Rom thats similar to stock + improvements? - Galaxy S II General

Im looking for the best rom thats similar to stock but improves the battery, speed, sound etc.
Thank you
Ps: I tried looking for roms, but all I could find it ICS looking one and custom ones. Im getting my phone tomorrow. Thanks

Sensation rom/criskelo are pretty stock and can be customized. Litening rom is a great stock based rom but is not supported anymore. I personally use Exymos Extreme but the dev got his phone stolen so don't know exactly when development is going to continue for this.

After doing some research, what about cognitive? Is that stock with battery and improvements?

VillainRom 3.0 is a stock rom with improvements. (you can also add a few tweaks yourself)
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk

most of the custom ROMS are stock ROMS and heavily themed. You can choose either sensation (Classic Look), Omega & Turkbey (heavily themed).
Battery : It depends on which kernel you use.
Sensation + Siyah or Speedmod is good. I prefer speedmod as sensation doesnt have any scripts to execute.
Omega - I was using stock kernel and battery life as same as stock
Turkbey : I am using currently and checking the battery life with siyah and I have posted some screenshots on the ROM's page
So now its your turn to decide

I highly recommend either Cognition or Mr Philo's Simple n Clean. These are close to stock but with improvements like extra power menu and integrated numeric battery meter.
I advise staying away from Batista70, it's so intrusive as to be an ego jerk-off exercise for the cook.

I would suggest HyperDroid-Androidmeda-v2.9.0.
Base version is *like* stock. One of the best piece of work out there imho.

If one would recommend another Rom than one is using, now that would be rather odd, no?

Roms without Sense UI

Hello all im currently looking for a rom for my dinc that doesn't have the sense ui... Wich one the most popular.l?
Your looking for Android Open Source Project, or AOSP ROMs, I'd say Cyanogen Mod is the most popular, current version is CM7 RC1, which is Android 2.3. There's Skyraider Athena and a couple others. If your looking for something like an iPhone go for MIUI. Its all your choice.
Sent from God, who uses CM7 RC1.
Yep, my top choice would be CM7-RC1.5, then CM6.1, MIUI, and the rest I've sorta lumped into a big group- but there are a lot of really great AOSP ROM's.
I agree about miui an d cm 6.1-7
Very stable, amazing battery life.
And ironically my first reboot was writing this as I write it is stable lol. nonetheless, I recommend cm, but miui is nice too.
I'm using incredikernal beta and am on like, 58 hours off the charger with my 3500 seidio at 45%.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Let me ask you this... whichever rom I decide to choose, will I still have access to my Verizon backup assistant and Verizon exclusive apps like nfl mobile?
I'm currently running Sense(less) rEVOlution 2.0 (its not AOSP) along with
2.6.32.27-incredikernel-12232010-plus25v. So far I love it. Fast Stable and great battery.
I actually like the senseless ones better than aosp since they keep a bunch of really nice sense stuff while eliminating most of the bloat. Both skyraider athena and senseless revolution (which I also use and love) fall into that category. If you look in the dinc development forum, somebody just posted a nice comprehensive list of the available roms arranged by type. It'd be a great place to start.

Ok im going to sound real amatureish here i rooted my dinc and used the vitorus rom that is basically stock without the bloatware... That being said i need to know what AOSP means. Also i need to know do i install the kernell seperate from the rom itself or is the kernel included and i just have to find the right one.

AOSP basically just means it doesn't have sense, a lot of them are generally buggy but you'll find a few that are very nice to have on your phone.
They all have different looks, so I'd suggest you just checking out each one and seeing for yourself.
MIUI has sort of an iPhone look and feel to it.
I wrote up a list of ROM's here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=969371
So just check down the list to see how different ones look. Of course many of those also have additonal modifications that you can put on that will further change how things look (changing notification bar color, etc)
> Flashing a Kernel you can do just like flashing a ROM. Every ROM (at least that I know of) comes with a kernel when you flash it. However you'll find that there's a few Kernels that give superior battery life and performance than others.
I decided to try skyraider Athena 1.2 has anyone noticed you aren't able to sync your contacts with Facebook?

ROM Reviews and Discussion

Hi guys,
Still on stock ROM, but looking to flash a new one really soon - looked through both Original and Development threads and haven't been very confident so far. Why?
The most popular ones seem to be Lightening and VillainROM, but I haven't found any comprehensive reviews of their battery life and performance - VillainROM doesn't have screenshots either. Mostly the posts on their threads are questions or debugging or pointing out bugs, so its hard to get a proper gauge.
So what are your thoughts on the ROMs so far? Looking for the usual - good battery, stability, performance. I don't care much for the blue of Lightening but as long as it works, it works. What makes it different from Villain?
Also appreciate any other ROMs that may be good to install!
Thanks!
One of the best and smoothest ROMs I've tried has been CyanogenMod 7. Its stable (even in the 7.1 RC), fast, good battery life and reliable. Check it out, its a definite favorite in my book
Sent from my Droid 1 CM7.1.0 RC1
So far I've only tested VillainROM. I'm waiting for a more stable CM7 to try it out, but until then VR seems to be okay. To be honest there's nothing special about it. Battery life is acceptable, it's close to a stock rom, it doesn't have bugs, it has Nimpo kernel, vrtweaks which let you install some mods more easily, and the devs are skilled and helpful. That's enough for me

Which one of this roms has BLN already activated?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
I've now used villain, darkys, adam's aosp, CM7 and MIUI.
All great roms. Villain and darky are both quite close too stock TW. AdamG AOSP is as about as close to androidstock as you can get-which is clean and simple. CM7 is the ultimate ROM for the tweaker and hacker and its also v fast.
MIUI is the most visually different rom. It looks completely different and has some great visual cues. Battery life its also v good on the latest build (.29 beta 32). Its the one I'm using at the moment, but I switch between it and CM7 on occasion.
you won't go wrong with any and although they aren't fully stable (the non TW ones). I've never had any stability issues with them. Just be prepared to not have an fm radio or full bluetooth audio...
My 2 cents, hope it helps!

P.s. Not sure about lightening but one of the earlier builds of villain gave me the best battery life ever on this phone. I think it was 1.4, but this was about a month ago..

There are quite a few, VillainROM is included. You can also flash a BLN compatible kernel to make BLN work.
Thanks, I may want to stick close to TW-based ROMs for the time being until CM7 is stable and GS2-friendly then I've done MIUI before, its a fantastic ROM for older phones, but of course there's problems with translations sometimes and the UI gets old/too iphone after a while.
currently on lightening 2.2 with nimphetamine 2.04 kernal. More than happy with my battery. I get more than a days use out of it quite easily, battery loss is about 1% an hour in standby and the rom itself is very stable. Ive never had a force close, reboot or anything. Im using the steel blue theme too as i like the look of the icons more.
Ive no plans to try any other roms until a fully released cynagen rom is available which i will try, just to see what the fuss is about more than anything.
any ideas how close we are to a stable cm7 release?

I would also like to know.
A VillainROM user here along with ninphetamine kernel I find this the best combination, battery life is awesome and the devs are useful. It's smooth fast and just well top notch.
I've tried many roms but always come back to VR. The best thing to do is try them and find one for your own liking there are dozens to choose from now. In the future I'll try CM7 as I used to run that on my DHD but as of now I'm happy with the TW roms.

Batista70 ROM w/ Ninpo's 2.0.5 kernel here, so far so good. Runs smooth and quite battery-friendly.
I've used Lite'ning also but somehow the I've run into some battery drain issues with it before. Eye'ing CM7 once it gets a stable release.
The latest CM7 nightly, 13, is running really well, it all seems just as it was on my Desire so far, no crashes, just a lockscreen hang every now and again.
Don't know about the Bluetooth audio as I prefer a wired headset.

I've had this thread subscribed since the beginning and today I just desided to share my experience with CM

Post what rom you're on and the reason for it!

I noticed many people who keep asking which rom is the best for battery life, etc....I'm sure that I am not alone in this, when I say that its really annoying. So to solve that problem. I've created this thread :]
I am really sorry for not including many other roms. I only picked on the roms which were at the top 2 pages in the original android dev and the android dev.
Again, I'm really sorry, but as I told another person, you are still more than welcome to talk about it and tell us why you chose that rom
Instructions:
1. Post your rom name.
2. Post which kernel you are using.
3. Why you like it
Optional:
1. What theme you are using.
2. Case
I'll start the thread off:
I'm using CheckROM RevoHD™ V6.
I am using the SpeedMod SGS2 [K2-21 kernel.
I like this rom because of the stability and the battery life. I also really love the kitchen which gives you the endless amount of flexibility to customize your rom the way you want to!
I am using the Ice Cream Sandwich Domination 2.0.3 Godlike!
I am using the SUPERGETS case which I purchased from AmazonUK for £1.70.
PS: Anybody who has a problem with this thread being here can leave right now. I never asked to click on this thread, did I now? (This message is to the people who created the "useless" tags..)
Why don't you have stock rom option?
I'm using stock XXKH3 because it does not restart my phone when on wifi (unlike KL1, KL3, haven't had time and patience to try others). It's stable ant that's what I need.
For kernel, I chose Syah v2.6.12 because of undervolting/underclocking abilities and I run [email protected] UV with battery (2000MAh) lasting for 4 days (and nights) with some light usage.
On top of that I've got GoLauncher for easier customization.

Really sorry about the stock not being on the list. But you can still talk about it. And if you don't mind me saying...That is amazing battery life I get through the day with my stock battery, so I'm not going to complain But 4 days? That is simply amazing!
Have a nice day mate :]

CheckROM RevoHD™ V6.
Speedmod Kernel K2-21
Shade of Dusk Theme
Samsung Mesh Case
IMO CheckRom is quite simply the best all round ROM for this phone, it is exceptionally smooth and fast with zero bugs (that i have found anyway) and coupled with Speedmod kernel offers superb battery life, plus the Kitchen Pro allows you to customize your ROM the way you want, ive been using CheckRom since it's inception and i cant see me using anything else barring ICS.
You haven't included Rebel ROM in the poll list.
Using Rebel ROM with Siyah Kernel because of its battery life and the SE Launcher.
Hands down has to be Checkrom v6. Using NEAK kernel and both are match made in heaven. Best rom on GB. Regarding ICS. I have to say cm9 will be my next rom once that is stable. But knowing what Leo and GC will do once they get their hands on the official ICS stuff now that will be one hard choice to make..Hopefully the dualboot project might come to effect by then
Ps what Jonny said above i could not have put it any better..Well said mate
cyanogen mod9

because its freaking fast smooth and has incredible battery life

Sorry if I may come off sounding rude or anything. But is dual booting really that useful? I mean sure you can boot into miui and cm9 or cm7. But is it really that important? Or is it just a feature that you would like to have because it sounds and looks cool?
Would really appreciate if you could shed some light on this subject!
Thank you and have a good day.
1. Checkrom V6
2. CF Root LA4
3. Best balance of battery life and performance, sure other kernels can give better results on the battery side but I've got a 2000mah battery and charge nightly. Just everything works well with stock kernel. Will try out RedPill over the weekend.
4. Vert's ICS from Kitchen app,
5. SGP Neo Hybrid EX in black rotated with Sena leather pouch when I'm on my feet all day and need all body protection.

Samsung has comfirmed that it will come out on Q1, and Miui v4 are coming on 29 Feb so people are rumoring that it will come on 1st March.
If ICS will come out I will probably use the original one since I have a big problem with touchwiz, it hurt my eyes
hi
using- krinyo xwla4 slimrom + phenomenal 4.0 extreme.
why because i tried many roms and this gives no fc is smooth fast and the kernel is for battery life. developer support this rom and is very helpful. if u go to his threa u can see that are not 100000 post in wich many user complain about errors or other things. i think u dont need many words just try it and u will be amazed.
and put this rom in poll too.
currently using stock LPH with its own kernel, the only thing i modified is the modem which is LP6
after i tried ICS i couldnt go back to GB so with my current setup im getting awesome battery life, no fcs so im pretty happy with it

Well in a perfect world for me it would be nice to have access to two roms that i enjoy instead of restoring and backing up and reflashing. As you say it is a feature that sounds and looks cool but i am pretty sure we shall not see the light off. Yeah it might be possible and i think few devs have already tried it but it really has not taken off. It was more of a figure of speech i used it mate. Like i said it would of been great to use both ICS checkrom and cm9 as dualboot but that is a if and but...
So like i said best rom for me at the moment is checkrom as you can see from my sig. hope this clarifies a bit more
Checkrom v6
Darkknight 2.5.2
I flash a new firmware every 2nd day but I always go back to Checkrom and Darkknight because Checkrom is amazing with its kitchen etc and all other kernels like siyah, neak or redpill drain my battery in about 6-10 hours while on Darkknight I can use the handy for about 24 hours. Same usage. Maybe those devs could take a look at what Darkknight does right.... But I think it's really frustrating to be excited to flash a new kernel which praises "best battery" and after some hours your phone turns off.....

[Q] recommend a ROM for speed and performance

I'm going through all the ROM's and its overwhelming so I'm asking for help. I'm looking for speed, performance, visual updated that also doesn't make me lose 4g, wifi, blue tooth or anything else major.
Please recommend any ROM's that might fit for me. I am rooted with clockwork mod recovery v5.0.2.2 with flashed supersonic_nolimit06-v101_020112 ROM.
thanks!
In my experience, I think that the stock setup works best. Maybe bump up the transition speed in Spare Parts.

My battery died so quickly with the stock setup, not to mention visually its not appealing. I've also have experienced less drag time with this recent rom. thanks though
I am having a good time with jamieg71 kwiq rom. Also decks 1.3d is good. If you can wait a bit longer we should be seeing a reloaded decks rom by jamieg71. Can't wait!!! Haha
SOS is great since its Sense 1.0 and based off the 4.67 update from Sprint. (Latest I think) so everything works and its definitely a visually appealing ROM. swagstr does great work, I'm running SOS X with ca1nes underworld kernel with SBC for a more complete charge. And with very heavy use I get roughly 8 hours. (I use my phone, for the phone lol.) Lots of good choices. Best thing to do is flash one and keep it for a couple of days and if it doesn't seem to fit your needs, try another. I tried many, but I keep going back to Swagged Out Stock.

Plenty of AOSP ROMs have a great combination of speed and performance, especially if you use a custom kernel.
I noticed you didn't say "features". There are a lot of decent Sense ROMs that are a lot more generous with their features than the tweaky DIY world of AOSP, many of them plenty fast...

Swagged out stock N (the one with the go launcher) with lionfish kernel (I use aggressive), with smartassv2 as your governor, is likely to be the fastest out there. It has a lot of performance optimizations that AOSP roms typically don't match.

ics rom issues

so ive been runnning ics roms for awhile now (since one of the first functioning cm9 builds were out), and im not new to flashing. but im a little unsure what i should be running that will fit my needs the best. im running slimics 3.7 right now with its stock kernel, and its great, if you get rid of their 'stock launcher' and change the screen settings, i just feel like i could be getting more. ive heard wonderful things about dark knights rom, but havent had a good experience and i dont know if its due to me flashing improperly. i started out on icssgs and it did me well....i just find slim a but of a step above (my opinion of course). but i find slim releases their updates before many apps become available to it. im just a regular user, i use facebook and web alot, and of course text, and camera, i also desire as much battery life as possible (of course) while running the best performance with what i need. Are there any suggestions for me out there for a rom/kernel combination?
