I'm not really familiar with what android version Cricket currently has on the Droid X, but I just picked up one this week from C Spire. My best suggestion would be to just root and uninstall any preinstalled apps that you couldn't otherwise if you don't have to sbf for your carrier and android version readily available. I'll actually be returning my phone this morning because I made the mistake of trying to flash Liberty3, and it somehow has FUBAR'd the bootloader on my end (absolutely no luck with the sbf using rsd lite or sbf flash on ubuntu).
Coming from the HTC Hero, I can go ahead and tell you that the way these two companies do bootloaders are entirely different beasts. The Hero was an absolute breeze to root and flash roms on, but that may also have been because of its huge userbase at one point as well. Anyways, I'm not sure exactly what you mean by losing the Cricket flash, but the original rom will be completely replaced if you flash the rom correctly (wiping data, cache, and dalvik from the bootloader).
edit:
After Googling some terms for the Droid X on Cricket, I don't think you'll have nearly as much of an issue if you follow the guides available. Just read carefully and always do a nandroid backup if possible.

You will not lost the flash unless you SBF, or upgrade to gingerbread if your not currently on it. The worst part about flashing custom ROM's is getting everything working again. What I mean about everything working is MMS, and web. MMS is the hardest. Try my thread here http://www.cricketusers.com/verizon-motorola-droid-x/12264-working-apn-mms-apk.html#post21416 and see if you can get it working. Before doing anything make a backup so you can fall back onto a working rom.

Droid 2 Global, a few questions

Ok so I'm new to customizing Android. I had a droid Eris but i never did anything other than changing launchers and such, now i have the Droid 2 Global (in white ) and im feelin up for customizing it.
Just to give some history on myself i had an HTC Touch Pro and did alot of romming and stuff on it so im not a total noob. However, android is quite different from WM from what ive gathered.
So here's what i get... I've got it rooted using the z4root program and i have bootstrap recovery for it. From my understanding, to rom an android device you go to this custom recovery and (after savin a rom's .zip file to your sdcard) you flash the zip to the phone, bam new rom. (QUESTION 1) Now is there anything else i need to know about flashing a rom, like anything else i should do other than just flash the zip. i keep hearing things about wipe this and that and nandroid backups and such but dont fully understand all that so help there would be appreciated.
Now to more device specific questions (QUESTION 2) i keep hearing the term "sbf". from what i've gathered it has something to do with the stock rom (right?) and for the D2G we dont have this yet (also right?) and if i want to play it safe for now as i am indeed a newbie to this, i should wait until there is a D2G sbf to flash a custom rom just in case something goes wrong i can go back to it(also also right?)
(QUESTION 3) Also, i see a few roms floating around in the D2 forums, but only one (Droid 2 Global Stock, deodexed, busybox blah blah) actually says its for the D2G. Should i stray away from flashing any of the others because they might brick/not work with my phone? Also what does "deodexed" and "busybox" and terms like that mean? Are there similar terms i should familiarize myself with?
If you had the patience to read all that, i thank you. If you have the kindness to answer any or all of my questions, i thank you again! Any help you guys got is much appreciated
Short answer. No roms are available for the D2G as yet. I know someone who tried the fission rom with success but had a few bugs with it. For now, root works so you can remove all the junk motorola included(well I like them).
SBF is said to enable you to return your phone back to factory if it's messed up or I guess brick. Without this file, no devs are willing to brick their $500+ device right now.
And so the wait continues.
*Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong..
alright, that makes sense, i wouldnt want to either lol. you say you can remove junk by being rooted...how so? all ive been able to do rooted that i couldnt do unrooted is wireless tether and adblock lol.

[Q] Which EVO Rom to go with?

Ok so I am getting 2 HTC EVO's from a buddy of mine, Im going to be putting them on metropcs for my girlfirend and myself. Im going to do the flash by following the guides I found below;
1. Go to metro store and have them do a port for $30 (unless somone know a cheaper way to get my ESN added to metro's database)
1.5 Update Phone to 2.2 Froyo (if its not already, im not sure what android version is on these yet)
2. Root Phone and Unlock nand by using the method in this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsoVzMadiQE
3. Get all the goodies working, by following this page.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=796257
Now this is where my questions comes in. First, Does anyone see a problem with my choice of guides? If followed properly should everything above work just fine? Second, I want to flash the custom rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=795182
What are all the different downloads for? Are they differet builds or are they things that need to be installed on the phone after the flash? is there maybe a link to a guide on the rom itself?
And if I do flash a different rom, will all of the above settings still stick? SO is it literally 1. Install rom from SD 2. Boot rom and wait 3. Have fun? I wont need to "redo" anything after flashing?
Hope someone will lend me a hand here. Im not new to flashing phones, but I am new to flashing smart phones, For the most part the seems pretty straight forward.
Also I have the $40 MetroPCS Talk,Text,Web Plan, I do not live in a evdo market so I do not have 3G access, I will be using 1x and thats fine with me. However, do I need to upgrade my plan to beable to make this work? If yes then which plan would work best? if I dont "need" to upgrade, would there be any benifeit in doing so?
Ok I think thats it for my questions...Now I just cant wait to get the phones, he'll hopefully ship them on saturday.
try many roms and see what works best

I found a List of different roms, but do I need to use roms specific for MetroPCS or can I safely use any rom and everything should work?
Also is it safe to flash multiple roms? is it fixable if you get a bad flash?

That's an interesting question. I'm pretty new to flashing myself, but have been doing a lot of reading here and now have flashed 3 different ROMs. As far as the MetroPCS thing, someone else will have to answer that one. I only think of the EVO on Sprint. Can't think of a reason why any of the ROMs wouldn't work, other than Sprint specific apps, but don't know for sure.
As far as flashing multiple ROMs, from what I gather you can flash as many as you want. Of course you can only have one running at a time, but as long as you do your wipes between flashes, you should be good to go. If I'm wrong about this, somebody please let me know.

Your correct, but I thought the roms are specific to the carrier, look at the evo rom for cricket.

Ok so ill start looking around for MetroPCS specific roms. Does anyone know a good place to start looking?
as far as using sprint, I though about it, I also thought about porting to boost because with boost i could still get 3g, where with metro ill only get 1x. However Neither Sprint nor Boost have service within about 5mi of my apartment. Not only that but MetroPCS has actually been good to me for the past 2years.
Ok I found the Rom im looking for, but maybe im just slow, but IDK how to install it...

I want it with CM7, how do I accomplish this?
I recommend ACS or any EvoKings roms. Sick as hell and functional

T-Mobile Uk Roms

Hi all, just got an upgrade this week to the Atrix and thoroughly enjoying it so far. As a poweruser with the HD2 and all the hacks involved like android on nand etc, the first thing I did out of the box was root it.
Now to my point, all the custom roms I'm seeing seem to be for At+t and Bell (is that the right carriers?), and the forum is Atrix 4G. So can I as a UK user use these same roms/radios that are outlined in the development forum?
Any help is appreciated, Thanks in advance.
Greetings. I have the same backround as you . I nearly stayed with my hd2 but i'm glad I didn't. The only gingerbread rom for us is the orange one in the dev forum. I have had no success flashing this yet. Soft bricked 3 times and counting.
There is an international fruit cake in the works rich we will be able to flash from CWM.
So far rooting is fine.
Unlockingbootloader is fine.
flashing Cwm if fine.
I keep meaning to start a t-mob uk thread to collect all the info for us uk tmob users into one place. I will get round to it eventualy if some one doesn't beer me to it.

Hi there.
I am on Orange U.K, and i have successfully flashed this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1169409. Following this guide to flash the ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1167373.
Many international users have flashed this ROM as well but REMEMBER to unlock your bootloader before even considering flashing this ROM.
When unlocking your bootloader, you will notice that you will only have around 300 total RAM but if you flash the hack relevant to your device, you will retain your RAM when you flash to Gingerbread.
Please follow the guide properly and don't skip any step. BTW, if your bootloader is not unlocked, we will probably be getting Gingerbread soon since the SOAK testing is about to begin very soon.
Similar story, i'm on Orange, followed those steps and it's working great. Just had to replace the missing sound files, but apart from that, works a treat.

Now since we have an unlocked bootloader, you can flash any ROM. Just make sure you flash the proper boot.img for your phone. See the fixes section for the pudding thread.

I thought we still had to be careful with the Roms, as some of them contain files that are tied to the kernel version (until the port everything over). For example, the ninja rom, I believe it is crrently tied to AT&T at the moment. I presumed we had to wait for a safe INTL version..
I think we can install and lunch any Rom now. The only limitation for inte. users is Ram issue. Otherwise will work fine.

great, thanks. Maybe I'll try another rom then I'd like one without any MotoBlur stuff on it, although the French 2.3.4 is running very well.

MB810 with MB809 official rom >>>ROOTED<<<

just wanted to say that i rooted the (mb809) alltel milestone-x rom on my vzw droid-x (mb810)
just gonna give a run down of BASICALLY what i did
i SBF SHADO_X6_3.1.39_SHADOW_BP_C_02.06.00R_AP_BP_Flex_20_signed_secure_alltel_1ff_P3_USERBLD.sbf
to my droid-x
i then rooted with superoneclick 2.1.1
i then droid2bootstrapper
all is good
NOW LISTEN there are alot of steps i did not include
im just listing the basics and that it can be done for sure
you will need to research a little more
the reason i went to the alltel rom is for a couple reason
the hdmi out
the "use gps satelites" only works on the alltel rom and cm7 roms when you do not have the phone activated with vzw
i also needed root for some apps like snes and more
anyhow the alltel rom is clean....like it alot
Can you explain a little bit more as to the purpose of this? I know of the Milestone X, but what does its ROM offer over the DroidX? Is it stock GB or what? I'm very interested here.
ok:
vzw roms 2.2.340 and 4.5.596 do not allow "use gps satelites" when you do not have the phone activated.
so if i wanted to use standalone gps i had to use an AOSP rom like CM7 or the ALLTEL rom for the milestone-x.
if i wanted to use CM7 i would gain my GPS but lose my HDMI out through gallery or videos
if i wanted to use the alltel rom i would lose root so no super user for installing apk`s i like.
so i figured out how to root the alltel rom and now i have a really clean rom that has HDMI out and "use gps satelites" and rooted.
its really the best for me.
the alltel rom is the cleanest rom i have seen and i think that even includes cm7
Maybe a silly question: can you use this and still be on Verizon?
that is a good question.
i really cant tell ya cause i dont have vzw.
maybe someone can test it for ya
it IS a very clean rom
hey i did the same thing as u... i bought a droid x and switched it over to alltel but now with the rooted milestone x rom do u think i can install custom droid x roms without any problems?

im really not sure.
i have not been brave enough to flash straight over to CM7 from rooted alltel.
the android OS is the same as it is on 2.2.340 from vzw but im not sure about the kernel.
if the kernels are the same it "should" work but i really dont know.
be the brave one
i think the worse that can happen is SBF back to 2.2.340 but i really not even sure about that.

[Q] Going From Darkside back to STOCK T-Mobile

As the title suggests, i honestly have tried searching etc for my answers. But being a noob i cannot make sense of what to do.
Basically i have a t mobile UK atrix, i unlocked bootloader, flashed CWM and flashed Darksides ROM through the recovery.
I now want to go back to T- Mobile Stock completly were i can safely update officially without hard bricking my device . (if possible remow unlocked bootloader and CWM)
Please in desperate need of help
Once you unlock your bootloader, you can't lock it back -- there's a physical switch in your phone that gets broken once you issue the fastboot oem unlock command. However, you can get back to stock by installing the appropriate "fruit cake" for your phone. Once you have done that, the phone will be able to OTA update, if that's what you want to do. You can find those files in the dev section.
Thank You for your reply, will it also be able to update via motorola update software on pc ?
and do you have any recomendation for which fruit cake i shoudl install for a stock T-Mobile UK Atrix
i really cannot find the Fruit Cake i need to flash for a T-Mobile UK atrix ??? please help
Since Samcripp made the fruit-cake maker app, you could definitely request that someone make it for you. Please don't do that in the dev section, unless you want to get flamed lol.
Iv'e requested in the fruit maker thread, im currently on darkside 4.0 so would it really be so dangeroud to flash it via another method to a stock t mobile rom on 2.3.4? instead of fruitcake
Nope u can flash the 2.3.4 sbf. But nothing prior to that.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
Like phalantx said you can flash sbf for t-mobile and you will get rid off unlocked in the top left corner. I know it would brick at&t mobile but tmob uk is safe.
edit//
YOU CAN FLASH 2.2.3 SBF even if you got 2.3.4 atm. I did and all worked great. I sent it back for warranty and they accepted ( broken digitizer). I didn't read phalanx post properly.
REMEMBER YOU DOING THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. I TAKE NO BLAME FOR BROKEN MOBILE. JUST SHARING MY EXPERIENCE.

Thank you very much for that post i will attemot and get back to you much LOVE
JUST used RSD to flash the only t mobile sbf i could find which was 2.3.3 i believe... I almost died as i my notification light flashed red BUT i booted into stock Recovery and did a factory reset now all is WELL
thank you everyone for your help
Just wandering if i can update to the latest firmware from here now by use of the motorola update centre
Yeah I did a factory reset after sbf as well.
Sent from Motorola Atrix
I may have read over the answer to my question already, but why are you going from DarkSide to stock?
and if it is to get the official update, why not just flash one of the new 2.3.6 roms or wait for an updated darkside?
