I did a comparison of how different texting apps compress images as I send them from the galaxy note. I noticed this when I saw how blurry my screenshot came across when I sent it to a friend, I want other people to try this so I can see if this is an issue other's are having
Take a screenshot, then send it to yourself
The original message was a screen shot so the details are
800x1280
216kb in size
sent with the stock app, the picture i got was:
266x426
96kb in size
The screen shot comes out looking all blurry
So i tried go sms pro, I have the setting at 1MB max size for MMS, what I got was:
200x320
53kb
using hand cent set at default mms size (1MB)
800x1280
218kb
So handcent preserved the picture quality perfectly while the other two were crap, oddly enough, go sms picture was more clear then the stock app even though it was half the size and worse resolution
Then I took a normal picture with the camera on the phone and sent that to myself through mms
original picture:
3264x2448
2991kb
sending mms with Stock app:
544x408
178kb
sending mms with Go SMS:
408x306
98kb
sending mms with Hand cent:
1024x768
609kb
Once again, handcent did a lot better job of resizing the picture and keeping the original quality. However once again go sms beat the stock app in picture quality even though smaller size and worse resolution.
So from my conclusion, for sending pics on the phone, definitely use handcent. I wanted to just use the stock app as I really like it but I will use handcent for sending pics to people as well as looking at pics since it doesnt do the stupid video format the stock app does
Also I just received a picture text from my friend and the details are as follows
768x1024
171kb
Let me know what your results are, I want to see if this is just a problem my phone is having or if this is more common.
Thanks
anyone? just making sure this isnt an isolated problem
No MMS
I'd like to test it for you, but I can't get MMS to work at all, sending or receiving. I tried all the APN settings recommended on this site. Anyone?
Using stock app...

davidusr: I already tried all the variations of settings on this site (and there are several). I called ATT 2nd level tech support last night (after first level couldn't help) and he sent me a bunch of settings that didn't apply to this particular phone, but the parts that did match all the settings people are using on this site. Still no luck at MMS. Yet I put the sim card in my Atrix and it works fine. I guess I'll have to give up and send the phone back and wait for ATT to release it in a couple months.
Spanner48: I'm on ATT and I should have said that in my post. Is anyone else on ATT getting this phone to send/receive sms?
I am on att and just tried this and it works fine. When I texted a picture to myself it initially said picture to large and then started to compress it. It send fine and I received it fine. The picture I received is compressed but looks fine.

Yep, found another thread where the guy said it didn't work one day, and the next day it did. So I deleted my APN, then put the numbers back in it again, and yep, today it worked. Just so there's no confusion (as there are several variations on here) here is the one I used. Oh, and since it's happened twice, for you new guys, if it doesn't work one day, try it again the next day after deleting everything and starting over. Maybe the phone has to be on the system for 24 hours before it works?

I second these settings for MMS. Took a lot of playing around before I found these and got it working. HOWEVER... Mine is set to MMS only not Internet + MMS. I use the Phone APN for the internet. Speeds for internet are certainly better.
Also of note, many say to use the MMSC Proxy of mmsc.cingular.com instead of wireless.cingular.com. When i use MMSC.cingular.com it breaks my MMS
Also on ATT and my mms/sms works fine. I just used the APN settings from my samsung infuse and it worked fine. No issues what so ever.

I recently came across a different forum that had a user that claimed these apn settings worked on his device, (it wasn't an HD2, but I had to try it) Afterwards, I attempted to send a MMS message that was almost 300kb, and it sent in less than 2 seconds on HSDPA. I also used the Xtremelabs speedtest app and scored 2328.8 Kbits/s max download, and 480.1 Kbits/s upload. On Wi-fi I only scored 1342.6 Kbits/s max download, and 271.6 Kbits/s upload.
I tested this on both Darkstones latest Froyostone sense v3.2, and BiffMod HD2 v1.1 vanilla froyo.

As far as I can tell, APN Type is possibly what fixes this problem.
The orange text says EDGE, but it is actually HSDPA/HSPA+, whichever its supposed to be.

Guys, if you have any other carriers, besides T-Mobile, or AT&T, let me know and i will update the post.
it works for mms (for me) but how is the stability of the connection? does it still drop a lot? wasn't sure if that was the apn's fault or ppp.

The stability is directly related to ppp, the apn just determines how it goes through t-mobiles servers. Try using BiffMod HD2 v1.1, havent had a single ppp data disconnect yet.
The main problem with MMS on sense builds is when receiving the MMS, it will be compressed to 3-4Kb because of the Desire user agent being used.
AFAIK, the APN settings won't prevent that. So while these setting may allow sending MMS fast, they won't fix the compression issue.
Also, I believe using proxys may prevent some websites from displaying correctly.

No problem dude, I'm glad I was finally able to contribute something to XDA.
I used these settings on the FroyoSense v3.2 and, my MMS is working as long as it isn't connected to WiFi.
Other than that it works like a charm.
Can anyone tell me how I can get the MMS over WiFi working? Or is it not supposed to work that way?

Thank you soooo much, these exact settings fixed my mms issue with HD2Froyo v3 !!!!!!!!!!!
I believe the MMS Proxy IP should be 216.155.165.50
That is the IP I got from the T-Mobile support site, since it's working for some it makes me wonder if MMS is not being pushed through the proxy at all.

Oh, before I forget, I already posted this on kingxklick.com, but it seems like the HD2 forums are dead over there except for infinitybiff.
First off let me say I've been searching EXTENSIVELY on this issue.
I'm in the US on T-Mobiles HTC HD2 (obviously).
When I purchased the phone it had already been rooted (I believe that is the correct term). It was running winmo 6.5 along with Android on an SD card.
I haven't had the phone long but I've learned so much from this site regarding modding and such. I can NOT send MMS messages on Android (I believe I remember sending one on Winmo). I don't have a data plan and I've tried every single APN I've found. Still nothing.
I recently flashed my phone with the new MAGLDR. I used "MDJ_Revolution_HD_v._2.2_NAND". It runs pretty smooth.. Except no mms capability =(. I've updated the Radio to the most recent. 2.15~ (I think).
I've read that possibly it's the ROM I'm using. Like I said I've been searching, please bare with me on this question, but I'm a little confused on what a ROM actually is. From what I've read everything I've found is a "winmo" rom. I beleive the rom that came with my phone (note: it came from someone else, its not stock) is Energy? It's a blue logo at bootup.
Would I have better luck with the MMS if I flashed to another rom? And if so, how would that affect my android? This site is full of information and sometimes it's hard to sift through what I need and what is extra. ANY help on this matter would be greatly greatly appreciated.
Thank you

I didn't know that you could send an MMS without a data plan. Most Android builds won't send MMS over Wifi and without a data plan. Some of the new NAND builds have MMS working over Wifi.

My old Nokia would send good quality MMS without a data plan so I just assumed this would be the same. If you think this is the case then I suppose I can stop beating my head against the wall.

I knew it! How did they get it working?
There were three phones on our family plan and none of them would send/recieve MMS. I don't know what they did to get it working, however, they sent information from the cell towers to the phones repeatedly until all three phones worked properly.
2 things u need to check out is to fix the problem,
1. (Boot Android) if u are in roaming area u need to go to your settings go to wireless and networks then go to mobile networks (NOT MOBILE NETWORK) and simply click on the checkmart data roaming to enable data tranfer over roaming coverage and then go to Accesspoint names and clik on the one avaliable. ( you should now be able to send and recieve MMS messages or send them over your network.

The MMS should be setup as follows:
1. Settings --> Wireless and Networks --> Mobile Networks --> Access Point Names
2. The APN should be named "T-Mobile US"
3. Edit that or create it and the settings within should be:

Thanks, but that one never worked. I heard that was for if you HAVE a data plan, seeing as how I don't I was able to use this one:

Ok update: Now all the MMS I receive are very very small. 4KB~ Average. Any Ideas?
New Problem
I have all the MMS Settings set up properly. The onlu problem that I have is...
I am able to send picture messages aka MMS Messages ( I am on an unlimited messaging plan and hence the picture messages are included)
However I have problems downlading and viewing them.
Lets say my friend sends me a picture message ( a .jpg file) It shows me in the subject that there is an attachment but when I try to download it (first it doesn't even automatically downloads it when I have it set up correct )
the error message comes up " Unable to download message from __"
Can anyone help me ? I don't know how this issue started. I only remember that MMS messages used to download by themselves once before.

Put in the sim card, go to settings - wireless and networks - mobile networks - check "on" Use packet data. Than press Acces point names and create new APN. Depends on what data plan you have you enter the APN settings. I am on grandfathered unlimited AT & T data plan so I created APN called cingular 410. All the settings for this APN you will find easy on this forum, if not, send me private email I will email it to you.It is not hard to set it up even if you are not really computer geek. ( I am not )

Thanks I have h+ and 3g working I just can't send pictures it just sits there with the circle rotating for ever...but I can get picture mail...what did I do wrong...PS thanks again
I was told just delete any apn in there. Create a new one and put ATT and Phone in the first two lines and the system will do the rest.
However, I have the same problem as the poster above, I can send/receive calls, get text but no picture message
It just sits there trying to send it out for ever...see picture below
At the bottom of your apn settings under apn type make sure you have internet and mms checked.
check but still no go on MMS
What is mmsc and what should that be at god this is really pissing me off I have done everything three time and still can't get it to work
I have this problem too! I added port 80 to my apn settings for mms port. At first I thought that cleared it up. But I still have a problem from time to time. Anyone?
Note: I only have issues with sending attachments, like pictures, to text messages (ie mms). Emailing attachments works fine.

Seems like I'm not the only one with this problem please if any finds out anything that works let me know.....
ok so after going back and forth every witch way i
Got it to work here is a picture of my settings
The first few values scrolled off the top. Apn, proxy, port, username. I'd assume wap.cingular and the rest empty.

Ya I think here is a picture of the top
Bumpkiss!
I stuffed my sim into my Sgt to interrogate the apn there. ...same as what you have suggested. . . My Sgt sends fine. Put the sim back in sgn used these apn settings. . Still the same problem. . .

Ok, I went through this drill with AT&T and it took a couple calls to get things sorted out after I activated my new line for my phone. I had precisely the same issue that you did where everything worked except MMS.
#1 - Be SURE they double checked that they provisioned your phone correctly on the back end. Unless your phone was correctly provisioned, your phone's APN settings don't mean jack. Ensure that AT&T setup your phone on the back end as though it was a Samsung Galaxy S2 (not the Skyrocket though). I had to get past tier 1 support to get my issues corrected.
#2 - Remove any and all APN entries you already have there and setup your phone as follows:
Under Settings\Mobile network settings: Use packet data (check to enable)
Tap 'Access Point Names'
Tap the menu button, left of the home button and choose 'New APN'
Name: AT&T WAP
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
Port: 80
Username <not set> - Leave this alone
Password: <not set> - Leave this alone
Server: <not set> - Leave this alone
MMSC: http:/mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type: <not set> - Leave this alone
APN type: internet + mms
Do NOT forget to tap menu again and choose 'save'
This should work without rebooting the phone, but I rebooted mine anyway because they asked me to.
Again, make sure they correctly provisioned your phone and tell them that it should be setup as though it is a Galaxy S2 (not the Skyrocket).
My phone went from 3G/H+ with only sms and NO MMS reading/sending to full functionality once they fixed a provisioning issue AND only with the right APN settings, which AT&T gave me from their Galaxy S2 phone configs.
Enjoy.

the MMSC url should have read http with 2 slashes and not one like this: "http:/"
XDA won't let me post proper URL's until I have 8 posts, so forgive the intentional typo It keeps stopping me each time to try and find a way to fix it. I even had to wait 5 minutes to make the point of correction.
Spammers really have a way of making this suck for the rest of us...

OK so after all of that now does your Gnote say At&t on the top in the notification bar? Just a question as mine is working without me having to call att but took alot of work on my end and troubleshooting..but no at$t on the top just 3g and h+

Nope, no AT&T banner at all.
Me neither. . . My Sgt actually did have a att banner. . . Not sure that provides any insight on what a sgn should do...
I am still borkes on this front. My sgn works really well otherwise. . . .

Hello everyone,
I just joined T-mobile last week and ported over my old phone number to it. I'm able to receive and make phone calls just fine, but I'm unable to receive SMS/MMS messages. Oddly I can send them to my friends, and they have all confirmed receiving the messages (they called/emailed me to let me know). I was told it would take 2-8 hours on average to port my number over, but up to 48 hours worst case. It's been 5 days now.
I've contacted T-Mobile about 8 times now over the phone, and each time I'm told to check my APN settings, clear my data and cache in the messaging app, reboot the phone, put it into airplane mode then out of airplane mode. Nothing is working. Upon googling, some people have said to contact their technical department and to ask for a number rebroadcast. They're not working on this, and I hope it works as I sent and received several text messages on a daily basis, both work and personal.
Has anyone ever had issues like this? I'm scared that it'll never be fixed, and I really don't want to resort to getting a new phone number just to "fix" the issue. Some people on google in the past have said a rebroadcast has fixed it for them, while others have gone weeks without resolve. All of these horror stories were from 2009 or 10, so I'm hoping now that a few years have passed, T-Mobile has their act straightened and can fix this.
Try this: open the dialer and press *#*#4636#*#*
Then phone information.
Scroll down to SMSC and hit refresh. Make sure it reads "+12063130004",145. (Including quotations) if not change it to that.
See if that helps.
P.S. you may want to write down the smsc before you change it.

It matched exactly. Not sure what to do but wait 24 hours like they said I guess. Although I've waited the past 3 days every time they've told me they were trying something new. I really do appreciate your help though. I noticed WCDMA was selected as my primary network type, is this correct?

Yep that's correct. Wcdma preferred. One more thing to check. Is your old phone still on? That can mess up SMS as well during porting.

I ported my number from a Google voice account. Friends of mine have done this a few times flawlessly, so I figured I'd port mine over too since everyone practically calls/texted me at that number. Google claims the number has been transferred completely over to T-mobile, so it's their issue if I'm not receiving SMS messages.
Hmmm. Well I'm out of ideas. Hopefully it sorts itself out Good luck!

I'm not on the prepaid plan if that helps. I noticed some users on google searches had different APN settings for prepaid plans. I'm on their new $50 unlimited text, talk, web plan. Also to jonapunk, funny thing is I can text myself and receive it near instantly, but I can't receive messages from other T-Mobile users, or any other carrier.

I don't think apn settings make a difference when it comes to your plan.
What radio are you on? Look under settings/about phone/ what are the last 2 digits where it says baseband version?
I would test it out on another phone, if that does not work it's mostly something wrong on t-mobiles side. Had a similar issue but it resorted itself out after some time when porting to t-mobile.
So I just flashed this ROM the other day via safestrap on my AT&T s4. im extremely happy with the rom. The only 2 issues im having are with MMS. I cant send picture messages whether im on WiFi or not. It just shows sending, then the circle sits there forever trying to send. I flashed the kernel modules and configured APN settings. However, I can receive MMS all the time.
The other issue with MMS is for some reason, when I receive MMS now, it starts a whole new conversation for that person in what looks like a group message. It displays my name and the person that sent the picture as the recipients. If there is a way to just keep it in the same conversation im having with that person, Id like to do that.
Ive spent hours looking on the forums to find someone with a similar issue or fix. No luck.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Did you flash the compatibility pack? Also, you can only send mms over movie data.
Sent from Black<3's I337 running Hyperdrive
I did not know the compatibility pack was needed for me. nor could i Find it.
Also, I know you can only send pictures over mobile data, but some users were reporting issues of not being able to send pictures while their wifi was turned on. Unfortunately, I cannot sent whether its on or off.

The compatibility link is right under the link to the RLS13 download in the AT&T Hyperdrive thread. Flash that and see if it helps.
I get my MMS fine with WiFi on, even while i was on Hyperdrive which i was for a good while (12 and 13)
Is it safe to flash the compatibility pack now? after Ive been using the phone for a few days.
Ok so I flashed the compatibility pack. It did not fix my issue, and now my wifi doesnt work at all. Awesome. as soon as I try and turn wifi on it kicks off immediately.
flash the MK2 kernel modules and make sure your APN is correct

I was able to reflash kernel modules and get wifi back. but for some reason it added Cingular and Straighttalk APN's. My data is off and on (Service then no service). Adding the APN for ATT now and will see if that fixes it.
Everything seems to be ok after re-entering the apn settings. However, Im back to square one with picture messages. Still cant send any
