Is SG Tab 10.1 getting Ice Cream Sandwich officially? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Has Samsung announced that GS Tab 10.1 getting Ice Cream Sandwich officially?

To make it quick, yes.

Thanks, but can I ask; is it a reliable source?

There has never been an official statement from Samsung about ICS on the GT10. But rest assured we will get it. It will probably come from CyanogenMod as CM9. Watch for that... (no idea when, though. Might be tomorrow and it might be February...).

I posted this statement according to the following source: Click me!
Yeah.. not a really official statement, but it went through the media back then.

Logically there should be an official release. Thanks for replying!

Good news. Still a chance for official ICS for our capable Galaxy Tabs.

Time will tell. If they decide to go ahead with it, they will show millions of customers that they are valued customers, which will ensure in many cases, that people remain loyal to Samsung.

Yeah! I really hope they do!
Then HTC will also have to update their Desire HD/S range with haven't Ben announced for ICS yet...

really glad to hear samsung listen to their customers!
I agree that an official update from Samsung for our gtab would be most welcome. However, by the time any of us see this update (seeing as this obviously wasn't originally on Samsung's radar and the snail like pace with which carriers provide updates) I'm pretty sure that the awesome dev's we have working on CM9 and the ICS team will be able to provide something much sexier, making the update moot for many that follow those threads.
Still though, nice to see that Samsung is considering not throwing year old adopters under the bus (yet!)
Hello,
That could be a great news once confirmed by Samsung.
I'm sure the devs here will make it even better once the first official roms (even an alpha) get leaked. The community has already a "spy" at Samsung, Cyanogenmod founder
Well, they are now talking about a "Value Pack", not a real ICS OS but possibly a new Touchwiz thing with some ICS features

Yes those were initial thoughts, but as confirmed by XDA portal, it will be ICS lite.
Possibly it means ICS without touchwiz.
That would be great!

Sure that' a great news. An official ICS rom even a "lite" one would give a great boost to the devs here finish their full ICS ports.
I can't wait to see that
But that would come when? 3rd to 4th quarter of 2012?!
Im sure samsung will prioritize updating its recent smartphones and tablets, which they will do, as promised, 1st quarter 2012.

They refer to Verizon. What about WiFi-only GT 10.1 devices? ICS this yes? LOL
The Verizon version will have camera drivers which are basically all that is lacking from making CM9 perfect.
I think it´s sad that the mobile providers are this slow pushing new software to their customers. Google already moved on to Jellybean :-/

Has anyone heard anything at all about ICS? Being this is not carrier modified, I can't believe we haven't even seen a leak.. I know for a fact Samsung has the firmware, what they are holding onto it for is beyond me. Unless they are using ICS to market their new tab and want people to buy it just for that..

Considering that they delayed the tab 2 for at least a month and aren't yet shipping this piece of hardware because they couldn't get ics running well on it I would guess they don't have it ready for our device yet. (that's right they said the tab 2 would be out by now! )

The thing that i find to be fail about this hole thing is all the ics roms (i think thats what they are called) on here have everything working except for the camera. SO Samsung take one of these roms that you like. add in the drivers for the camera then push it live PROBLEM SOLVED.
It would be great is someone from Samsung would leak these drivers. We know you're out there and it is your morale obligation to help your customer.

[Poll}Android JB 4.1 for the Note, Possible for the Note

Hello! I thought I'd start this thread just to see what you guys think about the current devices getting 4.1.
It doesn't look like Samsung have been pushing ICS too hard after its initial update. Could it be possible that they're working on 4.1? It looks like hardware isn't an issue .
4.1 will come right with the note 2. And maybe with enough outcry of the comunity we will get it too but defenetly after the note 2 release. Thats how it's been in the past....
Tweets from SamMobile:
- Android 4.1 for Galaxy SIII #sgs3 Q3 2012.
- No information about Android 4.1 for SII and Note yet. Both devices will see Android 4.0.4.
-----------------
When you talk about the Note, they need to solve brick bug problems and then maybe think about the latest version of Android. If you look when the ICS update arrived, I wouldn't expect Jelly Bean soon. Even if it comes, it will be crippled by the Touch Wiz.
I guess that CM9 will pack all those goodies from JB 4.1.
Even if it doesn't get an official 4.1, the note will almost guaranteed get cm10. Nice they are at least giving us 4.0.4 though.

Don't want samsung to give us the Jelly beans. I am sure our developers like CM will surely get us one asap. Awaiting for the next release of CM10

That will be CM9.1 not 10. Android 5 will be CM10.
But yeah, i don't care if we'll get it official from Samsung or not. As long as our developers get it running on the Note, i'm all good.
Upgrade life cycle for Samsung is usually 18 months. The note was released in November 2011.
Jelly bean is being released to developers and operators in mid july, with first handsets and tablet (asus nexus 7) for release around October/November.
I reckon we'll get it as our final update. Pretty certain galaxy s2 is nearing the end of its update cycle around now.

More than possible in my opinion
Who else updates firmwares as much as samsung?
The note was one of the first device to have ice. Samsung do work.
But i guess haters are just going to complain.

Besides what is the point of complaining on the first day of its release when previous sold nexus phones didnt even get them

EVERY named android update has gotten a +1 CM number. Many of which are .1 updates.
It would be VERY odd if JB was not CM10, and against everything we have seen in the past.
ICS to Jellybean
If the kernel requirements is the same as ICS then Jellybean port should be quick and easy.
Cool! I am keeping up the hope with Samsung. The device has been out for less than a year, I really hope it gets updated officially.

Verizon and Samsung don't give a rip about our device or our distress. Software updates would just allow us keep and be happy with our tab longer. Why for that when you voulf get another 300 to 500 out of us for a new device with Jellybean of Keylime pie or what ever else it will be next year.
