[Q] WP7 SD card Boot???? - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

Is it in anyways possible to get the windows phone7 rom ported for use through SD card only?
I kno its an odd question but if it were possible i would really like to kno.
There already are plenty of android roms ported, and if not can it be achieved in the future.
Actually that ways we can run several versions of windows7 at the same time
Thanks in advance

[POLL] When a NAND version is released, Will you flash?

First of all lets not turn this into a war of the mobile OS's....Everyone has their own oppinions and needs, which is why there will NEVER be a definitive answer to the Question: Which is better, WinMo or Android? So please dont start flamewars or fanboy arguments in this thread.
The purpose of this poll is to determine how many of you will be 'switching' to Android on a pemanent basis, and how many of you will be sticking with Windows Mobile in some capacity.
I ask this because originally when I first tested Android, I envisaged myself sticking with Windows Mobile when a flashable Android ROM was released.
Then as great progress began to be made with the AndroidHD2 development, I began to think that windows was dead to me and I eagerly awaited the NAND version of Android.
Now I am beginning to think that I might stick with a dual boot option even when the NAND version comes. Ideally I would like to have Android as my flashed ROM with a version of WM 6.5.x running from SD as a dual boot option.
So... When the NAND Flashable version of Android for HD2 comes...What will you do?
(I know this should be in the 'General HD2 Android' section but there isn't one...yet. Mods, please move when possible).
I like the widgets and backgrounds, android is just so much easier.
But for tomtom, I'll still be using my winmo. Some stuff just req windows to function.
So, best of both worlds, I guess..
If i can still retain WinMo then sure, why not... but if it's not possible then i'll stick to the Micro SD card. I wouldn't want to give up my ability to dual boot.
The Android builds are fast enough anyways on the card and i'm sure a class 6 Micro SD will be faster than the NAND anyways.
As well as in PCs, having dual boot means you can use both OSes Apps. So I will stick to dual boot.
I plan on buying the next big android phone tmobile and htc come up with (and i have a nexus one), so my hope for the hd2 is flashing wp7. I dont know if you nand flash if you would be able to flash wp7 if there are gonna be wp7 roms.
ANDROID: NAND
WINMO:SD card
Ubuntu: SD card
iOS4: SD card
and I wish having a new bootloader possible to select before splashscreen.
Cheer!

Now THATS what Im talkin about!
Even the iOS4 might make it onto my card if a version was ever released for HD2...one more app store cant hurt
Here's the thing
If we flash Android to nand, will there be any going back? Will there ever be updates to future versions of android? This is the primary thing to me, if the dev's will continue to upgrade Android for future versions then I might flash, but if it's kind of a one and done, I'd probably stick with dual booting. I'm also hoping that there is eventually a wp7 port for the hd2 as well...
I'm thinking if it's worth investing in a class 6 card to keep dualboot, what do u guys think about the performance difference between NAND and Class 6?

same for me, the other gps software are.... not as good and easy as tomtom.
I will use Winmo for tomtom only and the rest on android
maybe tomtom release a android version

Would it ever be possible to have iOS on a hd2? That would be great for all the extra apps.
I am happy with Android on SD card and dual booting.
I prefer the functionality of a dual boot, but in appealability I would much prefer to run Android as a day to day phone when the nand is finally ported. But I wouldn't jump in feet first,I'd hope that it was totally reversible and not flash back & forth, just that winmo could stay as an option to return to. And that the devs can continue to feed us with fresher versions when they become available.

And I'm thinking there is a different thread on that subject
i prefer winmo over the android , im returning to winmo , its just my openion :!
Bye bye winmo
The only thing that winmo is doing in my phone right now is to help me to run haret.
sure i would flash it, just to satisfy my curiosity, but i would eventually stick with dual booting winmo and android on SD.
NAND is so close....the Devs are finishing the structure port...them is a question of work to give the polish in all.
today the dev work is located on leds notification.
were is the status thread?
for the poll, I will make what turns more eficient the performance of Android....including the question of baterie life, very important.

This is great news! i really do start reading the dev channel logs to keep up to date
triple booting
i am sticking with triplebooting android ,ubuntu, winmo.i am using a class 4 card and the speed is great, moving up to class 6 .my hd2 with android scores better than my brothers evo on linpack, and quadrant.
At the moment I will stay on dual boot. Cant wait for a really stable Android for HD2 If we can get TomTom or iGO8 on Android then i will go with it on NAND.

Converting from an NAND rom to SD Rom

Hi All,
Can we use the System.img released with NAND roms as an SD build?
I see many nice builds released right now for NAND, and a decrease in SD builds. I prefer to use SD based builds -> any solution?

There is a decrease because the NAND versions are so darn perfect and solid. I am assuming you want to continue with SD versions to keep WM 6.5 as a dual boot option? If not, then just do a NAND flash and use your SD card for what it was intended for, mass storage! NAND is the way to go, SD card is so last year! Lol!
I've actually been searching for the last couple of days for the complete opposite, converting a sd version to a nand. Already found the wonderful world of nand converting to cwm.
i would like to stick with sd version as i still havent found a fully satisfied version...i am wondering does nand will work way better and stable than sd version? because im keep changing different build to test which one is the best one out of them.
Its a matter of opinion, you have to at least have a base of what your looking for, for example, I like sense builds, not many are out there, but I try them, they all have their pros and cons, its what you can live with and what you cant. Or as many have said, make your own. I got into doing that with WinMo when I didnt like much of the builds out there. Now I may just read up on seeing about making my own build for myself.
But in short, have a base of what your looking for and go from there.
i tried to extract the system.img and put the files into a generated system.ext2, the process was successful, but the system.ext2 wont boot, it kept rebooting.
maybe there's another way to do this
Thanks for all the replies!
1. I like having both Winmo and Android although I do currently use Android more
2. I Am sure NAND builds are super-best-good-times, but I like flashing to have the latest and greatest and find it a big benefit to have WinMo at the backseat
3. Any success with this? are the kernels released for NAND compatible with SD?
It seems that most builds and work is on NAND builds I hope SD and RAM builds (which I think are the best of all worlds) won't be abandoned.

I am also interested in this
I am also interested in doing this. I need to still have my WinMo 6.5 so I can sync my work schedule (ANDROID is NOT supported or allowed) and I have notice a significant Lag in the GPS apps I have tried (IGO, and Aura) on a NAND ROM. If any chef has the time to walk me through it I would greatly appreciate it.
I'm using WP7 and duel boot with Android on SD, I will be returning to Android Nand as my main OS, but I will still test Android SD builds booting from Magldr. The SD forum has slowed down, so I would like to convert nand to sd also. Hopefully someone will find a solution soon. Why not have the best of both. When Magdlr 1.13 comes out, there will proberbly be more interest in this area.
i would also like to do this. because there is some nand roms i would like to convert for my personal use. please someone point us in the right direction.
ok im new and a friend of mind had a sd android on my hd2 now i want the realthing in nand how do i do this, sorry but my friend who did this for me in the begining past away so now im trying (rip gary)

this helped me
I, too, am interested in such a conversion (NAND ROM to SD ROM).
If there is not already an app, there will be. After all, this is XDA.
Actually guys.. you should have used the search box!
Here's a way to do that

[Q] "Nand or SD card" Android? for htc hd2

Hi everybody
I was wondering which version of Android is better for HTC HD2, is NAND better or the SD card method.
right now i am using the sd card method (but it loads the android in the ram so it is fast) but i dont have allot of ram left and i would like more space on my SD card for other stuff , and also i dont care about windows mobile as long as the nand is stable.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870518 (this is the sd card version i m using)
and also another request: if u choose NAND can u all tell me which version to use. (preferance Froyo) but u can say what ever you want.
P.S sorry mods and admins if i m repeating the question that has been asked before

NAND ROM's are just as stable and typically provide a little better performance as far as battery life and responsiveness. As far as what ROM to use it's impossible to say what's best... but I am using Sergio's Core Droid series and it is beautiful as well as very fast, and it has a ton of followers. I would suggest it as one to try out...
I have one on sd still with jdms, and one nand with mdj 2.3 both work nice and both have there problems but if you ever want to remove your sd with the phone on than nand, but to me sd seems the safer bet if you want a everyday build with not a lot of problems.

HD2 Win6.5 + Win7

Hello xdadevs,
i have a question, is it possible to have win6.5 and win7.0 installed on a HTC HD2?
for example win6.5 on device and win7.0 on SD card?
i tried to find some info in the current threads but didnt find anything
thank you in advance
Hello.
It's not possible yet (maybe in future...?). Those are your posibilities:
- Windows Mobile from NAND (stock).
- WM6.5 in NAND, Android from SD Card.
- Android from NAND (no WM).
- Windows Phone 7 in NAND.
- Windows Phone 7 in NAND, Android from SD Card.
There are also other choices like WM in NAND and Ubuntu from sdcard (via HaRET.exe), but those are most popular.
Cotulla said that he is working on a SD version of WM6.5, so if that gets released, you have have wp7 on NAND and WM65 on SD... but it may be a while before that gets released.
thank u so much ppl, ill be in touch with forum to check cotulla's progress
ps:zarathustrax r we ...somehow related ? hehehe (your nick)

LOL... yeah, the first 3 letters are the same. I took my nick from Nietszche's book, which I read a lot in my youth... then just added an X. Don't remember exactly why... I think I was going for something like Zarathustra-X, but didn't separate the X or capitalize it. I don't know exactly what I was thinking at the time... it was a few years ago.
As far as progress about WM65 for SD, cotulla probably won't give updates on progress... probably will just release it suddenly when it's done... if it even works out and he finishes it. It's probably not a high priority for him with all the other projects he's working on, especially now that he's working on magldr for the Rhodium, too. Hopefully we'll see it in the next few months though. I look forward to tribooting wp7, android and WM65.

No you can only have one OS at a time in NAND. One because of limited space in NAND and to you would have to parition it even if you did have enough space and I do not think you can partition the NAND memory of a device as it is not like a actual hard drive or SD card.

just got hd2 i want dual boot

can someone give me a good guide to dual boot, and a good combination of two roms?
It depends what do you want to dual boot?
Do you want to dual boot Windows Mobile and Android from SD card?
Or do you want to dual boot Windows Phone 7 and Android from SD card?
Also interest
Hello,
I'm also interst by dual boot SD/NAnd
I know W7 NAnd/Droid SD is possible but Droid Nand /W7 SD is possible ?
Thanks
After being frustrated with WM6.5 for over a year, then trying a few SD card roms I'd recommend a CM7 nand rom as your base. Very lightweight and blisteringly fast. Might dual boot myself soon but I'm so happy with my "new" phone now it's low down my priority list.
To be honest sense isn't my cup of tea either, my wife's Desire HD appears less slick than my HD2 on CM7 hyperdroid, not even same league, as long as you can live without senses gimmicks.
3 replies, and no one has answered his question. geez.
here's a link to the guide. if this doesn't help, then i don't know what will. it's completely step-by-step:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931192
Also, i would suggest trying to flash a NAND ROM on your HD2. The phone is much faster.
