YouTube video playback sux - Eee Pad Transformer General

Is it just mine our do all tegra 2 tablets suck at video playback?
Does anyone know of a fix?
I can't get thru a 5 min video without it stopping 4 times. It's enough to make me want to throw it out of the window at times.
Thanks

I have not had your experience. I have browsed to YouTube using Dolphin for Tablets as my browser and watched a video. I have also used the built in YouTube app. Perhaps you have a poor WiFi connection, bad routing to the source or something else.
I would suggest a bit more investigation?

Happened to me before. It went away after I upgraded my crappy wifi.

I'm getting on average of 20mbps up and down so i'm certain it's not my wifi. I'm running the revolver 3.1 rom with the stock kernel. Can't figure it out. Might be time to just trade it for something different. I have a touchpad that doesn't have an issue with video playback so it has to be something with the transformer, mine I mean.

How does one fix their wifi? I'm getting great numbers on speedtest.
Here are a few of my runs, I watched some hi def videos on line on YouTube. I guess is only the YouTube app giving me issues.
Thanks

You're getting 20mbps sustained transfer up and down? over wifi? On your transformer? I doubt it. If video playback actually pauses rather than stutters then it's 99% bet to be your wifi or other network issue.
IF you actually have stuttering then review the link posted above to fix flash in dolphin or stock brower.
Also I would try streaming a high bitrate video on your network locally to completely rul out the browser and flash.

Try this rom, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1245892

I get close to the same numbers on my atrix as well. My wifes captivate gets in the low teens, I haven't run a speed test on either my hp or my vaio laptop. Going to make a run with my aria and see what it gets.
Thanks for the tip, I will give it a try.

In another thread someone mentioned that they were able to play the videos by browsing to the website.
I tried that in the stock browser and the video started playing. It looked nice and smooth and HD. After about 2-3 mins, the framerate dropped to like 3 frames per second and the video become unwatchable. I couldnt figure out a way to fix it, so I gave up.
This is a deal breaker for me considering how awesome HBO Go is. Any rooted devices/custom roms got it running?

this is debatable. Not everyone has been having the same success as you. I have tried a couple different browsers and the video starts out smooth, then after a few minutes the frames drop and it's unwatchable.
Haven't been able to figure out why, since I have plenty of RAM available.
Contact HBO. They have to make it work.
It's only a matter of time until this app has GTab 10.1 support. Email the developer. I did. And I'm having success watching it through Dolphin HD

Only way possible is via the tv station website if they stream over the internet.
Or as the other gent said slingbox.
I dont recomend remoting into an htpc with a tv tuner because the resources required will not allow for decent quality video.
It would probably be jumpy missing dozens of frames per couple of sconds and have rolling lines from screen refreshes.
But if you are at home doing this its possible remote desktop might be ok.
But via cellular or public wifi...? No

It 'may' be possible but will require additional hardware.
I have an HDHomeRun from SiliconDust and essetinally, what it does is stream my OTA antenna to my network computers.
Was reading about an Android App and ran across posts on a forum @ SiliconDust that someone there metioned an app called SinCast from Sinderon:
When I get time, I'll try it out and report back (may be a day or two before I get time).
I second the slingbox option. Easy and just works

Try Vulkano Flow. A less expensive alternative to slingbox. The quality of the picture on the tablet is awesome.

HC 3.2 : borked jerky video...

Usual google, you pretty much plan on media breaking somehow with every release.
With previous versions you could rely on a good 3rd party player like Dice to rectify the lack of smooth video. But with 3.2 they made sure it sucked universally. Rips that were butter smooth on 3.1 are a jerky mess in 3.2. Even with 3rd party players.
Yay for CWM and nandroid.

Hi bro,
I can see you are on wifi tab. I'm on 3g tab and 3.2 did gave me smooth playback with diceplayer. But in 3.1 3g, its the other way around. I look around and some did reported the same issue with 3.2 wifi tab. Something definately broke here for wifi tab.
Thanks for the info. Pretty frustrating...

I have the same issue, but it's fairly random, but I am playing videos from a SMB share. Sometimes I'll get through an hour before it quits, sometimes 5 minutes. This is using MX Player, Dice player, and Rockplayer. They all have the same issue. In my case, it could be an issue with the device retaining the connection to the SMB share.
Try dice player from the market, works really good!

some people have had issues with their tabs where video intense application start to freeze, crash or quit. A factory reset seems to be the trick to fix this. Yes, you lose all your data and have to start from scratch, but potentially no more issues.
This is not a guaranteed fix, but many people have had luck with it.

Using BS Player with no issues whatsoever playing h264 HD videos in hour-long intervals.
Do you happen to use Kaspersky? I’ve had a similar problem which disappeared after uninstalling Kaspersky!
Many intermittent pauses and crashes when watching videos over smb connection. Sometimes it will go for an hour or two with no problem, sometimes it's within a few minutes. Most often the tablet will reboot.
Pausing a video, then putting device into sleep mode, will always cause a reboot.
And, still not much luck in maximizing flash video playback, always crashes tablet in dolphin hd, or stock browser.

[Q] HD on the Youtube app?

Hey. I'm new here Thought i'd see if you guys could answer a question for me.
I was wondering if anyone knew exactly what the resolution of videos playing in the nexus 10 youtube app are? I haven't actually got my nexus yet, but I imagine it's the same as my S3, where the player only has a "SD" and "HD" option.
Is the HD just equivilent to 720p? Or will it choose the highest possible resolution for the video? I'm asking this because watching youtube videos in 1080p would be really nice
Thanks!
I am curious too since it does not lt you select.
Pretty sure it's 720p on the app for HD.
I'll do a test when I get home later.
I've been wondering that too
Youtube app will render videos to Hd720p. If you want full 1080p you'll have to use the browser.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Thanks for the replies.
That's annoying Would be nice if google could update the app for tablets so we can view 1080p videos without having to use the browser.
Google should update the app and give you the option because the browser page is not good in my opinion slow laggy and hard to use with a touch screen.
Why make a Google product and then hinder it with low quality video stream. Honestly its one thing that annoys me with with his tablet how soft videos look from the YouTube app. It does not do this amazing tablet justice , lucky I have nice images to look at lol

Yup, 720p only.

If google says jump, youtube says how high. They are their subsidiary.
With the Nexus 10 and its supreme display resolution I guess we can expect an update to the YouTube app pretty soon. I expect a 1080p option.
Yes, 1600p would be nice but don't forget at this resolution/bitrate many people won't be able to stream it anymore, at least not in an acceptable time frame.

It was a sarcastic question hence the face. Thanks for joining in on the conversation.
Nexus 10 doesn't come with radio for data hence me asking as if his Nexus 10 did.
I hope this explanation clears things up for you so you aren't confused by sarcasm.
Yeah it would be nice if they updated the app, but I suppose 720p isn't too bad on a 10 inch screen anyway.
Youtube only supports up to 2048x1536 at the moment anyway. Hopfully 1600p youtube will come eventually
Youtube 720p looks surprisingly good on the N10 to me. If they add a 1080p option I definitely hope 720p is still selectable.

Well, let me answer with some numbers:
I have a really high quality video on my N10 (the Timescape Trailer), it's 1440p and 33.5 mbit/sec worth of data.
Even with high compression a 1600p video would be like 10-20 mbit/sec or around 40 mbit/sec in very high quality.
