Acer has updated their website with launch dates for ICS. Looks like they will roll ICS out on April 27 for US / Canada.
Check the Acer website for the update, I can't seem to post the link. Finally we have what we need.

Finally... Although I wanted it to be a surprise, after all the wait.
Tablet PCs Acer's A100 and A500 tablets getting Ice Cream Sandwich on April 27th
"With April nearly over, it's high time Acer came clean on when exactly its promised Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for the A100 and A500 would land. Today the company did just that, revealing that US owners of either tablet can opt-in for their frozen makeovers starting on the 27th. Bad news if you're rocking AT&T's variant of the latter though, as the listing on the company's support page for the A501 says "no update planned." Those not tied Ma Bell can expect Acer's skin -- including that ring launcher -- grafted onto Google's latest, much like the A200's ICS upgrade back in February. Already pumped? Go ahead and bookmark that source link. Do it, we won't judge."

Well, lets hope Acer has solved the Tegra driver issues that have plagued other devices running ICS like the Asus Transformer. We shall soon see.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket
I am currently running the leaked version of the 4.0.3 when it first was available. I flashed it so I have no root, etc. Now that the update is coming out, will I be able to flash right over it, or do I need to root and downgrade back to 3.2.1 to be able to update to the official 4.0.3? I highly doubt I will get a OTA if Im already running the leaked 4.0.3 right? Please advise. I ask because I cant seem to find the official 3.2.1 rom and a working link for the drivers and such to be able to downgrade it.

Huh? Seems that the leaked ICS roms for the A500 had no such problems with tegra 2 unless I missed something.
Cannot find a date for us in the UK or Europe
I don't know specifically about the UK, but I guess it's just going to be the same as for Europe.
For France the website "Les Numériques" said it's starting tomorrow until the 27th of april.
http://www.lesnumeriques.com/tablet...-jour-android-4-0-ics-en-approche-n24110.html
I don't know their source, but it looks that the update started yesterday for the A100 and when we look at the Acer America's planning there is a two-day delay between the A100 ICS release and the A500 ICS release, so it seems possible for it to roll out from tomorrow on.
ahahhahahahahaha!!!!!
Finally !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im now F*cking love you man for tell us about it
im sure that all the a500 owners are wait to long for it

Its very unknown what will happen. If you will even get a fota notice to update or not. then if you do get the notice will it install. will it fail due to unknown version. I WOULD SAY if you are pushed the update Proceed with caution. But if there is a boot loader unlock mech in the update as expected They may not do the data checking as in the past boot loaders..
SO The answer in short is NOBODY KNOWS Until its OUT.
Hope this lack of information is Helpful.

Sounds good to me. Not that the leak isn't any good, just would rather have the official if I don't plan on rooting anyways. I'll wait and see if I read about nightmares or sucess.
Thanks for your reply
I just read on twitter (@Acer_NL) that tomorrow Acer will start unrolling official ICS for all Dutch owners. Maybe some devs could look into this..

I remember my last update was from a link, not automatically pushed to my device. So as soon as an official update is available, I think no matter where you are, you eventually will get it. I don't mind to wait a month or so more, but a definite time table makes me feel settled that we will get that.

You guys know a lot more about this stuff then I do. Im only good at following instructions. Rooted many things and many custom roms, just not on the a500. Just the leak and that's nothing special as all I did was flash the stock rom. I'll wait to hear from the pros.

Yes. ...
It's been asked of the mods literally dozens of times, same for the A100. Their lack of action would indicate the answer is "No".

There lack of action only makes me think they need a proper nudging. The A501 seems like a whole different animal to me.

The A501 has the 4G HSPA+ module in it. other than that i am no sure but as there is no CLEAR differential in the A500 section its hard to know what works with what and what will brick it. And as far as i can tell doesn't have any updates YET. so its still sitting pretty at Honeycomb 3.0.1. i keep manually checking for updates but it keeps saying its up to date.

Wrong, it has 3.2 as well. A500 rom on A501 will work, except it will disable 3G builtin module.
Well as I use the 3g module that's bad and just cuz the from works but disables the fundamental diffrence only reinfoeces my point. But according to the Acer site and att there is no offical 3.2 ota for the A501

You can download 3.2 kernel from Acer site, and 3.2 roms from the packages thread, plus many users got the update. I myself received a 3.2 iconia from service, but I had to send it back.

well me in north eastern USA cannot get the OTA that might be available in other countries. my tablet at 3.0.1 says its up to date no matter if i am connected to wifi or 4g.. and my local ATT guys say they don't have any OTA's for it YET. acer doesn't offer an OS update off the site and until i get used to the tablet i won't installing any custom roms.

I'd just like to point out that, if you install the 3.2 FOTA once you get it, you won't be installing any custom ROMs THEN, either.
The new bootloader isn't unlocked, and I don't think the EUU we have is for the A501...

EUUs_SBK_Acer_A501_0.017.01_PA_ATT is intended for the A501, but is a very early image.
I also think the A500 EEU should work fine, you would just have to use an A501 ROM after to enable the 3G chip (hopefully, the bootloader isn't hardware specific).
Yet I haven't confirmation from someone with A501.

It seems that the upgrade it is not confirmed by Motorola for the Xoom Family Edition, but only for the normal Xoom (same hardware!!!).
Given I bought one I'm not happy at all. I thought with the google participitation it was going to be updated at least for one year.It does not make any sense and it's against google android principles.
I also wrote to Engadget about the situation.
Reference:
See support motorola forum
If you own one or plan to buy one, please write to Motorola and Engadget about the upgrade. Maybe it will make Motorola change their mind!

125mb Update hitting Xoom FE
I just got an system update last night on the Xoom FE, unfortunately I cannot confirm if it is iCS. My Xoom FE was rooted by using the Dan Rosenberg exploit which seems to be preventing the update from successfully applying. So for those are rooted, let me know if anyone is having any luck with updates.

Its possible to update a rooted xoom fe. You can check the logs after a failed update. The updater checks for all orig system files and fails if not found. Easiest thing to do is restore /system from a backup. Also use ota rootkeeper to keep root after update. here's a good link to info and needed files.

Xoom got theirs, Transformer gets theirs in February, and if we get ICS at all, we'll be lucky!
I'm using a 1st gen Iconia a500 and live in Vancouver BC (CANADA) and have yet to see an update. I know a few people in the area with ICS already, but why do some get it and others don't? (would be nice to have a smoother running device. )
I'm in the Interior of BC, Canada with a 1st gen A500 and I haven't received ICS either. I phoned Acer Support today - they said that the update is being released in batches and that April 27 is the first day of a one week release window.
Looks like it's possible we may not receive it until as late as May 3 or 4.

Interior here as well and I got it.
Personally I would try and get the update tool uninstalled and reinstalled and see if that works.
Wifes tab was on HC 3.0.1 from time of purchase up until I rooted it, updated to 3.1, then 3.2, 3.2.1 and finally to ICS (all in one day) which entailed updating the Iconia Update tool after each successfull OS upgrade.

Settings About tablet and its under Build number will say COM_GEN1 OR GEN2
Would you have a special Canadian or French Canadian version or the stock English versions which you could upgrade yourself by grabbing the update.zip file floating around.
I also have a GEN1 A500 from Canada, specifically build Acer_A500_7.014.14_COM_GEN1 and I got impatient waiting for the OTA update so I installed the Acer_A500_7.014.14_041.203.01_COM_GEN1 update from the bottom of the first post on this page. I had no problems at all completeling the update and everything seems to be working fine with ICS.
The Op is actually linking straight to Acer's official update server with the ICS links in that post. Remember that if you choose to download these official ROM's you'll need to decrypt the downloaded zip file with the tool mentioned at the top of the first post and follow the rest of the instructions in the How to use full/update package in that first post as well.

ICS update for A501 in the UK

Just to keep anyone interested up to date.

Got my OTA this morning in South Africa. Android Ver 4.0.3
PMB, South Africa
I see my update is ready to download, ICS at last ....
And here it is in the UK... Downloading now. 199MB.
Interesting that it says it does NOT include Flash Player.
I wonder if that was the reason for the delay, so that it could be stripped out.
Yup, got it in Macedonia. Finaly

Yep.
Is it possible to obtain a "temporary root" under ICS on these tablets?
I don't want to move away from stock because of warranty issues but I really would like to be able to use Titanium to back up the apps. What I'm looking for is an equivalent to "Visionary" on the Froyo platforms.
