i curently have the Evo 4g thats been through alot. im able for an upgrade and wouldnt mind something new. the ? i have isw what kind of things will i be looking at between the EVO and the new Evo Design for sprint. For example i already know im loosing quality in the main camera, getting a faster processor. any help would be greatly apreciated and sorry if this thread is in the wrong place. i really just didnt know where to put it.
Don't get a phone without a dual core proc. Get evo 3d if you have a tight budget or wait for something better because I've used a galaxy s 2 and and I did not like it.

I wouldn't upgrade to anything that isn't' LTE compatible at this point.
If you want to upgrade from the EVO, your options are the EVO 3D, Photon, and Epic 4G Touch. I tried out all 3 and I liked the E4GT way more than the others, so that's what I went with. Best thing to do would be to go to a Sprint store and try them all out for yourself.
The USB port on my EVO was on its way out, so I went for the $90 buyback and got the E4GT for $110.
The rep that helped me said something about a "New EVO" coming in the next couple months, but we all know how far we can trust what Sprint store reps say.

I wouldn't expect any LTE phones from Sprint for a while yet. They aren't rolling out LTE until 2013 anyway. That's why I didn't worry about using my last Premier upgrade now. Hopefully they have LTE fully up and running in 22 months with some great new phones.

I'm not upgrading my evo until something comes out that blows it out of the water. And so far there isnt any phones that do that.

Was wondering if we could get some of the top devs to chime in on what is the next device they are going to move on to now that the Evo has gotten a little long on the tooth. I'm on the fence on what my next phone is gonna be. Evo 3D or Galaxy S II. I'm partial to the GS II. The specs sound incredible but don't want to get it & have no Dev support. Case in point, the Epic. I've heard from Myn personally & he's on board with the 3D & I've heard through the grapevine that Aamikam is too. So what about Calkulin, toastcfh, flipzmode, ViRuS, netarchy, and others. Sorry if I left anyone out but those are off the top of my head.

Hmmm my upgrade isn't until September so im hoping better devices might show up. Personally I say get whatever phone makes you happy; I don't buy my phone's based on which "dev" is getting it, I get it because that's what I want lol. For every device there's usually great devs.....except the epic....its like a red head step child no one likes it.

Well I my upgrade came June 4th so I can grab the 3D on the 24th or wait for the Within whenever it get released. I'm trying to narrow it down because last year I bought the Evo on release date and purchased the Epic a few months for my second line. I walked around with both for months but rarely used the Epic. It was an alright phone, and spec wise it was better than the Evo but the devs are what really made the Evo for me. That and the fact that I despise TouchWiz with all of my being. Finally got rid of that second line and trying to make a good decision. Want to get the Evo but pound for pound the GS II is the champ. To me the dev support is gonna be the final decision maker. I'm a flash-a-holic and I need my fix for new and different roms.

Looks like Sprint is going to have to give me a new phone since I'm on my third Shift since release, and this one has major antenna problems (lose data, can't make calls half the time, texts are intermittent, etc.). So I'm wondering if I should try one more shift or actually get an Evo. I'm not getting a Samsung device, they just feel like crap to me.
I don't know what to do darnit lol.
You could see if they'll give you an EVO 3D.

I say stick with the Shift . But I'm biased. Love my Shift, hands down best phone I've ever owned. I had an EVO before this. The EVO is a great phone. But a little too big for the pocket. Plus the Shift can be OC'd way higher. But either way your good. Plenty of Dev's on both phones. Plus you can run some awesome Mik roms on both. Just my two cents.

I looked at the 3D, but it just seems gimmicky to me.
The Evo is likely my best option, but I'll certainly miss the keyboard. I even thought about the Nexus S or Epic, but I just hate the feel of Samsung phones, so I don't think they're an option. I'm not entirely sure they'll let me get another Shift, but if they do you can bet I'm asking for a new one and not a refurb
I've rooted all three Shifts multiple times, the first two were hardware issues (loose keyboard--me being too picky, then a loose ear speaker). Rooting it didn't help the service issues a bit on this third one, which is what leads me to believe there's an antenna issue

if you think the 3d part of the evo3d is gimmicky, just ignore it and realize its a really a CDMA version of the HTC Sensation. One of the best phones on the market.

Well, if you've still got the problems keep calling and complaining. The Evo and the Shift should be an even swap I think. I haven't called them to find out yet.
Granted, I'm on an employee plan and go through employee care tech support, so the rules and prices are a little different.
edit: guess I didn't have a choice...they're sending me yet another Shift, and probably another freaking refurbished one at that.
Well on the upside, since your on your fourth Shift. My buddy works for Sprint. You can actually request/ demand it be a new one. Also, if your unsatisfied with this one new/other. You can request they give you a different device equal to the Shift.

well, I got the new phone in the mail, activated it this morning. Other than having a somewhat loose slider again (which is going to be extremely annoying) it looks like it might work.

When my wife had the Samsung moment, I had to go through so many devices before they would offer me something comparable. Which was the intercept, an even worse phone. Not even the Hero was an option! Ended up emailing [email protected] and then reporting to BBB and finally got my upgrade reset. It was a total PITA.
Hey all. I decided against going with the 3vo and went with the 4g (on the advice of a few sprint employee friends). I've had root on my hero since it was possible and finally just got tired of the phone itself. This phone is everything I knew it would be. SOME issues I've experienced but nothing all that bad. GV didn't work at all but it's working now and the voice option on the keyboard doesn't work. Oh well.
Anyways, I'm not at all a dev, but will be happy to give feedback on whatever rom (once root). For those who are working on root options...GOOD LUCK!!!

My theory is that this phone has a lot left in it. For a phone still running Froyo it can still hold its own against Gingerbread phones. This was one of the few Froyo phones to get skype video chat support (even though we can't use the ffc). This phone is. Damn good phone and now with LTE coming mid-2012 no one will want to give it up. Most people with an Evo have moved on to a new phone, Epic owners are still holding on. Plus compared to the Evo Shift this is the best andrid phone with a keyboard and no telling if there will be another. Just my thoughts

EOL was supposed to be October but at the bottom of the EOL it said *these dates are subject to change
Obviously they changed for the epic.
Probably because there aren't a lot of high end Android phones with a physical keyboard on Sprint, while there are plenty of ones without. It fills a niche. The EVO doesn't.
I hope this mean they will keep the epic 4g as a mid-range phone and extend its life all throughout 2012.

Why would they list the EVO twice if that was the case? Back in July and recent. I understand where you're coming from but this absolutist end of the Epic mood you put into your posts is unneeded. There is no point in complaining, it's a phone, we're on Android. The OS and the phones move so fast that top of the line is end of the line in a matter of days to be figurative. It's not end of line at the moment. It will be but not now.

Exactly. There isn't a phone that has replaced it yet. I require a physical keyboard for my day to day use of my phone. I have tried to go virtual keyboard and just can't do it. I've already rooted the phone and it was hella easy! Haven't tried any ROMs yet (being picky) but I will soon enough. I got CWM and I'm missing drob's "superwipe" I gotta get him to show me how I could implement it to the SG3.

Speaking of the hero I just found my hero's otter box case no hero in it though...
And yeah Samsung has really stepped it up a bit, and if I can save my pennies the SIII will be my next phone

Ahhh so sad to see you go. My shift line is up soon but I'm still undecided on what phone or if I should wait a tad to see the summer releases

It would be great to have you come on board with the SG3. Coming Black Friday, the SG3 is sold for only $50!!!
I could see it already... SUPREME GALAXY!!!

Hey Thronnos, CRYSTAL2 looks hella good on the SG3. Imagine flashing a whole bunch of AOSP or AOKP with Crystal2 themed. Ridiculous...
In other news I'm ditching the Photon Q for a Galaxy Note 2 after much *****ing at Sprint.

They have the EVO 4G LTE at BestBuy for $99 with a new contract. But I called Sprint out of curiosity. They said they would match that, plus waive activation if I did it through their site. With Free Two Day Shipping. Just throwing it out there .

Tempting me to jump on board the Samsung bandwagon. And I've looked at the new crystal and I love it. He completely brought it in line with Holo. It's soo sexy

GN2 is Quad core. Evo LTE is not. Droid DNA is quad core but Verizon.
Don't know how I feel about HTC anymore. GN2 was really nice to play with at the store.
I am leaning toward the GN2 as well or even the GS3, but the quad core is the bigest selling point.

The EVO 4G LTE has had some major issues locking onto and maintaining LTE signals. Sprint and HTC are being lazy about fixing it properly. The Galaxy S3 is better.

Is that a Sprint or HTC issue though?

Probably an HTC issue, but we aren't 100% sure. And quite a few people have exchanged their EVO LTE's out for GS III's as a result.

This is so true bec. I hear it all the time from my wife (who owns a Evo lte) on how her signal goes from 4g-3g-1x constantly. Also she is having problems connecting to Wi-Fi.

It's a shame, because the EVO LTE is a nice phone. Played with a couple in a few different Sprint stores.
Is anyone staying with the HTC Evo Shift? Or is this phone too obsolete?

Definitely not obsolete yet, but some of the new phones just blow it out of the water... The Shift can run JB which is the newest version of Android so nobody can say its obsolete til it can't handle the latest version of Android, lack of dev support is a little different story... But there still are a few of us trying to keep you guys supplied with new ROMs. When my contract is up in June I am getting a QuadCore with LTE even if I have to go with Verizon. I have had my eye on the Optimus G. Quad Core and a 13MP camera? Yes please. The Droid DNA's specs are amazing too. I don't see HTC coming out with something to match either one in the next 6 months but I'm definitely not going with Samsuck. If there is nothing from HTC worth getting its gonna be LG or Motorola. Ok rant done.

Don't know if you've notice all the Roms that are coming out on a weekly basis for the shift, pretty obvious this phone is still going strong.
I may have moved on to a new phone but my shift is still in use for other purposes.
