Interested in Freelancing android app/mw/kernel - Android Software Development

Hi Folks,
We have a team of three people; and we are interested in Freelancing or contributing to the android community. All of us have 2 years + exposure to Android app development, middleware development and kernel..
It was only recently that we decided, we needed to make some money using this skill, but unfortunately we are from India and hence we cant publish paid apps to the market. Also, you guys are the best source of ideas for apps. So start demanding your ideas here and we could get down to realizing the best ones. We don't plan to charge for the applications, but donations would be welcome. Of course, that would come into the picture only once we have the apps ready for you.
Looking forward to your demands.

Are all the 30000 xda users happy with their devices the way it is ?

If you need someone to publish for you, since your put of country I'll do it for you, you have helped me out before, least I can do

Can you write a kernel from source?
Sent from my SCH-I400 using xda premium

You can publish, i have some friends who did so, you just need to pay $25 for the initial sign-up
Also, if you make some nice apps, and people like it, publishing wont be a problem(the community rocks! )

cdesai, you have friends from india who published paid apps?

Ciscogee,i ain't sure what you mean by writing kernel from sources..

Since no one has yet booked ull for any app development please consider this OR not.
Hey i live in india too.
Was just thinking if ull could help me build an app for my basic robotics project
Its a cheap project consisting nothing more that a powers supply,micro-controller,motor controller IC,motors,DTMF decoder IC and of course an android phone.
I use the android phone to stream audio and video to a PC over wifi.
DTMF signals are sent over GSM network(as voice and not over gprs or 3g)(through the phone again) which are decoded by the DTMF decoder IC(had to physically cut my spare earphones to connect it) and the micro-controller makes sense of the decoded infomation...eg.2 means foward,4 means left,6 means right, etc.
Problem is that there is a lot of delay at times.
It would be nice if i could send signals over wifi with reduced delay by having the audio tones on the phone itself and not having to stream it across and just play the tones via a web interface or even a php api
I am familiar with c# programming only.
Right now im about to begin my exams on the 29th so please excuse my delay in replies. Thanks

Whoa, that's nice..but y are you using a voice call for data transfer? Do you know about the arduino board? It is specifically designed for such projects..and it's less than a $100 too,i guess

Our sch-i400 users only have a source for 2. 1. We are running a leaked 2. 2. Are you capable of writing modifications to have us run a 2. 3 or even 4. 0?
Sent from my SCH-I400 using xda premium

we definitely can, the only downside is we don't have that device..so testing becomes impossible..check in your forum if you device owners can donate me one..

just a knock..any ideas?

Same as above, us droid3 users have to use kernel wrappers to run ics. Hwcodecs currently dont work, if you got them to work you would recieve plenty donations from our communtiy. Its hard, and probably impossible, but thought id ask anyways

XDA does not allow fishing for money for apps / projects / development. We are a community that shares software and hardware development. There also seems to be no interest from users in your project either.

Sprint and the other carriers alike.

Please I beg you hire the devepolers of XDA the people here are more skilled than the people y'all keep hiring off craigslist. When ever I call sprint for help I get some script reading fool that knows nothing about what's going on with there service. I can come here and get an answer within mins of asking or searching the threads. Better yet XDA get live phone support if that's possible. Its less frustration to able to talk to someone that actually has a clue of why you calling.

Send a letter to Sprint.
Good luck with that one. Carriers aren't the issue. Devs help manufacturers improve their software for free by trying to enjoy their devices at full capacity. But sure send em a letter.

all it needs is alot of bad media attention and everything is resolved
If sprint hired XDA dev it would be bad news..why?
Because then XDA devs would have to sign contracts that prevent them from doing what they are now..and also you have to remember that Sprint's goal is not the same as ours...
Sprint's goal is to load bloatware and lock as many features as possible so they can sell them to you..and with XDA dvs working for Sprint no one will be there to remove those limitations...so be careful what you wish for..

You have to remember that a lot of these "devs" just copy and paste or modify code. In order to have what you perceive to be all these great developers to be hired. The developers need to know how to code from scratch.

Exactly. I am not sure what our most talented developers do exactly, but I am pretty sure they aren't writing device drivers from scratch.
well see who the real devs are when the source code is released.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
you also have to remeber the people answering the phones dont know $hit cuz they dont get paid $****. Anyone with the knowledge of the devs here is not going to go work for $10/hr answering phones for sprint. Same at any company the "tech" people at the help/service desk know basic trouble shooting if anything at all.

Newbie here (well somewhat)

First things first, I will go ahead and introduce myself to the world of xda. I am 24 years old, stable job and steady income. I'm currently in the beginning stages of what may formulate into my future career. Android developement. I have so many questions to ask. But first things first. Do I need to know java? I seem to discourage myself from making any real progress with programming mostly because I feel out of touch with the community.
I have never been one to stick with forums. Though now I intend to truly participate within this community now. I already use eclipse with the android sdk. But my real question here is, do I need to know Java? Thanks. I hope that I can become a great addition to the community and hope to participate and contribute as well.

Java is a Major part of Android Development... I'd get as used to it as possible.
well, i cant be of much help in terms of telling you what to learn/do, but i will say a pre-thanks. I love these forums and they wouldnt be possible without all the developers. so good job
as for developing.. well.. i bet there's probably an app for it lol. or an e-book
good luck!

Java and C++ for dummies?

Learning to be a dev takes a while because you need to develop skills that are necessary to code and such. Habits such as writing clean code and commenting out parts of code also need to be formed. I took an introductory comp. science course in college, but i haven't really practiced nor even attempted to look at developing for android as i know its a whole new world and i simply do not have the time to do it. But ladies and gentlemen, if you want to do it, nothing is stopping you, but just be sure that it is NOT easy and will take a couple of years or more until you are able to help with more than just bug testing unfortunately. And before anyone says that i am flaming or trolling, i am not, i am simply stating the truth and on top of that, I am in the same boat as you are, helpless to the devs. All I can do is donate some of my paycheck every now and then for exceptional work. I and we all owe it to these devs for making our phone work well and, as far as I'm concerned, they deserve it.
I would also love to help, but I just now started learning code on my "free" free time, its hard to remeber the format of the code, just that alone is a nightmare...
DOS was childs play compared to writing anything for android, I'm a pc guy, used to using windows UI or DOS back in the day when I was 14...

while we're on the topic, to what books are you referring ??
I'm definitely interested in some reading material.. while I can't help w/ coding and such (right now) I think it's a good time for me to get started reading and playing (on my device anyway)
I have tried MIUI
I honestly just dont care much for it it is built from its own source originally built in asia it is coded in I believe chinese and ported over to english and thus has been ported to different devices it was first ported to the og droid it is not built from aosp or any other android released source it is a ui built all its own.

Android Anonymous is looking for developers, themers, modders & testers

Android Anonymous is looking for developers, themers, modders to join our team. & beta testers for new and upcoming releases. It is not a job, so don't expect some crazy pay from us. We all do it for the love of the device & android, I personally work 50+ hours a week and develop on the side as a hobby. We are looking for anyone experienced or not, as long as you are open minded and willing to learn. We work as a TEAM, please don't be super cocky or have a huge ego. If you are interested shoot me a PM for details, and let me know a bit about you and any skills you may have to help us out, or any interests you have in learning, etc.. Testing spots will be semi-limited.
I prefer PM rather then a post in the thread, as it makes it simpler for me to check and keep track of.
