Epic D700, but it was posted in the D710 directory. Not that it really matters.
http://device.sprintpcs.com/Samsung/SPH-D710/FB29.rdf
FB15 leaks, no rdf in sight! WTF?
And now it's FB01...still 2.3.6
http://device.sprintpcs.com/Samsung/SPH-D700/FB01.rdf
http://device.sprintpcs.com/Samsung/SPH-D700/FA31.rdf
Posted January 31st. Still listed as 2.3.6, what could they possibly still be working on
http://device.sprintpcs.com/Samsung/SPH-D700/FA06.rdf
Posted January 6th
http://device.sprintpcs.com/Samsung/SPH-D700/EL30.rdf
EL30 is the first rdf with no mention of CIQ!
http://device.sprintpcs.com/Samsung/SPH-D700/EL20.rdf
(Still lists 2.3.6 as Android version and still lists CIQ as included.)
http://device.sprintpcs.com/Samsung/SPH-D700/EL09.rdf
http://device.sprintpcs.com/Samsung/SPH-D700/EL07.rdf
http://device.sprintpcs.com/Samsung/SPH-D700/EK30.rdf
http://device.sprintpcs.com/Samsung/SPH-D700/EK23.rdf
What are these files?
"RDF" files appear to be xml based documentation files for firmware releases. You can't actually use them for anything, but it is proof that Sprint was actually working on a new firmware release as of the date code of the file. The date code is interpreted as follows:
E L 09:
Y M D
E O A
A N Y
R T
..H
Years...... D- 2010 E-2011, F-2012
Months.....A-Jan B-Feb C-March D-April E-May F-June G-July H-August I-Sept J-Oct K-Nov L-Dec.
Therefor EL09 was released for testing on Dec 9th 2011. These files best viewed in Internet Explorer (I know...but try it.)

Just as maddogin finished the lock mod for ei22 this pops up
Hopefully it will be easier since he did the ei22 one

I thought EI22 would be the last...and would have argued that at length.....until now lol.
Oh well, I'll be interested to see if anything official actually comes from it and what they will supposedly be fixing. Once you load up all the patches and a custom kernel there is not much in the way of updates needed, but for stock folks I feel sorry for the awful keyboard skips and weak GPS.

Maybe it comes with google talk with video capabilities.

I would say gps fix. With the devs here I have a great working gps and a sweet workin keyboard. I actually use it every single time now that it doesn't skipp

The reboot issue is the only major issue I've seen with EI22. The GPS issue is easily resolvable. I hope they fix it because I sure as hell have failed in my attempts.

I agree. I'm wondering if the reboot issue is something deep enough in GB that the fix requires the version changes to 2.3.6?

The reboot issue is caused by a bug in the kernel. A bug in the kernel and hardware flaws are the only two thing that can cause spontaneous reboots.

+1 to that.
I requested Gtalk for our Epics be available from both the Android Market Team, and the Gtalk team itself, I would be LMMFAO right now if this is how it went down.
Android Market Team: Gtalk team, a user has cordially requested you "ok the Gtalk.apk to be seen and downloaded by SPH-D700 users on the Android Market.
Gtalk Team: Sure thing! Oh wait, we're testing Gtalk.apk, and while he assured you guys (and us) that it would natively work, there's a few bugs.. we'll be sure to contact the Samsung Devs responsible for the SPH-D700 and tell them we have the updated files for this to work, thanks for the heads up Android Market Team!
Gtalk Team: Hey Samsung Devs, a user on Gingerbread brought up a good point, with native front-facing camera support, Gingerbread isn't quite "finished" unless our Google Video chat is working, don't fret, we have the files necessary, it should be a quick fix, here you go!
Samsung Devs: *facepalm* we just released EI22 and it took a MONTH for Sprint to trust us and OTA it, but thanks.. looks like it's back to the drawing board.
Samsung Devs: Hey Sprint, we have another incremental update, should fix a few bugs, not as big fix as EI22 but still necessary, sorry we didn't include it.
Sprint: You sons of.... fine, we're cool. But you BETTER have Ice Cream Sandwhich up your sleeves for our Flagship phone or we're throwing down, YOU HEAR ME?!
Samsung Devs: We can try.
Lol... This story is of course made-up by me just now, but if it entertained you, don't mind a thanks getting hit
Afterall, I did request Gtalk.apk from Android Market and the Gtalk team, that part of the story wasn't a joke. lol

There is such a low percentage of people experiencing random reboots still and even less of a percentage within the pure stock users out in the world. So I don't think that will change. Probably adding features like Gtalk with video and maybe enabling TV out...yeah right!

dj05? what is it? who made it? how does it affect us?

what exactly is dj05? who is releasing it? samsung? verizon?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
What is DJ05? That's a terrific question...
Dj05 is an update from Verizon. The official one is not released yet. It is a fix for some features. Like the soft key backlight now stays on with the screen. It has a GPS fix and numerous other ones. The one You hear about is just a non official one.
As for the who.... that's not of your concern

DJ05 is a mystical update only spoken of in the depths of IRC, also known as infinite rainbow colors.
thanks whatsup.. good answer

The update is all over the place right now. I dont know why people are having a hard time finding it. And it boggles me why its not being posted in these forums.
But if higher-ups dont want it posted here thats the way its gotta be.
Either way look at it like this....this update will be out before 2.2...........so 2.2 is far off for us!!!
One line of the channel log from Verizon says its a preperation update for "2.2 due next year"

I read a post around the beginning of the DJ05 teases that amounted to, "if we released this on the forums, there would be an explosion of new 'My phone doesn't work!!' threads the next day". I believe it's not fully public here more for the protection of the end users and sanity of the devs than withholding goodies. The #Samsung-Fascinate channel of IRC is where the devs hang out to work out kinks, if you're interested in participating before broadcast release.

The "higher-ups" don't want it posted here because the "higher-ups" are trying to protect the people who leaked the ROM in the first place. Test builds are often watermarked and traceable.

I'd be surprised if verizon doesn't leak this stuff themselves. They can monitor the forums and chat rooms to see how well it works and they get free beta testers who can't complain to them if it breaks the phone.

Learn to read lol he said he didnt work there. lol
as for the update... friend of mine that has it and it helping to test it for VZW has told me it will be another month or 2 for official release still far to "buggy", 2.2 that is....
on a side note i saw the new VZW Galaxy S LTE phone this weekend... its a prototype but freaking awsome!!!
the screen is crisper, has front facing camera, its a bit wider than the SF, but still very light. Comes with android 2.2 out of the box. from what i hear the data rates can be as good as 25M down and 8M up.
I must say that i was quite impressed with it...
unfortunatly i could not get a picture of it, my friend has alot of integrity.... sometimes thats a bad thing

OTA UVKA6 Update

2. most people are waiting on samsung to release the 2.2 source (which samsung has 60 days to do so)
I think people were simply pissed at the audacity of the companies to hang us out to dry. Or we would have taken it up the ace had we not had these unofficial releases. I believe they felt abandoned and jerked around by a company they invested money in... so while i am glad they finally give an ounce of support i am happy running nero. +1 most of us here weren't so much worried about the rom as we were the source code. When samsung releases it we expect the devs to have major improvements on the custom roms.

Updating to the Official 2.2 release has more of an impact on the millions of users who aren't on XDA. I was frustrated while I was on stock 2.1 mainly due to some issues with the bluetooth stack and some other quirks that Samsung put in. But I have finally rooted and customized my Vibrant (Nero5), so I am quite happy and don't want to deal with the headache that is minikies.
The only thing that I think I am missing on a custom ROM is audio out support for my Samsung Home Dock, but it isn't enough for me to try the official release at this point, because:
a) I don't know for certain that the feature is there
b) Not convinced that Samsung got it right.
Does anyone know of a list of features and bug fixes that are included in this release from T-Mobile beyond what is included in the general 2.2 update?

Source release is legally required by the GPL (GNU Public License), which the Linux Kernel uses. Android uses said kernel. There is also the Apache license for Android, which has certain requirements.

It was released back on July 30, 2010.
I am very happy that froyo is here, now or at least soon the devs can optimize the kernal uv/oc and such. I won't be flashing stock on as nero is so much better. The thing is Samsung has left a bitter taste in my mouth, a little communication with its customers would have gone a long way. As it is the release of froyo seems as much a PR move as a delivery of a long over due promise. Got to think long and hard about any Samsung perchase in the future.

I wouldn't get too excited just yet...There's been no solid or reliable word on the Fascinate update yet. Based on past experience, news of the OTA update will probably "leak" at least a few days ahead if not a week or two. I'm not saying it won't happen tomorrow, but if it doesn't happen tomorrow, you might want to try rooting your phone and installing the EB01 Froyo Rom. Samsung to update all the Galaxy S line to Gingerbread

Its official. They will begin with the European phones at mid month (arent we there already?) and then move on to the American phones. I'm guessing we'll see a leak in about a month.

I honestly think we may have a official release by the end of the month to early june.

Well, I really can be hopeful, since I'll also have the NS4G (getting it today), if they don't release it, I'll just play around with GB on the NS4G, and when the Vibrant gets GB, I'll have 2 amazing phones (not like the Vibrant isn't amazing now, but just not taking full advantage of it's hardware).
This is great news! Hopefully they do step up their software updates and push it out or leak it faster than we expect.

Yeah a leak would come in handy. We'd get new roms and maybe some stuff fixed in CM7/MIUI. Binary roms will not help CM7 and miui roms with GPS because of the way Samsung calls on the GPS as compared to the way aosp calls on the GPS. This has been stated many times over, and yet still gets swept under the rug.
Even after the *kernel* source is released, it still contains nothing about GPS source.

GPS will probably never work for EVERYONE on the Vibrant... so might as well let it go and wait for some dev to make a mod that makes it work like Heathen's GPS fixes.
I was saying that GB would open completely new doors.
GB could help complete MIUI and CM7, as they are all Gingerbread based.
Even if it is AOSP, they have to use the things that Samsung gives.

Very sad to read this. I was also under the impression that we'd likely have an official and fully functional Cyanogenmod build.
Oh well. Stock GB will be awesome enough if they release it.

This GPS issue is really unfortunate. We should just have Samsung open source it..
Let's sit back and enjoy the news about Kies-bricked phones (again).

Eh17 & eh18

Im guessing no Gb this month

Personally I don't really care. We are getting good and frequent leaks and I would prefer them to get it right than rush something out. At least they are putting a huge effort into getting us gingerbread.

+1 especially since this will probably be our last official upgrade, so I would want the best they can produce instead of getting the update as soon as possible

Dont get me wrong the leaks are great...but i want them to finish even if buggy and give us the source so some of our guys that know wtf they are doing can have at it and give us some well..epic
Keith
as you guys can see, the new builds are becoming more recent. which usually means our time is getting very close to official release.
EH13 not EH17?
This is the EH13 page not EH17.

Nope, it's EH17. Although I do see the EH13 listed in the specs.
Modem perhaps? Especially if it has another version listed within it.
Bleh, I'm getting angry now.
Too many builds.
But, they must think they're close.

They must be getting close. Also samfirmware indicated there would be multiple leaks before the end of the month. There is still a chance that final will be done by the predicted date even though prior history doesn't point to the likelihood of that.

I went from "GB? Who cares?" to "GB! Awesome!" almost to "Whatever." Hope reviews are great and prerooted flash packages are in supply. The pre-Froyo urgency just isn't there but at least they're working on it. And maybe it really does squeeze much more performance out of it.
They don't need to be releasing any final version until they finally get the GPS crash/force close bug fixed, that'll be a deal breaker for thousands of people if they release anything official with that issue still in play.

Hmm... a mis-labeled rdf file? It must be a fake! Time to start a huge stink. /sarcasm. Not trying to start drama, but where's WDM? He must be the one "faking these" again

Exactly my thinking. All these people annoyed at another new build, meanwhile the one we have still doesn't work. Are they expecting Samsung to release it full of holes? With the current version rebooting and having no function GPS, I'm happy to see new versions hitting. Means hopefully they're actually working on the problem.
I still can't understand how what is now a legacy device can possibly give their engineers such problems with the modem and other comm chipsets. It looked to be all solidified in Froyo and now for GB it's the biggest boogeyman?! What are they trying to do...?
The problem isn't how many builds they're making, it's how long will it take them to get it right this time. No one wants the froyo situation to repeat itself with gingerbread.
