Adobe Flash Death - Atrix 4G General

Adobe announced today the death of Adobe Flash Player. They have decided that it isn't the "best" way to go in terms of Mobile technology.... So what are we just left hung out to dry now???

I never use flash so no big loss, I have flash set to on demand in mirin. If I could I would block it completely just like I do at home.

Did you only read half the news? Adobe is going to be focusing on Air for mobile devices.

I love it, Steve Jobs is laughing in his grave. He told Adobe straight up they would have to switch to hdml 5 like his iphone.

It's not that they "had to;" it was more that it's a better business decision, plus they can still use Air along with HTML5, which isn't that bad.

Its really not, owning both I would say most websites use html5 due too most users at one time on mobile websites where iOS users. So you really dont ever notice flash not working except on the dumb ads where you dont want videos running anyways. Ohh and for porn. If your a porn junky then yes your android phone will plya a lot more than iOS since crappy porn sites still use crappy flash.

death
Hi there, Speaking of death prediction, I find it really odd that one of the on-line death prediction services showed me the same death date that I was foretold in my dream about a year ago. http ://yourdeathdate. info/1/index. html - I can’t explain this coincidence in any other way except that there must be some kind of magic involved here.

As someone who uses both iOS and Android every day of my life I have to completely disagree with you. I love both for different reasons but the biggest downfall of the iPad is that it doesn't play flash. I spend allot of time looking through different news sites for tech & gaming and whenever there is a video I most likely will not be able to play it, only like 30% of the time will the video be playable. The biggest contribution to the problem is NO YouTube, yes there is a dedicated app, but when you try to play an embedded YouTube video it does NOT open the app and play it, it instead says "Please install flash".. Anybody that has spent any amount of time with an iOS device knows what I'm saying is true and the lack of Flash is a pain in the ass! Either your kidding yourself or you dont spend much time browsing the internets. True story.

I see it as a bad move from Adobe. Almost as if they where waiting for Steve Jobs to pass out to call it off!
I know Html5 is cool and all, but not quite as robust as Flash.
It still can't do as much as Fash does natively and by itself.
Html5 has to rely on yet another layer of code called Javascript to do even pretty basic stuff.
In the end consumers will pay the price at least until developers decide to redo all their stuff on Html5. I know that Adobe is working on a conversion platform but results are yet sketchy.
Cheers!

Netflix on Android

Read an article saying the Netflix app will only be coming to new phones with the app pre- installed. Meaning we won't be able to go to the Market and d/l the app. Is this true? Are there any ways around this? I was really looking forward to my Instant queue on my Inc.
Our processors aren't made for it.. The new snapdragon is gonna be different and be able to meet Netflix requirements.

I didn't read anything about it only coming preinstalled... I only got that it would only work with snapdragon processors due to some security system that they have... netflix would be dumb not to release an app for all phones considering that the best part of android is that we have options on what phone we want to use... if this is the case then the HTC tablet will steal the market from the xoom since its not a snapdragon

As a recent Netflix convert, I went searching a few days ago for a Netflix app. I figured there had to be one considering the popularity of Netflix, but there was NOTHING
I can't believe there is no official Netflix app, not even one to manage your queue, browse what's available, or even to control Watch Instantly on a 3rd party player (Boxee, PS3, etc). Big disappointment
Do u really think im gonna be walking and watching a movie? Cmon man. Anyone who has netflix and an android phone wants the app. Not only to watch movies and shows but to update our queue as well. This isnt about walking and watching, its about being able to do everything with our Inc.

I completely agree.
Its ok though b/c Netflix will soon put the app out there for those new phones the new snapdragon processors and then all those wonderful hackers we have in the Android community will come up with something for the rest of us.

You can still manage your queue with your web browser, but I agree an official app would be better.
I know its a crappy kind of workaround, but I have PlayOn installed on my server at home witch then have the PlayOn app on my Inc and it can stream my Netflix to my phone wherever I am. I am bummed there is no official Netflix app, but there are a few to do your queue.
The bad thing about it is I used to have a Netflix app for my HTC Vogue. I could manage my account and all my queues. I really can't belive that Netflix can't come out with at least a basic app for Android.
Im hoping one of our genius devs come up with something for our rooted Incs. Maybe theres a way around the security so the app can be ported to us. Heres to wishful thinking!

Unfortunately, the DINC will likely never see a working version of the Netflix app
Netflix has strict DRM requirements and, as of right now, only the brand new generation of Snapdragons (like the one in the upcoming HTC Thunderbolt) will be able to support Netflix since that processor's firmware contains the latest DRM keys. The DINC's processor does not contain the DRM keys it needs to allow the app to function
Normally software can be hacked to "get around" these types of requirements, but apparently the devs tried and failed to get it to work and eventually all but gave up on the project and will now only focus on porting the app to newer phones with the newer Snapdragon chips:

Looks grim, but I hold out hope that some enterprising developer will find a way to extract the DRM keys needed to get the app working.

Well, you can contact them and get a refund. And I don't think you'll make the same mistake twice.
But I can pretty much 99% guarantee in order to get deals to allow renting of movies on the Market, Google had to tell the studios that they wouldn't allow playback on rooted devices. Google is fine with rooted devices, they clearly allow many rooted apps (even apps that root your phone) on the Market. Its the studios that think there's piracy problem and want no playback on rooted phones, even though that's absolutely retarded, but that's how they feel (look at netflix, they were going to require hardware chips for DRM in android phones to get netflix playback at first).
Cool your jets. It'll be a small matter of time before we have the market cracked open and this root check removed so we can use it. If you're rooted you should have no problem waiting for this, you should understand it. The root community won't rage on this, they'll just fix it for themselves as they always do.
Well think of it this way. Either only nonrooted devices get to rent movies, or no android phones get to rent movies. It's not google, but the studios demanding protection from rooted devices copying their films.

The content providers are thinking ENTIRELY too hard about this. Ok, so they could have took his money and he could have somehow pirated it off the phone. First off, there are millions of copies of whatever said media floating around anyways. Second of all, by them NOT letting him get it, he is probably just gonna go pirate it. F-in idiots! They should just take everyone's money and be thankful anyone even WANTS to actually pay for it. On a sidenote, it's been highly publicized that rooted phones were not gonna be aloud to access this new paid content on the market. Unfortunately looks like you missed all those articles lol. And i'm pretty sure i remember reading that it will take your money and then tell you that you can't have it.

Ya really. It drives me nuts that they think they are still in a position to be making such demands. If I were the ceo of one of those company, I would be doing everything humanly possible to make it as EASY as possible to obtain their stuff legit. Instead they still want to candy coat it in drm and put restrictions all over the place. Its not like ten years ago where your average person really only knew how to get music. In this day and age even grandma moses knows how to download a movie. And with xbox, ps3 etc., you don't even have to go through the trouble of converting and burning it anymore! I mean seriously. The movie industry is its own worst enemy. The music industry imo has gotten slightly better, but the movie industry is its own worst enemy. At least with music they allow things like pandora, and now spotify. It really has curtailed a lot of my piracy. But the movie industry is still trying to run with this old model that's just not working. 10 dollars a TICKET? Twenty to buy it? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I LOVE how the price of everything in the world has went up, but the average wage has not went up barely at all. Don't get me started! In america music and movies are creature comforts, and they gotta realize were gonna get them one way or the other. Do u want to sell one movie for 20 dollars to one out of five people? Or sell a movie for 10 dollars to 4 out of 5.

Its pretty clear whats going on here. And anyone on XDA understands that there is 100000% more piracy on computers where they offer this also than there are on phones.
But the studios don't care. They know piracy happens on computers and they're fighting that battle. They know that they can demand Google remove functionality from rooted devices, so they do. They can't stop it on computers, but they can (in their minds) stop it on Android phones.
You guys are expecting the studios to act rationally on this, since when do you expect them to do that? Like I said before 1) Did you really expect the studios to not block this? and 2) The community will crack this in no time, cool your jets.

I apologize to the Mistress in advance for being slightly off topic, but Hulu has gotten just as bad. More and more studios are pulling their day after air streaming and making it exclusive to Hulu+. What they don't understand is after I missed a show I would much rather give them ad revenue by watching on Hulu than by torrenting something. Yet they take that away? Greedy idiots.

You people realize that there has to be something on a phone WITH root compared to a phone withOUT root in order for them to DETECT IT, don't you? What do you suppose that thing is? Probably a command somewhere in the PATH called "su". Want them to not detect that you have root? "mv /path/to/su /path/to/fuisuANYWAY"
will that affect any of the functions of the root?
I don't understand why you're so surprised. This was said would happen when they announced Google Movies in May. Read up.
Why anyone would pay to rent a movie on they're smartphone is beyond me.

As posted, the devs will get around this. I don't have any devs skills but I'm thinking some type terminal app. Something that retains su permissions to take advantage of the currentwork around.
su
mount -o remount, rw /system
mv /system/xbin/su /system/xbin/mu
Hit home than watch your movie or other paid stuff is done, than reload the same terminal session, which still has su permissions
mv /system/xbin/mu /system/xbin/su
Either the videos or youtube app looks for the su binary. Simply renaming or removing it will yield results.
Perhaps the devs will modify the apps to not check. I only found one instance of su in the videos apk, but I really have no idea what I'm doing , just tinkering and exploring. About to check the youtube apk.
Well that works for me for now...just annoying as ****

Truth be told anything that is rent-able in the Android Market is already available on torrents anyway! So to put that restriction on rooted phones is almost laughable, considering anyone who went through the process of rooting is almost assuredly a wiz at torrents!

As a huge Windows Phone fan, I can't understand why ANYONE would want the 8x over the Lumia 920. But I digress...
To install apps not in the market, you have to register your device as a dev device (all 3 of my Windows Phone devices are registered and I'm able to install non-market apps).
I have several Android devices and personally, I believe Windows Phone buries it. If you were closer, I'd loan you one of mine to use for a while to see if you like it. I have converted a few to Windows Phone from iPhone 4's as well as Android devices. Only ONE person so far has switched back to the iPhone and it had a lot to do with the fact that she worked with other women who had iPhones and she felt like an outcast. Seriously.

Well, his biggest concern is that he can sideload apps. Since WP8 CAN, the correct sentence should have been that it does SOME of what he wants.
The Gmail tags are nice but between subfolders and a web client, those needs are basically met as well.

Personally, I'd have to give serious consideration to the Nokia Lumia 822 as well.
Nokia's Windows Phone support and Nokia apps are great.
Given that those are your only options though, the 8X is a great phone. The 16GB and lack of MicroSD card was the only disappointment for me with it.
I have an OLD HTC Surround (the first Windows Phone device AT&T carried) and I still prefer it to anything Android or iPhone related. Windows Phone is a VERY fast and fluid OS. The tight integration between services is pretty awesome and nobody can touch their Email/Calendar/Office apps.
I hope you can get enough time in the store to give it a thorough going through. I'd hate for you to buy it because I said it was awesome and after 3 weeks you hate it. While many people I've "helped" convert to Windows Phone are now true converts, one of their wifes is still missing her iPhone. So not everybody that jumped in feet first was happy about it.
Still ignoring his very first question?
Yes it does SOME if you're only talking about sideloading apps by paying to register a device at the moment.

sorry, I can't do nifty things like italics and bold to clean up my responses in your quote from tapatalk (on my android device, while eating a plum, from california, on a Sunday)

[Q] Anyone besides me, just give it back??

After the aggravation of no flash support, multiple screen freezes, and the sometime slow buggy screen response. The screen is great for viewing though! I decided to just send it back. To be completely truthful I would not have bought it, when not supporting flash!! Reminds too much of Apple!! I hate when companies force me into, or in this case out of something I want just because they feel like it!! If they think it's a security risk, make it a user option! When you buy a router, do they force you to use encryption? No!! It's my tablet & I should be able to watch flash videos if I want!!
And before anyone starts saying, you can get around it by using firefox or dolphin browsers, you can't! At least not completely, they are buggy!
Just want to see if any others, traded it in so to speak!!

Just want to see if any others, traded it in so to speak!!

Same boat as you, i had it for a while then gave it back. I ended up sticking with my infinity.
Mmm... Flash is no longer supported mate all across the tablet/mobile world. Besides if your not willing to side load the flash apk then I suggest you go buy a laptop. Flash is buggy anyways but for me flash is nice on my N10. I Can watch my Hulu through the browser. If you want flash you got to do a little work to get it working. Just like any android tablet nowadays. The issues you stated can you be a bit more specific? I haven't had any problems on performance on this thing. Browsing is very quick. Just opening apps and loading my gmail is very fast compared to the Infinity I had. Even using ttorrent, I can actually download a 3gig HD movie without sacrificing performance. No laggyness at all compared to other previous tablets I've owned.

Question for OP, did you pay a restocking fee? When I swapped my 16gigger with 32 it was like a 15% fee!
Back on topic though, I guess I just was one of those users that got a bad tf700 and had a terrible experience. My N10 has been running superbly. The only reason I doubt my assumption is b/c I went through 3 tf201's before finally giving up and waiting on the tf700.

Flash works fine on the Nexus 10 and it is Adobe who dropped Flash, not so much Google. Adobe said they were dropping all mobile flash support.
Guess I was one of the lucky ones because my Nexus 10 is perfect. Better than the Xoom I had, the Transformer tf101 I bought my wife and the Galaxy Tab 10.1's I got my parents.
No issues at all....and working flash

I really don't understand how Flash Player is so important enough to justify a device purchase decision, especially since it's becoming obsolete... Might just be my browsing habits, but there are 2 sites total that I use that would be "somewhat" pointless without flash player. Just 2. And those 2 sites I could care less about on a tablet (one of the sites is YouTube; which has a standalone app on Android lol)
So in a few months when either all Android tablets are updated and no longer support flash, or your tablet that does, is completely outdated, you are just going to NOT own a tablet ..
At least that is what I get from your "reasons".
Honestly you don't have to justify returning the tablet, if you can't take change I suggest you move to the north pole or something where pretty much nothing changes.
These posts about "Why I don't like the N10" or "Why I am too lazy to sideload flash" or " X tablet is Better than Y tablet" are REALLY REALLY getting old ..
I am in these forums because I own said device, not because I want to talk about how I returned it, or how much I hate it ..
Should be a rule if you don't own the device and are not a developer, leave said forum.
@OP
It looks as though you don't have any clue what you are talking about. The nexus 10 definitely supports flash. You don't need anything but the flash.apk to use it on any browser. It is the users choice to use it or not. And please do a little research next time before you try and slander or put down a company (Google) for something that they have nothing to do with. It's Adobe that doesn't support flash on the mobile platform. Not Google. All you would've needed to do is take 11 seconds to sideload one app and you have flash. Either way. If you don't have this tablet, what does your opinion of it matter here in the Nexus 10 forums? It doesn't. Move along to the next device, complain about that one, and waste more space in another forum with your opinions.

I agree with you 100% and I wish happy owners like me, who are the vast majority, could hide threads like this to make it easier to focus on threads of interest.
While many of us xda users are capable enough to search and find solutions to Chrome's lack of flash, there is an app I used to keep handy when I encountered a site w/ flash. Its called Flashify : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nightshadelabs.anotherbrowser

Anyone who wants flash please see this post.

I'm using Ocean browser and this apk worked fine for me.
Just use puffin browser whenever you need flash. It loads the content on remote servers then sends it back to you. It can even emulate a touch pad or a game controller for flash gaming.
It works on iOS too if you care about that.

I had an Infinity for two months before I got the N10. Each person's experience is different but my Infinity experience was laggy and frustrating. I found myself rebooting frequently trying to make it speedy. I disabled most of the Asus stuff, it just didn't "feel" like a great experience. I will say Asus is on top of updates and the bloatware is minimal by comparison to other non-Nexus tablets, of course.
The N10, for me, is just smooth. Living with the N10 is just better for me.
No one had an answer last time I asked, does anyone know now if there is a fix for flash/browser yet, so when I hit full screen it doesn't crash the browser? I tried all of them, they all do it

Developer huh?? Like I said flash is buggy on the nexus 10! I did side load the apk flash pack & it only works partially!! Go to any site that uses flowplayer to show flash, hit the full screen button & the 10's screen goes black & does a partial lock up!! The only way you can move off that screen now is hit the home button!! And its not the flowplayer program, because it works fine on my PC!! It will do the same thing on your 10 too, most likely!! Take your personal assumption & attack where it belongs, off a cliff!! My point was I don't like Google, Android, Adobe, or developers taking things away just because they feel like it!! Remember the software companies work for the public, not the other way around!!
If I knew flash would not work properly, as i stated before. I would not have bought it to begin with!! I believed the developers that there is a workaround, there's not!! At least not one that works 100%.

Stay calm lol your the one that came here, posted a new topic, and assumed that things are what they are from your brief experience trying to get flash to work. Task650 knows what he is saying and we are all just trying to help you and correct you because what you think is not true. Yes there is a way to get flash working 100%
Here is a link to get flash working 100% you will need to unlock and root your device if you want it to work 100% Yes I'm sure that site you spend time on should work as well. It worked for me and I was able to watch Hulu. I would test it out for you but I just unrooted to exchange my N10.

But I guess you don't need it now since you've returned your N10. Its unfortunate because its a great tablet.

I believe I will be charged the 15% restocking fee, credit not issued yet. Apple customer service is way better in that regard. I think in the future, I will wait to see the device in a retail store first, save time & trouble on both ends!

So then... what mobile platform are you going to buy in a year or two? Plus, it's the mobile Flash player that's causing the problems. That's purely Adobe's fault for dropping it.
I can tell that your "multiple screen freezes, and the sometime slow buggy screen response" are from fullscreening Flowplayer and being unable to get out. You make it sound like a generalization throughout the whole device.
Anyway, were you talking about this?

Yes sideloading will not give you 100% especially if your running stock and not rooted.

Thanks for the helpful response, unlike some other members that tell me I can't believe my own eyes!! Mine is heading back already but this may help others with the same problem!! Personally, I like flash & wish it would stick around. I take offense when others tell me what I can & can't have, especially when I'm paying them & they're not paying me!!

galaxy note 10.1 2014 edition

If I had known that I could not do the same things I did with my laptop I would not had wadted my money on this crap. It freezes all the time, no flash, no java unreal.

First, post in the right forums, second research what you buy, third try coming to the community and asking questions where you will hopefully run into a good guy or gal who will help you solve your technical issue. For flash content there are several ways to achieve your desires but the simplest and fastest that works every time on every flash related or desktop browser related issue ive had is simply buy Puffin Browser for Android on Play Store. It will play your flash with ease.
For your freezing issues more info would be needed. For instance is battery saver mode enabled? Have you jammed the drive over full of apps? Are you running 10,000 widgets? Have you debloated? What is your definition of freeze? Do you like to sing campfire songs around a large block of ice in underwear while wearing moose antlers mounted to your head?
Im really interested in the answer to that last one.
Nice Confession..
