After that, I tried some benchmarks, and got quite surprised:
Browsermark:
Sunspider 0.9.1:
This device definetely has to work harder than galaxy S2 because of the increased screen resolution but it is great seeing samsung taking care of the product this fast and succesfully.
Thank You, Samsung!!
PS: My device is the german version sold through Amazon.de
Wow... Just ran the sunspider test and got 3028...
That's quite a big improvement...
What version of android is XXKK9?
Is it 2.3.6?
I updated my Polish one from Handtec to XXKK9 last night after changing my region code but boy was it a pain the first time around. I had it hooked up to an older Windows XP 32-bit machine because I'm currently on an iMac and for whatever reason Kies failed halfway through the firmware upgrade and bricked my Note.
After three attempts I finally got the emergency recovery in Kies to work this morning and the Note upgraded to the latest 2.3.6 firmware. I haven't had a chance to test out the performance much yet but I'm just glad I got it working again because for a while I thought I had a new paper weight because all I was seeing when I powered it on was the smartphone->exclamation point->computer symbol telling me the firmware upgrade had failed and to put the device in recovery mode.
Also such a big improvement in Browsermark since 2.3.6, i am impressed. And battery life too.
Great battery KK9 ???
I tried it today and replaced it becaufe the battery is much much less than kj4.
I have intalled KKA this evening and test the battery tomorrow.
If it's not good, I return on KJ4 !!!
I don't understand how you guys are getting such high scores compared to mine
I'm using KK9 but only get around 2500 in sunspider and 80,000 in browsermark.

Well, your numbers aren't bad either.
I guess you are running the benchmarks without too much going on in the background, like not having more browser windows opened, not too many processes running and those kinds of details...
And about the battery, well, if you are actually using the device, we can make the battery drain quite fast, like on any other smartphone.
But I can say I have been surfing the web and playing videos (stored on the phone) for more than five hours without the battery dying on me.
Yes, XXKK9 is android 2.3.6.
Yes I'm getting great battery life.

It looks like our high scores are equal/better than galaxy nexus. Maybe nexus cpu is slightly worse, but despite ICS, it cannot beat our giant note
Anandtech trying ICS on Galaxy Nexus
Also, in this upgrade it seems noise cancelation during phone calls is set to disabled by default.
I do not understand how this noise cancelation works so poorly...

With the data and phone function on (airplane off) In 12 hours even if you don't touch it, the phone is gonna drain at least as much.

Ok, so there was a lot of discussion in Z's FreeX10 thread regarding whether it improved/worsened battery life, so I am running a little experiment. With the aid of Juiceplotter I ran for a few days on FreeX10b4, and then on the stock(ish) Rooted JIT 2.1.A.0.435 found here.

Beta 4 Over 24 Hours
Beta 4 Zoomed in on a period of use
Stock .435 over 24 Hours
Stock .435 zoomed in on a period of use (not the same day as the first image)
Typical use is just web browsing, not games or videos. It certainly looks a little steeper on the Beta4 graph.
Tomorrow I'll flash to the previous baseband and repeat for beta3 vs. Stock. If anyone knows how to make the pictures smaller I'd be grateful... I know how to do it in HTML but I've never posted anything in PHP before!
26/02/2011 Ok, after much delay I'm now running .49 baseband, flashed using Zhidhu's pre-rooted 2.0.2.A.24 found here. As some in the comments have noted, results seem to vary wildly w.r.t. battery life, which is why I thought I'd run tests on them all using the same handset and the same usage (i.e. mine) which should eliminate most variables.
Mine is the best it's ever been personally... Seems like results are extremely varied.
I get a vary of result for example today it has used 49% of the battery in 4 hours o.0

I think there may be a bit of a battery or power glitch. My phone has stopped charging a couple of times, once at 74%, the other at 92%, and the battery has got quite hot. A swift reboot sorted it.
Generally, I think FreeX10 may be a bit heavier on the battery, but it's really hard to tell because it's so much nicer to use compared to the stock ROM that I think I'm using the phone lots more than I was :-D

I had some woeful battery time with Freex10Beta3, but then yesterday it was fantastic - sure, I wouldn't get 3 days out of it, but I could have pushed 1.5 easily...
Trouble with battery life is that it isn't an exact science (should be), but it seems you can change nothing, and have some drastic improvements. Or hardly touch the phone one day and it's dead in no time.
My X10 since new always drains my battery in one day, it's not a hardware problem, since i got a replacement, and then a battery replacement, i wish we could improve the batttery life a little more
i'm on BETA4
I'm not gonna say my battery life has been amazing lasting for weeks or anything but ive had no problem with it. I mean it lasts more than a day or maybe more than two with relatively light usage. And if I'm constantly on it I can drain it in 8hrs but I never drain it completely. And I've seen consistent life over the roms I've used as long as the flash was good which sometimes takes a couple times. My mom has one and she uses it only sparingly and it lasts over a week so in reality for having a computer in your pocket the life is not that bad. Besides do you really need to update your twitter status every 6 minutes??
Sent from my Delorean using a flux capacitor!
Nice Idea.
Personally I found that the battery life on Beta 2 was better than Beat 3 and 4.
Is is possibile to add it to your test?
Also the only only diffrence between Beta 3 and Beta 4 is the Baseband...
That's really what I'm testing... however I haven't had time to flash back to the old baseband yet. Real life tends to interfere...

I've had a couple of times, since using b4 a weird thing where I plug it in and it drains really fast down to zero while charging. Rebooting seems to fix it though.
If it happens on b3 or stock 2.0.2.A.0.24 I'll know it's a fault with the handset and not a software issue.

This is from a normal usage of my phone. As you can see from the graph the last few hours were me connected to wi-fi constantly, tweeting, fiddling and browsing forums. Yes a quick drain but this is a phone!
My point of this post is compare this to tablets and netbooks. The majority last 6 hours, tops. The SGS II is a dual core, amoled phone. It was always going to be a beast on the battery. However if you use it wisely, ie only have Wi-Fi on when necessary, the phone lasts as this phone should.
It out performs most tablets and for the relative size of both screen and battery I would say that's hugely impressive.
Looking forward to your comments.

Your post is refreshing because of the following:
1) Clearly shows the display is the biggest drainer of battery. Anything else means you simply didn't setup your phone right or have some rogue app chewing stuff up.
2) You're not going bonkers with "OMFG my phone only lost 0% over 4 hours" and then post a graph that shows the screen was on for 2 seconds. Uh, well... duh! Completely stupid and pointless, glad your graph actually reflects real usage and battery drain.

now im gonna say this,
you people really shouldnt compare battery time like tht. Its the screen on time you should compare!! its far more accurate than this. i can get around 3h of constat use and connected to wifi. this is screen on time.
what's average screen time in hours for most users? i've been reading about 4 hours plus or minus 1. 8 hours is unreasonable on one charge? i like to read books so i am wondering about this. i highly anticipate this phone but the n9 kind of looks hot too if the rumor is true alien dalvik allows android apps on meego.
So what? You kinda never used your phone. Surf the internet connected via 3g and come back to tell me
So you use your phone less than my grandma and hardly get two days out of the battery?
Great, that's nothing to be proud of.
With this usage my Omnia7 lasted for a week but the SGSII drains harder than my kitchen sink.
I noticed light consumes unusually lot of power too .. I recommend not using it as torch. White screen works just as fine for me (in total darkness). It seems they put in even stronger LED then in previous models .. and it better be used just for the moment as photographic flash. Battery voltage drops significantly .. and it slowly returns after the LED is turned off .. which means it's really strained a lot.
I bet i can get 2 days of battery in the way you used your phone. Screen was rarely on, so you just showed us that you can get a day and a half of stand-by.
At the risk of being accused of grandma phone usage im actually fairly happy.. The wifi sharing thing is a ***** so axed that.

1. Buy / prepare more battery. three batteries for 6 hours, means for 12 hours you will need 6 batteries.
2. Buy $15 phone at walmart as suggested by alewis2k12, so you will have spare phone if the note goes dead. :victory:
3. Try other ROM + Kernel, to find the most suitable to your device.
I have everything updating at minimum times and BT.GPS Wifi and data on all the time and don't go through a battery in a waking day. I went through one and a half on a flight from SC to LA Using the phone the whole way for internet access and a movie.
Im thinking the OP needs to switch ROMS or buy a Nokia 6126 which lasts about a week

No..all Samsung batteries.
Screen was biggest user....and brightness was set at 20%.
Governor was 'powersaver'!
Data usage/battery drain is huge at events like that where tower usage is saturated and your taking pictures and sending etc.
I knew that...but this drain was unreal.
Granted, its an exaggerated example of how poor battery life is on this device...but a viable example nonetheless.
The Note's battery life sucks.
The Nexus 7....bigger screen, also rooted with same custom Rom puts it to shame.
Wise up to it Sammy.
good point, however powersavor governator is not a powersaver lol, but as you mentioned not main cause.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
1. Not Samsung's fault. You're on a ROM that Samsung cannot be held directly responsible for.
2. Nexus 7 is a Device with a different spec, for valid Comparison use another GT-N7000.
3. Go Stock and Report Again - Use the Original Battery.
If you're building case remember to make sure you're under Samsung's Terms of usage. I hope you all remember about the phone that blew up and user brought it up to the media's attention, and later on it was discovered that it was the user's fault (As he was trying to heat a soaked phone from an Oven).
If you're looking for help or assistance, Then I suggest you take it to the Paranoid Android Thread. I'm sure, there are users besides the General Audience that can help you out or users that may share the same issue that you have faced.
Just my N7000 cents.
Well, tablets have considerably larger batteries than smartphones, so that's not really fair.
Also, It's probably safe to assume you aren't running the same apps on either, so apps could easily be blamed.
Instagram, for example, has been known to be a battery drainer unless killed.
As others posted, I also get all day, in general, using PA - although you didn't post which version.
If you have screen display set that low, and your screen time is still the largest (what % is that, by the way? largest could still be just say, '30%'),
then I'd put your batteries under suspect. Some of the knockoffs have very little charge, regardless of what they advertise.

Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
nexus 7 doesn't have 3g, turn airplane mode on the note, and battery life will double as well. Also, if you're on paranoid 0.5 and not jb, try AniDroid 0.8 kernel, you'd be surprised how your battery life improves
yeah.
I think you should bring up this issue on the Paranoid Android forums.
They sure can help you regarding this battery life issue, especially the developer, coz he will know the tweaks and changes he made on his ROM.
Rather than you blame on the device, which at the end, sammie won't held any responsible for using a custom ROM.
It has been observed that the MediaScanner is taking most of the battery in ParanoidAndroid Roms. Try stopping that.
Also you can replace the kernel and use Asylum insanity kernel to get better battery life.
Just wondering if anyone has tried running their One M8 in High Performance Mode 24/7. I noticed that cores are still disabled and clocked down when not in use while High Performance Mode is enabled, so I don't think it will use as much battery as everyone thinks. The governor just seems to be more aggressive at clocking up under load. I'm guessing 30 minutes to an hour less screen on time. I enjoy the smoother scrolling in some apps that it provides, so I'm going to try keeping it on and see how my battery life is.
Thoughts? Anyone attempted this before?
Unless you don't play any games or benchmark the phone you shouldn't really get some benefits of that...also questions should be placed in Q&A !
This mode is just meant to be used for games and benchmarks
But I do see the benefits of it without playing games or running benchmarks... Scrolling in some apps is noticeably smoother.
And I was hoping for more of a discussion, not just an answer, as I will post my findings and would like to hear the thoughts and findings of others.

All around the web I have seen people advising not to use High Performance Mode for anything but benchmarks because it uses a lot of battery, but it looks like those statements are all completely false. It uses a little more battery, but not a lot more, and it's certainly feasable to leave High Performance Mode enabled all the time. I still got great battery life.
On to the results. Nearly 17 hours on battery, with 7 hours of screen on time. More setup details below.
-Completely stock Sense 6, 4.4.3 (2.22.1540.3). No root, no custom kernel.
-Google Now enabled
-"Ok Google" from any screen enabled
-Blinkfeed enabled (with FB, Twitter, G+, and Insta as sources)
-GPS, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi always on
-Pebble smartwatch connected
-Auto brightness set to 50%
-Spent most of the day on Wi-Fi, except for when I went out for about an hour
I used my phone a lot more than I would in a typical day to deplete the battery and get some results, so it will definitely last me more than a full day in High Performance Mode with my normal usage.
Interesting. Going to try this myself. I'm not a HEAVY user, so I'll leave it always on for now and see how it affects battery.

I'm pretty sure fast for you is slow for everyone else considering you're like the battery whisperer or something with your 10 hour screen on times.
Just want to show my T-mobile M9 and see if others get the similar scores on the following:

A bit low if you ask me. If you can get a replacement, I would replace it. I don't have lag issues even on many apps and games. Sense UI smoothness is superb and even Chrome is smooth unless the websites are loading while scrolling, but even then it's still far smoother than any non-HTC one phone I've used.
Your getting throttled my friend, take phone off charger for a few minutes, let the phone idle then retry, that score is definitely throttled

Be aware that the cpu gets underclocked when it gets hot so best checking when its cold.

maybe its the .30 in the firmware ? i got .15
maybe 30 is faster ?
No that's not how it works, the scores are dependent on temp, the colder the device the better the benchmark
---------- Post added at 02:07 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:07 AM ----------
The difference is in the thermal throttling
but i never reach nearly 60.000
when mine is cold i get max 53.500 :/
thats strange
Honestly,I think it just for fun~
As for me,just use it to play music vedio, make phone call, facebook, twitter.I hardly play game in my phone because I think the screen is too small.

Yeah indeed, that score is kinda high.
Highest i got was 56037: http://our.antutu.net/api/?action=v5&act=benchmark&id=28390950
With LeeDroid rom and SkyDragon kernel 1.0.3
What's the deal & issue with pointless benchmarks.
You all get in such a twist over them.
I had my note 4 first ever test (out of curiosity) scored in the 20,000 range can't remember specifics, immediately after it was 52 ish thousand, now that's a big difference, same conditions for both tests.
This is why I see them as utterly pointless and give no accurate readings what so ever.

Them being pointless is just your opinion, but nobody here claimed the readings are accurate.. They just give us an approximate indication as in comparison against other phones/roms/kernels.

The can't even be estimates or a guide, how can my note 4 score in the 20's and then in the 50's just seconds after,
But yeh if you all want to use these as guides then who am I to say you can't

So because YOU had one bad instance of a HUGE difference, suddenly EVERY benchmark is bad and useless and we should just ditch them all?!
I get it that you don't think benchmarks are useful especially in reflecting real world usage i would agree with you. But the reason you state there is just..........

It's not just a one off, this happened repeatedly over many devices, that is why I now just ignore them.
Sorry if my posts offends your strong stance that's not my intention, nor is it to rile a reaction.
Perhaps my statements are direct and my sincere apologies.
But it is yes just of my opinion that I won't even use them as a guide because of such in accurate results over as stated many devices.
