Red lens. - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys! Where can i buy the res lens camera? I am using a green lens. I looked on ebay but couldnt find one.

you cannot buy anywhere...its motorola's factory design / component.

i dun think u can swap the camera on ur defy...

Yes you guys THINK that its not possible, but why not? I don't think that moto changed anything other on the board. But anyway, lets hope that someone gets the module for gb-kernel working

Actually the soc module makes much better pictures then the Bayer one, especially in darker environment...
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App

Really? My understanding was it's the other way around.
I have the SOC camera and to be honest, the camera quality is pretty bad (on latest stable CM7) - especially in low light situations. I can't imagine the Bayer module being worse.

Yes, the soc module is already bad, but with Bayer module its even worse i have made huge testing as my friend bought a defy with Bayer module and i have got a soc one, the result is clear

The camera module it's soldered on the mainboard, too hard to replace.

Ah i see, thats why Moto put the Bayer in the Defy+ because it is worse then the SOC they have 2 get rid of the bad ones first. On what did you test the camera difference on the original MOTO Rom or on a custom ROM like CM7??
I think they will not put a worse module in a newer phone.

Well i have tested on cm7, and i think they only used the Bayer module to get the ability of 720p-recording and didn't take any look at the image quality itself well at least that's my theory to explain that bull**** but you are right, it could have also been some issue with cm7 on the bayer-defy. Well, lets hope for a working green lens module for gb kernel

Camera issue

I have a black line in all my pictures that I just noticed a few days ago. Only shows up on photos taken from my phone. There is no crack I can see on the glass over the camera. Any ideas what it could be or a fix for it?
Last thing I installed was the clean v0.9 rom and the nexus s theme

Check to see if there is a scratch or anything on the camera lens. If there isn't, go back to stock (probably good to do this anyway) and check the camera again to see if it still does it. If it does, I'd take it back and get it replaced as that doesn't sound like a software problem.
Sounds like a broken element on the ccd to me.

Thanks for the response guys. I think you're right it's a hardware issue. Back to stock and off to verizon.... Hey maybe my new fascinate will like oc kernels lol.

Bummer dude.. Mine says "not enough memory" when trying to snap a photo.. Thank god I don't use it.

Defy camera problem

I have a problem with my camera..in the stable cm7 version, the camera shots were very foggy and the quality sucked..i have that same problem in cm9..what do you expect the problem is?..but i think my autofocus is not correct...focus is not extract.any way to calibrate that?
And the camera pic quality was great in a particular cm7 nightly.
Solutions please.... :-(

changing the green lens camera with RED lens??

hi there.
i Have a Green lens Soc module defy.
bt i have a source from where i can get a motherboard of red lens defy,
i dont wana change the motherboard itself,as it would change the IMEI nmber as well..
can i change the camera? without changing the motherboard.
i know the red lens would probably have the BAYER module,so would that effect ??
anybody??
is it possible to just change the camera
??
You have to change the motherboard for for a one with Bayer camera module... I guess it's easier to sell the green lense Defy and get another with red lense

yes you can , the camera module is not welded in the motherboard

so if i just take the camera out from the redlens motherboard and put it in mine, mine will become Bayer module?

I unmounted the cam of my water death defy ....
My experience was that it should be pulled straight off to don't brick the pins which comes from motherboard , to do with ab special tool easily.
Cam should work fine
But i don't know how to mount again on ab other motherboard ..
I've forgotten to mark the mounting direction....
Cam has a mark motherboard not..

[Q] how to open the back cover

Hello
I need to open the back cover of the device to cover the camera.
Has anyone already done it? Is there a video to this?

Why do you need to cover the camera?

Seems like tape. Or maybe even a sharpie would do the trick... A sharpie would be permanent until you rubbed it off with some rubbing alcohol.

A lot of government buildings don't permit camera phones in the workplace. Same with a lot of private defense or research firms. OP probably isn't allowed to have a camera in his workplace, but loves the phone. A few years ago–to fill this small but certain niche–RIM made BlackBerry phones without cameras that were otherwise identical to their camera phone counterparts.
Tbh, the camera sucks. White balance compensation is worse than it is on my original Galaxy S. Pixels don't really mean that much when the picture is poor quality. I can't imagine how bad the camera is on Galaxy Nexus phones if the 4 is considered to have significantly improved optics.

I find the picture quality to be better than my S2 international. But I'm no optic guru.

Pictures come out fine for me, it's just the flash that ruins things.

Actually, I noticed that outdoor photos are acceptable. At night, with the standard lighting you'd expect from any venue or abode, the white balance is terribly far off.
Is it possible to turn off the camera by software?
I mean when I click the icon of the camera, the camera will not work at all.

Root. And then use Titanium to freeze or un install unwanted stuff.
If i do the root and freez or uninstall the camera the other application that use with the camera still can work with the camera ?

No Apps that relay on a camera app will work, but apps with their own camera app (like PicsArt) propably will.

Save yourself the trouble and duct tape the camera hole!

I just removed the back cover to play around. Really pretty easy.
1. Remove the SIM card tray, set it aside
2. Remove the two Torx (size 5) screws on the bottom of the phone.
3. Use a prying tool around the phone to pop the back cover straight off (I used a guitar pick and a small flathead screwdriver)
When you remove the back panel, it would be quite easy to put a little piece of paper to cover the camera.
However, even with the back camera covered, the front camera could still be used to take pictures... and removing/covering the front-facing camera is a lot more involving tear down process. I think a software mod would be your best bet.
Here is a great youtube on disassembly and reassembly of the Nexus4.
