Arc won't boot - Xperia Arc General

I flashed my Arc to UK generic firmware 4.0.A using flashtool.
All went well.
Then I after a using it normally for a while I did a full reset of the phone to remove all personal info and return it to factory state.
I then put the phone away for a few months.
When I then took it out again, it will not boot.
I charged it over night and when I press and hold the power button, the LED beside the USB connector flashes green quickly and that's all the happens. The screen does not come on and it does not vibrate as normally on start up.
No combination of button presses seems to make any difference.
I can connect it to the PC in flash mode, but again, the screen does not come on. Flashtool (0.5) does detect it in flash mode, but it says that it cannot flash the device and says to disconnect it, turn it on and set USB debugging mode. But obviously I can't do that because it won't boot.
Fastboot does not detect the device connected at all.
I am stumped!

Thanks mate, but there are a few threads about unbricking, which one do you mean?
Is it this one?

Yes, that is the one!
Looks like it's booting now.

[Q] phone to pc screen :(

dont kno if im posting this in the correct section or not but can some one plz help? i was trying to flash the stock files for my samsung vibrant with odin, but it froze so i unplugged and tried to reboot my phone but the phone to pc screen came up. ive tried holding the volume buttons + power to get back to download mode, but it just reboots and goes back to it, can anybody help?
Did you hold the power button down till it disappears and then release the power button immediately as it disappears?
hadnt tryin releasing the power button right away but i just tried and still no luck
Johnz is right. To make sure, unplug & plug back in the usb cable, then hold down the volume keys & power, wait till the screen flashes to black, then release power.
Unplug and pull the battery.
Install battery.
While holding both volume buttons, plug in usb cable.
Have odin ready to go, it seems to help. The phone should power up directly to download mode, once odin sees it, hit start.
i dont get what im doing wrong because ive tried what u guys said but after the screen flashes black when it comes back on its the phone to pc screen. ive also noticed that if i pull the battery while the usb cord is connected the phone stays on at that screen until i remove the usb cord, is that normal?
i just read that if the normal ways dont work that means ur phone is hardware locked. looks like im gonna have to try to send it back to tmobile and hope for the best
Try the above, but also hold the home key. I did the exact same as you, and this enabled me to get back to download mode, so I could Odin.
1) Remove battery, SIM, and sd card.
2) Plug in USB Cable.
3) Hold down Vol +/- as well as home.
4) Press power button for 2 seconds, then release.
This should get you into download mode. Then you can Odin back to whatever you were intending to do.
thanx for all the help guys but nothing seems to be working for me
Just throwing out an update incase anyone was wondering, I got my replacement phone yesterday and it turned out to be hardware locked as well. Tried to flash the fix for it and it failed and bricked my phone! So after calling tmobile they will be sending me another replacement and hopefully that one wont be locked as well
I had the same problem trying to get into Download Mode, I got into download mode and using ODIN tried to flash update. The process was stick for 10 min.
So I unplugged USB and got this phone to PC icon. All I had to do to fix it was to go into download mode again by holding both vol +/- keys and pressing power button until screen goes black then release the power button as soon as the screen went black. If you hold the button longer it will go into recovery mode. Then open ODIN again and re-connect USB and ODIN will detect COM port. However you have to make sure that all samsung usb drivers are installed. That is it. Then flash the update and you all set. The phone will reboot and you are back up and runing.

there is another way to this method, that works on any vibrant i've tried it on and also the captivates, had to help a friend restore his yesterday.
remove battery, sd and sim cards
plug in usb cable to pc and phone
hold down the volume buttons only
pop in the battery
if it comes up to the battery charging icon, pull the battery and put it back in again, should go right into download mode.
again, this works on any vibrant i've tried it on, and the captivate as well, good luck.

I think its dead :/

Currently on 10/15 pacman rom.
Flashed mja modem to see if theres a difference
flashed successfully but no improvements, used it for maybe 15 minutes
Decided to go back to mf9 or whatever
Powered down the phone like normal, through the power menu.
Cant turn it back on, cant go into download, no led when plugged into the wall
Computer recognizes device connected/disconnected
Odin does not recognize device
I think its dead....... :/
Ill take suggestions, but morale is low.
EDIT: odin sees it, but I dont think i can enter download mode. If i remove the battary, reinsert it, and plug the usb in ,ODIN sees it right away, but cant flash things. If i hold the power button while connected, after a few seconds the device will reset, dissapear from odin, and reappear
EDIT 2: device manager shows device "QHSUSB_DLOAD"
yeah, i think its dead...

you can only flash an mja modem on top of an mja modem. from what I've read there isn't a way to downgrade mja yet but there should be soon. Try flashing something like TriForce 4.0 and get back to us.
Did you try booting into download mode by holding the power down and home keys at the same time from a powered off setting?

[Q] Weird Brick i9505

Hi everybody!
I'm having a weird problem with my S4 i9505 device, i left it charging on the sofa for about an hour while i went to pick up my son from nursery and when I came back the phone was unresponsive with the LED stuck on blue with a weird kind of glow about it :/ and very hot - front and back.
The lock/power button did nothing, and neither did the home button so I pulled the battery and left it out for 4/5 minutes before putting it back in. I tried turning the phone back on - nothing. the handset gave a short vibrate then six seconds later vibrated again. Nothing on screen, capacitive buttons or LED notification and while in this state does not get recognized by my computer (Win 7 64bit all drivers fine).
I cannot boot the device into download mode (volume down + home key and power).
I cannot boot into TWRP which was installed way before this crash (volume up + home key and power).
If i plug device into wall charger it goes back to the blank screen with blue LED, HOWEVER in this state my computer will recognise it in Odin!
What I've tried doing.
While in this "blue LED state" and it being recognized in Odin i've tried flashing official firmware, official firmware with PIT file, flashing CWM and TWRP.
Everything I do gives me the message that its failed via Odin
My device was previously running I9505_-_Official_Google_Edition_4.4_by_Jamal2367_v4.0 nice clean install done by the book (davlik wiped cache wiped, basically a new handset totally fresh and clean) if thats any help to anyone.
Been racking my brains for the last few days trying to fix it but no luck

Hi there,
When you say its failing in Odin whilst plugged into the charger I assume you are able to put the phone into download mode in order for odin to work correctly?
Have you checked that there is no issue with the battery itself i.e Is it Swollen - HERE

Thanks for the fast reply!
I don't know if it is in download mode - there's nothing to confirm on screen that it is but in Odin message box it says "<ID:0/003>Added!!"
The batter appears fine, I havent got access to another device to check though.

Try pulling the battery again and wait atleast 4 to 5 minutes and put it back , then Hold Power+Volume down in order to reach download mode, if the screen is black while your in Download mode it seems that your phone might be needed to send to repair. but if you can actually see the green android with your screen then reflash the stock rom for your phone.

Odin will recognise the fact that a device has been plugged in even if its not in download mode.
Can you completely turn your phone off and leave it for a couple of minutes?
Leave unplugged from PC - Sort Odin out with firmware and let it check md5 etc
Then put in download mode - Volume down + Power (I know you cannot see screen) till you feel it vibrate and keep hold for about a second. Let go and then volume up............
Plug phone intoPC and let Odin see it again and start Odin:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

Tried this and no luck. Odin will only recognize the device is plugged in if its in the "blue LED state"
If i power up normal, recovery mode or download mode the phone behaves the same way each time - short vibrate then 6 seconds later another short vibrate
I don't understand why Odin would pick it up ONLY when its in this state!? And even when the device shows as being connected it won't do anything at all

Sorry but, how do you get blue LED state? Just powering on the device? I get blue led state when finish charging or a notification enters...
Anyway, consider that odin will recognize the phone even if it is working and operative, not only in download mode, so the fact odin recognizes it doesn't mean you are in download mode. If you try to flash in a different mode than download mode, it will fail. So, you are not able to flash anything even if odin is recognizing the device; only if you are sure you are in download mode will.
Do you see in any moment anything in the screen? Every sympthom you are describing seem as screen doesn't work but all the rest of the device is working fine. Consider it is very difficult to enter in download mode with no control messages on the screen such as samsung logo, and so on... and then entering in download mode by pressing vol up.
Two possibles issues on my opinion:
1) any problem in the software doesn't allow you to see the screen. If so, try very carefully entering in download mode and flash a stock 4.3 (because I am not sure if you still have knox bootloader or not, if so, flashing a 4.2.2 will fail) with Odin 3.09 (be sure you have installed on your PC Kies 3 so that yoi are sure you have last drivers). To be sure you enter in download mode: take off your battery, and put it back; pwr+home+vol down (three buttons) during 3 or 4 seconds; then release fingers and push vol up, then connect the usb cable while odin is launched and see if odin see the phone (if so, flash; if don't, you are not in download mode or you are not able to enter in it, try some times if so).
2) Screen or screen PCB broken -> repairing SAT

If I power up the device without charging cable plugged in i get blank screen single vibrate about 5 seconds after holding power button and no LED.
If i insert usb cable into computer while device is OFF i get blank screen, single vibrate no LED and "my computer" device manager and Odin shows nothing connected
If i insert wall charger while device is OFF i get vibrate then after 6 seconds vibrate again then after 30 seconds or so the blue LED comes on. Now if i remove the phone from the wall charger in this state - still with the blue LED on it shows up in Device manager as Portable Devices - Samsung Mobile MTP device and shows up in Odin.
I haven't got the locked Knox bootloader, I was running 4.4 google play edition at the time of the crash with TWRP custom recovery
Ive tried using Odin 1.85 and Odin 3.04 and nothing works, I will try with 3.09 and report back but I'm not holding my breath.
On a side note I had a similar problem with the Galaxy note n7000 and I fixed that by rewriting the file partitions in CMD, could this work here do you think?
If the device can be found in device manager then I should be able to get into ADB right?
*UPDATE* I followed your instructions above and Odin 3.09 actually got me further than before
This time after checking the MD5 it flashed a stock rom 4.3. the device reset itself and made the tingly loadup noise but still with a blank screen. When I flashed the ROM I also flashed the PIT just in case (opinion on that?)
Now when I charge the device i get a red LED and not long after it turns green. Is that safe to assume that my battery is now fully charged?
Now I'm leaning more towards a hardware failure and my screen has gone I've never had a problem with the screen at all so I find this very strange that the screen could have died? Also I've taken the phone apart checked all ribbon connectors were in place and everything is fine, I didnt notice anything untoward with the screen (don't know what i was meant to be looking for mind! fire damage?! black soot?! blown out cables?! Not a clue?!)
But at least I'm running stock which should make trouble shooting a bit easier.

Blue led could be because you have the battery full charged.
Adb only if you have USB debugging mode checked.
Odin 3.09 was created for i9505 specifically, you must obligatory use this version to flash roms, otherwise you can get impredecible results.
As i said before, even Odin recognizes your phone, if you are not in download mode, it will fail, so it is critical to be sure you are in download mode, you must forget blue led state and so on and concentrate to be sure you are entering in download mode: unplug all charging and data cables, be sure you have the phone off (you can only be sure of this by taking off the battery and putting it back again), three keys combination for 3-4 seconds, volume up key, plug in the data cable and check on pc if Odin 3.09 recognizes it, if so, flash the stock official ROM you consider.

Cannot boot even into download mode after changing Fast Dormancy setting

Hi,
I thought I could enter the Hidden Menu and change the Fast Dormancy setting into disabled, so I did it and wanted to reboot my phone. The phone turned off, and was doing its boot up procedure, while it started behaving abnormally. The LG logo popped up for about 5 seconds (so it didn't leave the bootloader), turned off for 10 seconds and then again the whole process repeated. I thought that was a bootloop, so I turned it off, entered Factory Reset menu, chose appropriate options and waited for the reset, but the phone didn't perform the action. Then I tried to get into download mode, but to no avail - the phone kept going with bootloop. I'm still struggling to do this; the only menu I could get into was the Factory Reset one.
Could anyone help me get my phone back into function?
D802, 20G stock
Thanks in advance!
That's weird. I always disable fast dormancy after a reset or a new rom flash and I've never had any issues.
What comes instead of download mode? If nothing, Are you sure you're doing it correctly?
Press and hold the power button for 10-15 seconds.
Plug the phone into the cable, then press and hold volume up and plug the cable into the computer. That should trigger download mode.
Thank you for your help.
I know that's weird, I've entered Download mode numerous times using the combination that you provided and can't do it this time. The strangest thing actually is that the factory reset menu does show up (though it does nothing), while Download mode does not - it seems to be actually unaffected by using the combination and is still stuck in a bootloop. I have no idea what steps should I take in order to recover my phone.
I forgot to mention that the phone wasn't even rooted then, which makes it even more mysterious...
Ouch! Well what comes up when you enter download mode? Fastboot? Black screen?
If you're still covered by warranty take it for a replacement. I doubt fast dormancy alone has messed up your device. If it truly has, then try booting the phone without a sim card.
Normally when I insert the USB cable with vol up button pressed, the LG logo shows up, then the notification of Download mode and finally the Software Update screen. But this time, only the LG logo shows for about 5 seconds, as if I normally booted it using Power button and does not get me into neither Download nor Fastboot mode.
Well, I took a look at other options in this hidden menu, but still, could it brick that hard even then?
I doubt whether I'm still eligible for a replacement, as the device had been rooted already (though it's not at the moment). The whole process also takes quite a lot of time, which is why I wanted to avoid it. Is there any method to bring it back to life?
I wanted to revive my phone using the method linked with flashing the whole partitions onto my phone, but Ubuntu didn't even notice that any drive was connected...
Am I doing something wrong? I mean e.g. is the combo Vol Up + cable still the same in D80220G? Is there any other way of accessing the phone through my computer? Can I somehow stop this bootloop from continuously happening? Doesn't the fact that I can get into Factory Reset menu help in any way?
Thanks for your help in adavnce!

P9 Lite VNS-L31 bootloop, no recovery, no twrp , no bootloader

hello,
after install some rom, my p9 lite get bootloop. I manage to enter fastboot but phone was locked, so to install twrp i unlocked it.
After unlock i can't enter fastboot.
Screen "your devices has been unlocked and can't be trusted" appears, vol up+- power, nothing happens phone vibe 2 times and back to screen "your devices...".
My bootloader is unlock, can i flash twrp without bootloader screen on phone ? My phone is connected to PC but no device detected. Maybe at linux i can do something more than windows ?
Maybe i need to go to fastboot some different way ? i try to push 3 button after fist vibe and 2nd. Nothing work for me :crying:
i tried to past b130 to sd card in dload, vol+- power, nothing not even update screen, same "your devices"....,
now downloading b151

Disconnect from PC. Power of the phone.

i hold power button, if phone isn't connected to pc he is going off. Think is because battery is very low, led is blinking in red.
Then I hold vol down and connect usb cable, but how u can see on video phone weak up and go to booting.
I have hi suit last night as i mention fastboot works, but need to unlock phone. After that "your devices" screen came out and can't fastboot anymore
When i turning off phone with connected usb i can't turn phone off. After a second phone power on by his own.
If phone is disconnected longer than 5 min, then i push vol down and connect usb only red lightening shows up. I need to wait a while to phone start.

OK. When phone is off, if you connect with PC, phone should be start, but this is only for charging. May be, you don't have charge, so phone is not going to fastboot mode with vol down?
Now just connect the phone with PC for full charge.
You don't have any recovery? Custom or stock?
It can be happen?

When i start charge phone blinking red in led, after while phone vibe 1 time and go to booting now, but led don't stop blinking. I will try to charge it, but because of working screen, phone heat a lot i don't wanna burn it.
Before i made rollback and something gone very bad, emui update after 100 % phone don't boot up. Without usb cable i wasn't able to go recovery or fastboot. So i think i don't have any recovery i made backup of files with twrp but now i can't flash it.
after night without power, phone drain all of battery. Now i understood better what is going on. when i plugged usb cable, phone don't start bye it own, only red lighting flash for second .
I disconnect cable and connect it with vol down button how all of here wrote. Phone immediately weak up an go to "your device has been..".
It's look like after i unlock phone (bootloader) somehow i was able to corrupt bootloader files or even delete it. Some one can confirm that it is possible to crash bootloader ?

I have the same situation. I tried everything, Three button method, letting the battery run out completely, Vol+ and Power, Vol- and Power, connected to PC, not connected to PC. Every time I disconnect the charger, and reconnect it starts from 0. I read some other people here have the same problem. Send it to warranty and explain your rollback process unlocked the bootloader somehow (I mean the phone does do a lot of sh*ty sh*t, so this shouldn't seem very odd as well!!!) and hope that you get a repair/replacement and after that sell it on ebay hoping some stupid people like us in the first place will buy it and spend your money on a phone more reliable!
I managed to access the fastboot using the 3 button method in cold boot. Hold the Power key until the screen goes off and then release and hold down the Vol- key and immideately connect the usb cable to PC right before it vibrates or exactly when it vibrates (it's a matter of timing), and bingo you are in fastboot and you can flash system.img, recovery.img, cust.img, cache.img and boot.img from there, but this is not how I revived my phone. I used the 3 button method again when the phone was charged for like half an hour or so and the did the same cold boot trick and I could boot into the force upgrade environment (strangely this still didn't work whitout connecting the usb cable to PC), but it somehow didn't want to read the UPDATE.APP that I had in dload folder on my SD card and wanted to have it from my PC (I just felt it nad there was no indication of it ) so then I installed the DC Phoenix tool and payed 15 euros to be able to inject the complete UPDATE.APP to my bricked phone and the installation went well to 99% and failed, but I rebooted the phone and I could boot normally. Just to make sure I did a factory reset afterwards. Hope this helps.

Yes. I am actually writing this from my Huawei P9 Lite now. This phone is really a nightmare for modifying and customization. I'm not sure if I'm going to resell it or just wait a reasonable amount of time until some reviews from the next update come out and see if I might wanna take the risk and update my phone again.
