[Q] Epic 4G Boot Issues - Epic 4G General

Please help in anyway that you can. I was attempting to root my Epic for ACS recovery using Odin. Odin initially picked up on my device but when I hit start it failed. Then I tried a different port, cable, and took out the sd and now my phone wont start and it has a graphic showing a phone connected to the computer with a yellow sign in the middle.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Pull battery for a couple minutes. Reboot into download and try again... if that don't work many people have had success by pulling their battery and plugging it into computer with battery out and booting into download without the battery in. Never tried this but many people on xda have said that it works! Hope you get it working again

if that fails, pull out the full EC05 odin using repartition and run that. then go back to ICS and go again... make sure that when you are rooting using odin, do not select repartition...

Phone will not go into DL mode

I don't get it. When i try and get my vibrant into dl mode using this method -
Step 1.) Open Odin.exe and plug a usb cable to your computer that will connect to your phone (do not plug it in to the phone yet, just the computer)
Step 2.) *Added this: Power off your phone before trying to get into download mode, and then....*
Hold down both volume buttons at the same time and while holding them down plug the usb into your phone.
- all that happes is a green battery bar comes up. Tried it on my roommates vibrant and it went straight into dl mode. WTF?
*EDIT - Phone is rooted and running the factory rom. I'm trying to install the JI6 update found here

I really don't understand why its so hard for people to get into DL mode.
Unless your soft bricked you don't need to go through all these steps.
'adb reboot download ' in adb is all you need to do.

It's hard for me because i don't know much about command lines and such. I'm still new to this. My buddy is over here and he finally got it into dl mode by doing adb. So we're at least started
and now i'm soft bricked...
Do You have the samsung drivers installed to use odin ?
Still flashing , thanks to odin & tw

Well now you know, my friend.
It's really not hard to learn how to use ADB.
If you plan on messing around with your phone, you should definitely familiarize yourself with it.

yeah, i installed the drivers last night along with odin. we were using odin to install the JI6 update and it stopped midway. the fact that we can only ude adb to get into download mode is frustrating since windows no longer recognizes my phone
Yeah I'm not familiar with adb enough to advise but you should be able to find what you need on this site if I find anything I think can help I'll post back good luck man
Still flashing , thanks to odin & tw

VooDoo bricked me, can't fix with Odin?

ok guys, i have unbricked my vibrant before after the OTA update about 5 weeks ago. i am pretty new at this smart phone stuff, but was pleasantly surprised i was able to get odin to fix the brick. about an hour ago i launched the stupid VooDoo in the OCLF app and the phone now will go as far as the animated galaxy "S", then go blank. i attempted the Odin flash about 5 times now with the same result each time, just boots up past the vibrant screen to galaxy S then goes blank. when the phone restarts or reboots after the odin flash a message in red reads DATA WIPE FAILED between a few yellow text lines. when i try to reinstall packages through boot screen i get the same message i got after the OTA brick, E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip now the phone was rooted with the OCLF before i launched VooDoo. can somebody help me out?!?
Odin back to stock. That should fix it.

Anybody else have an suggestions?? like i said in OP i have tried to flash back to stock, about 5-6 times now, all with the same result. phone goes blank after galaxy S screen and music. thanks
As mentioned in a million threads, you need to flash Eugene's "froyo that doesn't brick." Then flash whatever firmware you want.
flashed the froyo successfully from eugene. cool set up, major issue though, i have no application storage now. there are a ton of apps in manage apps and i cannot uninstall any of them. can i fix this somehow??
i'm going to try flashing froyo back in it so it works, not select repartition. then restart odin, select repartition and flash the old vj12 rar and see if that works
Never seemed to get the answer to this. What is the purpose of "Eugene's froyo that doesn't brick?"
Why do some people suggest flashing that, before they odin?
Did eugene take everything down from xda, I can't even find that anymore.
i actually found what i though was the froyo that doesn't brick but it was actually his jk2 version. i clicked Eugene's link on one of his posts and it took me to his site and thats were i got it. i did some searching and actually found the "froyo that doesn't brick", it fixed my baby! i couldn't do anything once flashed but i was then able to flash back to jdf then j16 and all is well. i have flashed like 10 roms into her since this weekend with success, i am back to running j16 with some extras as the games i play don't support 2.2
I'm trying to use Odin but my pc (win xp) is not recognizing my phone. Should i try another pc with vista or win7?

When i'm in download mode, it doesn't recognize it. When i'm in recovery mode, Odin recognizes it. If i turn my phone on and plug it in, my pc recognizes it, drivers are ok.
Any answers, i could really use the help
what version of Odin are you running? not that it should matter. try pulling the batt, hold volume up and down, insert batt while volume buttons are pressed then plug in USB and wait for it to go into download mode then release buttons. see if Odin recognizes it then.
try a different cable too if above doesn't work
Turn your phone off open odin hold down volume up and down, now plug in the usb this will get you into dl mode now you need to flash Froyo ~~~That does not Brick! rom with odin. Right after you flash that get back into download mode open odin first then with the phone ( power the phone off give it a min, hold down the volume up and down keys, now insert the usb cord BAM download mode) flash back to whatever rom you want.
Hey I'm not so tech sabby could you help wit steps to do the same cuz kind of have same prob. With voodoo

[Q] how do i fix my phone when it froze during update

i was trying to update my epic 4g to 2.3.3 efo2 and it froze at factoryfs.rfs any help i had to unplug and take battery out for phone to shut off and when i turn on it shows a phone and a computer with a caution sign in the middle any way i can go back to factory settings or does anyone know were i can get that eb13 update that samsung let use dl from there website because that software also flashed the phone and helped me before when i screwed up my phone any help would be great
Can you bring download mode up again? Did you try to odin it again? Maybe try changing out the USB cable, especially if you are using the stock cable, it sucks.
For further help with odin, qbking77 has very helpful videos with a link in his signature.

if you can still get into dl mode i would suggest trying the odin again with a different cable or put the ef02 tar in pda if you put it in phone. or try to odin in the stock ec05 tar
You could try a friends computer...or a different usb port.
Also try it with the battery out. Plug into computer, push 1 key and power to get into download mode, then start Odin. Make sure only reboot and PDA is checked with EF02 tar file in PDA section.

Even after removing the battery and trying from USB power? Have you tried different cables/ports/computers?
man i try every possible configuration (done flashing a lot never have problems before cm7 i always was able to go back with odin)
It was a bad connection... biggest give away was the color...wait a solid color right? Like everything went blank and it turned orange? If so then its your cable use a different cable....
Also did you have repartition check as well as auto reboot?
Not to be that guy but better me than some jacka** but this posted in the wrong section should be in q&a

Leave the battery out for a while like an hour or so and then try it again....
But it could be the cable keeping it from going into download mode cuz its bad

Keep trying all the suggestions. Sometimes it just gets picky. Try it without a battery and with a new cable.
i have had this too
I have had this too in green, blue, and red before. I have been always been able to fix it by waiting with sdcard and battery out and trying it later.

People have had success by popping battery in and out several times and simultaneously trying to get into download mode.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
You're attempting to put it in download mode *before* connecting the cable, right?
that helped im in download mode
thanks kennyglass123
As VassagoX suggested in his posts I have had luck a number of times where I cannot get into download mode on a failed odin flash until I try with no battery in the phone and usb into pc.
1) remove battery, leave it out.
2) start odin on pc
3) plug usb into pc, and phone
4) hold 1, hit power (still no battery) to go into download mode.
Glad you were able to get it working. Figured I'd throw this out there again in case it can help anyone else.

[Q] ICS Update not working =(

hi guys
so i hooked up my n7000 up to kies via my mac. updated in progress then all of a sudden i get an error thru kies saying that the program had an error and to restart
on my phone it says "Downloading...do not turn off target!!"
for the past 3 hours.......
wut can i do without bricking my phone?? =(
never been rooted or anything!! please help!
well, there is nothing you can do but.
1. wait for it to wake up (doubt it) and the battery runs out
2. turn it off and hopefully it boots back up
No progres bar? Than you are lijeky to be fine, kies probably lost connection. Retart phone and computer and try again.
At own risk of course

As he said if theres no green progress bar you may be lucky and it may not have started the flash. The 'downloading...' message is a bit missleading. Pull the battery and give it another go. but it does sound a little risky. If it does that midflash :'( reboot the pc and make sure nothing else can interupt and make sure the usb is giving a clean reliable connection. Fluff in the port?
guys the phone just stayed in download mode and never disconnected the Kies on PC FC's so he doesn't a problem just us Odin and flash it mate you wont have a hard brick download the firmware there are several posts here with links or just goto sammobile and get it there download and flash thats all you have to do...
this is probably the most thing i hate about cables and PC (SH!T)
good luck.
hey everyone
yep thanks for the info!
what actually happened was i just took the risk and did a hard reset (aka battery pull) and after some time it started to resume the download after i hooked up back to my mac! so luckily everything eventually turned out ok! =) thanks for all the help!!
