[Q] recommend a ROM for speed and performance - EVO 4G General

I'm going through all the ROM's and its overwhelming so I'm asking for help. I'm looking for speed, performance, visual updated that also doesn't make me lose 4g, wifi, blue tooth or anything else major.
Please recommend any ROM's that might fit for me. I am rooted with clockwork mod recovery v5.0.2.2 with flashed supersonic_nolimit06-v101_020112 ROM.
thanks!

In my experience, I think that the stock setup works best. Maybe bump up the transition speed in Spare Parts.

My battery died so quickly with the stock setup, not to mention visually its not appealing. I've also have experienced less drag time with this recent rom. thanks though

I am having a good time with jamieg71 kwiq rom. Also decks 1.3d is good. If you can wait a bit longer we should be seeing a reloaded decks rom by jamieg71. Can't wait!!! Haha

SOS is great since its Sense 1.0 and based off the 4.67 update from Sprint. (Latest I think) so everything works and its definitely a visually appealing ROM. swagstr does great work, I'm running SOS X with ca1nes underworld kernel with SBC for a more complete charge. And with very heavy use I get roughly 8 hours. (I use my phone, for the phone lol.) Lots of good choices. Best thing to do is flash one and keep it for a couple of days and if it doesn't seem to fit your needs, try another. I tried many, but I keep going back to Swagged Out Stock.

I think we all are looking for the same thing. That why we are flashoholics....

Ok guys i have the perfect rom for you, just like Hockeytown1970 said 4 kornerz is the rom 4 u.It has speed, smoothness, working 4G,3G,bluetooth,wifi hotspot and tethering mod and very customizable and it has beats audio mod, anthrax kernel and volume+ to kick that sound up. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1612933

Plenty of AOSP ROMs have a great combination of speed and performance, especially if you use a custom kernel.
I noticed you didn't say "features". There are a lot of decent Sense ROMs that are a lot more generous with their features than the tweaky DIY world of AOSP, many of them plenty fast...

Swagged out stock N (the one with the go launcher) with lionfish kernel (I use aggressive), with smartassv2 as your governor, is likely to be the fastest out there. It has a lot of performance optimizations that AOSP roms typically don't match.

Still a buggy phone!!

The Nexus S is quite possibly the best but most frustrating phone I've ever had. I love the hardware and the android OS. I still get random reboots, sometimes sms notifications never show up, and sometimes when I get a phone call the phone becomes unresponsive.
I've been using the latest NSCollab rom for several versions and have never over/under clocked. I clear the dalvik cache after every update and clear data/restore with titanium backup whenever necessary.
I'll feel like I've been doing everything correctly, yet I'm still left with a phone that gives me a lot of grief. What's the problem here? How can I fix this? This is extremely frustrating with no obvious solution.
I had a lot of problems with the nexus s... Now i have a galaxy sii, but i still have the nexus. Using the nscollab, i had a looooot of problems, now the phone are with the stock 2.3.4, in my tests, everything is fine. I will sell it now.

I don't know what kernel that rom uses but that and settings on voltages make the whole difference in stability. Something like stock rom with stock kernel or cm7 with stock or netatchys kernel are always good choices and will give you stability.
Just IMHO

I believe NSCollab is Cm7 with netarchy and the stock gingerbread launcher -- nothing crazy here.

NSCollab 1.0.35
Android : GB 2.3.4
System : CyanogenMod 7.1 [RC1] [CM Team]
Kernel : Netarchy CFS 1.3.4 [Netarchy]
Truth of the matter is that I've yet to come across a ROM that's rock solid. I've tried them all and always had either lots of random reboots, bootloops, or sluggishness.
I went back to stock last Thursday and it's been butter smooth since. No problems or anything of the sort.

That's both good and bad news. Good news: there's a fix. Bad news: I really like some of CM7's features, but I guess it must go.
I'll give the stock rom a shot I guess.

The Oxygen ROM is very stable aswell.
i tried several roms, but after all i came back to stock, it is stable and fast.. I do miss many features from cm7, but i guess i can live without it.
currently i'm trying to find a kernel with a battery life as good as stock one... i really miss bln ...
All I'm saying look into your voltage settings. Each phone will work different and you have to play with adjusting them. It also takes some time and patience.

no ROM I've tried has ever compared to stock, especially 2.3.4, when it comes to stability.
I tried Many ROMs but all before 2.3.4 (end of April?) and none was able to run for more than a few days without some kind of reboot/bootloop etc.
2.3.4 has been running flawlessly ever since.
Current uptime is like 1100+ hrs and that too cause i had to remove battery to change SIM card.
Hi,
I have installed NSCollab 1.0.35 on a week and have not problems on my Nexus S.
To resume, i had some endless bootloop and a lot of reboot on long calls.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
My 2 cents:
I'm on NSCollab 1.0.34, Netharky 1.3.4, KB3, OV to 1.2 Ghz, UV with protonvoltage. Gingerbread 2.3.4
I find this combo much faster than the stock one, smooth and pretty stable. Actually I have some reboots when I stress a lot my device, but they are rare.
So I don't want to renounce to Cyanogen features as the stock rom was really slow IMHO and I will give a try to NSCollab 1.0.35 very soon!
No problems in answering, good radio performance, faster than light (quadrant score: 3600) !! I can survive with a couple of reboot in a week!!
Too much porn?

Why don't you people stop confusing CM7 with a stable ROM? CyanogenMod and netarchy kernel are probably the most crappy android software that were ever made.
I suggest you use Oxygen ROM and Jame Bond kernel. No fancy quadrant benchmarks, stock ROM with basic functions like notification power control and text reflow in browser, zipaligned and all that stuff. Delete setcpu, delete juicedefender and other crappy so called battery savers, do not undervolt and do not touch the CPU frequency. Just let the ROM run like it is supposed to, don't fill it with all the bloatware you find on market that is said to increase performance or battery life, all they do is eating system resources.
I have yet to find a better combination like this for the nexus S, I am using the ROM since 3 days now without a single reboot/FC/freeze/bootloop. I am playing order and chaos MMO 2-3 hours and I can go through the full day without problems, the phone is responsive and simply works, no fancy sh*t.
Using the stock, all is fine..

Aosp battle!

Now, I know that cyanogenmod is probably the most popular of all the aosp roms however, that's irrelevant because this is about the evo, not other phones. So, in your own words, which rom is the best aosp rom for the evo? Excluding miui, because that's a different sort of aosp.
Thanks.

Decks Rom to me is the best due to being so much cleaner and faster. The way it runs on my phone is amazing. Battery life. Performance. Just flawless for an aosp

I tried SalvageMod, didn't care for it since I got FC's and there doesn't seem to be much updates.
I have gone between CM7 and Decks a lot. So much lately that I am driving myself nuts. I want to stick with one.
I like Decks because it is a slimmer version and runs better. It also doesn't have as much misc. stuff/apps with it.
I like CM7 because of the nightlies, which also gives me headaches because I am always flashing, then if something sucks I go back to a previous version, sometimes having to wipe, etc.
I am most likely going to end up sticking with Decks since it runs better for me, and so I don't get the urge to try out a new nightly. LOL
I am not aware of any other AOSP ROM.
Lets face it, if it werent for CM7 we wouldnt have most of the AOSP roms for this phone that we do. DECKS is the best IMO. Its CM7 but tailored specifically for the EVO. Its VERY NOTICEABLY faster. More clean. Cant go wrong with it.
My phone has never run better than with SalvageMod! Even Decks which held that place previously. There are some features that I miss but haven't looked back for a second.
Lithid is an incredible Dev, and has produced a unique build of AOSP that will stand out from the rest. He also supports it directly, meaning you will hear from HIM if you ask a question.
I have tried cm7, decks, savaged zen and OMGB. None have quite the edge of SalvageMod. However, OMGB would be my second choice but I like something a bit more custom.

I tried cm7 a while back and it was just OK for me( no disrespect, just my opinion). After playing around with a whole lot of sense roms I'm now looking for something a little different for a while...so I'm also interested in the slickest aosp rom.

I see what you did there.
I tried Salvage Mod briefly, but there were some little details that bugged me; the notification pulldown located at the bottom of the screen, lack of Theme Chooser, and a couple other minor settings not available.
It's the small details that makes or breaks a rom for me. Deck passes all the tests, and runs much better on my particular phone than the full CM 7.1
Homage and gratitude are definitely due to cyanogen.. Without his team, we wouldn't have many of the improvements available to us.

I agree, cm7 is a very fast rom. GPS is weird at times. But can't argue with speed. I still use salvagemod tho simply for the simple things that are different.

Its a toss up, using Decks rom atm but with any AOSP rom I get bad wifi reception unless I am right next to my modem. That's the only thing I can say for Sense roms is that the wifi connection is better, at least in my case.
I'll admit, I was a huge CM Fanboy and deservedly so it's probably one of the most developed and feature laden ROMs available. MIUI never appealed to me. But, there was always something wonky happening then once most of the bugs were ironed out and I actually used it often enough I got tired of ADW.
I started flashing frank707's .zip that removed some of the extra apps and especially ADW and replaced it with launcher2. Then Deck came along and did it for me with an even more optimized ROM. Somewhere along the way I flirted with SalvageMod 1.2.1 but had some stability issues that were caused by the SavagedZen kernel that I stupidly blamed the ROM for. Flash forward to last week, I finally tried out SalvageMod 1.4 and gave it an honest chance and I think it's probably one of the most well developed and stable/fast ROMs that I've tried so far. It's different from CM based ROMs if that's what you're used to but it's simplicity is actually refreshing. There's some features that I'd like to have added but it's nothing that makes the ROM unusable.
I say give SM 1.4 a real chance, I don't think that it (or the devs for that matter) get the recognition deserved.

[Q] So what ROM is the best in your opinion for the Shift?

Sorry if this question has been asked a million times haha. But I'm just curious about the perks or other ROMs, most especially for battery life since I'm out and about most the time. I have tried CM7 and Miui when they were still new to the shift but just settled down with Mikshift because I love the simple sense roms haha. But ever since I rooted my friends HTC Glacier a couple days ago my mind just became a curious george lol. I know I can just read the threads but I want to know why the person uses that rom....thanks in advance!
Kushdeck with tiamat kernel seems really good so far. No issues and battery life is great. Also the phone is smooth.

but i hear nothin but good things about CM7 which u wont hear anything good from me due to i personally like the Sense UI.
I also enjoyed playing on a MIUI rom due to the high customization you can do with it.

No doubt if u want raw performance without care for ui. Use cyanogen. I had cyanogen for a bit, and could notice the speed.
But I lovee sense, so I'm usin mik g supreme currently I think it runs just as well as regular mikg but u get 3d widgets/rosie...
If we ever get the src for the kernel from htc mikroms would improve performance greatly. Id say I'm more than satisfied with the stock kernel with sense 3.0

Depends on what your going to use it for, business, personal, or both. How heavy a phoneaholic you are ( I'm REALLY BAD ) . But one thing is definate, we have plenty of choices .

Honestly for me it's a toss up between CyanogenMod and MikShifted-G. Cm has the raw performance while MS-G has the stability & reliability. Currently I'm using MS-G. It was a little quirky at first, but when I got the V6Supercharger and 98KickAssKernelTweaks scripts installed the UI became just as snappy if not more then cm. Just wish HTC would release the damn kernel source already.

Although Mikshifted-G is also a really good ROM also if you don't want that 3.0 rosie and want to save a little speed, but mikshifted g has a couple little bugs. Synergy is good has a few nice features too. Idk ima sense kindof guy. BTW: Anyone know how to put smilies in on XDA Premium? Just started using it in celebration to full root

True, but not always a good thing. I downgraded and rooted my shift yesterday, and I'm running into the same problem that I had when I first switched to linux on my desktop back in 2000. There are so many choices that I can be tough to narrow it down to what you really want.
Overall, I thought Sense was a bit overdone, so I've been enjoying CM7-nightly for the moment, but there are a small handfull of features I REALLY miss from Sense like T9 in the dialer, and the FriendStream widget & app.
This is really a subjective question. You will get different responses from different people.
Personally I have tried all roms available for the Shift and I always seem to go back to MIUI. In terms of customization, MIUI has virtually limitless UI options. It allows you to really make your phone unique. At first I really did not like the fact that it resembles crApple UI. But after I gave it a try I was hooked. I've haven't been on any other rom for more than a week after trying MIUI. With the Tiamat kernel my battery has lasted more than 2days with medium use.
I also liked Mik G. Its a very good rom. But I just got tired of sense lol. I do think that Sense is the best Manufacturer pushed UI though.
Like someone before me said if you want raw performance CM7 is great. The UI is just not as "pretty" as some others.
I had good performance with ShiftDeck as well. Basically similar to CM7 with a few tweaks and changes.
I suggest trying all the different roms and see which one you enjoy, thats what really matters.
Happy Flashing!

Legendary rom is what I'm running, stable, and everything works
Ever since I picked up my Epic at launch I've missed Cyanogen from my G1. While it isn't perfect in its current state I can't imagine using anything else. It's responsive, it's lean, and it extended my battery life by about four hours when I installed it. There's a list that doesn't work at the moment (911 emergency calls, 4G, several video codecs including Youtube HQ, video recording) but the things that work are fantastic.
I was about to jump to Verizon for a different device, but with the breath that Cyanogen gave my Epic I'm going to ride it out.
I've been using CleanGB since Build13, and have been loving the stability and battery life. I am currently running Build 17 with the Talkback Fix (which is, in effect, Build 18)...

I fully intend the remainder of my phones on contract life to be spent with either Nils Business GingerSense 3.5 or (my currently installed rom) Warm TwoPointThree. I missed out on Warm TwoPointTwo and all it's heyday so I'm fully enjoying my first ever run with the Warm series.

I never have had a good experience with sense 3.0+ roms, too slow and I dont want to overclock although some of the roms are built really well. AOSP is really nice on our old hardware and always runs clean.

I have to say, I've grown to enjoy what Sense 3.5 has to offer.
Side note, I think my next android phone will spend its life on AOSP either because:
A) it's a Nexus device
B) I rooted/installed an AOSP rom

Yea sense 3.5 is REALLY great but also is REALLY laggy but overall I find it to be one if the best too.

I'm on Inc-Deck-GB myself, I guess that probably answers the question.
with special props to SkyRaider 4.+... that was the best sense ROM. I would still use it if it had ever got updated to Gingerbread.
I've never tried MikG, Downloading and flashing tonight ^.^ hows the battery life? What kernel do you use etc? My personal fav has always been CM7
Cm7 loyalist no doubt. It gives the best performance, support, and customization of any rom. When I get a new phone, ill be shopping on the base of roms, and cm7 support is a must.

same here, love CM7. With heavy customization from android kitchen and other apps I'm loving my phone and don't have any urge to try other ROMs (maybe a bad thing?)
Sense always gave my phone a little more bloat, no matter how small it was, I'm still all for faster and leaner so that's why I've been stuck to CM7.
Just loaded up MikG and its booted, but its at the mikmikmik wallpaper, and no unlock screen, i can see the battery, time 3g and signal bar though..

Same happened to me on that rom a few times. I got it booted on my first flash but after that, none.
If you want a fun rom to play around with I suggest anyone of the super stock AOSP roms i.e. OMGB/Bugless Beast. What better way to customize than to start with the bare bones.
MIUI with my WP7 customizations runs like a boss. I underclock to 245/128 when I listen to music only and it runs as maybe a 700 MHz Sense rom would, while getting maybe days of battery.
I'm using Stock Plus with a bunch of themes I blended together. My favorite ROM of all time was WarmZ though. What I would give to have it in Gingerbread form... its what's in my sig actually.

ended up with MIUI
My first flash in the rooting game was McTwist. I enjoyed it but wanted to try something else. I switched to Nils Business GingerSense with sense 3.0 and loved his design and the smoothness. Something happened where after a few weeks my phone became unstable tho. Could have been my kernel or my phone or even the charger I was using since apps crashed when plugged in. I then decided to get away from sense roms and tried MIUI 1.12.9. It's smooth and doesn't seem to have that sense bloat. I flashed the latest incredikernel and have been loving the ROM since. It has custom themes which is great for me. I also find myself using the stock dialer,SMS, and camera instead of searching for an after market app. The only thing I didn't like was the homescreens and the launcher so I just use launcherpro and everything looks good.
So as a recap:
McTwist was good
Nils Business GingerSense was great but caused phone problems for me
Sticking with MIUI for now

I can see how the lag puts people off from Sense 3.5. I haven't run into the issue cuz I use ADW Ex (proudly purchased for .10 cents awhile back) and I just go about my business.

I believe it. Probably my personal favorite moment to be a member of XDA was when we first had the GingerSense leak last May. Development just shot through the roof for Sense 2.1+ roms. Sense 2.1 is the sweet spot.
