Looking at the specs of this phone, can we say it's Gingerbread ready according to Google's Gingerbread hardware requirement list?
Looking forward for some techy feedback.
Will running motoblur be a reason that it would get the update to gingerbread later than other phones? I know that the Droid 2 DX had 2.2 right away but I do not think the Droid Pro is a fan favorite like those guys and because of that maybe Motorola will not be in a huge rush to update it. I do not know the answer. I am just as curious as you.
Both are right around the corner. If getting TouchWiz delayed us getting the 3.2 update and ICS which of the 2 would you rather have for you Tab?
Touch Wiz 4.0 or Android 3.2 update?
Knowing Samsung I doubt we get both.
I'm not really concerned about 3.2. Isn't it really just optimization for smaller tablets? I'd rather have TW now with all bugs fixed and working great.... then they can slack til ICS all they want as long as they send that out at a reasonable time.
I'd rather have 3.2
TW just makes my Tab laggy, I installed ADW EX and it's smooth as silk
Despite my initial apprehension, I'm actually digging TW, so I could pass on 3.2. However, if ICS is the major upgrade it's supposed to be, I'd drop TW in a second.

I believe ics is supposed to be open unlike honeycomb. meaning cm is a definite possibility.

I might be wrong but I think I read somewhere that Cyanogen said there is no CM8 BECAUSE HC is not open. I guess that implies that CM9(ICS) is more than a possibility.
Don't really know how CyanogenMod entered this discussion, but having tried it on my Evo, I can definitely pass on that for the Tab as well. It was cool, but still has way too many annoyances you just shouldn't have to put up with. Switched to MikG on the Evo and never looked back. o
wow, I think that's the first time I've ever heard someone say they don't like cyanogenmod. I suppose everyone has their own tastes but I've been using it for almost 2 years now and I have no intention of ever looking back. It kills me a little bit inside that there is not HC version. Looking forward to ICS.
Also, if we're discussing whether or not it ICS will be a major update, Romain Guy(from the Android team) said at one of his talks during Google I/O that they are putting more work into ICS than they have for any other version except 1.0. It's going to be huge. Cannot wait. I'm also equally excited to get myself a nexus 3/prime/whatever. my n1 is starting to show it's age..
ICS BUILD WITH SENSE 3.0
I have made a ICS build with SENSE 3.0.

ICS with Sense 3.0 ? I need more explanation to be convinced...especially from a 12 posts profile.
Keep on Treckin!
WTF ? ICS with Sense 3.0 ?
If it's true, it will be really laggy, i think.
Hmmmm... Let's all wait to be amazed!
I smell ................
Yeah right!.......
If anyone were that far on with don't you think it would be one of our 'well known' devs??.
Let's stick to the facts. This thread/announcement stinks badly.
First, i could almost swear that Tytung was AOSP kernel, and not a Sense kernel.
Second, ICS, with Sense 3.0... so soon? So fast? No incompat problems ? No framework issues?
I don't like posts like this, to doubt before evidence, but this smells baddly of vaporware.
Unless its cotulla in a mask I don't believe it. Seeing as nobody has a perfected gingerbread sense, it doubt there is a an ICS sense.
Lock please...
As much as I agree with the above posts, the XDA environment allows anyone to make a thread as long as it is relevant.
Before calling a 'lock' or anything on this thread, the guy has the opportunity to come forth with something relevant. Give him a chance (until tomorrow, as he says) to release or at least give feedback on the criticism.
MrP.
You're right. We should not start spreading FUD... but recently... i've seen so many threads promising world (not just in HD2) and after 30/40 pages of posts... nothing.
Still.... lets us wait... and bleed.
This could be another great developer making a dramatic entrance, or a very bad joke. Tomorrow can not come soon enough.
BTW, tytung does have two R14 kernel for sense rom. Check it out here and here.
Have alook to his 11 previous posts... and cry...
Bad joke methink.

I like this guy.
Moved to general, until you release something usable.
Was wondering why something like this was in general. Will be interesting to see the turnout, hats off to the OP if he has accomplished this
is that possible
Noons knows. Maybe, maybe not. Personally I'd say it's unlikely, with the KF being a budget tablet.

I highly doubt it. Why would it? It uses such an altered form of Gingerbread as it is it hardly seems necessary. The android base is really just a method to deliver amazon services, and unless there is a tidal shift in app devs dropping gingerbread support, which isn't going to happen with the Fire's significant user base, then I see no reason for them to.

officially?
No. At least not for a long, long time. And only then, it would be merely to continue having compatibility with future Android apps that may be targeted to ICS.
Yea i doubt if they would. If they do it will be really old.

This is the Galaxy tab 10.1 forum. We don't have the same hardware, so this won't help anyone here.
Yup. It was announced two days ago. It was Motorola's way of squeezing the last buck out of the xoom before they can it. They wanted it to appeal to the masses because of ics' huge "success."

I think we're missing the bigger picture here..... Xoom got ICS before the SGT10.1 did, before CM9 was moved out of Alpha, before any other tablet on the market today! Sure, it's a "pure Google experience" device, and Google wanted Moto to get the first crack at it, which is all understandable from the official ROM release standpoint, but where the hell are we in all this? I thought CM9 was a go on the SGT10.1 before any other tablet?
Still waiting patiently, but man, that really sucks for us.....
Pretty sure there are hardware issues preventing a finished port. Check out the Cyanogen interview from another site.

Youre forgetting xoom was lead vehicle for honeycomb so it is likely part of the deal that they get first update

Google is purchasing Motorola Mobility. So the xoom getting ics first shouldn't surprise anyone.
How is this surprising news? Anybody who can read would know the xoom would get ics first.

Google is TRYING to purchase Motorola, doesn't mean it's going to happen. Remember all the people who said "hey, at&t bought Tmobile!" or "hey, at&t is buying Tmobile!"

not sure I get you: CM9 is a modified ICS build that uses ICS code + specific hardware drivers (so it's custom for each device); a google experience device is specifically designated by google to be the first with new OS version. So you should expect the GED to get the update before any official CM9 is released. Also, I have to disagree that it "sucks for us" - don't conflate someone else's good fortune with your own bad fortune.

Wasn't the ATP just released with ICS, not updated to it?
Also, I'm pretty glad to see that ICS is rolling out for ANYTHING that wasn't given to it at birth. Doesn't anybody see that this just means things are moving along as they should be? At least in the smallest bit?
ATP initially shipped with HC.
It's no surprise that Xoom was the first - in fact I'm shocked it took this long for it to get an official update release, considering it's been supported in AOSP from the beginning.
As others have said, the Xoom was a Google Experience device. Consider it to be the Nexus of Honeycomb tablets.
I've waited very patiently for ICS on the Gtab 10.1. I think I still have a bit of patients left. Task's rom makes the tab enjoyable for now.

I think you mean "patience."
If the gtab 10.1 gets an official OTA what will that mean for CM9? Would it just be a quick fix to any lingering CM9 issues and thereby push us into a CM9 custom ROM immediately? Or would the CM9 devs have to re-develop the new distribution for release?
You know...
There are two things I always hear in technology forums:
1- WOW! Look a girl in the forum!
2- OMG! You always complain....
But yeah, maybe they are right.. Maybe I complain... a lot...
You know, its not that I am jealous that Moto has got ICS before Samsung.
What drives me crazy is that fact we dont even have an ETA. I wouldnt mind waiting until March or April, but a dead line would be nice, or at least a sign that they are doing something! A beta maybe?? A proof of concept? Photos??
But no... Not even a word, nothing...
Last I heard from Samsung is that they got sued by Apple... Then....
*NOTHING*
What exactly are you looking to do differently on your tab when you get ICS?
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk
Stardate is right lol
besides the difference in the system build, what are you going to do with it? having HC 3.2 and ICS 4.0, you'll do the same thing. what is so proud of getting ICS first when you do know GT10.1 will get it later on. maybe Samsung just keep it as a secret to do more experience test than others.
