Updating to 3.2 without TouchWiz - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Something I haven't seen discussed is whether it is possible to upgrade the SGT 10.1 to Honeycomb 3.2 without putting TouchWiz on the tablet. I haven't installed the firmware update that brought TouchWiz and would like to avoid it if possible. Anyone know if this is possible?

Dont believe so. It's either you opt in to Touchwiz and the Samsung upgrade path or you do it with custom ROMs if you want to stick with pure AOSP

No, you cannot do it. If you install from Samsung, you can't avoid TW. And currently there is no 3.2 custom rom without TW.

Is it possible to somehow switch the navigation bar at the bottom back to what it used to look like before touchwiz? Changing launchers doesn't change the navigation bar, so does touchwiz have to be removed all together? If so, how? Anyone

The only way that I can think of would be to flash back to 3.1 pre TW update... I can't remember where I found the odin files for this as its been a while since I did it....
Maybe someone has a link to the odin files needed..... But you'd be back at 3.1.....

If you flash a deodexed ROM, you will get OTA updates but willl not be able to install them as they are odexed.
Deodexed means the framework is tweaked for theming purposes and other customization. IMO, its the the way to go if you're rooted.
This is my choice of rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714184
Very close to stock but with enough goodies to appease me. Also the the Dev is super active and puts out rooted builds of OTAs within hours.
To update the Clockwork recovery, simply use ROM manager.
+1 for geo411m rom!

Shall I buy a Note with GB or a Note with ICS-preinstalled?

I tried S3 and the Note (both with ICS installed) in a store side by side today. Although many people have mentioned that the S3 is faster, I did not notice any difference. (I have tried Note+ICS in different stores. Some devices are faster than the others for unknown reason.) The only time I saw the S3 is faster than the Note is from a youtube video which showed both devices doing the benchmarking. The S3 completed the task faster with higher score.
Anyway, I have decided to buy the Note. We all know that people who have upgraded from GB to ICS have many issues. Has anybody bought a Note with ICS pre-installed? Have you experienced the issues raised by users who upgraded from GB?
I have two choices: 1) buy the Note with GB, wait until Samsung release an updated version of the ICS with bugs fixed. 2) Buy the Note with ICS pre-installed.
I heard that down grading the OS is not possible. If I buy the Note with ICS pre-installed and I have issues raised by other users, can I install the OS made by the talented XDA developers? I heard that even the official ICS has a problem of bricking the device. If I buy the Note+ICS and not satisfied with the performance, will I be stuck?
Your advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Go for GB one. The update is already available so you can always update yourself - and what's more important GB is easy to root so you could run CM9 or any other ROM.
Seems like if I get the Note+ICS and experience problems as others reported, it is difficult to go back because the official ICS can break the device. Even Samsung gave the ICS source code to the talented developers here and a fix may be available soon, it will be too late for me to fix the device because ICS has already been pre-installed. There is no going back. Am I right?
If I decide to root and run CM9 or any other ROM later, can I still install and run Premium Suite? Can I also install the cool stuffs from S3 to the Note with CM9 or any other ROM? Touchwiz seems to be an UI made by Samsung. I heard that it slows down the device. If I root and run CM9 or any other ROM, I can opt for whether or not to install Touchwiz. Right? Won't I void the warranty if I root the device?
You can allways revert back to gingerbread if needed.
About cm9 and touchwiz. Thats a nono. Cm9 is AOSP and uses trebuchet launcher. Touchwiz is samsung own launcher that comes on top of samsung based roms.

I am confused. Samsung told me that once upgrade to 4.0, I cannot go back to GB. Could you please clarify? What is AOSP? Is trebuchet better than touchwiz?
There is no way to downgrade to GB with built-in software updater. But you can always flash stock GB rom and revert the device to how it's been before.
AOSP is Android Open Source Project. Basically, CM9 is one of AOSP's iterations. And yes, trebuchet with CM9 is a lot better, smoother and better designed than TouchWiz. Look at CyanogenMod9 videos on youtube.

Excuse me, what does "flash the rom" mean in the Android world?
If I have a Note+ICS pre-installed, I can still downgrade to the stock GB by flashing?

Can I suggest that you get the GB version as it gives the greatest flexibility for rooting and upgrading (as the OTA update is already available).
Can I also suggest that you don't do anything about rooting / flashing until you have read a lot more on this forum. Once you're up to speed, you'll know the risks.

[Q] Noob Question - About Kitkat

Hello guys, sorry to take your time reading this but I really got confused.
I see many posts of people that succcessfully ported Kitkat from Nexus 5 to Nexus 4.
Also, saw people that could install Stock 4.4 Kit kat Rom by flashing binaries and factory images. (And I am too noob for that).
So, my point is, didn't anyone was capable to get stock by flashing binaries and etc and them, turn the rom available for download for everyone?
I think if it was possible, it would reduce A LOT the threads over here.
it is available for download silly.
you have aosp and the factory img. factory img you flash via fastboot, and there are plenty of 4.4 aosp builds that you can flash via your recovery. just because someone flashes the factory img via fastboot onto their phone, does NM ot mean that they can provide to you whats on their phone as a zip. it has to be compiled as a rom for you to flash. spend some of your time going through the dev and original dev forums, find yourself a eom to flash.

You download the deodexed official 4.4 kitkat rom here or check out 4.4 custom roms in the development forum.

I think that I will wait for the OTA, I am too much noob to do those stuffs and devices in Brazil are really expensive to get bricked.
Also, I hear that the stock version for N4 (4.4 kit kat) is apparently waaay too similar to 4.3, does not brings transparent nav bars and notifications or white toogles. Also does not bring google experience of google now. Is that truth?
I was using google launcher for N5 and that would be great if I do not have to select always the launcher... everytime I select "always use this laucher", my device keeps me asking about what launcher would I like to use.

It is true that you don't get transparency on the Nexus 4 with Android 4.4 because it still uses (pretty much) the same launcher as for Android 4.3. You can, however, install the GEL as a replacement launcher and make it your default launcher. That will enable transparency and the full GEL experience with Google Now as the far left panel. You can find the instructions here:

Hey, tks for that.
But this will only be enabled (transp. bar and etc) with android 4.4 or android 4.3 as well?
Is there any way to impeach that the stock launcher keeps appearing for me?

The transparency only works with android 4.4. You might be able to get it on android 4.3 using the nova launcher but I haven't tested it so I can't personally guarantee.
You should be able to select the default launcher and the system should keep it like that. Just make sure you press the "Always" button before selecting your option.

Noob Question - Install Android 4.4 on low end tablet
Hi,
I don't know where to post this question as am new to XDA and since my question is obviously a noob one, apologies if I have posted in the wrong one.
I have a low end tablet, Prestigio MultiPad PMP5080B, running Android ICS. I would like to install/update Android 4.4, preferably vanilla (4.4.2 AOSP). How do I go on about doing it. There seem to many a method, can someone point to me a reliable and easy method (with the link to the page if available ).

[Q] Hide apps in drawer is removed after updating to 4.4.2 (KitKat)

I really love the TouchWiz launcher. But i miss to hide my apps in drawer. Is there a way to get 4.3 launcher to 4.4.2, or a mod that can fix it for me?
I've tried the 4.3 launcher with 4.4.2 but it gives FC
yep. that was what I first noticed with the update. try putting them into folders.
cheers ~
This really isn't good enough! WTF is Samsung thinking? There should be no reason for removing this functionality? It seems to also be something built within the firmware; it is not launcher related in otherwords, I found this out because when I was running Android 4.3 I had flashed an update to run the S5 launcher and icons theme. When I did this I was still able to hit the menu button and select apps that I wanted to hide. Since upgrading to Kitkat I noticed as you did that I was no longer able to do this, that was ok I just thought to myself "No problem I will just flash the launcher upgrade and theme for S5 on my S3 as I did before and that should allow me to unlock this functionality" NOT CAN DO! Both the stock Kitkat launcher and the S5 theme upgrade do not unlock this functionality unfortunately Someone is going to have to find out where the issue lies and try to port it back? If I find the answer I will make sure I post back here with a fix.

Download the s5 launcher from one of our threads. Flash it. And you have the hidr feature again.
Or just install a 3rd part touchwiz launcher themed app..you have that function
Mi launcher..nova..apex..go...any if these launchers do provide this function
Press Thanks if I helped

[Q] Question about installing stock android apps

I'm running 4.4.2 on a rooted Note 3.
I was wondering... if I downloaded stock android apps like... dialer/contacts, camera, gallery, clock... can I just freeze the stock Samsung ones via Titanium Backup and use the stock android ones as default? Would that work normally? Anything I should take into consideration?
Thanks =)

I don't think simple like that .
especially if you take it from other device. And even same device, if you take it from AOSP, you can't just simply uninstall old one, and replace new one. you will have FC.
Because samsung apps if a modded to work on TW framework, and the AOSP apps some need modification first to be able to work on TW framework.
I could be wrong
Cheers.
