Hey People
I have been following the ICS port by KieranFTW since it began, and to be blunt, I don't think he is getting enough credit for the work he has done. Considering the age of the Wildfire, the fact that he managed to take a port and get it booting in the first place is amazing enough, but to then get full touchscreen, calls, and messaging working as well is more than most people could expect.
From what I understand, arco has managed to get wifi and sound working in this ICS port, and I would like to ask him if he would consider sharing his knowledge with KieranFTW to enable him to complete the port. I understand that arco has CM9 to work on, but in recognition of the work that KieranFTW has done I think it would be a nice thing to do. What do other people think?
Also a big thankyou from me if KieranFTW is reading this. I can't believe I can get an almost fully functioning ICS on my Wildfire; I never thought I would see 2.3!
I would say that is entirely up to arco
He is also spending his free time on this and maybe he just doesn't have the time or willingness to spare explaining a lot of complicated stuff to someone else,
I wouldn't think any less of arco if that is the case
It would be nice for keiranFTW and a good opportunity maybe to learn a few things, but I would understand arco as well if he isn't inclined to help.
everyone is free to ask, but arco is also to refuse

Sorry to tell you, but, everything that he has done was following tutorials. Everyone with some free time could have done that. I do appreciate the time he spent though, but, that is it.

That may be true, but how many other people would be willing to give up that amount of time? Isn't the point of XDA to encourage would-be devs like Kieran? Of course arco is free to say no, and obviously I wouldn't think any less of him if he did, I just think it would be a nice gesture.
While I completely agree with your point on appreciating Keiran's efforts, sorry, I don't agree with the other parts of your "request". It's entirely upto Arco to release the sources (Which will be put up sooner or later in any case - it's pretty much guaranteed. In all probability, he does not want to release half working / half baked sources), but, to make threads and trying to garner public support for stuff like this - Sorry,I don't agree with it. It's not exactly portraying his true picture.
Hmmm... It might be coming across that I just want a fully working ICS, which isn't the case. I'm quite happy with the port that's available now. Even if it happens behind the scenes with nobody else knowing, I think it would be nice if arco shared how he managed to get Wifi and sound working with Kieran. I think it would encourage him to continue in his development skills.
Of course that's just my opinion...
While keirans efforts are pretty good. I think a thread trying to persuade a developer already known to be porting ICS is a bit far.
While its great that you want to support a dev, it may be a pain for Arco to read pages of requests while he's working, in the long run if you want a ICS rom, you should probably stay quiet.
Just my thoughts.

I'm not sure you fully understand what I am saying. I am quite happy with the port that Kieran has done. I can always use mobile data so the Wi-fi issue is OK with me, I never use BT, and I am prepared to put up with no sound so I can have ICS on my Wildfire. I use this ROM as my daily driver and I think it's great. I am trying to draw attention to Kieran's work; I am not trying to get anything for myself. Saying that, of course when arco releases his version of ICS I will be using that... Nobody else has to know if arco PM's Kieran with some tips. I know he is very busy though.
I don't see much point in this thread, helping or not helping Keiran is completely up to Arco and if it was me this thread would be a bit insulting.
RANT mode ON
Second thing, I remember Arco posted that this port will not be able to achieve working wifi etc... Why? Because it's a port, it's not ROM built from source.
Do you even know the difference from what is Arco doing and what KeiranFTW is doing? Maybe Arco is not able to help KeiranFTW since he's porting rom from another device, thought of that?
ICS source is quite different from GB, and to get somethings working it has to be built from source.
And to close my thoughts, to KeiranFTW respect for time spent. I'm sure he learned a lot and will be able to use it.
Instead of pushing Arco, leave him do his bit and accept Keiran's work for what it is. Somewhat functioning port from which you get a glimpse of what maybe can be done for wildfire.
I'm really pissed at what this section has become lately
RANT mode OFF
Well obviously I have really offended some people, which was not my intention.
I'm sorry. I was not trying to push arco. As I said, I realise he is very busy. I was only trying to gather appreciation for Kierans efforts.
We should try to encourage developers, shouldn't we?

In a way i agree with everyone here, i understand the frustration with having to wait for a fully working ics rom but these things take time and we should also be thankful that arco is even working on this rom at all as he has a new phone and will probably be developing more for that than the wildfire in future.
Keiran did a great job with the port (much better than some others that tried, myself included) I managed to fix the network issues myself but the touchscreen drivers really had me stumped until he fixed it. I have a lot of respect for him now for proving to us all that ICS can run on the wildfire, yes it's a real shame that he couldn't get it fully working but he's only a young developer who still has many things to learn which i'm sure he will as time goes by and i wish him all the luck in the future.
I don't think arco should help him finish that rom as he has enough on his plate running cm7 and now developing ICS, I think we should all be patient and wait for him to finish it completely as i don't want a half ass rom that isn't fully working and i'm sure arco won't want to release one either.
Who knows after we have a fully working ICS rom maybe then keiran can look through the coding to finish his rom.
Ironically, I only just seen this today, been fiddling with my new phone a bit to much.
I did initially ask Arco for help at first, he explained that getting everything working on a port would be almost impossible.
I could portray myself to be some great developer with a PHD in computer science, but I am not that at all, I am a fifteen year old with a grade B at GCSE level.
I respect that anyone could have done what I did, but I saw the touchscreen fix topic and because no one else was doing it for wildfire I decided that I would.
I thought for a brief moment I was a developer, but realised the truth when xda rejected my recognized developer request.
I realised that the people who found the touchscreen fix, the people who compiled the Rom for the Eris are the developers.
The only true "development" I have done is trying to fix the synaptic touchscreen driver for ICS.
I will probably loose interest in android when I get an iPhone 5 when it is released, but as I said, my efforts don't count for much.
I have my own forum to run, and development time is less and less.
The reason I don't have a donation link is because, I am not a developer.
By the way, the latest ICS Rom is like 99.99% work of schiznik, only my kernel with touchscreen fixes are the changes.
Sorry if I have been a nuisance, I didn't mean any harm.
Will leave stuff to devs in future.
Keiran

I can think of many who are more of a nuisance than you've ever been or ever will be. You did great with your kernel and what you did with the ICS rom, damn we would still be waiting at Xmas for ICS if it was left to kassaus seens as he is so "busy" all the time.
You did great mate and I'm sure you'll have a great future developing too, just keep at it and good luck with the latest phone, I'm not too sure about the iPhone 5 though man, Yeh it'll be an astonishing phone but it's still an apple at the end of the day and probably won't be that much different from the 4s underneath.

I would like to look towards the admins and moderators for guidance on where this should be placed. But I would like to start a bounty on Android 2.0 for the G1. The device has aged gracefully for most of us due to the tireless efforts of the devs here, and I think its time for us, or at least me, to give something back. I am having a hard time even considering a device made by another manufacturer, when ATT 3G bands are available, based on the sole fact that I wouldn't be able to come here and get the hotted builds and customizations.
I would like to start a donation or bounty, most likely through paypal, that anyone could contribute to, to be paid out to the developer that manages to squeeze a usable and feature complete build of 2.0 onto the G1. No I am not quite sure how to decide who wins, but it's just something I would like to see done. I will start of the bounty/donations with a 100USD bid if we can come up with guidelines to follow.
Just a thought..what does everyone else think?
Jubeh dropped a 2.0 rom today. Maxisma, ccyrowski, and cyanogen are all working on 2.0 roms. It sounds like you were thinking it would take an act of god to get 2.0 on the G1. It doesn't. However, the best devs are presently working on it.
Not that bad of an idea. I don't think the dev challenge on the market pays out to any of these custom roms, only apps developed and put on the market. However, I don't know if there is a dev out there that a possible $1,500 will make much of a difference to. I'd think that they would be work on these roms anyway.
Quite the contrary, I know it will happen fast, and I see that only minutes ago a rom was release, but I think we all can agree, no google sync, market, camera, etc..is hardly a fully functional daily driver. It usually takes several iterations of any one rom to get it stable and fully functioning.
Beside that, IMHO, isn't the point, the point was that I wanted to find a way to show my thanks and gratitude to the devs who crank out great software without slapping a pricetag on it. I think that all work should be rewarded, same as the linux projects I contribute too. The G1 is the oldest, slowest device with the least ram...however, I still cling to my precious because of the work thee guys here do, that keep it feeling fresh and as peppy as a spring chicken.
I just thought I might put the idea out to the community, rather than making individual small donations myself to individuals.

Yup, they will crank them out regardless lol. But as a engineer by day, I know those little gift cards and small rewards for excellence from mgmt DO go a long way. As a photographer, consultant, and web designer by nite, those big tips that were necessary go a very very long way.
if you want to donate, donate directly to whichever dev you feel deserves it.
im holding out til cyanogen gets 2.0 running, im sure it wont take him long.
Its already being worked on. Cyanogen would of won this hands down though! ;-)

Yeah. it may just be to late to consider at this point, maybe next time. Cyanogen is a beast, but Jubeh's rom got out the gate pretty fast! I am surprised to see the solid performance without a tremendous amount of kernel hacking.
i dont think this is a good idea... you might end up with dev's spitting out roms that seems complete and good, but because of the rush and competition the quality underneath isnt that great.(i doubt it would happen cause i dont believe android devs would this, but you never know! esepecially if the bounty would become like 100's of dollars)
like that one guy said just donate to whoever you think deserves it. i'd probably split it up.. give a good big portion to cyanogen.. and then all the other devs that help make these awesome mods possible
Waiting for drivers...
At this point we are waiting on new qualcomm drivers to allow hardware accelerated encoding/decoding. We don't quite have all of the piece to the puzzle needed to get a fully functional Eclair build for the ADP1 from AOSP source.
I'm not knocking the idea suggested here. I'm all for donating to your dev of choice. Just letting some of you know why we are in a holding pattern.
It may very well NOT be in the best interest of the community, which is why I put it out there, it sounds like most people thus far don't feel like its a good idea. Whether it's the vocal minority, or a representative majority, is yet to be seen.
Either way, thanks for the update TheGreenJester, my thumbs are already aching with anticipation.
Just let them be. The devs will release these things when it is ready. Don't pressure them. Giving them these huge amounts of donations like a bounty will only give them pressure
Like someone mentioned, putting a significant monetary incentive on release will only cause developers to spit out subpar ROMs. I'm sure Cyanogen and some others could have a more or less functioning ROM out within hours or just a few days, but it would be immensely slow and probably lacking here or there, with an abundance of bugs. It'd be nearly impossible to judge who releases the first "complete" ROM, since there are so many debateable factors comprising "completeness."
Overall, I'm sure the developers are working as quickly as possible to get their ROMs out, so I don't think they need any more incentive. Of course, donations should be made to thank them, but they should be made to different developers from different people. Rather than leave all but one developer with nothing, users should save their money until a ROM is released, and donate to that developer if they believe that ROM is the best. You know, spread the wealth around.
It's a nice thought, but definitely unnecessary.
Besides, I doubt anyone would be willing to send money over to someone with only 18 posts. No offense, but the internet is full of crooks.
what if we made a 4,5,or 6 dev group together to design the 1 big rom and all the donates went to them, not saying all but ive noticed a good bit of donations are based on fanfare. just sayin.

Too many cooks in the kitchen.
People have different styles, different ways of going about things, and it just seems like forcing a couple developers together wouldn't really help. Besides, some variety is good for everyone.
I mean, everyone's been waiting for this update for months; a fully working version by any number of developers is probably no more than a week away, if that. Just have some patience and let the developers do their thing, and then donate when someone comes up with something you like.
No need to disturb the status quo.
Hi,
the idea is not bad, but without HTC drivers it will be not possible to get full working 2.0 build (Camera ... etc).
I think all the devs waiting for the drivers to make stable 2.0 roms.

Eh, I understand his 'laziness'. The man works full-time.....in retail.
Moved to General forum. The development forum is only for development threads. (Threads with actual development happening.)
Questions should always be in the General forums (or Q&A if your device has a Q&A forum.)
And to the comment of wes not wanting to work on it, speaking as a developer, wes works full time and probably also has a life. He may have a girlfriend or a wife. He also had already promised a Slide CM6 release. Give him time to finish the Slide port and move on to the galaxy port. He can't spend his every waking moment coding stuff. Granted, he did take the donations required to get the phone, so he can't just ignore it, but I don't think he's ignoring it, either. Be patient.

I meant he has no enthusiasm for this phone, hes only working on it because he has to.
"because he has to."
Is someone holding a gun to his head?
Well, as a Day 1 G1 owner, I would give him the benefit of the doubt on this one. He has done some amazing stuff for the community. Honestly, he can't port to all phones. If he tries too many, it could get bad.
I never mentioned a gun or that he cant do great things. He likes the slide better than the Vibrant. He will without a doubt spend more time with it than the vibrant, because he wants to use it. Im willing to bet a large chunk of the phone cost came from donations based on peoples hope for cm6, which is why he "has to".

I doubt that. I've been following CyanogenMod development for a while, and he straight-up volunteered to get a Vibrant (especially when the donations started coming in) and work on a CM port.
Check http://github.com/wesgarner
He has been doing quite a bit of work on it!
Please stop speculating....
I have been following the CyanogenMod team for awhile! Wes isn't porting the CM over to the Vibrant/Captivate because of donations!!! He volunteered to work on it - FIRST! THEN, he got donations!
Wes committed himself to the Slide community to getting a working Slide CM6 port. So, it is only natural that he follow through on that commitment first! That shows honesty and integrity.
Give him time to work on that port and get it finished. THEN he will start serious work on the Vibrant/Captivate! Time may equal months - not weeks!
He also has a life outside of Android modifications. Many people here seem to think that these ports are easy - THEY ARE NOT! there are hundreds of tiny, tedious, meticulous details that have to be taken care of. Most of the time the kernel, the drivers, and the ROM ALL have to be tweaked to get everything working properly and they all have to work together.
If they don't - some snot nosed, unappreciative Noob will get on the forums and complain about how the dev should have had everything fixed before releasing the ROM!
Oh, and when the ROM IS RELEASED - please file the appropriate bug reports on the CM repository AFTER you check that your bug hasn't already been reported.
So, be patient and understanding - AND, CYANOGENMOD/TEAMDOUCHE RULE #1 - DON'T ASK HOW LONG TILL THE RELEASE!! LOL!!!
something inside telling me that we will not see good/stable cm6 on Vibrant this year I am more worried about official Froyo....then by the time 3.0 comes, I hope Galaxy line will have enough devs to cook a ROM in a month

DEVS! Would it be possible to use a FroYo Kernel for CM7 like the Droid X Developers did?
DON'T TROLL! IF YOU DO, THE MODS WILL SEE IT AND BAN YOU!
As we all know, the last Thread that involved CM7 Development for the Epic was closed because people got Off-Topic, so I decided to start this one just so we know where developing is going. This is just for those people who don't know how to read Github or don't want to check it every 3 seconds, and are okay with waiting a week for getting an update.
Please PLEASE PLEASE, DO NOT ASK FOR ETA'S! I know that someone will ask, but seriously. DO NOT ASK. It's annoying as hell. If the developers know when a release would happen, they'd tell us. Trust me, they would. But developing for our phone is difficult.
They can't Port something from the Vibrant or the Captivate because their GSM Phones and we're CDMA, meaning we use different signals or some crap like that. But I think it means that 3G and Calls and all of that would be hard to work on, not to mention 4G.
4G is an issue because it's something not many phones have, especially in the Galaxy S line. Remember that we're one of the original Galaxy S Phones, so we have it, and the Captivate, Vibrant, and Fascinate don't. This makes stuff even harder because then the developers have one more thing on their list to work on, that they never had before.
From what I saw last time, nullghost was trying to port the Nexus S 4G .35 Kernel. This is a Gingerbread Kernel. Remember that the Nexus S 4G is a STOCK GINGERBREAD phone, with no TouchWiz. The Kernel is just the thing that connects the software with the hardware, so this might also be hard because we have a keyboard and most other phones don't (I don't know if this really effects it, but from my prior experiences from Android, it does).
Lets say the Kernel gets Ported. The NS4G has 4G (no kidding). Don't quote me, but I think that'd get the camera working because obviously the camera is a piece of hardware, that should get 4G working because the the NS4G has it. GPS should probably work, although I'm sure that works if you use the GPS Status Method, and I'm not too sure about MMS and what the issue is with that.
Now, when I check Github, it appears as if the developers have stopped working? I mean, props to them for all they've done for us, but if I'm reading github properly, it seems as if they've taken a break (please correct me if I'm wrong).
Really. The only big problem we have is with people who won't stop asking for ETA's. Please, just don't ask. You'll cause more problems then you will help if you do get a reply.
And if anybody has any questions about the CM7-A4, feel free to ask them here. You should however check the closed Thread. It might be locked, but there's a reason it's not deleted, you can still read it, so please do.
Remember, no asking for ETA's. Just don't do it. Any questions, check the older Thread and in a few days or weeks what should be this Thread. Also check Github. No ETA's. Keep this on task, no gangster stuff. Kthnxbye.

i disagree with the dont ask about ETA.
I think that if you announce that you are working on something then people have a right to ask for an eta.
People should be informed as to what is going on both good and bad...
While it can get to be like are we their yet thing... but then i would say you should have never announced something to begin with.
There's a reason I made that rule. If you look at every other CM7 Thread for the Epic, their closed because of ETA's. Don't even attempt to question what I have posted, it's based on fact.

I heard the Droid X has Cyanogenmod mostly working with it's stock 2.2 kernel. I wonder what all the Droid X devs had to do to make it work.
With the 2.3 kernel source being so close to fruition, it probably isn't worth it to give their method a try but if samsung can't get gingerbread working in the next couple of months it might be worth a shot.
And queue take 3... omfg, when will people learn, this is not to debate ETA.

really not allowed to talk about that? Since when can someone else take away my free speech rights to ask when something is gonna to be released? If you dont want to answer a question for eta then just dont reply to it. After all no one is making you reply to anything.
If you HAVE NOTHING TO SHARE DONT POST IN DEVELOPMENT.
I'm trying to be honest with you and save you from being flamed. Did you even read the first post? The devs don't have the kernel source for the Epic 2.3.3 or beyond, nor do they have it for the Nexus S 4G, so until then, they have to stop developing because they cannot do ANYTHING without it. So an answer to an ETA is never.

I think this would be a good idea while we wait for the Kernel source actually...
nullghost mentioned that CM6 would be in the same state as CM 7. Idk why, but yea.

Fail. We've attempted this. A lot of the updated proprietary modules from gb and necessary for gb require updated kernel drivers which are present in .35 and would require more work to backport than what we're doing now.
We also do have NS4G source, we kanged everything we could from it.
We are lacking proper regulator sauce along with the branched victory gpio assignments which we can only fire blanks at right now since they have a completely new naming scheme in the aries(.35) tree.
If you want to know why these threads are closed, it's because I send requests that they be closed.
Why?
Because the participants in the threads usually spend more time speculating about possible scenarios rather than reading or asking 'good' questions.
In short, we're waiting on .35 release; then we'll either A) merge the victory bits to the unified aries tree or B) merge cm specific bits from aries to our victory sauce.
That's that.
The reason being? I dont get how theres source for 2.2 and we cant get CM6, how would 2.3 source help us get CM7 working?
And I got my answer while typing because of Deca. Thnx!

Hey guys and girlz,
as many of you know, the developement for our device is not that great and fast because everybody (except from ivendor and arco and maybe some others) is working alone on a ROM/kernel. We could speed this up by building a dev team where all devs for our device and maybe from galaxy w can work together and improve ROM for ROM instead of doing each ROM alone.
Hope we can do this :good:
If anybody is interested, post it here or PM me

Hm. Mate are you blind? Look at this forum. We have a lot of roms, some are even twice there from 2 different developers.
For me, personally its perfect like it is. Arco and Ivendor as lead developers for CM10. Other devs can contribute or take their work and make a new rom out of it.
Especially for a almost 2 years old device our forum is really awesome and you should be happy for what weve got here.
Just my 2 cents.
P.s: This is the development section. You should ask things like that on the General section, in the i9001 thread.

First of all, i appreciate all the work of ivendor , skywalker, brood, xistance and arco and others who did an amazing job of porting major roms to our device. But i must honestly say, i agree on some points with the OP. It is amazing with what we achieved on our small but awesome community, but our phone is getting old and eventually we will be left behind. So now it is the best time to combine all of the knowledge that is hidden in our i9001 section to ensure the future.
In the past year i have been in this section i saw a lot of stuff that could be fixed faster if people would communicate more, like the well known cm9 camera problem (i dont know for sure there was miscommunication as i dont know what happened in the background). A dev team would be awesome.
But i am afraid that this won't work anymore. The glorious days of the i9001 are over. Many good devs left us.
But is is worth the shot. Would be so awesome! If you have any android knowledge, please join.
(I am to stupid. I cant join. I know how qtADB works but that is all).
Also i like the idea of combining the two devices and make a giant dev team for both so we can benefit from there knowledge and they from ours!

No i'm not, otherwise I couldn't have read the forum and written this here
(Just joking)
I know that we have a lot of ROMs, but there are some from 2 different developers because one of them hasn't updated very long or stopped the project and then a new dev took the work.
Thats your personal opinion and I accept it.
I mean this all because of the bugs that have to be fixed.
No its not that awesome, look at the dhd, they have a big dev team who solves most of the bugs there and they have fully functional Android 4.2 and MANY more ROMs than we have also have a look at some other 2 or more year old devices, most of them have big dev teams who do fast and great work.
I really appreciate the work of all our developers (!!we have a 3.4 kernel which even much newer and better devices don't have!!) but we can make this even better and faster.
Thanks i know this but in general section we couldn't get a team together and i also forgot about this section because i mostly (nearly only) use the developement section
Greets and regards,

I seem to agree with xellar's view. Our I9001 forum is great as it is for a two year old device and development seems to be moving forward at a well-placed pace. I dont see any point in creating a ''dev team'' . Dont get me wrong , I'd love to see it happen. But Im comfortable with the pace here .
AW: [DEV] Finding a devs team
I would also apreciate a dev. BUT the developement of the last 2 years was that good, that i can't comlpain on anything. It works very well the way it goes now. Maybe in the near future (~6 moths) when more importent (doesn't mean the other are unimportant) devs leave the s+ and 5.0 will be roll out, maybe then we need a dev-team.
But we have already s.t. like dev-teams:
Arco and Ivendor (CM9/10)
The kernel devs (Erik, castagna, Biagio, Christopher, ...)
Xistance and Doom (CM10.1)
They all share allready there knowledge and function.
So... No need to hurry in my opinion

i think we have a lack of devs contributing to really port the newer versions of android. its only arco and ivendor who are doing this and since arco wanted to concentrate more on his own device its only ivendor (arco is yet still involved with our phone). everyone else is "just" forking from ivendor, aokp, aosp and paranoid which is great and which is not necessarily easy. without them there would be nothing else but the cm rom. still its not comparable to ivendors or arcos work. i dont want to diminish the importance of the work of others (sadly i have to always mention it when saying things like that...). i just didn't see them commit to ivendors github and ivendors credits concede my point.

As true as this is, I still don't like the fact that you say we just fork their work. Both arco and ivendor haven't even started doing any real work on 4.2, forget giving us anything. Camcory and I have brought 4.2 by ourselves, just using arco's kernel source(which is REALLY important so I'm saying nothing to arco).
you probably saw what a mess the "perfectly working cm7" was even though mazen said hes not a real developer. when the 3.4 kernel came up it turned out to be not properly ported. no offense to both of those guys since cm7 actually was usable and the kernel had its right to exist (educk, if you read this, no need to defend yourself, i've read the whole thread).
but you must understand that im kind of suspicious with new things since i don't know if you know what youre doing. im not judging, i really don't know because i'm not qualified. also i dont see anything else going on on your github but your 4.2 porting. so i cant see any references. i also dont see any commits from camcory. thats another thing i cant get an opinion about.
but arco and ivendor have proven to be pretty skilled. i remember someone saying we would never have a 3.x kernel because someone who wanted to port it would be insane...
im still thankful for what youre doing since if ivendor quits its all on you
and im sorry you got in the "just forking" cathegory and everybody else who doesn't feel he belongs there. im just generalizing...

This thread needs to be closed. Its like a slap in the face for all of our developers. Shame on you! Show some respect to them. They sacrifiy a lot time to give us a better user experience for our phones but well, everyone is like "hurrdhurr dat fone is not even like a galaxy s3 now brah after flasching tis rom my fone suks bad ass".. Instead of saying thanks to the developers or donate some buck to them for a fresh beer or something.
Always remember this is a single core device, with a midrange chipset and it cant handle even close as much as a S3 or S2.
We have a fully working (vsync and tripple buffer are working and all ither stuff) Jellybean cm10. Not even the s2 or s3 have this because of the lack of sources for their exynos cpus.
I hate this unrepectless behavior.
Be happy with what you got here FOR FREE. And for a Non-flagship device like our i9001, we have A HELL OF A LOT roms and kernels!
Get your **** together people.

Disrespectfull: YES understandeble: YES.
At our forum/development we got 1-person teams. Some ROMS are made with someone on the background (CM9/CM10/CM10.1).. But the other ROMS that are based on these are made and maintained by 1 person.
I got the feeling that some of us dont have PATIENCE..
And that is something what is very stupid.
Teams are working faster and fixing faster and better bugs in ROMS, that is true.
If the OP want to make a team just ask some developers for godssake. These topic are as disrespectfull as saying WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO UPDATE OR FIXING THIS OR THAT in every goddamm topic.
Just my opnion..

Alright, even through, I shouldn't have any comments here as you already screw things up really bad, I feel like I must do it to clear things up a bit around here.
First of all, you said yourself that you don't have any knowledge related to software development, so why are you messing with people that actually devote time to do it? If you have no ideea what development is, why are you talking about it in this manner? I mean, it is ok to ask or to make mistakes, everybody does, nobody is perfect but I consider this post offensive and I must defend myself here.
Second, as far as I'm consern, my GitHub is MINE and I and only I will decide when to push something there. I cannot be forced by anyone to do anything. So, your sentece "I didn's see anything going on on your github" so what?!? Tell me, why should I post anything just for you to see it? Ah, you think I lack activity? Again, so what? I or any other Open Source developer cannot be forced by anyone to publish something. We do this because we like it, we are not paid for it. Maybe if you would pay me to do these things, yeah you could have the right to judge my activity. This is open source, this is Android, the developers are bringing stuff to the end user but the end user is free to choose if he wants to use that piece of software or if he doesn't want to use that software. Same applies to you, you don't have to flash anything on your phone just because it's there online, if you don't like it, don't use it .
About my 3.4 kernel. I mentioned in the OP of the thread that it is an early "alpha" nothing more. I even used the word "preview". If the end user doesn't like the way the kernel is, than he wont use it.
Oh, and I'm not supposed to say this but I'll take this opportunity just for you to see that I'm not lacking activity and actually I want to develop that 3.4 kernel, also I'll explain why I didn't update anything on github.
I worked locally, and everytime I fixed something, 2 other errors came up, after I fixed those 2, another 3 came up and so on. That's why I choosed not to push anything to git until I get something concret. I said this a million times actually: I have no ideea when that kernel will be ready and if it will be ready, I am going to decide if it will be published to git and XDA or not. This is my personal decision, you can't influence me in any way to do anything.
Also, I'm not a full time developer, I'm still a beginer, I'm still learning things here and I choosed to share my work with others, here on XDA because I thought that my work could be usefull. If you or anyone else don't find it usefull, as I said, don't use it .
Also, ivendor won't quit either and there is nothing on me...again, you are trying to push me...this is hilarious...I choosed to start the 3.4 kernel project but that doesn't mean that I must finish it... I really hope you understood something from this post, if not please, just let it go and ignore it. Also, there is no need to apologise, you were wrong by trying to put pressure on me but I ignored it, as you probaly noticed.
Cheers,
Erik

Hi everyone!
I am here to tell you guys about our phone.
Yes, the title says everything; our phone is not dead!
What do you think? Just because Huawei is not supporting this phone anymore doesn't mean that our phone is dead!
Look! We have achieved great things with our knowledge! We have already have Android that wasn't given to us by Huawei:
- CM 7.2
- Aurora ICS
- MIUI
- Oxygen
- JokerROM
- and lots of others!
(Thanks to all those developers that have contributed their efforts for the sake of our phone!)
Huawei is not supporting us, but every person in our community is supporting each other.
I know we are lacking developers, but we still have great developers: DZO (he's a bit sleepy), forumber2, Blefish, MosTERRA, ezet, and anyone else I have missed!
We still have developers, but not once have I read anyone commenting anything positive about our phone. Not once anyone has told someone else that our phone is dying/dead. Always, everyone here has said our phone is finished.
Come on guys! Don't say this! Always try to say good things about our phone. By saying bad things about our phone, you are discouraging other people, and most importantly the Developers, from keeping the phone.
Please stop discouraging Developers and others! Instead, encourage others to gather knowledge and start building some ROMs!
Yes, I would encourage all of you here to start gathering knowledge about android and start building some MODs, Themes, ROMs, etc, for our phone!
NEVER AGAIN I WOULD WANT TO SEE A COMMENT THAT SAYS NEGATIVE THINGS ABOUT OUR PHONE!!!!
You're right and in general I agree with you but this sub-forum is only to post ROM's preferably tested and without bugs. You should move this to General section or ask to mods to do that. Blefish is working on CM 10 and we (non-developers) need to wait.
Cheers.
to say our phone is "dead" is not negative as i perceive it.. its just a plain fact..
in this fast-changing technology world, our phone already did its job very well..
my u8800 has just passed its 2-year mark, and though its just become my second-line support phone in this month, its still of great value to me..
(big compliment to our great developers!)
HOWEVER, the phones is already over 2 years old, and this is a very old age in technology world (and also considering its lack of official support)..
if everyone just refuses to proceed forward, we are probably still playing/flashing mods for our beloved transistor radio (if thats even possible)!
[edit]
with the above said, i do not mean to discourage any further development effort on this phone..
i actually welcome such activities very much honestly..
its just that ppl should also recognise those of us who try to move forward with newer and more powerful phones..

Our main problem is the just the lack of developers as I already said before, because saying our phones is old fashioned it ain't true, for an example the Huawei Ascend G300, imo that phone is not that far away from our phone in hardware and capability (and also it was release in May of 2012), but still it already has CM9, CM10, CM10.1, thats my point of view, we can't all have the same opinion. I just don't have the skill to do such things in the Android area, if I had I would work on this awesome device.
It's not dead, but it's been on life support for a very long time, now. Blefish is the only active, transparent developer this device has going for, and even he doesn't have public releases yet and encounters numerous issues. There is no real Jellybean for this device, regardless of the fact that the hardware is capable, and so for all intents and purposes it is dead, for the time being. But that could change.
Regardless, this is a terrible thread and if you want to help you shouldn't spam this forum. There are specific forums for this sort of inane garbage.
I think it's dead anymore since we can't go through jellybean. There are only 2 person as i know who have coding knowledge;dzo and blefish.Besides we haven't seen a working wifi for jellybean both of them;so this makes the phone dead,in my view.
i think the points are quite clear now.. in android world, a phone is "dead" if there is not much active development/support for the latest updates going around (either officially or from individuals)..
[edit]
OP, just did a search and found out that u ported a xperia style rom to our phone, so that makes u a developer of this phone.. thx for the work..
(though another GB rom does not interest me that much.. )
I'd like to point out that just because I haven't released a rom does not mean I am not working on it. Just hang on as there is awesome stuff coming up!
I know I am not the fastest developer around, but I always try to do things "properly". Of which I mean I try to provide good code that would be reusable in the future.
Sent from my U8800
Would just like to clarify something
No. Our phone will never be dead, as long as we have devs working on it.
I would also like to point out something:
Just because I ported Xperia Style GB ROM, doesn't mean I have become a developer. BUT at least I am trying to build JB for our device. Yes, I have downloaded the CM10 source and have started building it. Since this is the first ever ROM I will build, which is why I am getting help from Blefish (thanks a lot Blefish. I really appreciate your efforts).
I am trying my best to keep this project going, but I have my studies and other important things (won't mention because they are personal). It is my second last year in High School, so I don't get much time (i'm sorry).
I WOULD STILL LIKE TO ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO GATHER KNOWLEDGE AND START BUILDING FOR OUR DEVICE. WE NEED AS MUCH DEVELOPERS AS POSSIBLE WORKING ON THIS DEVICE!
I know gathering the knowledge is hard, but we have the Q&A section where you can ask something whenever you are stuck. Please step forward and start working!

Thanks for understanding.:good:

HD2 is dead and it still has developers.
It's not developing, it's passed on. This phone is no more. It has ceased to be. It's expired and gone to meet its maker. This is a late phone. It's a stiff. Bereft of life, it rests in peace. If we haven't bought it , it would be pushing up the daisies. It's run down the curtain and joined the choir invisible. This is an ex-phone. Capisci?

ok i take back my previous recognition of u as a developer.. now you are a developer-to-be for this great phone.. (honestly, no sarcasm attached.. )
and while i think u8800 is dead, u see it as a living pal.. no problem.. case closed.. (no sarcasm, again..)
now back to business.. i would very much be happy to see a jb rom created and surely would give it a try in my u8800..
i just hope u can keep this enthusiasm and keep working on this jb-rom-to-come..
honestly speaking, having enthusiasm on something and start working on it are not that difficult.. its the persistence and patience (in dealing with obstacles) that make the difference..
good luck and hope to hear from u soon.. :good:

I'd like to point out that just because I haven't released a rom does not mean I am not working on it. Just hang on as there is awesome stuff coming up!
I know I am not the fastest developer around, but I always try to do things "properly". Of which I mean I try to provide good code that would be reusable in the future.

Hey,
I just don't understand something so i want to ask you. I am following you on twitter and see that it is really not easy making kernel 3.4. I just want to know, wouldn't it be easier if you just use the 3.0.8 kernel that we already have and maybe tweak it a bit? 3.0.8 should work with CM10. I just don't see the point of triing so hard to make the new kernel for CM10. Let's look in the future and if you release your rom in 2 months for now there will not be so many people that would find it usefull because many of U8800 users are already switching to new devices. And in may there is coming KLP.
Thanks for clarification! :good:

I understand what you are trying to say to Blefish.
I'll tell you. May it be 3.0.8 or 3.1 kernel, the story is the same: no Bluetooth and no WiFi. The 3.0.8 will need to be made compatible with CM10, but making WiFi and Bluetooth work will still won't be easy. That's why it is better to work on 3.1 kernel when you know that both kernels have the same story.
I hope you understand.
My phone is not dead!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok i understand that wifi and bt do not work with 3.0.8 and cm10, but blefish said in one thread that it is just a matter of configuration and is not nearly as hard as making a new kernel. I think blefish could make it work with 3.0.8.

Yes, it is a matter of configuration.
All we have right now are the drivers from Aurora and the drivers from official Huawei ROMs. To make CM10, the drivers need to be taken from an older ROM and put into CM10. Now, it is not just a matter of copy-pasting. Our current drivers are not compatible with JB. Blefish has made some things working. The biggest problem is the WiFi. The old WiFi drivers need to be made compatible with CM10, and this is the hardest part. This is why there has been no one, yet, who has been able to do this.
No matter what kernel it is, may it be 3.0.8 or 3.1, the WiFi drivers need to be made compatible with CM10.
I think oguzhan mobile was able to fix the WiFi to the extent where it actually turned on, but it wouldn't scan. I don't know why he stopped development. I am not sure what kernel oguzhan mobile was using, but I think it was 3.0.8. I think you might be right that it would be easier for our phone to use the 3.0.8 kernel, but I think the 3.1 kernel would run better with CM10.1.
If you really want to know why Blefish wouldn't use 3.0.8 kernel, then you would need to Blefish himself. I have already said what I think, but I am not sure if I am right.
I am going to give it a try with 3.0.8 kernel. It might be easier than 3.1 kernel. I'll just have to find out
I like the way you talk....
Waiting for JB...
