I was looking forward to updating to flash 10.2 today but now I am disappointed by it. Games like Zuma and Bejewled on facebook is so slow especially the former. I only have one web page opened and I did restart the Xoom after the flash installed.
I'm loving it! i was able to stream March Madness game from CBSSports.com on WiFi without a problem.

Started watching this weeks Survivor episode on CBS.com too. Worked as expected - this is flash we're talking about, it won't pay your taxes or do your laundry.
That being said, I love the fact that I can do this on a tablet.
Ustream is completely buttery... already uninstalled the app and everything

Flash works GREAT on my xoom! no studering even with 5 web pages open! EVERYTHING works as intended!.
its flash...
It's specifically stated to see it as beta for 3.0.1 devices when you look into the description. It'll improve with future updates.

Today I updated Flash and tried You Tube HD flash clip, and it flies like crazy WOW!!! And FULL HD1080p is now chopy like 720p before this update.
I'm impressed, since I saw HD flash playback on SGS 2, I thought that SGS reached it's limit. I was so wrong
Will check for a flash update.

got this update since yesterday but haven't tested it yet with hd material. going to try this out tonight. I'll let you guys know if there are any improvements.
Works wonders, 720p is as smooth as on a SGS2 now
edit: Stock rom, completely bone stock JVB
Same for me. 720p good, 1080p no fun.
Looking at the changelog, it seems like they've added hardware acceleration.
Is it only on gingerbread, or also on froyo 2.2.1?
Yh, 720p works flawlessly.
Im on the deodex stock JVB rom with chainfire 3.1 kernal.
Went on youtube (desktop version) using Opera Mobile web browser.
Before it didnt allow you to change the quality but now you can.

I think it depends on if the browser supports hardware acceleration and I dont think the stock android browser does. Opera Mobile does.
I have just watched some vids with the new flash player and it seems really smooth.
I'm running js5 so froyo 2.2.1 is faster too.
Maybe there isn't even hardware acceleration.
In the market they say something about 3.0 (android 3.0 -> honeycomb).
But whatever, it doesn't matter how they did it.
It matters that they did it.
Those two videos posted are slideshows on cm7 browser/opera. Even at 1.5ghz oc

Must mean it only works in 2.3 then, the gingerbread roms are pretty good now, its worth considering
Yeah the market description says hardware acceleration in android 3, if it also works in 2.3 that would be awesome. I'm leaning towards taking the plunge with the next kitchen update, either that or wait until 2.3.4 comes out (in May?).

In another thread someone mentioned that they were able to play the videos by browsing to the website.
I tried that in the stock browser and the video started playing. It looked nice and smooth and HD. After about 2-3 mins, the framerate dropped to like 3 frames per second and the video become unwatchable. I couldnt figure out a way to fix it, so I gave up.
This is a deal breaker for me considering how awesome HBO Go is. Any rooted devices/custom roms got it running?

this is debatable. Not everyone has been having the same success as you. I have tried a couple different browsers and the video starts out smooth, then after a few minutes the frames drop and it's unwatchable.
Haven't been able to figure out why, since I have plenty of RAM available.
Contact HBO. They have to make it work.
It's only a matter of time until this app has GTab 10.1 support. Email the developer. I did. And I'm having success watching it through Dolphin HD

Ok, this is not an iPad vs Xoom debate but...I have in my possession an iPad 2 and a Xoom (perks of my work). I've had the ipad for about 2 weeks and the Xoom for only 2 days so I want to try to be fair but...
I think to myself, let's see how streaming video works on xoom compared to ipad. on ipad:
Netflix app - works great - Xoom - no such app
Hbogo on iPad works great - Xoom - no such app
Vudu on ipad works great - Xoom - no such app
Hulu Plus on ipad works - Xoom - what's hulu?
Just some other things I noticed -
looked for Wall Street Journal app which is great on iPad, but no such app
DirecTV app for iPad has some extra features than the Xoom app
Bank of AMerica App for ipad is nice but no such app for Xoom
Now I know, to each his own and purchase based on your needs but come on! Only thing iPad doesn't seem to do as well to me is flash of course.
Am I missing something?
I am a droid lover, Droid Original then Droid 2, then Droid Incredible etc. all rooted but a bit dissappointed in the feature list for Xoom. Am I alone?

Its not the limitation of xoom, in general its honeycomb OS itself. Some of the popular apps might showing up in market hopefully by end of this year.

Those of us that have rooted and flashed custom roms like Tiamat l.l have perfect ability to access hbogo, hulu, just about anything via the browser. I use Dolphin HD and the Tiamat rom lets the browser function as a desktop rather than mobile device. And yes, flash is great.
Bottom line...I'm not missing anything and I've got flash.

Hmmm, so, you can do HBOGO and hulu because you are rooted and can load another browser that is capable of running those apps? In other words, it's not the ROM that allows this but the rooted device allowing a different browser that HBOGO works on?
thanks for your reply
Your point is well taken. But the same list should include all of the sites you CAN stream from due to flash. I believe Netlfix and Hulu are both Silverlight based.
I stream from Amazon all of the time.

>Does anyone but me not mind the lack of streaming videos?
+1. Don't have a TV.
Its the same browser (or you can use a different one), its just changing your user agent report to desktop, not android. Hulu is flash, and you can modify flash to also report desktop, not android, and that enables streams. HBO is probably similar. And Netflix will come, as it has a tegra and Netflix/nvidia have said tegras have features for Netflix. Also, you can get play on, which streams from every source under the moon for a few bucks a month extra. And it plays nice with honeycomb.

Starting to make it sound better. I didn't want to root until I made a decision on returning it or not but I think I'll keep it and I just may have to get my wife an ipad

im not rooted and yes it sux, I am actually debating on taking it back and just waiting until next year or see what Netflix/hbogo will do with the xoom2. I think 3.2 will be out this month so maybe that might intrigue them to make an app.

You can install flash_player and dolphin off the market. Go to settings in dolphin, and change your UA to desktop.
Don't have to be rooted.
I have a 47" TV that I use for video play back so that it why it doesn't bother me. Now if I was 16 and didn't have a tv then it would.
The app selection is pretty lame but as a backup I also have an iPad.

Sorry for being so touchy...maybe I misunderstood your comment.
Re-reading the thread, it came to me that people are really having two very different experiences with the Xoom. There's plain vanilla out of the box, which is nice but lacks some functionality, and the experience of those that have unlocked, rooted and customized their Xoom. The point I was trying to make is that if you're willing to be hands-on, you can have just about all the functions you are looking for.
Is it just mine our do all tegra 2 tablets suck at video playback?

I have not had your experience. I have browsed to YouTube using Dolphin for Tablets as my browser and watched a video. I have also used the built in YouTube app. Perhaps you have a poor WiFi connection, bad routing to the source or something else.
I would suggest a bit more investigation?
Happened to me before. It went away after I upgraded my crappy wifi.

I'm getting on average of 20mbps up and down so i'm certain it's not my wifi. I'm running the revolver 3.1 rom with the stock kernel. Can't figure it out. Might be time to just trade it for something different. I have a touchpad that doesn't have an issue with video playback so it has to be something with the transformer, mine I mean.

You're getting 20mbps sustained transfer up and down? over wifi? On your transformer? I doubt it. If video playback actually pauses rather than stutters then it's 99% bet to be your wifi or other network issue.
IF you actually have stuttering then review the link posted above to fix flash in dolphin or stock brower.
Also I would try streaming a high bitrate video on your network locally to completely rul out the browser and flash.
Try this rom, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1245892
