Xoom Europe 3G update from 3.1 to 3.2 possible? - Xoom General

Hello,
I have an european Motorola Xoom 3G (MZ601) running Android 3.1 (build H.6.3-25-9).
Is it somehow possible to install Android 3.2 without loosing the 3G?
Up until now I've only found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254933
But this thread says something about "verizon" and I'm not quite sure if this guide is compatible with my xoom.
Thank you!
Best,
eimunic

yes you can install the rom you posted and still have 3G working.
in fact i am running this rom since it came out on my german 3G xoom and i have no problems using 3G.

thank you. I'll give it a try.
The guide says something about hammerhead, what is that?
Is there going to be a stock 3.2 release for the 3G coming soon?
Best

hammerhead is the name of the rom you posted the link to.
there might be a stock 3.2 rom coming, but i guess only motorolla knows when. and they have not been verry quick updating the xooms.
by the way the devs are already working on android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for our xooms.

As I understand the 3.2 update has already rolled out in Europe for wifi only models.
My brother has the 3G and wifi model but hasn't got the update to 3.2 yet.
Does this update for 3G models come later?
Anyone can tell something about that.
TIA

Hi all, I'm in the UK and have a MZ601 and just received the update to 3.2 late last night and it all went smoothly I have a few new apps and its all running well. As an added bonus StorageEther 2 is now working properly and showing both internal and SD card data.
I have to say having a non US Xoom I really did question whether I should unlock and root my Xoom to enable me to run custom Roms and get updates faster. But have to say I have enjoyed my Xoom from day one and really haven't found enough of a need for my usage to make me feel the need to do so. Especially when i read of the many issues with the custom Roms UK and EU Xooms. Literally the only benefit i would get from rooting would be screen shots made easy and for me that just isn't enough of a need to warrant doing it.

to root or not to root? Euro 3g Xoom

Hi guys!
I dont know if its better to root my xoom (so I can use sd, better kernel, etc...) or to wait the official 3.1 euro update (when it will be available????) before doing the root
any suggestion will be appreciated...
thx!
Well I guess sd card support/speed enhancements isn't worth it or you would have rooted already.
Hi,
I rooted mine and put the 3.1 US update on following the 3g in five steps method. I can tell you that along with the Tiamat kernel is like a new device, so much quicker and smoother.
the only thing i see against doing the us 3.1 update is you get the us market place in which u lose the eu apps since its all regional. but apart from that its the best thing ive done to my xoom
True but you can get everything through the web market.
3.1 ? when ?
hi,
i have rooted my 3g uk xoom and im glad i did so as i always require root and always will require root !
however - i have not yet upgraded to 3.1 because i feel the ",,in 5 steps " method seems to be a little inconsistent, some folk reporting 3g issues etc.
i so badly want 3.1 but im just hoping motorola do the right thing and release it or at least give us a release date, i can even wait a month or 2 if i know its on the way.
so if your reading this and you are in the uk and you have used the ",,,in 5 steps" method please share your findings, is 3g working well, do you get 'E' or 'H' or '3G' or whatever?>?
thanks.
ps- come on Moto' where the heck is the euro 3.1 update ?? news please ??
root, next question haha

I am now updated on 3.1, and I can only say, hell yeah. If you don,t root it, no point using it.
A different view. Is like you go into a library computer where all things are locked down. You can only do what they tell you. What you want is administrator access where you use full potential out of it...

Guys; I've posted elsewhere, but you look like you've probably done what I've asked about. Can I ask for a link to the 5 steps method? (I've searched everywhere and I'm now more confused than when I started.) Have any of you tried tiamat with 3.0.1 in order to get cifs or sd card support? Success? Or did you use another method altogether?
Cheers for any answers!!
EDIT: seen the link to the 5 step method - however - anyone used tiamat with it?

I would suggest going the custom rom route. This is the one that I installed, and I am so happy that I did: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1203635
You'll need to first install CWM via fastboot. Instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074979

It is likely a wifi xoom, as nobody here sells 3G xooms.

I don't know if this will come out anytime soon, if at all. Remember 3.1 came out for US Xooms back in May (yes, 3 months ago!), followed by the 3.2 update in July. Source codes haven't been released yet, so rom cooking is not easy to do right now. So far, only the Tiamat team have been doing it, and I'll say that they have done an amazing job given what's available. They have designed a universal rom, that works with Wifi and 3G Xooms, both US and international models
The problem with the official Canadian 3.1 update is that it seems to be a mix of the US 3.1 and 3.2 updates. There are features, like the external sdcard, which are in the Canadian 3.1 update, but weren't available in the US until 3.2 update. So I would be very cautious about trying to "patch" the Canadian 3.1 firmware with anything from other sources as there is going to be some compatibility issues.
Honestly, I wouldn't wait on any kind of patches to come out for Canadian-only firmware. I flashed my Xoom with US firmware back at the end of May, and I am so happy that I did it, as I have been getting the latest and greatest custom roms/kernels/etc since then.
It has Sd card support I'll have to give it a try. I might be able to release a deoxed zipalinged update flash. Not sure if I'll have time but I'll try.

The A501 has the 4G HSPA+ module in it. other than that i am no sure but as there is no CLEAR differential in the A500 section its hard to know what works with what and what will brick it. And as far as i can tell doesn't have any updates YET. so its still sitting pretty at Honeycomb 3.0.1. i keep manually checking for updates but it keeps saying its up to date.

Wrong, it has 3.2 as well. A500 rom on A501 will work, except it will disable 3G builtin module.
Well as I use the 3g module that's bad and just cuz the from works but disables the fundamental diffrence only reinfoeces my point. But according to the Acer site and att there is no offical 3.2 ota for the A501

EUUs_SBK_Acer_A501_0.017.01_PA_ATT is intended for the A501, but is a very early image.
I also think the A500 EEU should work fine, you would just have to use an A501 ROM after to enable the 3G chip (hopefully, the bootloader isn't hardware specific).
Yet I haven't confirmation from someone with A501.

Tablet PCs Acer's A100 and A500 tablets getting Ice Cream Sandwich on April 27th
"With April nearly over, it's high time Acer came clean on when exactly its promised Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for the A100 and A500 would land. Today the company did just that, revealing that US owners of either tablet can opt-in for their frozen makeovers starting on the 27th. Bad news if you're rocking AT&T's variant of the latter though, as the listing on the company's support page for the A501 says "no update planned." Those not tied Ma Bell can expect Acer's skin -- including that ring launcher -- grafted onto Google's latest, much like the A200's ICS upgrade back in February. Already pumped? Go ahead and bookmark that source link. Do it, we won't judge."

I highly doubt I will get a OTA if Im already running the leaked 4.0.3 right? Please advise. I ask because I cant seem to find the official 3.2.1 rom and a working link for the drivers and such to be able to downgrade it.

Huh? Seems that the leaked ICS roms for the A500 had no such problems with tegra 2 unless I missed something.
Cannot find a date for us in the UK or Europe
I don't know specifically about the UK, but I guess it's just going to be the same as for Europe.
For France the website "Les Numériques" said it's starting tomorrow until the 27th of april.
http://www.lesnumeriques.com/tablet...-jour-android-4-0-ics-en-approche-n24110.html
I don't know their source, but it looks that the update started yesterday for the A100 and when we look at the Acer America's planning there is a two-day delay between the A100 ICS release and the A500 ICS release, so it seems possible for it to roll out from tomorrow on.

Its very unknown what will happen. If you will even get a fota notice to update or not. then if you do get the notice will it install. will it fail due to unknown version. I WOULD SAY if you are pushed the update Proceed with caution. But if there is a boot loader unlock mech in the update as expected They may not do the data checking as in the past boot loaders..
SO The answer in short is NOBODY KNOWS Until its OUT.
Hope this lack of information is Helpful.

I remember my last update was from a link, not automatically pushed to my device. So as soon as an official update is available, I think no matter where you are, you eventually will get it. I wouldn't worry because we're not getting ics. If it was going to come out it would have had a leak by now.
And fyi you should never use a stock from anyways, go get neutrino or epinters.

That's just stupid.
First of all, you can't tell people what to do.
Second of all, many important parts of custom ROMs wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for stock.
Plus, you're missing the point entirely.

No, you will not be able to update to ICS even if you're running under AT&T network. The Bell Atrix 4G which is an international version of the Atrix is not the same phone as the AT&T version. Best bet is to unlock your phone and either flash one of the existing ICS or Jelly Bean ROM's, or wait for an official release and hopefully a stock one or a ROM based on the stock one will exist.
