What are the stages where this is at right now? Fully usable? Still Alpha? I currently have a Galaxy S2 and love it, but it is big and I really want ICS. Is ICS helping with battery life at all? What are people experiencing performance/battery wise? Things like data speeds? Is image quality any better on the device?
Thanks!
Another ICS thread? Ever thought about joining one of the other 10 threads on this subject and actually read what others have been already saying about it.

The ICS dev threads have hundreds, if not thousands of posts. Makes it hard to find information. I don't currently have the phone so it makes it hard for me.
Real simple is to jump to the end of a ics dev thread and read the posts backwards. You will see the most recent info. In short the rom I am running is very smooth, few things need tinkering with to get them working, no 4g but that is expected with a non nexus 4g source. I will also say that after using a ics rom as a daily driver since last weekend the rest of the world who are waiting on ics for their device will not be disappointed when it finally gets there. As far as the battery life goes I have had the best daily usage out of my nexus as ever, true story.

When everyone says 4G, they mean Sprint, right? I have T-Mo so would HSPA+ work?
well there are roms being developed for all variants of the nexus s. But yes I have the nexus s 4g on sprint.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
I'm not sure about hspa+, isn't that just t-mobiles way of saying 4g? Like lte and wimax? If so then I doubt the ability to connect to it works without the official sources being released by google yet.

Answer
Excuse all the thread police. Apparently some on here have OCD and treat the threads like their personal panty drawr (nice and neat). But to answer your question: ICS is pretty far along on the device, battery is better than ginger, performance has the potential to be better when source drops (right now it's faster sometimes and slower at others), data speeds are about the same, and image is great. In all, the ports we have are daily drivers for MANY, including myself. Although most of the bugs seem to have been ironed out, I can see there is still a lot of potential. Our DEVS are pretty gangster so we will surely see much more progression.
I agree but keep in mind that Ginger was developed fromour phones CPU. Hummingbird. In which why if runs so fluid. Ics is for the what's ever in the galaxy nexus. No other phone will run ics smoother than the gn as no other phone had ever beaten this on Ginger.
My point is that we need source code so we can make a ron with other elements intwined to the framework. Show me how to sign a Tom and I'll. Dev the crap out of it

I'm using Brainmaster's V2 and it's a daily for sure. I haven't updated because I use A2DP a lot, and the newer versions built off of Koush's rom lose that.

yes most of the roms on ICS for i9020/23 (3G) are lying.
seems like ALL of the 4G Nexus S is working. I found an updated radio image i9020xxki1, but i didn't have the guts to flash it to see if it works.

Besides the signal issues I am pretty satisfied with NS4G. I played with EVO3D and it is a nice phone but it lags terribly.

Thanks for your feedback only thing that was buying my judgement was sprints poor rating on their website but most of those owners don't know about thee phone.... I come mostly from the epic and thats pretty much unbrickable theres odin and tars for the nexus too? And how easy us it to root and put cm7 on it?

anyone? please reply im going to see a nexus tomorrow and i need to know im making the right decision .. i was looking at cyanogenmod website and i dont see a stable build for the nexus s 4g only for the regular nexus s... whats the difference between stable and nightly?
Nexus is good phone, other than radio issue, which doesn't affect everyone. And don't let the CM site fool you, CM7 is stable on the 4g. Only thing still being worked on is 4g toggle in notification power controls.

I've had my nexus a for about 4 reels note and haven't had any problems yet. Its solid. I came from an evo and haven't looked back since. I even like the camera better on the nexus.
I came from the epic as well, there are odin tars for this phone to flash back to stock, allong with shaby penguins one click root methode.....its the same as the epic pretty much. Odin tars are set up a little different, there is no pit file, but there is a bootloader, phone and pda tar that you flash at the same time. One click root isnt really one click unless you modify the script, but it works pretty good.
I think the nexus s is sprint's best phone out right now. Aside from the radio issue which should be resolved with an upcoming patch from google (but sent ota by sprint), its the fastest and snappiest android phone out there.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
You really don't need to use Odin, it is mostly using fastboot and adb. You can use the tar files if you want but if you want to unroot the phone you can just flash the stock img files.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
Easy to unlock the bootloader, easy to root, return to stock, and load whatever kernel or roms out there. Signal seems to be an issue but there is a fix on its way. Also Google Wallet is coming with that. Its a great phone.
Hey all, I have a brand new Mytoich 4g that I just got from a warranty exchange. It is currently rooted with cm on it. I was looking to trade someone for a nexus that's in good condition. The trade would have to be straight across the line no money involved. Hit me up if you are interested.
Not a fair trade. You will have to offer cash along with your mytouch 4g.

Actually the Hummingbird processor is vastly superior to the Snapdragon found in the MyTouch 4G. It has better I/O processing speeds and a much stronger graphics rendering ability. Overall the Nexus has better specs, and the battery life will be superior due to the absence of T-Mobile's gimped HTC Sense.

Not true whatsoever ill out benchmark you on any test you would like to take. Also since you didn't read I'm not using the stock nor would anybody on this site. As for the battery life on a miui rom, the phone can go almost 2 days with the right kernel and moderate use.

You can stop trying to defend your phone dude. I saw your note on CM7 but the fact is not everyone would want to use CM7. As far as benchmarks, those can be inflated easily. The proof is right there when you place the two side by side in a 3D game to see the MT4G choking at about 20-25 FPS while the Nexus S will glide along at 40+ FPS.
Point we're trying to get across to you is that no one is going to do an even trade for it.

Ive ran both phones side by side and the mytouch is superior in every way except screen. It eats the Nexus for breakfast in linpack, not to mention it will run aosp and sense. If it were me, and I had a GSM nexus, Id trade ya in a heartbeat man. My little sisters Mytouch 4g is my favorite phone ive never owned lol.
For those of you reading this and that may be listening to the misinformed, the mytouch has a dual processor which basically means a dedicated gpu. The screen shots I'm posting below are...
First set - the worst and best performances of the gpu
Second set - stock setting and overclocking of the cpu
Third set- what 4g gets you
All of these are done without cheating. If someone is serious about a trade I'd be more than happy to upload a you tube video for proof

I'm with the OP.
The myTouch 4G is a vastly superior device. This is coming from a Nexus S user (previous myTouch 4G user).
I got a superior deal for it (my mint sidekick 4g straight trade for the Nexus S
But I have to say first off that the mytouch gets higher Quadrant scores stock and then obviously devours the nexus s in everything except graphics performance.
In all honesty a straight trade would be a good deal. You'd be gaining a nice device and dev community with a larger variety of ROMs. Also the battery life of the myTouch so far seems to be better than this phone stock.
If I was the OP, post the phone on Craigslist and see what you get. Or if your lucky like me go from mytouch to sidekick 4g then nexus s all straight trades haha.. (don't take your chances. Analyze how the sidekick is doing in your area. It seems to have leverage in mine (Minneapolis) even though its a sucky device. There was a guy doing a straight trade g2x for sidekick. It was crazy.)
Just my 2 cents.

CM7 is super stable and is at a code freeze so only small bug fixes are being made. The website for the Linux kernel source was hacked and until that has been verified no files were harmed no new nightlies can be compiled. Nightly 95 is the latest and is awesome.

Having the correct radio will give you better reception, which will give you a more reliable connection. As a result you may see increased speeds. Keyword is may. You can decrease your ping by setting a local server ip your phone first connects to. Search for lowering pings. For radios, flash using fastboot. Please be sure to read up on radio flashing as a mistake could be catastrophic. Good luck

There's a sense based ROM in development right now, i'm on sprint and tmo has better service but I don't have a complaint right now on this network. The development overall is amazing and as a phone I love it, just talked my brother into buying one he came over from an evo 4g and said he wished he would haves switched a long time ago, and he's someone who is not tech savvy at all.
On the ns4g we have a sense rom how ever its not 100% but it might be soon then I'm sure it will get ported to the regular nexus. I agree with the camera but I love it. There's a thread in the theme section that shows everyone's pics taken with there nexus and they're some really nice pics.
