[Q] To Note owners: what's the multitouch like? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Quick question to people who already own the Note.
My current phone is an HTC Desire. I didn't notice until I'd had it for a few months that the multitouch on that device leaves something to be desired; about all it's good for is telling how far apart your fingers are, which for pinch-zoom is fine. But if you want to use -- say for example -- an on-screen joystick, things don't really work so well.
I used an application called MultiTouch Visualizer 2 to prove the problem. If you touch in opposite quadrants of the screen, then slide your fingers to swap to the other two quadrants, most of the time the Desire will say you moved your fingers to the mid-line then back to the original quadrants. That is to say: fingers in top left and bottom right; slide top left finger to bottom left, and bottom right finger to top right; the app now registers your fingers as being in the top left and bottom right.
Does this happen with the Note? And can it recognise more than 2 fingers at a time?

I installed Multitouch Visualizer 2 and got 10 fingers multitouch.
There is no problem moving the fingers around, the hard part was putting 10 fingers on the screen.
Also there is no problem playing games like Shadowgun with the multitouch.

I am having some problems with the screen.
When the charger is plugged in the phone becomes very unresponsive. I have to click multiple times before it registers. The bottom-right area of the screen becomes crippled and cannot detect touch as long as the charger is plugged in. Everthing comes back to normal if i unplug the charger. As far as I know I am not the only one having the problem.

screen not responding to stylus pen

I've got my HTC magic last week and order a stylus pen to use with it. The problem is that the phone only respond to finger tap, and I must be holding it. If it is, for example, on the car support and I tap it with my finger it does not respond to touch. Does anyone else have this problem?
Thank you!
The HTC Magic has a captive touch screen, these types of touchscreens only work to the touch of the finger and hence will not work with a stylus.
I also have this problem, not that with the stylus ( I know it can´t be used with stylus). When laying the phone on a tabele an using with only my fingers the respons is very bad. When holding the phone in my hand it´s perfect.
Anyone knows why???
Instead of tapping the screen try a light press, it does not respond to a tap or quick jab with the finger. Go Here and you can read how the Capacitive Touchscreen works.

Best thing that i've found to do, is make a circuit with the phone:
When its flat or in car holder if you make your thumb touch the bottom of the phone (near the roller ball) then use your finger to do the action required this seems to work!
Don't know why, but it does!
If anyone noticed, if you hold your Magic in one hand and use the other hand to point etc, the sensitivity sort of goes down.
Using the fingers (or rather thumb) of the same hand in which you hold your Magic would produce an insanely much better result!

That's due to the orientation of your fingers. Again, it's due to the capacitive screen. Using your thumb on the same hand that's holding the phone, you have more surface area touching on the screen where as if you "point" with the finger (I'm presuming your index) with the empty hand, the surface area is less. You can do a simple test. Press the screen like you were pointing at it then do the same but this time, press it like you were giving your finger print but not as wide.

Am i the only one with this touch screen problem ?

Sometimes the touch screen is WAY off and only restart is fixing it. Noticed this 2 times already.....
I've noticed this too. I was using the browser, and my screen presses were registering as all sorts of random things (like pressing the middle of the screen would press the zoom button). Restarting the browser seemed to fix it.
Add it to the nexus one issue list.

that's from a lack of multitouch. your hand is probably just barely touching the lower corner of the glass. when you press again in the middle, it registers on the softkeys. it is one of the things I *HATE* about this phone. I always seem to be touching the screen on the very edge. you almost cant use it with just one hand.
I find that I do that with my HTC Magic sometimes as well, the 'webbing' between my thumb and index finger sometimes touches the corner of the screen and brings up the 'app menu' in my left hand, or the 'add widget' menu in my right hand (sense ui). Just another general thing about touch screens and their placement
the four touch buttons arent that accurate. didnt have this problem on the droid. i rarely miss it there but on the nexus is becoming 50/50 chance of it not registering.
Lol how are you guys holding the phone, i always use it one handed and havent expirienced this, i guess everyones different.

This not necessarily a problem with this phone in particular. It is a phenonema that happens on all capacitive touch screens (that do not have multitouch). I work with them all the time (much larger scale) and the slightest touch on a border results in what appear to be calibration issues.
Multi touch takes into account for this, non multitouch does not.
This has happened to me also. Same exact thing, in the browser, the touch was way off, really way off. I was pressing the middle and the zoom button pressed. It was on the table so I know my other hand didn't touch it. It was also vibrating sometimes when I pressed the middle of it. Restarting seems to have fixed it for now.
happened to me in SMS and browser and the only fix was restart the phone.....so its not me accidentally touching the screen in another point.
ps. its so bad that i couldnt even use touch screen to power off the phone. i had to use track ball. (now i know why its there )
I've had this problem as well as other with touch screen. Sometimes I will hit an icon on the main screen and it will jump screens. When I'm in the menu's i hit one of the options and it goes to the one underneath it. I'm CLEARLY hitting the option I want and not the one below so it is infact a hardware problem in my case. I will be in the browser and hit a button and it will exit out of the browser, very annoying! Mine is unlocked but I wrote HTC so lets see what they say.
its a known prob with this phone, ppl are complaining all over Google forum, its very annoying, when it happens it doesn't just happen in the browser, also in text message n home screen ect...

Webbed fingers are gross.
I have now experienced this definitively once. It happened while using the dolphin browser. I wiped the screen off, set it on a table, poked with only one finger, and could not for the life of me get the software keyboard to click on the correct button. Just wouldn't happen. Had to restart the phone to fix it. But it's only happened once since I got the thing on launch day.
^ same thing for me. Does the OTA fix this, I have not received it yet. Wish I saw this before I created a thread, sorry.

i dunno, but touches (especially multitouch) seems ALOT more responsive and accurate than before i did the new update... i used dolphin prior and pinch zooming seemed jittery and like the phone didnt want me to do it... now everything seems smooth as butter!
obviously this is only short term though, but hopefully this fix will also address some of the calibration issues (that i also experienced) that the N1 has been known to have...

Screen Sensitivity.

Something strange while I was using Legend. I notice that if you cover the optical touch pad at the bottom. The screen tends to be more sensitive.
A simple test will be to go into your "people" flick up and down the name list. Do it normally like you do and then try to cover the optical touchpad with 1 finger and then do it again. For me, the screen suddenly becomes more responsive, a very gentle short flick of the fingers will be enough to scroll the name. Once you remove the finger at the bottom, everything is back to "normal". The same sensitive test also works when the phone is plugged into the charger. Wonder if it's just my legend or it's the same with you guys.
Also is it true that when the battery falls to a certain level..the device will go into "power saving mode" by slowing down the processor and reduce screen sensitivity or things like that??
No difference
I tested the sensitivity thing. It's the same regardless of whether I cover the optical pad or not.

Multitouch crosstalk on TF touchpad is TERRIBLE

So I've had the Transformer update for about 20 hours now, which has given me time to play with it. The new circular cursor for the touchpad isn't a good design, but I can now see what they were trying to do, as they also use it to indicate touch and multitouch by filling the center of the circle with a dot for a single touch, and adding a second dot for multitouch. What they need to do is add a crosshair to indicate the exact click zone at the center of the circle.
An interesting side effect of the change, though, is that you can now very easily test crosstalk when using multitouch on the touchpad, and the result is NOT good on my B5O dock. I'd guess this is why many folks are reporting problems with multitouch zooming instead of scrolling or vice versa, etc.
To test: Touch the pad at right center with one finger. Move your other finger up and down the left-hand end of the touchpad without moving the other finger. Notice that not only does the left-hand white dot on the screen move, but the other dot also moves a LOT, when it should be staying still. I find it easiest to do this test in an app that doesn't support pinch zoom / scroll and has a dark background, so your eye isn't distracted by motion. For example, Moboplayer makes it easy to see.
Do the same thing again, but with one finger at top center of the pad, and the other at bottom center. If anything, the result seems even worse, to me. Even placing your fingers as far apart as possible at opposite corners of the pad, movement of one finger affects the other significantly. In some situations, it's actually possible to make the stationary finger's dot move exactly the same distance as the dot for the finger that actually moved.
I'm hoping that this is just a software issue that can be fixed in future firmware, but the logical side of me thinks this is more likely a hardware issue, and quite likely one that explains why they never offered pinch zoom until now, as they've found it tricky to try and work around and filter out the garbage data from the touchpad as much as possible.
I'd be interested to know whether the latest B7O docks show this problem too, or if it is improved at all.

[Q] Phantom touches screen issue

So I've been getting ghost or phantom touches on my phone for the past few weeks. I couldn't figure out what was causing it because I've never dropped my phone and it never got wet. The phantom touches only appears down the right side of the screen in almost a straight line. It doesn't happen all the time and I thought it was random but I got it to occur at a successful rate. If I press down on the top left corner of the screen, it would cause the phantom touches. When I press and hold down the top left corner of the phone, everything is fine and no phantom touches appear. I decided to tighten the screws on the top left and it seems to have made it a little better. I'd have to really tap on the top left of the screen to make the phantom touches appear again and it doesn't occur at a 100% rate but it's still occurs.
Anyone know what is causing this? I thought it would be a broken digitizer but it doesn't make sense that tightening the screws would cause the issue to almost fix itself. Problem with the geomangnet? I'm not sure what that does really.

Put 2 (or more) fingers on the screen of your Note 3 in a horizontal line in landscape mode. You can also use Portrait mode with 2 fingers.
Move the fingers slightly about, trying to have both (all) in a straight horizontal line.
After only a bit of trying one (or more) detected fingers should disappear (become undetected) or ghost touch detections should appear.

Thank you for the help and suggestion but I've already tried this. My touch screen is fine in terms of detection. I can put 10 fingers on the screen and it would recognize all 10 fingers. My issue has something to do with the top left corner of the screen affecting the right side of the screen. Like something is loose. When I clamp down on the left corner of the phone, everything works fine. No ghost touches (that sounds dirty) or any of the sort. When I let go of the top left corner, I will some times get ghost touches.

It's not a firmware issue. It's definitely a hardware issue since it starts tapping on buttons inside TWRP recovery. Ah well, I tighten the screws even more and it looks like the phantom touches are gone. Hopefully it stays that way even though I destroyed a screw in the process. Those tiny things are fragile.
if the touch ghost click is in some certain location most because of pollution (mainly chemical), best is use ISO alcohol also use a very tinny sharp blade, like a very thin one and slightly go along side the place that does this, sometimes you have to try both horizontal and vertical, then clean with ISO, do a few times it does alright. it does work on most of touch screen include note 3 as well. I've been in IT and fixing all electronic for last 30 years in New Zealand. if you had problem text me on 021 548484
