[Q] The best ROM after rooting the epic 4g? - Epic 4G General

What is the best and most stable (more importantly) ROM out there for the epic, based on user experience?

I like midnight 5.3 but its all preference if you want stability go with stock ec05 plus
Edit: FIRST!!!!

Bonsai, the latest release.

Try a couple, then try a couple more, SFR 1.1.1, Bonsai, Paranoid, Anonymous, Super Nova, Viper, all pretty good...

Don't forget Frankenstein as well
But really, do try them all and just see which one you like best and works best for your phone.

this is what you need
best answer for you bub the post above me qbking77 start there how to root without a computer then learn how to odin then after you can fix what ur eventually going to semi brick or boot loop or wierd black screens that some ppl have never seen (qb) lol then get ur self a rom that u like and works for u what i like or qbking like maybe be different my phone never makes a noise till it rings so i dont need a rome with lots of sounds some roms dont work all the way then there r kernels well one step at a time............................ just go to you tube and get ready to get hooked

then
modems and themes ( i recomend darkis nebula) then ur goona say i want to try it there is a whole sticky for that but 1 thing that was told to me DO NOT post on the devs side of this read look dont post chance r what u post has been anserwed here on the general section word to the wise but you can do what u want

I don't really think there's a such thing as best rom. Some may be more popular than others, but my two favorite are simply aosp and srf v1.1.1.

If you don't care much about bluetooth, and 4g. Id say give CM7 Alpha a try. I feel like I'm in a whole new world after installing that rom after using every rom available! Except simply asop(cm7 clone)/ which I'm getting ready to test here in just a second when its done downloading!

Simply aosp is the next best thing to cm7 IMO. Never have problems on it, something always ends up breaking at some point or another with the other roms. For me anyways.

I like SRF 1.1.1. Never tried anything else because it worked so good when I started with 1.1.0.

If you are on EE03 GB for me, the more stable ROM is anonymous V6. This guys have tried to fix most of the bugs from Swiss Cheese and more. V7 will be even more stable when they release it soon. I 100% recommended it if you guys want to try GB. Is Still a work in progress, but still very reliable.

Haven't found a really stable custom rom yet. I'm back on stock, forcing myself to wait for the Sprint Gingerbread update release.

As others have said, try some, the beauty about being rooted and having the ability to flash custom ROM's is you can change as often as you want. No harm in flashing one, trying it out for a day or 2, flashing something else for a couple days... experiment until you find the one that you personally like best. Enjoy

We only have eight roms find the one that works best for you lol. I've been on SFR since release and currently have it paired with th Genocide kernel with great results. Just make sure to enable journaling.

i run the same set up
and this is my quad

Here is a writeup of the setup I use on my phone, includfing the additional mods.
For me, the theme is the most important part, as most ROMs are pretty close to each other (except asop & cm7)
My fav setup on my Moment came from when I built my own collection from all the development pieces, so I figured I would start my collection for the Epic as well
EXT4 is a standard for me now, so after stock flashing to stock EC05, the next step is to add:
Clockwork Mod 3.0.0.6 or Clockwork Mod 3.0.2.5
Next is my base EC05 ROM, currently I am using SyndicateROM Frozen
I will probably stay with this ROM until CM7 is fixed, or a Frankenstein version is released
My FAV theme has finally been updated, here is the link to it: Honeycomb Fusion 1.1 / Addons!
Next is custom apps, I simply love the transparent MMS app, it is a themed versions of stock, and is good enough I don't need any other version: Transparent Messaging App Collection (EC05,EB13,DK28)
Then I found a transparent dialer in the thread for Erebos! Slick, Professional theme in post number 6
Another must have app, though it comes with the ROM, is WiFi Tether (ver 3.0-pre11) as it works to connect my Moment to my Epic via WiFi. Here is a link to the download page for the latest version
Added the ADW Ex Launcher, and while I still prefer LP, I am gonna keep it because the Black Glass 1.7 Theme makes my App drawer transparent!

[Q] [Poll] What is your favorite custom ROM?

Dug through 5 pages and didn't see this topic. I'm anxious to try EXT4 on my epic and I was wondering how you all feel about the ROMs you loaded on your phones. What's your favorite and why? What other roms have you tried?
My current setup is in my Sig but I love it. Its beautiful, smooth, and completely awesome.
My setup is in my sig too. I've tried almost all and this my favorite.
I'm currently using midnight with ext4 file system and it blows the doors off the two I previously used, epic experience 2.0.0.5 and then bonsai for all 1.0.4
Take care

After going from Bonsai 1.0.4 to Quantum 2.5.0, then back to Bonsai 1.1.1, I gotta say, Bonsai rocks the socks off Quantum. It's so much more smooth and glitch free. I also didn't care for Viper's theme or the attitude from the EpicExperience guy.
i gotta say the poll results surprise me. I suppose what is important to epic owners really does vary.

What surprised you? I'm curious. I was surprised too, however the sample size is small enough that its not really indicative of anything just yet. What surprised me was how many fellow Nebula users there are and how many bonsai users there are. From what I understand those are the two least flashy roms (flashy meaning speedy or pretty or the like) but just plain jane stable roms.
I'm using nebula 1.0.6 also ith ext4 and its really minimalistic. I love it.

Best rom?

Hey I have a question, sorry if its been stated as I'm from the vibrant forum
I'm going to be rooting my sisters epic tonight, and was wondering what rom would be the best (she complains about battery life) so any suggestions would be great!
Thanks everyone, and again sorry if its been Asked.

I know you didn't mean to, but yes, this has been posted a billion times =P
And here is my answer: There is no "best" ROM; it depends on the User's experience. In my opinion, I like SyndicateROM Frozen the most, but there are so many others too, like midNIGHT, Bonsai4All, UrbanFury, etc. There really is no "best" ROM.
Here's another forum with the same question to give you a little more insight:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037394
Sorry if it's not really a direct answer, but then again there really is no answer.
Hope this helps!
Yeah this us to hard to answer. Its all personal opinion. Just flash them all and luck the one you like the best. They are all great so none of then will disapoint you at all
Sent From My Evo Killer!
Yeah, what they said
If I were you I would start with syndicate rom. You will get a stable rom with support if something goes wrong. Midnight is great but the Dev sold his phone and won't be on here as much to help. It is based off of Bonsai.
Bonsai is not on here anymore. They started there own site that requires you to sign up and asks for a donation every time you download. I don't mind them asking but Bonsai has gotten out of hand.
I use midnight but am going back to syndicate as soon as K0nane and the rest of ACS release the newest ROM.
I used to use Frankenstein which is based on syndicate but his ROM is too new this time for me to try it. I wait for others to work out the bugs. LOL.
Samsung Epic with Midnight for now
EC05 Stock Plus. Stock experience with tweaks and bug fixes that make stock what it should be.
Viper Synergy 5.0
Viper Synergy 5.0 on ext4 with EC05 modem. BTW, Viperteam and ACS roms are the best but I prefer Viper. Viper Synergy 5.0 would be my recommendation.

I was skeptical about trying anything other than an AOSP rom, since I like minimalistic rom, but seriously Syndicate ROM is a wonderful rom that has minimal customizations and is super fast.
tl;dr: +1 to Syndicate rom.

Far from it. But the customizations are stable, all make the ROM faster, and are minimal in terms of adjustments to looks.

It's not broken, you have bad data/cache/dalvik-cache/need to Fix Permissions/need to Odin to stock EC05, wipe and reflash/need to wipe SD card and perform the previous.
As for fixing permissions, how would I do that?
As for using Odin, I tried that a long time ago and my Epic would not connect to any computers, is there another way to get stock EC05?
I believe the ROM I was using before, Truly Epic ROM, was based off DK28.

I'm really not sure... I originally flashed the ROM coming from Truly Epic ROM v1.5, going to SyndicateROM Frozen 1.1.0, had some troubles, so factory reset, reinstalled Syndicate, had the phone app work off and on for a day, and now it's completely stopped working.
Sorry I'm not very good at this....
Odin to stock EC05, format your SD card, redownload the ROM, wipe 3x, flash.

recommend ROM?

Just finished rooting my Evo 4G for the first time and was wondering about the different ROM available. I haven't rooted since i had my Hero a year ago. I had fresh on my Hero and loved it. However I mainly use launcher pro and wanted to get away from a sense based ROM as I wanted to use full HDMI out and bluetooth HIDS and from last time I heard a bug in sense prevented this..is this still correct?? I was looking toward CM7.
So does anyone have any recommendation to start off with?
Thanks,
-Stephen
Sense does have the broken Bluetooth stacks, yes. So AOSP-wise? Whenever I actually use AOSP, I use MIUI with latest Tiamat kernel. People complain about no 4G and how it looks like an iPhone, but it is so customizable and it has some great devs.
Other than that, I would suggest SalvageMod or Deck's.
MIUI>SalvageMod>Deck's. All with the latest Tiamat.
But I am a Sense guy, so you know.... Full HDMI mirroring works on Sense with latest Freedom and Chopsuey kernel, if you are interested.
And if you need a refresher, check out my guide in my signature. It is written for Sense but it should apply universally.

I'm gonna start w/ CM7 stable. A few quick questions. What would be the best kernel to go with this. Something to increase battery, trickle charging.
Also do i need to flash a radio with this??
I went with Decks. From what I read it is a striped down version of CM7. What are the main differences? whats has been removed?

How long did Froyo development take?

Posting this because I'm curious as to how long it took for stable ROMs to be available for Froyo. I'm on SFR 1.2, it is my 1st and only ROM, which I got as soon as it came out. I wasn't there for the wait for development, and now that I am for Gingerbread, I'm wondering what's the "average wait time" for stable ROMs? If I had to use a direct example: since Froyo was made available, how long before SFR 1.2 showed up? It would give me a better sense of understanding the development in that aspect. It would also give me something to look forward to; to more or less "know" (or think I know - lol) when to expect the stable ROMs. I've been reading the development of LegendaryROM and ACS ICS and although tempting, I can't bring myself to installing these just yet. Nothing against the people working hard on them, but they are in Beta/WIP stage; and after months of great performance with SFR 1.2, I know I want THE final build
I'm also aware that it may vary; but still an idea of how long would be nice. I'd like to point out I'm not asking for specific ETAs; just wondering

You must be afraid to try something else? Maybe not skilled enough to bounce from creative rom to rom? What do you have to lose? I've flashed more ROMs on other friend's phones. I'm aware of the steps to take. Not really afraid, just no need to flash other stuff. And from what I've read, some people are having problems with either data, wifi, bluetooth, force closing apps, gps, hotspot, among other things, on the current EI22 ROMs. I'm aware these are happening because of the fact they were just recently released and are in beta. And as for overclocking, never had to do it. Phone is fast enough, and when I've tried before it always freezes it :3 And can you blame me for being hesitant? I depend too much on my phone, and even though most of those who decide to flash EI22 are enjoying its goodness, some have bugs. Bugs I can't afford to have :>

This ^^ I've managed to make every possible use out of my phone. Managing files for college work, gaming, videos, sharing and all that good stuff, along with less useful things. Somehow, with all the crap I've stacked on my phone, it all runs smoothly. I am enjoying this "balance" too much to flash another ROM at the moment.
Still curious about overall "time frame"

Personally I'm on Legendary Rom 3.3... no real issues, other than intermittent wifi problems. Exchange activesync email works, gmail works fine, no random reboots, etc. Give it a shot if you want.
As most dev's will say it is done when it is done. This is not their full time thing so I would guess it would be hard to put a timeline on it.
SRF1.2 took a bit of time before it got to where it is. I believe we may of had a few more people working on it back then too.

Done 'em all...most
Well, maybe I've missed a couple here and there. But I know for damn sure I'm a Flashaholic 150%. I'm surprised I haven't blown this phone up yet. I just gotta try a new Rom every week or two cause I like trying new things. KEEP THEM ROMS/Updates ROLLING OUT!!!! YeeeeeeHAAAAA!!!
Name: iceman
Rom: MIUI(for now)
Kennel: MIUI standard
Jalil
Revival v.3
Shake & bake v.6
Samurai kernel
I love to flash new roms every couple of days or week cuz it makes me feel like I got a whole new phone and that's the reason I've had the epic for a year the 3 months b4 I got my epic I had 4 different phones lol I never knew about rooting and roms and stuff but I'm loving my epic with its new features from every rom I have literally flashed ever rom out for the epic since ec05 lol except for miui I'm just waiting for it to get 4g running then ill flash for sure cuz it seems amazing
And the best part is I don't have to worry about the volum button or camera cuz I mostly just use rom manager lol
And a lil note, once u flash roms a lot and back up apps and stuff 16gb becomes a tiny bit I'm running outta space lol

I'm no flashaholic - but that's because I cook my own meth ROMs and kernels.
ROM: Kocaine EI22 (EXT4) - don't ask, you're not getting it
Kernel: Kocaine 1.0 - Github, see test branch - don't ask for binary/flashable, you're not getting it
Haven't flashed in a while, 'cause I consider what I have pretty much 'done'. I could add a few things, but I'm lazy.
When I was BML TW based I was doing really well. Built my own rom and tweaked the ICS theme to my liking and I was set. Now that I'm on cm7 I find myself flashing nightly :-\ .

"Dr.Phil"
Now there's your problem.. your so selfish keeping everything to your self so much so you must put in "don't ask for it"
just kidding I wouldn't expect you to give me a ROM anyways..... would love to learn how to make my own though

Hi my name is Xalky and I am a flashaholic.
I t all started back in the froyo days. With my first flash of the Bonzai Rom, I became hooked. Even though that flash was a disaster and I bricked my phone, I learned a lot that day, about how to resuscitate my phone... I felt like Superman. Thats when the addiction started.
I successfully odined my Phone back to stock.....BFD,..... not satisfied, I wanted power, speed, and sexiness, and more of it. So the Quest for the ultimate Rom/tweak/theme began. I searched High and low for the flash that would get me that feeling again...but i couldn't quite get there. Because as I later discovered, the rush comes from the "act of the flash" and has absolutely nothing to do with the end result.
For a while I was maintaining civility with the Frozen Rom and the Genocide kernel, which was a nice blend of power, speed and sexiness. But then the day came when Gbread was unleashed onto the epic scene, and I was sure I wanted some of that.
Again I searched high and low for the ultimate flashing experience and it's resulting power/speed/sexiness rom goodness.
I've tried many of them but I keep going back to the stuff that Marcusant is cooking up. He has a particular knack for producing the product that keeps me satisfied longer than all the others.
From the looks of it...it looks like Marcusant is his own best customer, which is probably why he puts out the best stuff... IMO
He always leaves something out to keep me coming back to his thread to find the flash that'll make his ROM complete.... yes, he is the pusher man.
BTW: if you take a good look at my username, you'll probly figure out that i know a thing or two about addiction.

I don't do nandroids either I feel like they are not a clean method to revert back to a configuration. But what is your reasoning for not doing nandroids outta curiousity?
