Okay so with all the talk of ice cream sandwich coming out soon iv been looking at if the HTC evo 4g will be getting it. I see that the HTC evo 3D is going to get it then i look if the 4g will get it. I dont see it but i see the HTC evo 4g design?! I didnt even know they "remade" the evo. So apparently the design is going to get ice cream sandwich but not the normal evo?!?

The design has a newer faster 1.2ghz scorpion processor and twice the RAM of the OG
Sent from my -EViLizED-EVO-
From what I've read the designs single core processor is just as fast as the 3vos dualcore basically its the 3vo with a single core and no "3d" that's not really 3d its parallax which is a holographic display and not true 3d
Sent from my -EViLizED-EVO-
The Design has more ram, faster processor and can run ICS efficiently without any problems. As for the OG evo, I'm sure it can run ICS but the device is "officially" old and is on EOL. The sprint corporate store I work at isn't even getting more in stock. The OG Evo's that we have left are the last in terms of getting new ones in to sell.
Also CM9 will be out in January which isn't too long of a wait considering we're halfway through November already.

The design doesnt matter Evo 4G still has roms ported to it that where made for newer phones and ICS is no diffrent just give it some time the OG Evo well be getting some Ice Cream love real soon

Is it even in their roadmap?
Last year, when they released the Evo, official news of Froyo was released shortly after.
But, I haven't heard anything official about Ginger Bread?
Maybe they are too busy working on the Evo 2 and maybe they are saving those for the Evo 2 so that we all can upgrade?
Speaking of Evo 2, it's March already and still no news leaks about an Evo 2?
I doubt it...I usually see htc phones get one big update and that's it. They want you to buy the the next latest and greatest htc phone when it comes out.
We are gtting the evo tab, evo 3d and nexus s 4g.
The EVO 2 was just something started by the community... who knows if it will ever actually happen.
About GB, I don't think anyone has received an update to it besides Devs phones. Some phones are gonna have it on launch...
If the EVO does get it, I kinda feel like it will be later.

Of course they will. There's already a leak out of the one for the Desire here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=983847. If they get, we'll get it either way.
I hope evo 3d comes with 4g

50% on official release for evo
99% on custom ROM... so I am good.

True! If the "Evo 2" gets GB + Sense 2.1, it should be even easier for XDA devs to port and have Wimax working.
So i was debating on getting the HTC EVO 3D because of the new sprint nexus S ...and i ran into this
“I think the Nexus has been the thing we use to set the bar,” Rubin said. “There will always be new ones coming out for the market,” he continued.
So, when?
“The cycles are holidays and the summer time,” he noted indicating that they’d be making an announcement at some point. Considering that we’re already creeping up on the summer, maybe Rubin meant that the new Nexus S 4G for Sprint was the summer device. That leaves the holiday device…
So what will it be? A Nexus running Ice Cream Sandwich (the next version of Android that will unify the tablet Honeycomb OS with Android phones)? Perhaps. Rubin would only commit to the new OS launching “towards the end of the year”.
So what do ya'll think?
That's one announcement I'm really hoping comes out of this. Who knows how soon, if at all (but one might assume as much), it'd come to Sprint. I hope the Nexus S coming to Sprint is a sign of things to come in the future. Hopefully a not too distant future.

Hopefully the next version is GSM&CDMA so that sprint gets it right away.

I concur, as long as we Virus working on the new sense, why would we need anything else.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
So now that we have a pretty stable sense 3.0/android 2.3.3 rom thanks to virus. Whats next for the evo world? Ice Cream Sandwich AOSP*possibly* will run on evo(ill explain why in paragraph 2).Sense 3.1(or whatever will be next sense)less probable to run(if it does it will have EGL issues up the A**, of course).
At Google IO 2011, google had some pretty cool sh*t([email protected]=dope). But with ice cream sandwich coming, will google up their hardware requirements(possibly,50/50).Especially with those cool google apps coming(google music beta, awesome)
Another topic covered by googleis that a number of vendors:Verizon, HTC, Samsung, Sprint, Sony Ericsson, LG, Tmobile, Vodafone, Motorola, and AT&T have comitted to providing the latest updates for their devices for 18 months. Now, the HTC Evo 4G launched on June 4, 2010(Duh),now adding 18 months to that makes it December 4, 2011. Now, Ice Cream Sandwich is *Rumored* to be released in late November or early December. So their is hope evo will get ice cream if its hardware still supports it, but htc may get lazy and still give us sense 1.0.
Remember, that this is all based on my own *opinions*, and is to be taken as possible outcome.
Its a SANDWICH, not a SUNDAY
But I think the Evo could get it, if it meets the specs, and I believe it should.
And with every new release, its always the beginning of the end, but not to let the end be the beginning.

oops, my mistake.
Based off off all information gathered at google io and google.com, i beleive it will get it, but will be stuck at sense 1.0, but our devs will fix that.
The promised 18 months of updates is only for hardware released from Google I/O forward. So we will be lucky if we get it.

GAYTC said "that the Evo 4g doesn't have the required hardware for 2.3 with sense" Which is another excuse to make you buy the new Evo 3D just so they can get more money off you, With that said it's most likely that the Evo 4g won't be getting ice cream and be left behind because of "the required hardware for it".
When will the G2 get android 3.1, the expected ice cream sandwich version with the famous gpu acceleration after its release?
We are on waiting list to get gingerbread soon most probably in august
T-Mobile G2 1.42 GHZ
3.1 is honeycomb
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Haha that's funny. We are still waiting for Gingerbread since its release and your asking about Ice cream. I doubt the G2 will ever see it without rooting.
well since htc signed tht agreement about updating phones for at least a year and a half id say we will see ice cream served

yup the agreement said from now on lol i still think we will get ice cream tho tbh
Dont think the G2 will get Ice Cream. Think it will stop at Gingerbread. Feel Ice Cream is gonna be optimized for dual core devices.
i thought ice cream sandwich was going to be 2.4. that is what i have read on most of the websites. Read that google was going making 3.x a tablet os and keep 2.x as a phone os. If that does i see it continuing with even numbers being phone os and odd being table os.

nop not for dual cores only
...and it's putting a stop to Android fragmentation...
There's nothing worse than your friends having a more recent Android version than what you have, and thus getting cool new features. Google said they want "one OS that runs everywhere." They're going to do this by adapting the framework and adding new APIs "to help developers optimize for all various devices." Naturally, they're going to be open source.
I just read on google that T-mobile said G2 end of life will be soon. I doubt the G2 will see anything past Gingerbread.

If we do see ICS it is going to be because of the rom community supporting it, not the carrier. I sincerely doubt we'll see a G3 come down the pipes within the year. I can only think that HTC will keep with the two year gap like they did with the G1-G2. When they do, I would imagine that it will be running ICS, probably around mid July next year.
Admittedly this is all speculation.
That worries me tooo

Well that was out of stock on tmobile doesn't really mean its the end of it, tmobile just has it out of stock so don't worry, this have nothing with the G2 ending LOL
And look @ this link

T-Mobile G2 1.42 GHZ
This link means not only for dual core, but for every android device ice cream will be optimized for, therefor I think we will see ice cream sandwich update, they can't leave us like this.
T-Mobile G2 1.42 GHZ
T-mobile has the G2 as approaching end of life in the system, we are nearing that point. Cyanogen will still have us covered for ICS, I'm not worried.

Frankly i can't wait till the drop of ICS. I'm supporting my buddy in getting the latest of updates so moving over to a super stable rom will be a godsend.
I seriously don't want to flash ice cream in the G2 I really want the official update that we should get because ice cream will be optimized to fit all android devices. But for now we are waiting for gingerbread and after that we can hope to receive the ice cream update from htc
T-Mobile G2 1.42 GHZ
from getandroidstuff.com
Courtesy of HTC Facebook page we already know which htc devices will get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Update. Now the company put them together in a list on official HTC Blog. It looks like the HTC EVO Shift 4G did not make the cut for the "official" update .
DROID Incredible 2 by HTC
HTC Amaze 4G
HTC Desire S
HTC Desire HD
HTC EVO 3D
HTC EVO Design 4G
HTC Incredible S
HTC Sensation
HTC Sensation XL
HTC Sensation 4G
HTC Sensation XE
HTC Raider
HTC Rezound
HTC Rhyme
HTC Thunderbolt
HTC Vivid
Currently Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Update rolling out to German HTC Sensation XE and basic HTC Sensation, the update will be more widely available in the next few weeks. The update for the HTC Sensation 4G and HTC Sensation XL will follow, but there is no estimated time of arrival.
Not to worried about the official update . I have faith in our Devs here to make it available for the Shift

Oh yea, and the shift will run it like a beast too. Knowing how smooth Sense 3.5 was..and since "sense" 4.0 (look a homophone lol) is even lighter, it'll be hella fast.
If sense ICS gets WiMAX first. I'll use it.

When the EVO 3D/EVO Design get their sense 3.6 ICS upgrades it will help to get WiMax on the Shift ports also. (Sense 3.6/4.0 alike)
I seriously doubt we will ever see a Sense 3.5 WiMax capable ROM. I mean it really wasn't going to happen until sprint got a Sense 3.5 WiMax Phone, and now any new phone Sprint will get that "might" get WiMax will be Sense 4.0 developers will abandon 3.5 (for good reason)
Sprint probably won't release any new WiMax phones anyway, unless their LTE plan COMPLETELY goes to ****.

i was reading something yesterday about sprint getting the galaxy nexus next month and the htc one in june and the phones are supposed to have the ability to transition from 3g to 4g like they do with 2g/3g now and have the lte radios in em for when the lte goes live. see what happens though. I knew the shift wouldnt make the cut for the official ICS though so thats not a shocker.
Yeah I think we all saw this coming, but we were just hoping anyway.
