Hello!
Wanted to upgrade Epic 4G to stock EI22. Please, can somebody explain how to do it better and not to loose Root and CWM
Because I've upgraded but right now I don't have root and not CWM
What I did
Odin EC05 Rom
Odin 3.1.0.1 purple
flashed upgrade to EI22.
What I did wrong?
Please, step by step if this is possible?
Thank you!
If CWM is installed and working, use it to wipe and flash a pre-rooted almost stock rom from the dev forums.

Hi I have an I9000 and I have upgraded the OS to 2.3.5 using the stock firmware from samfirmwares.com I think it is using Odin. The question I have and I have googled it and searched and read this and many other forums is can I root my I9000 without flashing CWM and a customer kernal?
On my 10.1 tab I just have a zip file I drop in root and reboot to the recovery menu and update it and it's done. I want the same for my I9000 (just for Titanium backup and SU) and I want to stay on the stock rom.
Thanks
Brian
Nop that isn't possible!
Only way to root 2.3.5 is flashing a custom kernel.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Yes,you can...

It is not a single-click process but two.
First of all use CF(the least complicated kernel) that applies to JVS to obtain root(from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108 ) and then flash the stock kernel(from perkas stash-- http://perka.zapto.org ).The result would be your phone has root and only the stock kernel.
Best wishes.
Thanks thats what I wanted I'll do that then. Why do you flash twice though? why CF then perka?
Thanks for your help

Twice because----
1)the CF would root your phone
and since you don't want anything other than the native/original kernel,
2)flash the kernel as suggested.
You could as well not go for the second flash but simply remove the minor tweaks and reboot for them to be removed.
No big deal/difference really.
As the title said...
I'm looking for the most battery efficient, most smooth working, most application free (I don't want all the google applications, I use only Play Store, I don't like to sync my phone with the google apps) official ROM for my Galaxy S+.
I live in Romania. The i9001 ROMs for Romania are from vodafone and cosmote (mobile network providers), and these ROMs don't satisfy me. I would prefer a stock ROM without any change provided by the mobile network companies.
I do updates with Odin, I don't use kies...
The custom ROMs work very good, but it seems that the battery drains very fast... I had the swiss 2.3.6 version and the battery drains much much much more slowly.
From your experience which version matches? And where I can get it from?
I hope you can help me. Thank you!
Ok, because no one replayed, I've done some researches and flashed with Odin the 2.3.6 GB I9001XXKQG_I9001NEELE1_NEE.
This one seem to work ok! it satisfies me, but I want to know if I could obtain more?
Now it has the stock recovery and stock kernel.
Can I root it?
Can I change its recovery and kernel?
Which recovery and which kernel?
How to do this?
please? someone help me? :crying:
Check the Wiki
The best info I've found is to read the wiki
Samsung Galaxy S Plus WIKI: Visit Here
Has section on Rooting and Recovery.
I use ClockWorkMod Recovery CWM 5.5.0.4 version as it has been stable.

Kevin

Yes, you can use the stock recovery. I had no issue doing it this way.
On flashing CWM I did get a boot loop afterwards, but there is a link in the Wiki to fix that also.

Did you flashed CWM with Odin or directly from recovery with a .zip file?

Which recovery are you referring to, the stock one or custom? Stock is hard to messed with except in extreme cases.

Flashing stock firmware will also replace any custom recovery you had with the stock one.
I've been using only CWM 6.0.4.7 by Chenglu. If you want to use this one, choose the correct version for your phone and flash using odin.

Pardon the noobishness.
My 4.3 was rooted via towelroot and has Nova launcher,
as I have read for months about recoveries, ROM's, Kernels, bootloaders etc
and am more confused than when I first looked into rooting!
3 days ago I decided to flash my stock ROM so that I could update from 4.3 TO 4.4.2 VIA kies.
Immediately I was underwhelmed!
My phone turned itself off randomly.
The K on the kit katkat screen did not spin.
I lost my root, so I thought I would try and re flash the i9505XXUEMK9. Odin said in yellow "failed".
I waited about 15 minutes and nothing was happening and unplugged, big mistake,
the screen had a yellow picture, oh FUDGE!
So I took it to the Samsung Store in Sydney and I was lucky enough that the store was empty and a tech came up to me(!?)
I didn't have a reciept, but I told him the story and he said he could help.
He connected it to his laptop and asked me what carrier, and 10 minutes later,
phone was working and he had flash the Optus logo onto it
I was so happy!
When the phone booted up there was the towelroot and Titanium apps on the screen, but he didn't even care
I take it home, towelroot doesn't work, so I investigate, and the answer is Chainfire, all good.
The stress of it all!
Then I decide to hell with a custom ROM, I found Xposed with Gravitybox
and spent all arvo trying to make it work and Nudda!
Are my dreams of custom ROMS over??
As I am really wanting a hybrid S5 ROM!
I'm so lost!
I back up with titanium. I don't understand why I would need CWM, TWRP or Philz?
Then, the wiping process, dalviks?
Then I know how to flash with Odin.
I would really appreciate if someone knows a comprehensive tutorial or just to be pointed in the direction of my
knowledge blackholes, I feel that I'm close to being full circle!
I really want the S5, Note 3/4 features but I can't afford the upgrade.
Any advice or comments will be appreciated
Indeed, based on your story you are a big noob (no offence). You tried to flash a 4.3 rom while you were already on 4.4.2. That's impossible.
So what do you want? A custom rom?
- Flash a custom recovery
- Flash the rom with the custom recovery
It's so easy.
And Gravitybox? You should read more. That's not for a TW based rom. It clearly states that in big letters.
Thanks
Thanks for stating the obvious Lenny.
I want a hybrid S5 Rom.
Do I just have to download the ROM then flash it?
I don't understand why I couldn't just re flash 4.3?
Thanks
Yes download and flash.
If you want to know why you couldn't reflash 4.3 read this.

OK.
I have flashed CWM 6.0.4.4.
I don't see the point of that though.
Next is to download a custom ROM and flash that?

I recommend you flash TWRP or Philz Recovery for avoid problems.
Hi Guys,
As you can see, I am new to this site. My phone is S4 19505. Yesterday, I tried to root my phone and that was a succes. Problem began when I want to install kernel for longer battery life. I have installed kernel from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2297379 and I have chosen Touchwiz KitKat 4.4 version. After I flashed this kernel my s4 is not starting. It just stuck at first screen "where we get first white letters samsung galaxy s4".
I have no idea what to do now.
Can anyone please help me?
Advance thanks.

twrp. I dont know what you mean by stock rom because this is my first time I did. My device is running 4.4.2. and I chose for kernel 4.4 version of tw.
I think that you have to re-flash a new rom. Then, you have to retry installing root and the kernel.

I agree with msmlz, if you have nandroid restore it or download the firmware in sammobile and reflash it and before flashing the custom kernel again, read the thread, see if someone face bootloop like you. Hope someone with experience on it could help you, I never install custom kernel, just update the last stock kernel on my rooted stock rom.
