This is from a normal usage of my phone. As you can see from the graph the last few hours were me connected to wi-fi constantly, tweeting, fiddling and browsing forums. Yes a quick drain but this is a phone!
My point of this post is compare this to tablets and netbooks. The majority last 6 hours, tops. The SGS II is a dual core, amoled phone. It was always going to be a beast on the battery. However if you use it wisely, ie only have Wi-Fi on when necessary, the phone lasts as this phone should.
It out performs most tablets and for the relative size of both screen and battery I would say that's hugely impressive.
Looking forward to your comments.

Your post is refreshing because of the following:
1) Clearly shows the display is the biggest drainer of battery. Anything else means you simply didn't setup your phone right or have some rogue app chewing stuff up.
2) You're not going bonkers with "OMFG my phone only lost 0% over 4 hours" and then post a graph that shows the screen was on for 2 seconds. Uh, well... duh! Completely stupid and pointless, glad your graph actually reflects real usage and battery drain.

My Android OS has never gone past 10%
Getting around 16-17 hours with heavy-ish use, not bad imo

You're right. We wouldn't want to take away from the banding on the left side of the display, Wi-Fi issues, and the camera pink spot.

KE7

If you use kf2 you can get rid of the wifi sharing and save 15% battery.

now im gonna say this,
you people really shouldnt compare battery time like tht. Its the screen on time you should compare!! its far more accurate than this. i can get around 3h of constat use and connected to wifi. this is screen on time.
what's average screen time in hours for most users? i've been reading about 4 hours plus or minus 1. 8 hours is unreasonable on one charge? i like to read books so i am wondering about this. i highly anticipate this phone but the n9 kind of looks hot too if the rumor is true alien dalvik allows android apps on meego.
So what? You kinda never used your phone. Surf the internet connected via 3g and come back to tell me
So you use your phone less than my grandma and hardly get two days out of the battery?
Great, that's nothing to be proud of.
With this usage my Omnia7 lasted for a week but the SGSII drains harder than my kitchen sink.
I noticed light consumes unusually lot of power too .. I recommend not using it as torch. White screen works just as fine for me (in total darkness). It seems they put in even stronger LED then in previous models .. and it better be used just for the moment as photographic flash. Battery voltage drops significantly .. and it slowly returns after the LED is turned off .. which means it's really strained a lot.
I bet i can get 2 days of battery in the way you used your phone. Screen was rarely on, so you just showed us that you can get a day and a half of stand-by.
At the risk of being accused of grandma phone usage im actually fairly happy.. The wifi sharing thing is a ***** so axed that.
This is with stock but rooted ke7

I'm getting pretty good battery life aswell with stock kf2. The only thing I did is deleting some of he crappy samsung apps and froze wifi sharing. I get about 2 days of battery with normal use. And yes i do use the phone in these 2 days.

Well it seems I may have a problem here as my battery is being destroyed by my display. The usage on the pic is nothing compared to some crazy results I've seen. Heck I've seen 94% of my battery being used by my display. Is there a way to fix this?

If you search the threads (hint: use search), you'll see why it's a good thing.
To paraphrase and give you the TL;DR version:
Better the display taking up the battery than the 3G radio...

On any phone, the display is going to be the biggest source of power drain no matter what. This is why when a new display technology emerges, the developer always talks about the power saving ability of said technology.
Also, you need to understand that it is not 62% used, it is 62% of what IS USED. So if you used 30% of battery power then .30 * .62 = 18% of overall battery life is used to power the screen. It makes sense because no matter what you do, most likely your screen is going to be on, especially if you are reading xda.

OK. Thanks its just freaking me out. Sometimes ill leave the screen off and ill check battery usage and its like in the 90's so I'm like wtf I haven't used my phone. And I just got on xda too see if I can get a fix for this.

I just tried to find the thread but couldn't (thought I had it "subscribed to").
So essentially, the fact that you've got a 4" screen as the primary drain on the battery shouldn't be that surprising. It actually speaks to the efficiency of the device. In other phones, either the phone idle state or the cell standby state would be the biggest suckers of battery life, which is a bad thing as it's polling the towers too often which drains battery quicker.
There are a few tips in the forums to save battery life like auto-dim, use wifi instead of 3G (not sure if this one), use a black background, etc... But I do think that PaiPiePia did a great job at explaining it =)
As posted above it's not as bad as it looks but you can do something. Run jac's uv/oc w/color fix. It allows you to drop your brightness even lower. This works well for me as most of my use is indoors. Plus the kernel being under volted obviously helps.
Exactly if you have things that are using more power than your screen then you have problems.
as others have said, it's indeed percentage of USED battery. And display should always be using the most - unless you hardly ever use your phone.

Nope, that would do it. 2-3 hours would eat up close to 50% of your battery. I make maybe 20 minutes of calls a day at most, so display takes up anywhere from 50% to 75% of total drain.

Man, you even use ya phone?
What is with this obsession of battery life goin on 'round here? I say, as long as you can get better battery life than a stock rom, you've won. Keeping the phone on for a day or two without charging seems like a good idea, but everyday isn't the same, and one day you may need to use it way more than any other day..if you start that day off with only 30% just because you wanted to see how long your battery would last, then you really gotta limit how often you use your phone just so that it can make it till the next time your around a charger.

Barely used phone. Come on.
Display 4%? Is that possible?
I can go a full day and a half, 36 hours, without a charge and I am using the original sense android... and I use my phone normally, I text, read usatoday, tmz, check email a few times, use the xda app... and I have wifi on all the time! What's this beef with battery life on these forums? Mine lasts forever! I just have things update manually, I don't let anything run without my permission.
I do, however, turn my phone off the 6 hours I am sleeping.
wifi is on = low battery usage, atleast in my experience.
Indeed. I got 1 day and 19 hours on stock nonrooted 2.2 back. and i used it for some medium texting. and some gps applications...maybe 2-3 hours max awake time. i dont think you used it much...the excessive 3G usage from FB doesnt mean anything.

According to mine, it's 122 min of screen on usage.
I had this scenario on my phone running myn's rls2 + king cfs #11 yesterday:
since unplugged - 24 hours
display on - 1 hour 25 minutes
charge remaining - 50%.
so i wanted to find out how long the battery would last on standby, and to my surprise.. it turned out to be nearly 58 hrs!!! that was on stock sense rom. non-rooted. and of course with very very minimal use. i basically just left the phone alone on my desk or in my pocket all day.
here is the screenshot i took back in july:
but that kind of battery life is unrealistic with normal usage. I am a moderate user (on the higher side), and i typically put my evo on charge everyday in the morning when i get to work (on weekdays). so, the charge on my phone lasts about 25 hrs with normal usage, that usually means about 4-5hrs of Awake Time. this is after rooting the phone. and i am using a stock rooted sense rom. i have had similar results before rooting the phone as well.
on weekends, i find myself charging the phone about 3 times (over 2 days), as the usage of the phone goes very very high.
i have a charger on my desk at work for the weekday charging, and a charger in my car for the weekends.
i have recently installed setCPU, and havent really seen that making too much of a difference, but that perhaps has to do with my usage pattern.
as pointed out in many a threads, signal strength is one major factor when it comes to battery drain. i live in Atlanta and i have great Sprint coverage where I am located, and that makes a world of difference.

it would help if you indicate the battery life that you were getting on stock or any other rom you were using prior to this. because there are so many variables that come into play as far as battery life is concerned. so that will help put your claim into some perspective

I installed OMGB-6 when it was released. Then flashed invisiblek #21 kernel and the new market. Since I last charged it, I've talked on it for about an hour, used the web-browser (Skyfire) fairly moderately, sent a few emails (Gmail), and spent a total of about an hour of GPS through the application WAZE. I'm left at 22% battery left after about 22 hours of use.
I've been fairly lazy with regards to changing the screen brightness, so it's been on about 50% brightness. I've left sync and gps on during the whole time.
I've been using Watchdog as a smart task manager. I have SetCPU installed, but I haven't used it at all.

Hydra 1.13 overclock kernel, stock ROM, stock battery, auto-brightness. I'm currently at 20% battery after 2.5 days. Light usage over the weekend, but there is an hour and a half of talk time in there and a half hour of reading.
The trick to DI battery life is keeping the data network usage/standby under control. If you're trying to send/receive data with no signal, the phone will burn through its battery in 4 hours and I've used 20% in 15 minutes trying to book a flight on a low signal connection.
Realizing this took me a few months since I live in NYC and as such, go through a lot of signal shadows. Some days my phone would be at 50% battery after 12 hours, other times it'd be dead after 6. I now realize that the short days were caused by sync services trying to run when I was in a shadow. You can diagnose this for yourself by going to the cell standby section of the battery usage. If you're over 10% or so without a signal, you have this problem.
You can handle this manually by holding down the power (on the stock rom) and enabling/disabling mobile network. This is a pain in the ass.
I handle this with some simple Locale rules along with the Mobile Signal and Mobile Data plugins. The first is to shut off the data when there's no signal. The second is to shut off the data at work where I'm usually but not always on a wireless network. The third is to shut down the data during my normal sleep hours and airplane mode if I'm at home.
These easily got me to 36 hours so I grabbed an undervolt kernel, which gets me to 2 days of regular use. Daily I do about 15m of talk, 40m reading news/email on the subway, and another 30 mins browsing/messaging/misc. My monthly data use is ~350MB.
While it is likely true that the OP and others have good battery life under their specific use conditions, battery life in general on smart phones is mediocre to poor at best. I have friends with various different models of smartphone (including iphone) and across the board battery life is not good. The exception is blackberry, but I don't consider those competitive from a tech and feature standpoint. Obviously different people are going to have different opinions and experiences based on the various factors that influence battery longevity.
The solution is to stop worrying about it, get a spare or two or three and pop in a new battery when one dies. This imo is one of the best things about the Dinc and Android phones in general. Just my 2c.
Just wondering if anyone has tried running their One M8 in High Performance Mode 24/7. I noticed that cores are still disabled and clocked down when not in use while High Performance Mode is enabled, so I don't think it will use as much battery as everyone thinks. The governor just seems to be more aggressive at clocking up under load. I'm guessing 30 minutes to an hour less screen on time. I enjoy the smoother scrolling in some apps that it provides, so I'm going to try keeping it on and see how my battery life is.
Thoughts? Anyone attempted this before?
Unless you don't play any games or benchmark the phone you shouldn't really get some benefits of that...also questions should be placed in Q&A !
This mode is just meant to be used for games and benchmarks
But I do see the benefits of it without playing games or running benchmarks... Scrolling in some apps is noticeably smoother.
And I was hoping for more of a discussion, not just an answer, as I will post my findings and would like to hear the thoughts and findings of others.
I'm running it today just to check... Normally, I'm getting ->

Note: AVERAGE

Welp, my day of high performance mode is off. Will update tonight with my results.
Early results are looking promising.
7 hours on battery with 3 hours screen on time so far with high performance mode enabled, and only down to 63%.

I can't even get that on normal mode!

Thats great!
If your usage is not heavy, neither mode should matter much.
I checked my processor states, and nearly all the main time, 3 cores were parked, 1 running 300-645MHz.

All around the web I have seen people advising not to use High Performance Mode for anything but benchmarks because it uses a lot of battery, but it looks like those statements are all completely false. It uses a little more battery, but not a lot more, and it's certainly feasable to leave High Performance Mode enabled all the time. I still got great battery life.
On to the results. Nearly 17 hours on battery, with 7 hours of screen on time. More setup details below.
-Completely stock Sense 6, 4.4.3 (2.22.1540.3). No root, no custom kernel.
-Google Now enabled
-"Ok Google" from any screen enabled
-Blinkfeed enabled (with FB, Twitter, G+, and Insta as sources)
-GPS, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi always on
-Pebble smartwatch connected
-Auto brightness set to 50%
-Spent most of the day on Wi-Fi, except for when I went out for about an hour
I used my phone a lot more than I would in a typical day to deplete the battery and get some results, so it will definitely last me more than a full day in High Performance Mode with my normal usage.
Interesting. Going to try this myself. I'm not a HEAVY user, so I'll leave it always on for now and see how it affects battery.
I'm running it right now... Battery is dropping fassst!

I'm pretty sure fast for you is slow for everyone else considering you're like the battery whisperer or something with your 10 hour screen on times.
What do you think???
With not so good cell reception (as he said) and so many wake-locks, I think it's pretty good!

Now lets see how the battery handles while playing Ingress!
I would be very happy with this if it is typical usage!
If I can actually get anywhere near this I will be very Happy.
Not as good as I was hoping, but still reasonable. That's right around what I've been averaging with my Moto X.
Not good at all.
The wake locks are horrible!

I think that is looking decent, with 13% of the battery used being on 'Cell standby' it is clear that reception was not good during the day. On my nexus 5 when cell reception is good Cell standby barely registers on the list. Max of 5% usually. So would we be looking at 6.5 hours screen time if reception is good? Also no indication that battery saving has been used or not (doesn't look like it is, on the screenshots as the notification/nav bar are not orange). Or what screen brightness set.
Who knows. It is all guessing until more reviews are out.

Just what I was thinking

Yes, same with me. On my Nexus 5 with quite good reception the "mobile standby" is less than 5%.
With that in mind, we will have more than this.
And see those wake-locks, horrible.
Probably some apps, services, or accounts need to be properly setup and configured.
More battery life from that.
And for more extreme, we can use darker theme
So, I am OK with this early report, it's a GOOD BASE!

It's a great start. I'm sure we'll have them up to 10 hours SOT with tweaks in no time.
That is mush better then my Note 3... hope I can get this divce sone..
Battery thread = subjective . just leave that there

I'm seeing similar wakelocks on my nexus 5 with the last preview. The one before it had much better battery life, at least for me. I think kitkit has better battery life than lpx19D. so much for improved battery savings in 5.0.

Yeah me too. My N5 was charged fully yesterday morning and it just sat at my house untouched all day, and by the time I went to bed it was at 75%, which is pathetic. That's the last dev preview. On KK, it still would have been at 100%, or at worst 99%. I didn't investigate what was causing it, but that was bone stock without a single app installed. It shouldn't be like that. Hopefully the final version won't have that issue.

im not impressed. my G3 can easily handle 6 hours of screen time. But its tweaked to hell. Im curious to see the N6 with tweaks. also, does anyone know what screen brightness was set to?

This.. Battery usage is going to vary greatly by different users that's why I personally could not care less about anyone's battery usage findings other than my own.

Yes it will but it is also very nice to know about what to expect ... this should get just about the same battery life as the note 4 ...give or take 30 minutes

I left mine (N5) at home yesterday and only lost 5% in approximately 10hrs on the same preview. Battery for me has either been great or horrible hinging on the signal

I agree but some people take these findings to heart and if the battery doesn't live up to their expectations they have an aneurysm.
