Firmware: 2.3.5, Baseband: S;D700.0.5S.EI22, Kernal: 2.6.35.7, Build: GINGERBREAD.EI22
I applied the recent Gingerbread update via OTA, and Rooted via:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwFRzzIqouE & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWOLEXqAeCc (qbking77)
Now, my Epic wont show up on my computer via mass storage.
Plug into PC, prompted for mass storage, never shows up in devices, but shows charging.
Updated drivers, does not show up in Kies either, Updated PRL, tried different ports, different cables. I also have a tab 10.1 and this has no issues.
Also had no issues prior to Rooting. No longer shows up in Odin either.
Suggestions please. Let me know if you need any other info.
Much appreciation in advance!

##8778# Make sure they are both set to PDA
Yes, they are both set to PDA ... primary concern is not them connecting to Odin or Kies. The point is that the PC is not recognizing it as a storage device.
Turn usb debugging off. Mine refuses to work with the debugging on for some reason. Give that a whirl

I just check mine and my uart is set to modem. Should I change it? What does that do?
Yes, when trying to connect to mass storage, i turn usb debugging off .. and it does not work. Regardless, I have tried with it on and with it off. And with it on, it does not show up in Device Manager either. With it on and with it off, it does not show up as a storage device, it does not show up in Odin or Kies. All it does is charge the device. Again, this worked fine up until I rooted it (the 2nd video link), and at that time, obviously, it showed up in Odin.
Also, I have attempted to unmount and re mount the sd card. This did not work either.
Is there anything else, less obvious, that I may be missing? Or something else that I could try to get this working again (besides removing root and cwm and restoring back to stock - last resort)?
Resolved. Apparently 3rd time is a charm ... re installed the drivers AGAIN. And now it is magically working. Thanks all.
My phone has only ever very sporadically successfully functioned as mass storage. I've played around with the modem/UART settings, USB debugging, drivers, and very little has done much of anything to actually help the situation. I think it has more to do with the moon and stars aligning just right...lol. Now that I have an SD card reader, it's a nonissue.
Mine only shows up as mass storage during a full moon and i can only interact with it without freezing if that full moon happens on the second Wednesday of the month. Lmfao..
Anywho i find it quicker and easier to just toss micro into adapter and pop it in the sd slot.

Pda allows it to be set as a storage device. My phone would not detect it was a mass storage device and only showed up as a modem until I changed this setting

Hey All,
Currently, my epic is running DK28. I think something is physically messed up with the USB connection (this is my guess), since it never is recognized on any computer (tried multiple). Also, the options for USB hard drive or charge only never appear when plugged into computer.
SO, I am wondering if there is anyway to get back to DI18 via an update.zip mechanism. I am able to use SwiftFTP to get files back and forth from the SD slot. But since the USB drive is not recognized by the comp., Odin or the Samsung update tool are not options.
Wondering if there is any other suggestions out there for me,
Thanks
Also, since I'm running DK28, sprint stores will not operate or give me a new phone since its not the "official" version... already tried.
the only way you are going to be able to update is to get usb working (un/reinstall drivers, use a diff cable, use diff usb ports, etc) and either odin or use the eb13 update .exe on your pc
the only other option you have right now is to wait on a cwm flashable system dump but that will not give you the modem or other things that you will probably need...
so i say fix the usb issue...that is really your only option
I've tried multiple different USB cables, reinstalled drivers (on numerous pc's), and used different ports on those pc's. I think i'm probably SOL on this one.
here is a cwm flashable zip to take you back to di18. [Linky]
You will still need to put the stock recovery back after that if you are trying to go totally stock. I know the files for it are around here somewhere, and iirc they may be in the di18 odin tar.

Ok. Thanks,
I will try to flash the zip provided. If it works and i get back to DI18, then would I be able to flash the EB13 update zip floating around? Sorry, I am a little confused.

I tried the update.zip and I get the E:signature verification failed. Installation aborted message. Oh well, thanks though.
Looks like I'm stuck with this one for a while.
Does USB work in download mode? If so you can use ODIN, if not the ROM is not your problem.
USB does not work in download mode either... get some error messages from windows, USB not recognized and such.
reinstall your samsung drivers if that doesn't work you have a big problem.
edit. Try another computer as well
Your usb port may have gone bad. My first epic usb wouldnt do anything after having it for like 30 days so the sprint store just replaced it.

Ya. I tried that. But since i'm stuck on DK28, they won't look at it. The considered it "rooted" even though it isn't. And wouldn't take a look at it. They just gave it back to me.

What are you selecting to flash the zip? If you are doing it right, there should be no signature verification.
Also, after flashing the zip, you might download the ota, but it won't install until you put the stock recovery back, too.
edit: Don't you have clockworkmod?

I do not have clockworkmod. I suppose I should try that before.
I'll try that now, then see what happens
Edit: Sorry, but I'm pretty much a complete idiot. Is it possible to get clockwork working without connection to a pc?
Most likely, the USB cord is the problem. If the computer tells you, the driver was successfully installed, then that's the least of ur problems. I had problems similar to what ur having (USB not recognized, doesn't recognize in Download mode, etc etc.) All I had to do was find a USB cord that worked correctly (the one that came with the phone is not reliable 100%) and all ur problems should be solved!

How unfortnate in may seem, they might have just been all bad cables. I eventualy used the cord from my brother's EVO, so...... just a suggestion, I still may be completely wrong.

Hi everyone,
So I tried to use SwiftBootloaderBuilder to re-partition my phone but for some reason it didn't work at all so I tried emergency mode and tried to flash with KDZ updater. I also tried fastboot to flash but it did not work. In any instance of trying to use the USB since, my computer has reported that the device could not start up. I've tried it on another computer and the issue remains the same. The phone still works perfectly including recovery mode but when I connect the USB, the top bar keeps popping up USB connected and disappearing and reappearing constantly.
I believe there's a problem with the USB because fastboot, recovery, and even CM7 won't work with the USB connected.
**I've gotten it to work with a USB 3.0 connection and was able to reflash everything but it still doesn't work at all for USB 2.0.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Thanks
Wipe and flash?
You could wipe your data then flash the latest ROM. Be sure to back it up though After flashing, your could restore your data partition or your applications via your favorite backup app.

Also, the issue is with the USB ports. I had a similar issue apart from devices would disconnect when transferring a considerable amount of data over USB. I fixed it by going into Device Manager and uninstalling all of the 'root hub/usb controller' devices in the USB Controllers section.
i seem to have a problem with mounting the internal storage on the phone, it doesnt ask me to mount when i plug the phone in like it normally would so i tried mounting through recovery but still cant do it through there, tried 3 different roms and all the same issue, are there any kernels with this issue? im running newest nscollab with the kernel it comes with...not sure what to do
are you running the latest recovery? can you use the storage space with apps on the phone?
I have been having the exact same problems. Nothing seems to work. Can't mount through CW and I have the most recent version. Randomly it started to work again by turning the phone off. Plugging phone into computer. Turning phone back on. It would recognize it until now. Now that doesn't work....
I am using Mac and Linux and neither one need drivers so that has nothing to do with it.
I'm screwed if I have to take the phone in for warranty work because I am rooted.
Anyone come up with something to fix this?
Or is there a way to "force it to mount?"
Its really f'in annoying

So it's showing the storage on the phone and not on the computer, correct?
Can you select to mount the USB when you plug it in?
Does the device show up in the System Profiler app in Mac OS X?

That is incorrect. It does not show up on the phone. When it shows up on the phone it mounts to the computer. It is not even recognizing it on the phone now. For awhile it was working and now its not again. Haven't done anything else to the phone.
When it doesn't show up on my phone it is not recognized by the system profiler.
Never had a problem with any other android device except on my epic 4g when I tried running the miui beta for it. But it would still mount in clockwork.
It is not the cable because I have four different cables. One of which works flawlessly on my epic. Which had a lot of problems when using the stock cable.
Is this hardware related or is it because of the rooting process?
What r some possible fixes if any?
I really would not mind going back to stock and starting over. But the only way to get back to stock is by USB. And nothing recognizes it. Adb. Fastboot. Odin (heimdall in Mac terms) nothing recognized it

okay, I had this issue when the nexus s 4g was first released and the first roms/recoveries came out. I would just start over. backup using titanium backup and flash the stock files in fastboot, then unlock again, flash the recoveries, etc.
How exactly would I revert to stock if commands from my computer in fastboot do not recognize the device?

Try es file explorer and give root access ... this was u can atleast access files from your phone...
PROBLEM SOLVED... at least for me
Found out when flashing to a stock rom (currently running MIUI) that my usb port on my phone is loose. Just have to be careful with it. Makes sense that it was randomly happening.
With MIUI it wouldn't show right away because I had it set to auto-mount. But when i flashed the stock rom. The pop-up to mount-sd would show up and go away show up and go away....
Darn.
Hi I have updated drivers for GS4 SPH L720, changed cables and also have ticked USB debug.

Did you successfully root? Are you getting a popup message on your computer saying SAMSUNG device not detected?
I occasionally have this issue.
First try restarting your computer. If that doesn't work reinstall the drivers.
Restarting usually fixes it for me.
I have tried everything under the sun. No luck.
So now did a full hard reset, formatted my internal sd. Reinstalled everything.
And tried to connect, got connected.
Issue solved. I can detect both my internal and my eternal sd.

at some point in the last 6 months or so, my phone lost the ability to connect to my computer- I've tested by uninstalling and reinstalling the USB drivers on my computer, using virtual drivers, etc. Everything I could- I even tested on other computers that it has worked on in the past. Nothing helps.
I then decided it must be on my phones end, so I went so far as to replace the USB connection board inside my phone and that doesnt even work.
I used to have my phone rooted, but that was lost at some point over a couple OTA updates-- Is there anyway I can restore root access on my device without using a USB connection, or does anyone have any ideas on how to fix the connection issue?
Thanks!

Try the following
1)Boot into booloader and check in device manager if the phone is detected if so then go flash-all.bat 4.4.3( will wipe your phone, new phone factory)

please answer below question
1. what os use on your PC ?
2. do you install others driver beside google adb and fastboot?
3. what version of adb and fastboot you have if you have installed before
4. you said you have OTA udpate from gogole or form the ROM developer?
note:
you need to install latest adb and fastboot. latest version is .31
if you have other 2 or more driver installed before, it may crash or mis regonice the phone, like samsung and google driver for Galaxy nexus which i facing.

I am seeing the same thing also. I even bought a USB replacement part on ebay and installed it. The PC still doesn't see the device.
