How to make odin rom - Epic 4G General

I saw some questions about if we have an odin image. To make one, someone with the ota needs to follow one of the guides below.

if it were this simple, the devs would have done it by now.
i think what most people are looking for is:
[Odin][+Recovery][+Root][+EI22 WITH modem]
something is holding that up... anyone know why?

No official tar with modem file. We only have a delta that adds code to make EC05 an EI22 modem. Need Samfirmware to release the official tar. You cannot pull a modem out of a cdma phone.

You are only reiterating my point. People want the modem, yet it is missing. Doing it through a delta doesn't seem very clean to me.

Then your point was good and valid...LOL. Yes without a modem to Odin with a tar, what's the point. Everything else is flashable.

[Q] What is a modem?

I've been flashing roms and kernels for over a year now so I know what those are, what they do, and how to flash them. The latest version of Quantum Rom requires the DK17 modem, though, and I don't really know what that is. Where do I get the DK17 modem and do I just flash it like everything else?

A modem is the phone's baseband and (someone else correct me if I'm wrong) it controls how the phone interacts with GPS, WiMax and the CDMA network. As for how to flash it, see this thread (can't post links yet)

Haha thanks! In coming from WinMo, IMO all of this android stuff is way easier to use than WinMo's modding tools.

A modem is short for Modulator/Demodulator. It is the part of device communications that allow them to "talk".

Downgrade DJ05 Modem???

Is there any way to downgrade back to DI01? I updated the modem firmware and now I cant text. I have to use GV which is dumb cause I dont want to confuse everyone with another number. Anything I can do? I've tried every wipe, Odin, everything....
In the same place that you found the DJ05 modem you should be able to find DI01....then you can just reflash in odin

Are you running a dj05 rom? Flashing dj05 modem on di01 rom will break texting, just as having dj05 rom with di01 modem will do the same.
Got some AMAZING help on IRC. Got two different versions of a DJ05 ROM, and a DI01 Modem. I'm hoping I'm good to go now!

Not true. The Odin DJ01 modem tar is available on IRC and can simply be flashed over the DJ05 modem (which the OP already found out).
Excuse me....sorry I've been planning my wedding and haven't had much time for irc....

Yep. I got the di01 modem if i want to flash back and the dj05 rom to go with my dj05 modem. I used it instead of downgrading modem. I will say the deox dj05 is MUCH snappier!

Sorry.

Does DI18 modem (tar+pit) for Odin exist anywhere?!

I have been searching for the DI18 modem for flashing with Odin, but have had no success. I find DI18 full OTA in plenty of places, but not the modem + pit file anywhere.
If you know, please do point the wya.
Thanks.
Look long and hard and you will find what your looking for. Its amazing what the search button or even looking in the wiki will provide. Maybe even crack open a stickie or to

I have looked at the wiki and many threads before posting. I find many ROMs/OTAs that contain the modem, but not the modem tar and pit only.

I came across this thread before as well. All I see is the full ROM with modem, not modem ONLY. I display 100 posts per page, but don't see the DI18 modem ONLY.
I usually don't need to be spoon-fed, but I am puzzled. Please advise. Thanks.

But don't I need a .pit file to flash with Odin? I have that tar file but always thought that a .pit file is needed?
I have both the DK17 & DK28 with modem.tar and .pit. Is the .pit version specific, or can I simply use the .pit from there (and build the .tar using the modem.bin, of course)??
You don't neef a pit at all. The pit is for mapping. When flashing a full rom tar the mapping is built into the tar

But what if I am flashing modem ONLY? I want to downgrade my modem on my DK28 ROM, so all I want to do is to flash the DI18 modem.
In this case, don't I need the .pit file, since I am not flashing the full ROM?
By the way, I tried using the flashable in Clockwork, but like many others, it didn't work.
Thanks.

It seems to be working fine for many here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922428
Edit:
Back to my original questions:
1) Is there a DI18 Odin (modem.tar + .pit) flash?
-or-
2) Do I need the .pit file if I am flashing modem only?
3) If I do need .pit, can I take the DI18 modem.bin file and inserted into a DK17 or DK28 modem Odin package? (I tried this, but it didn't work, don't know why. Is there a different procedure for this?)
1) Take the modem from a di18 odin image. Just open the tarball with 7-zip or winrar.
2) No, but it doesn't hurt to use it anyway. And all the pits are basically the same, with some minor differences in partition sizes. The victory pit is the latest and works with all previous odin-able images.
3) There may be some signing or a checksum needed to create a package that odin will flash.
Question for the OP-
Why do you want to flash the di18 modem? The dk28 modem seems to work fine for everyone. Is there some difference or specific reason why you want that modem?
People are having random 4G/Wimax drops using DK28 modem (mine does this too). It has been speculated that the DI18 modem works better with 4G. I am also suffering the Status 7 error trying to update the modem with CMR 2.5.1, so 0din is the only way to go to get around the status 7 error.
I am also looking for the modem/pit file to use. Can someone detail how to do this with the full di18 rom to just flash modem only?
Thanks!
I have not done this so someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if you open the full DI18 tar file (with 7zip or winrar) you will see modem.bin as a file inside. Copy that out of the tar file into a folder or your desktop. Then in Odin, select "Phone" and select the modem.bin you just extracted.
victory_8G_100528.pit or s1_odin_20100512.pit should work for your pit file which probably came zipped with your odin download. If not do a search for one.
I was able to flash the DI18 modem file using the .BIN from the official full, and the .PIT from Odin (victory). Make sure you select "Phone" and I also deselected "F Reset Time".
Baseband version shows: D700.0.5S.DI18
Running stock DK28. Lets see if this 4g is faster now
EDIT: No service now... anybody have any ideas what could cause this?
I ended up reverting. Was not able to get 3g service, but strangely 4G was working fine.

See my link from post #10. It seems like DI18 solves some random data drop issues. For me, [I believe] the radio locks up randomly, causing the phone to reboot. I am just curious to try DI18 to see if it helps. Despite the notion that DI18 radios to not work with DK28 ROMs, there are a few people in that link that are using DI18 and loving it.

I was getting status 7 as well. Strange that you lost service with DI18. I know that I was able to Odin to DK17 and the phone worked fine. I may try DI18 again later tonight...

Ya mysteryemotionz, and all this guys does is be little people and give out crap information. All he wants to say is, go use the search button. He gets on my last nerve and serves no real purpose here on XDA but to think he is a mini moderator.
OP: Sorry to hear bout 3g crapping out, never heard about your problem, though you gave me a little insight to what I might need when I head to my local 4g area for a couple weeks.

Its funny how you n00bs want me gone but the senior members want me here. Its funny how rom devs and themers ask for my assistance and to beta test there products. Its funny how I got my own projects out there. Put yet you would like me to leave

Is There a Method?

I've searched long and hard but i still haven't found one. Is there a method, zip, file, or anything that you can flash using CW3 in order to return to a stock, non-rooted, Sprint accepted version of Android? (EB13, DI18, etc) Basically, just a way to return to stock without the use of Odin. If not, could one be created?

That's all we have for now. Until the official EB13->EC05 comes out, we can only do DI18->EC05. But, that's it.
EDIT: Just to clarify, you MUST be on DI18 to flash that.

This. Full modems are not flashable with CWM3. Only modem_delta files, which are patches - and we're dependent on Samsung for those.
