It may very well be posted in another thread (stock kernel as Odin3, that is) but it seems like quite a few people that use Odin3 can no longer receive OTA updates. Many of us are getting failures at 50% after using Odin3.

With the number of people getting bricked phones with the OTA why would anyone be crazy enough to do it? We've already had JH7 for weeks over here. When you Odin one click have you removed ClockworkMod or Voodoo folders from your root before attempting OTA? Odin won't touch anything that is on your internal sd. You should move those files to a safe place on either your external sd or your computer. I don't think anyone with fails has tried removing the items from their root before OTA. I did see a post somewhere that someone did and the OTA worked.
That's not true at all. Quite a few people flash Odin and IMMEDIATELY try the update, no modifacations from stock, only to have it fail. Myself included.

So far used odin3 one click, used regular Odin with samfirmware.com file. Used stock kernel posted by koush. All result in "update is failed" at 50%

What is the stock kernel version?
some are claiming the new ota update changed their kernel to 2.6.29 [email protected] #2
I flashed odin stock and flashed the "stock kernel" and still show the same kernel version..
I just completely wiped my phone and installed stock rom and this is my kernel version. I dont know if that helps....

Well the OTA update JH7 is much different than the one leaked on samsungfirmwares. Prolly half the files have different md5 checksums, so there's a lot different.

Thats what I did. I did odin3 one click, then immediately downloaded the OTA update and it crashed at 50%.
Hopefully somebody will be able to get the OTA update and then make it into an update.zip that we can just flash via recovery. The OTA JH7 is much different from the leaked JH7 on samsungfirmwares.
Looking in the threads, I found this:

Same here. Pretty disappointing. . . .
(sorry if this has been covered in other threads, I searched and couldn't find it)
I found it on androidforums listed as a modified update.zip to bring DK28 phones back to DI18, but I'm not sure what it actually does. It's only 5mb, not ~100mb like the DK28 update.zip
Does anyone have an experience with it?

The only DI18 update.zip file is for going from DI07 -> DI18 (hence why it is only 5mb)

I believe the first link on there, you can attempt to try renaming it update.zip. Im not sure if it works without clockwork tho.. Give it a shot the worst thing that can happen is it will say aborted and wont mess up anything.
I'll give it a shot. Does it completely wipe the phone like Odin, or just change the firmware?

I think it just changes the firmware, i dont think it wipes anything, ive been flashing around roms on 2.1 and flash back to stock a lot and i never lose my data even when i wipe it..
Alternatively, is there a way to get Clockworkmod Recovery onto my DK28 phone?

besides the one click root, with clockwork, i dont think so, besides the long adb commands, which i dont know where that post is at but thats a lot of work.... But if you put clockwork on you can take it off with a simple flash of the samsung recovery zip also in the link above.
Thanks for the info.
Why is it so much more complicated to roll back than it is to go forward to a new version?

Well, not really complicated, just a few things you have flash to remove all the rooted stuff, if you use odin its still a lot of steps and more risky of bricking, i constantly see, new threads of people using odin by not following all the instructions and bricking there devices.
That's why I'm really hoping I can avoid having to use Odin to go to DI18 to get the official OTA update next week.

Dude, just look for the stock DI18 rom, rename it to update.zip, boot into recovery and flash it. That's all. I've done this several times before (although i'm now on a solid 2.2 Froyo rom).
It's a full rom, not a 5MB whatever..
It's that easy, and I don't clockwork recovery or anything?
Why does anyone bother with Odin then?
I think I have the DI18 rom, is 158,159,706 bytes the right file size?
You'll still need to odin in the di18 modem. Cwm can't flash a modem

Ofcourse you lose everything. Re-install them back. What i like to do is take screenshots of all my home screens (i'm anal about which apps go on what home screens ) so i know easily what to reinstall.
I've searched long and hard but i still haven't found one. Is there a method, zip, file, or anything that you can flash using CW3 in order to return to a stock, non-rooted, Sprint accepted version of Android? (EB13, DI18, etc) Basically, just a way to return to stock without the use of Odin. If not, could one be created?

You cannot overwrite the modem in Clockwork. Flashing a recovery that way is iffy at very best. So what you want to do? Just plain not happening. /thread

Hello..I would like to ask if anyone here could make a flashable .zip ile that would revert partitions to the samsung stock type, as if done via odin..I wanted to try cm7, but at times i go for weeks away from home and do not have my pc/laptop for alot of that time to use odin..So if there was a such .zip i could just flash that, and then any samsung based custom rom (that is because cm7 changes partitions).Thank you.
U don't need anything? Just flash a stock rom and u'r cool?

If you are on CM7 or MIUI, you must flash a stock rom with Odin + pit/repartition in order to restore the partitions to Samsung's BML instead of the MTD layout used in CM7.
I think this request is a great idea although I'm not sure it it's possible.

It must be possible as the CM7 zips are doing exactly the same thing, just needs to be the other way round.
Also Im sure codeworkx said it can be done in the CM7 thread when it was mentioned there by the OP.
Edit: My mistake, Atinm said it.

If Fascinate owners use the same pit files (512, 513 or 803) when flashing their ROMs with Odin, you should be safe.

this would be great if it was done
i have all my roms on my sd card, i would never need a pc / odin to revert back to stock and so on.
i can download my roms from the phone and if i could re-partition too, it would be invaluable

Forgotten and lost this thread is (yoda)
something similar to repart from cwm: is it possible to create cwm images of stock odex samsung roms? that would be awesome if you could flash stock roms without odin/heimdall just from cwm
I saw some questions about if we have an odin image. To make one, someone with the ota needs to follow one of the guides below.

i think what most people are looking for is:

something is holding that up... anyone know why?

No official tar with modem file. We only have a delta that adds code to make EC05 an EI22 modem. Need Samfirmware to release the official tar. You cannot pull a modem out of a cdma phone.

You are only reiterating my point. People want the modem, yet it is missing. Doing it through a delta doesn't seem very clean to me.
