How long did Froyo development take? - Epic 4G General

Posting this because I'm curious as to how long it took for stable ROMs to be available for Froyo. I'm on SFR 1.2, it is my 1st and only ROM, which I got as soon as it came out. I wasn't there for the wait for development, and now that I am for Gingerbread, I'm wondering what's the "average wait time" for stable ROMs? If I had to use a direct example: since Froyo was made available, how long before SFR 1.2 showed up? It would give me a better sense of understanding the development in that aspect. It would also give me something to look forward to; to more or less "know" (or think I know - lol) when to expect the stable ROMs. I've been reading the development of LegendaryROM and ACS ICS and although tempting, I can't bring myself to installing these just yet. Nothing against the people working hard on them, but they are in Beta/WIP stage; and after months of great performance with SFR 1.2, I know I want THE final build
I'm also aware that it may vary; but still an idea of how long would be nice. I'd like to point out I'm not asking for specific ETAs; just wondering

You must be afraid to try something else? Maybe not skilled enough to bounce from creative rom to rom? What do you have to lose? I'm on ei22 thunderhawk and I can tell you this rom is stable, as all the other ei22's I've sampled. If you install correctly, you'll be fine. Its the overclocking that begins the issues.

I've flashed more ROMs on other friend's phones. I'm aware of the steps to take. Not really afraid, just no need to flash other stuff. And from what I've read, some people are having problems with either data, wifi, bluetooth, force closing apps, gps, hotspot, among other things, on the current EI22 ROMs. I'm aware these are happening because of the fact they were just recently released and are in beta. And as for overclocking, never had to do it. Phone is fast enough, and when I've tried before it always freezes it :3 And can you blame me for being hesitant? I depend too much on my phone, and even though most of those who decide to flash EI22 are enjoying its goodness, some have bugs. Bugs I can't afford to have :>

This ^^ I've managed to make every possible use out of my phone. Managing files for college work, gaming, videos, sharing and all that good stuff, along with less useful things. Somehow, with all the crap I've stacked on my phone, it all runs smoothly. I am enjoying this "balance" too much to flash another ROM at the moment.
Still curious about overall "time frame"

Personally I'm on Legendary Rom 3.3... no real issues, other than intermittent wifi problems. Exchange activesync email works, gmail works fine, no random reboots, etc. Give it a shot if you want.

As most dev's will say it is done when it is done. This is not their full time thing so I would guess it would be hard to put a timeline on it.
SRF1.2 took a bit of time before it got to where it is. I believe we may of had a few more people working on it back then too.

as of this very instant, go with Macnut, as Master hasn't updated Axura for a while.
But I would suggest holding out for just a little bit, as Axura is going to have a huge update, and at that point, will top Macnut.

Axura is not going to ever top Macnut IMO. Eugene is too far ahead in this game for Master to one up his rom, after all Master is using Eugene's kernels.. so how could Axura be better?
It's really all about personal preference. You have to try them both to see which works better for you. I've tried both and find Axura to be more smoother... Looks are different too.
Use them for a couple days to see which you would like better.
Yes its still Eugene's kernels.
Waiting for his next update. Currently on Axura 1.0.5

Thanks guys. I'm going to try Mac now and try it out till master drops a new one. I heard master say his new build would bring more to the table, I can't remember what thread its in but its on its way.
Lets not say Eugene is ahead because of his kernels because even he says they aren't his strong point. But he is ahead, no doubt.

oh no doubt that Eugene is the most important developer for the Vibrant, and Axura wouldn't exist without his work, but Axura has definetly proven to be more smooth. And Master is set to update his ROM to the most stable Froyo our phones have seen.
I just flashed mac and it is way better than I imagined. I expected alot less given what eugene has to work with. This is a nice rom thanks for the input can't wait to flash the next master rom.

Want to flash a Froyo so bad, but no GPS is a deal breaker. Look at forums every day, waiting for Macnut to say "GPS working!".
I thought the same thing but the pros out weighs the cons. I love flash and some of the tweeks that were added. I recomend at least getting the. TW mod.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I tried both and decided to go back to Axura due to my extensive use of LauncherPro in interface design. Macnut felt too "TouchWiz" like to me... even after loading Launcher2, I still missed the flexibility of LPro...
I would say hold off a few days and see what happens with the GPS issue.

Best rom?

Hey I have a question, sorry if its been stated as I'm from the vibrant forum
I'm going to be rooting my sisters epic tonight, and was wondering what rom would be the best (she complains about battery life) so any suggestions would be great!
Thanks everyone, and again sorry if its been Asked.

I know you didn't mean to, but yes, this has been posted a billion times =P
And here is my answer: There is no "best" ROM; it depends on the User's experience. In my opinion, I like SyndicateROM Frozen the most, but there are so many others too, like midNIGHT, Bonsai4All, UrbanFury, etc. There really is no "best" ROM.
Here's another forum with the same question to give you a little more insight:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037394
Sorry if it's not really a direct answer, but then again there really is no answer.
Hope this helps!
Yeah this us to hard to answer. Its all personal opinion. Just flash them all and luck the one you like the best. They are all great so none of then will disapoint you at all

Yeah, what they said
If I were you I would start with syndicate rom. You will get a stable rom with support if something goes wrong. Midnight is great but the Dev sold his phone and won't be on here as much to help. It is based off of Bonsai.
Bonsai is not on here anymore. They started there own site that requires you to sign up and asks for a donation every time you download. I don't mind them asking but Bonsai has gotten out of hand.
I use midnight but am going back to syndicate as soon as K0nane and the rest of ACS release the newest ROM.
I used to use Frankenstein which is based on syndicate but his ROM is too new this time for me to try it. I wait for others to work out the bugs. LOL.
Samsung Epic with Midnight for now
EC05 Stock Plus. Stock experience with tweaks and bug fixes that make stock what it should be.
Viper Synergy 5.0
Viper Synergy 5.0 on ext4 with EC05 modem. BTW, Viperteam and ACS roms are the best but I prefer Viper. Viper Synergy 5.0 would be my recommendation.

I was skeptical about trying anything other than an AOSP rom, since I like minimalistic rom, but seriously Syndicate ROM is a wonderful rom that has minimal customizations and is super fast.
tl;dr: +1 to Syndicate rom.

It's not broken, you have bad data/cache/dalvik-cache/need to Fix Permissions/need to Odin to stock EC05, wipe and reflash/need to wipe SD card and perform the previous.
As for fixing permissions, how would I do that?
As for using Odin, I tried that a long time ago and my Epic would not connect to any computers, is there another way to get stock EC05?
I believe the ROM I was using before, Truly Epic ROM, was based off DK28.

I'm really not sure... I originally flashed the ROM coming from Truly Epic ROM v1.5, going to SyndicateROM Frozen 1.1.0, had some troubles, so factory reset, reinstalled Syndicate, had the phone app work off and on for a day, and now it's completely stopped working.
Sorry I'm not very good at this....
Odin to stock EC05, format your SD card, redownload the ROM, wipe 3x, flash.

[Q] The best ROM after rooting the epic 4g?

then
modems and themes ( i recomend darkis nebula) then ur goona say i want to try it there is a whole sticky for that but 1 thing that was told to me DO NOT post on the devs side of this read look dont post chance r what u post has been anserwed here on the general section word to the wise but you can do what u want

If you are on EE03 GB for me, the more stable ROM is anonymous V6. This guys have tried to fix most of the bugs from Swiss Cheese and more. V7 will be even more stable when they release it soon. I 100% recommended it if you guys want to try GB. Is Still a work in progress, but still very reliable.

Haven't found a really stable custom rom yet. I'm back on stock, forcing myself to wait for the Sprint Gingerbread update release.
As others have said, try some, the beauty about being rooted and having the ability to flash custom ROM's is you can change as often as you want. No harm in flashing one, trying it out for a day or 2, flashing something else for a couple days... experiment until you find the one that you personally like best. Enjoy
We only have eight roms find the one that works best for you lol. I've been on SFR since release and currently have it paired with th Genocide kernel with great results. Just make sure to enable journaling.

i run the same set up
and this is my quad
Here is a writeup of the setup I use on my phone, includfing the additional mods.
For me, the theme is the most important part, as most ROMs are pretty close to each other (except asop & cm7)
My fav setup on my Moment came from when I built my own collection from all the development pieces, so I figured I would start my collection for the Epic as well
EXT4 is a standard for me now, so after stock flashing to stock EC05, the next step is to add:
Clockwork Mod 3.0.0.6 or Clockwork Mod 3.0.2.5
Next is my base EC05 ROM, currently I am using SyndicateROM Frozen
I will probably stay with this ROM until CM7 is fixed, or a Frankenstein version is released
My FAV theme has finally been updated, here is the link to it: Honeycomb Fusion 1.1 / Addons!
Next is custom apps, I simply love the transparent MMS app, it is a themed versions of stock, and is good enough I don't need any other version: Transparent Messaging App Collection (EC05,EB13,DK28)
Then I found a transparent dialer in the thread for Erebos! Slick, Professional theme in post number 6
Another must have app, though it comes with the ROM, is WiFi Tether (ver 3.0-pre11) as it works to connect my Moment to my Epic via WiFi. Here is a link to the download page for the latest version
Added the ADW Ex Launcher, and while I still prefer LP, I am gonna keep it because the Black Glass 1.7 Theme makes my App drawer transparent!

RandomRom Egret is Rocking My Socks!

Big Ups to RandomKing for this one. I can't post in the development section just yet, but this is by far the best battery life ROM(if not ROM period) for my specific Epic. I've not had ANY of the issues others have reported with either version. (I think my Eagle worked fine because I already had Chris' EG22Plus Kernel Loaded). Right now I'm draining 1% or less an hour when idle, and barely 3% with keeping my background data and auto sync on for work purposes. I think it would be even better if I wasn't using the gmail app.
Everyone else who may have tested this on both the kernel Egret comes with, and EG22Plus Kernel. Which one's working out best for you so far? I've had such luck on EG22Plus I don't even want to try running without it.

Because I enjoy it.I honestly don't see why everyone's hung up on the latest thing.Latest doesn't always necessarily mean greatest.I enjoy ComRom and I subscribe to the adage if its not broke don't fix it.

i would say that its advisable to run an ed05 kernel at least with it as the missed call bug was mostly proven to be in the ec01/ed01 kernels

No problem, hope it works for you. Personally, I'd run a GB+ ROM at this point, but to each their own. I'm on ICS AOKP build 25 myself, for today anyways. Tomorrow it could be the next newest thing, or back to CM7, or a GB TW ROM. The nice thing with the TW based builds such as ComRom/Superclean is that they just work, unlike a lot of the AOSP builds that all have their own quirks.

I agree whole heartedly that they just work.I live in a rural area and spend alot of time in a vehicle traveling to and from various places so I just prefer a rom that I know "just works".I appreciate y'alls help.

I hear that. I travel fairly regularly for work as well. I'll normally run my flavor of the week, just to see how it holds up. If it's not solid and reliable, then I'll roll back to something that is. A reliable GPS is a must, as most of the places I travel to are new to me. I'm anxious to see how this latest ICS build holds up on my next trip.

And....do you have any recommondations on a solid Cyanogen Rom?

Nope, no themes, sorry. The CM7 I've been using is makelegs' build since the official nightlies shut down. For CM9, it's been JT & sbrissen's build. I haven't tried the latest version there yet though, so I can't comment on it. The ricks port of AOPK 25 has been running well for me. I had the non-working wifi in build 22, but it seems solved in build 25.

After our conversation about ComRom I decided to give AOKP another whirl and I must say I'm impressed. My last attempt at running it was full of reboots and data drops but it must have been a bad download because it ran smooth all night. In any event I switched back to ComRom this morning with Detox theme.Once again,I appreciate all your time and effort.

Yep, this new builds been running well for me so far. I've been happy with it. I'm glad I could help you out so you can get back up and running. I've done my (more than) fair share of downloading the great work that the dev's offer here. If my contribution is making a few of them available again for other to use, so be it.
