[Q] Battery cover removal/reinstall rating - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Guys,
As the needs for extra juice without "downgrading" features, with preference to maintain slim profile for the handset, looks like an additional battery is a must.
Coming from Streak, the flimsy battery cover design for Note is new to me. It seems that it had exactly the same design as SGS 2, which I never owns. Streak's battery cover is made of metal, and if done carefully, battery cover removal/reinstallation in daily basis won't harm it.
Any ideas on Note's battery cover?

It's quite strong, I wouldn't worry about it:

not very difficult to remove. i just yank out the stylus and use the little corners there to get a few clicks off, then i just take it off from there.

the covers are very cheap anyways.

WHO-EVER says anything/comments about the SGS2 or Note's back cover I will just reply with that video. Just the link. Nothing more.
On a second thought I might even drop a line, like: "It might be cheap, but it's more durable than many phones as a whole."

Why do you think you need an extended battery on this phone?
I can use mine for two days of solid use without it dying.

I have both devices. The back plate will wear well.
Removal is easy on both, but reattaching is easier on the Note. You have to start at the bottom and work your way up to get all the fasteners to click properly. I've needed to remove it and restart on occasion with the SGSII. Not a huge deal but with the note, you can just put it in place and start mashing it down. No worries.

Thanks. But the fasteners, do they ever get loose or broken? On the plate or (hopefully not) the phone?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk

That would be very hard to do. The fasteners are on the plate, not the phone itself.
If you were to mangle something, you'd bend or crease a fastener. You could bend it back, or more severely, cut it off. There are enough fasteners where you could afford to loose one with minimal problems.

I always get the display to be the highest battery drain on my usage. It's almost 2-4 times of other components like Android OS, etc. So I'm not sure how I'm going to get longer uptime unless I stop using the screen -- which is the reason I bought it at the first place

Even more curiousing it seems that image attachments are resized

HELP: Battery stuck in DHD and won't slide out!

Man is this the stupidest problem ever...
The good news: I finally got my DHD yesterday...
The bad news: The battery cover is as bad as I've been hearing. For some reason I couldn't put it back on. So I pushed the Battery as far in as I could in order to put the cover on. The phone works great, but now the battery is stuck inside and won't slide out by itself and I don't know how to take it out
Please Help...
Put your fingers flat on the table, same width as the battery door.
Rest the DHD on your fingers (so that the battery door is facing the table.
Raise the DHD an inch or two and bring it down on your fingers (not so hard that it hurts).
Keep doing this, the battery will work its way free and drop onto the table.
I'll add a pic in a sec...
Thanks James, this definitely sounds very doable; I'm giving it a try now!
The battery has moved about half an inch now!! This is working *jumping up and down with joy*
I got the battery out!! Why does everyone else's battery just seem to slide out by itself? I thought it was because I pushed it too far in, but even when the battery is half way out, I still have to pull it out with some effort...
Maybe my phone just has a lot of "friction"? When I watch those YouTube videos, everyone seems to glide their fingers smoothly across the screen, but when I do it, it feels very fricative...do you guys put on hand lotion or something...
Do not press the screen too much, only a slightest touch is needed. Also if you have moist hands, it makes swiping the screen harder.

Probably because its a new phone. You have to play with it a little bit until the oil from your skin lubes up the screen. Then its all slidey slides.
I had a similar problem with my first DHD... part of the the plastic wrapper around the battery had folded back on itself along the forward edge of the battery. That caused the battery to get wedged inside. A little trimming of the plastic wrapper with a craft knife fixed it... YMMV

No you can't - the WiFi/BT antenna is in that cover .
would've given you some extra grip tho
Now seriously, if when u look at ur battery there's no visible flaws that u can safely and/or easily remove and if your screen keeps giving you the finger in my opinion you should return it for a replacement. There's been enough faulty hardware cases, the folks at HTC know the drill by now. If that's not an option, sell it on ebay ( or your local online market ) and grab a new one;]

[GUIDE] Soft reset button tool mod

Several minutes of filing the strong steel of the back cover in a proper place will yield you a perfect push pin for that tiny soft reset button under the hood.
........
What? Compare yours with the image.
How to use it? Open the lid and use this nib on it to depress the reset button.
is there any mod that allow you to hardreset without braking your hd2 casing?
i use with otterbox defender, and hard reset is a really tiring process, i dont want to drill a hole in my otter and hd2 backcasing
any other workaround?
i meann softreset (the yellow/red button thingie)

Huh! So that button is known as soft reset? Hmm. Okay, will try to change my post. By the way, I have the same Otterbox. Thinking of drilling a tiny hole for that. Never heard of a 3 finger solution for that (Android have it).

Never had a dead freezing situation?
Or you know of a 3 finger method?
regarding the 3 finger salute, i ask the same thing just now in a new thread, hope there is any way for this
???
Sorry but I don't get the point...
There is an App which performs a Softreset directly from the screen, which works in 90% of the situations. For the remainder I just open the case and use either a paperclip or a toothpick. Even a pencil or ballpen would do.
So I dont see any reason to mutilate my precious HD2. If I'm in a situation, where I dont find any tool at all, then I assume that I will be in such trouble, that a frozen HD2 will be last problem to care about. (situations like being kidnapped by Hannibal Lecter....)
Hugo the JungleDyret
If the phone is very regularly freezing, then I would look at what is causing the freezing rather than damaging the phone.
Damaging? Mutilate? C'mon ppl you aren't that soft minded! HD2 is a tool not a fetish!
I'm experimenting with the new software and playing with my own code while on the train to work often. So yes, it's freezing a lot for me down to irresponsive hardware buttons. And I know, why and who is at fault, thank you. However, it's still no fun to juggle with the open phone, it's back lid and also with some virtually always available pen or paper clip.
The fact is: "There is no paper clip around when you need it most." (c) Murphy's law.
Ah I see youve change the title now from "hard" to "soft" that makes a bit more sense but still cant really see any point in this. Infact is bloody useless, why on earth any sane person would want to carve a hold into their HD2 casing instead of just removing back and replacing battery is beyond me.
There is no mention of a reset by battery removal method in the user's manual. And there is a reason for that. Any sane person knowing a little about computer electronics must consider it a dangerous approach.
flimsy battery pins are a pretty good reason not to pull the battery on a regular basis.....
its possible to fit half a cocktail stick inside the back cover, on the patch of foam that rests on the battery for a handy environmentally friendly reset solution.

I know nothing, my phone is stock, and the battery was popped out 5+ times a day until I added some XDA magic.
Apparently you burn a spliff (everyone in n.cal is baked amirite?) and then spend waaaaay too much time overthinking this whole thing.
There is NO way any sane (sober) person would intentionally corrupt the pure and mathematically correct lines of the HD2...even the extended battery makes me ill.
Compared to the new phones, the HD2 is by far still the sleekest of them all.
no offense but wtf?
P.S. and I do luves me some ganny heady nuggz yo!

Post hinge-fix video!

A lot of people have been asking for a video of the end results - here it is!
LOL - I notice the audio doesn't quite match up with the video, Deal with it
Repair materials:
Currently the 5 pack of springs is out of stock - I ordered the 10 pack:
10 pack of springs
Small Phillips Screwdriver
Set of Safe Open Pry Tools
Void stickers for the squeamish

Follow until about 4:10 http://www.repairsuniverse.com/htc-tmobile-g2-take-apart-repair-guide.html :: Follow this video as you open up the insides of the phone; pause and review when necessary!

Wow!! Your hinge looks amazing! I just ordered the t5 screwdriver kit. Once I receive it, I will be attempting this.
I still need the springs, but I'm debating on ordering the 10 pack or not.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I wish there was a cheaper spring solution, I stretched mine, but it's still kinda loose. I don't have the $6 to spend on a spring, I had to search for change to get a T5 bit from Ace Hardware, and that was $2
Just a little update - after a day of full use, the phone seems more solid with the keyboard CLOSED; No wobbling at all. It really does feel like a one-piece device until you slide it open, and the clicking sound that the sliding makes really makes it feel good in the hand
Wow thanks for doing that and providing a link to the parts! My only gripe is that to get all the tools and parts, it will cost about $38. I wish we didnt have to spend that to get the phone to operate the way it was intended. Not to mention having to risk the phone not working because we had to take it completely apart.

The wobbling screen bothers me way more than the loose hinge, so much that the hinge doesn't bother me at all. I just don't understand why the screen can't sit flush to the base.

Phone power shuts off when tapped or bumped.

I just noticed a moment ago that when I tap my phone hard enough it turns off. For example sliding the kb open or setting it down on a table hard enough. I have to be real gentle with it now. And I have never been very rough with it its in great condition. I dropped it once on carpet a few months ago. But that's it. I have 2 batteries and I switch them out every other day. Could that have something to do with it? I really do not want to goto the sprint store and have the look at it because ill have to flash back to stock and deal with their lines and annoying staff. Anyone know what I can do to fix this issue?

^^ I agree
However, take a look at your battery contacts. One of my 3 is noticeably bent "differently" but not necessarily broken than the other 2 (although it's NEVER lost contact even in a fall). Maybe it's not maintaining the tension it needs to keep the connection.

your right I did pay alot for this phone and it should work properly without ghetto rigging it. It actually stopped for now idk what did it, I tried a number of things including pressing the battery in harder and that may of solved it, but I bet it does it again one day. plus I wouldnt mind having a brand new one if thats what they would do to fix it lol
That happened to me a couple times, but it was the extended batteries and thus generic cover that doesn't fit well to begin with.

Then don't cover the whole battery. Use a small strip runnin diagionaly and fasten it to back cover is it don't move around when u drop your phone again.
Try a little peice of paper in between the batt and the wall of batt hole.
Epoxy your battery in place.
Or u can stop abusing your phone.

Not anymore than sitting on my hip. Paper is an insulator so actually would help in Florida sun. But my issue is a $21 extended battery and extended back, not stock. So a small piece of cardboard helps to keep it really tight. Also probably because I have dropped my phone a few times.

LMAO!!!! Nice...think I will download a flowers jpg for my phone now.
My first epic did this. It's a manufacturing problem. I took it back and sprint replaced it. (I returned it the day after I bought it, though).
I have had this happen to me and all I did was flash a different rom. It seemed to be a had flash or the rom I was using. That is assuming you are rooted and running a custom rom. Give it a try. Flash something else and see if the problem goes away. Mine did.
I was on my way into the sprint store as I was restoring a different rom and after restoring i could not reproduce the power down when bumping or sliding keyboard. That's how I figured out it had to be the rom. I have not had it happen since, that was 5 months ago.

Ive had my desire s for less than 2 months and ive had to leave it back for this reason. The slightest of taps to the bottom right corner and off it goes.

Here I have a 100% fix for the galaxy note 4 emmc error and random reboots,
Including unable to unlock phone, deep sleep issues, and random behaviour.
Also fixes overheating and battery issues as well as makes GearVR work without heating issues.
This is a hardware fix and so far has been 100% effective on all devices I have repaired,
Its an easy repair and takes about 20 to 30 minutes to complete.
No special tools are needed and I have posted a video below to show how this is done.
All you will need is a bank card or spudger, a pair of scissors and some cardboard from a cereal box.
You may also need a drop of glue or blue tack.
Although this usually stops all issues on most devices you may still need wakelock but usually it's not needed.
Paypal donation welcome if it fixed your phone you could donate here https://paypal.me/Arnookie anything helps no matter how small.

Anyone attempting this please do not go under the glass try push it forward from the battery compartment and then run a card around the edges of the grey plastic. Just go carefully when doing this and don't rush. You can heat the screen with a hairdryer to make removing the phone from the casing easier. It's the best way to do it.
Also you could use Aluminium Thermal pads or Copper instead of cardboard for better thermal cooling. Just make sure its 0.5mm or 1.2mm thick but no thicker!
You will get great 3d mark results using Aluminium, Copper or Thermal pads. "Do not use any kind of thermal pastes!!", You have been warned! But even using just cardboard works great as well.
Don't blame me if you break your phone more by attempting this. But if your phone is not working, you really have nothing to loose.
If you have an old phone you would like to donate please send me a PM.
1. Thanks a lot mate, I can confirm that this method works. At least it helps to turn the phone on/off asap without removing the battery then waiting like before.
2. Also, I am glad to break the front glass, and also cut off the blue wire for phone signal, just by sliding my credit card when trying to open the parts. So now I am ordering the new glass and a set of wifi/phone signal wires.
I am not blaming you, LOL, just to add in some information that anyone who never open the Note 4 themselves would do an extra care on this work.
Well done for your tips!!!
I'm glad it worked for you. Sorry to hear your glass cracked. That's a pain. I do try to explain not to go under the glass when doing this. I'm sorry if it was not so clear. No not really but if you like you could use aluminium or copper for better cooling and thermal performance. But it must be no thicker than 3 or 4 folds of cereal cardboard.
This has worked for many people already.

Instead of cardboard, I used folded aluminum to the desired thickness and reassembled. My note 4 actually turns on properly where prior the phone would shut off from minor use and had to remove the battery and pop it in the freezer just to turn on.... I did have 2-3 reboots so far but that was after heavy usage (few minutes gaming and gps usage).
I saw a similar youtube video that actually showed a voltage power supply and volt meter to the out put and pressure on the emmc card was the solution as well.
Thanks for the fix! Hope I can get more usage out of the old Note 4.
Yeh I actually upgraded this to aluminium as well. ?

Yeh sure but maybe do 0.5mm to 1.25mm, I would say 0.5mm minimum but 1.25mm should be ok. Its only purpose is to put pressure on the chip
