i use Ndrive and he dont detect satelites

I'm using Sygic and the phone fix quite fast with rock solid signal. I got this phone one week ago and i'm actually quite impressed about the gps performance for the price.

i m using google maps and it doesn't detect satelllites on 2G but on #g it does whats the problem

That is strange. I use Airtel with Edge Data Service only. And I can easily use Google Maps and Turn-by-turn Navigation (installed via the Brut hack) with GPS---in Bangalore India.
Just wanted to mention if you install the Brut Google Maps hack, you'll be able to even cache your map! So imagine you have the map stored locally on the SD card and can use GPS with it----so no need to use your data plan at all and save time and money.

Rom updating for dummies?

I need alot of help since im new to the world of rom's and radios ok im using a sprint mogul and i want to enable gps on my phone using the official rom does this rom have the radio and the rom? or will i just get one and if i do just get one do i need to get the other one and if i do can u recommend one and give me a good detailed guide on how to do this i dont want to brick my phone or anything and im new to this so i need alot of help all help is appreciated
if you want to flash the oficial rom just download the exe from the HTC site, run it and follow the instructions, it will update both the rom and radio
rom
If I were you, I'd definitely do this on a XP computer. When I put the 3.35 HTC ROM on my Mogul through MS Vista, it got bricked 11% in. Both my XP and Vista computers wouldn't even recognize it as a mobile device. Anyway, after browsing forums for a few hours, I found some posts on how to fix it. It was painful, but it is possible to fix so don't panic if you screw up your first RM update.
Thanks i did it on my laptop took like 12minutes and worked like a charm i i just learned y they call it the tri-color screen now is upgraded to a cooked rom harder than flashing to a official rom?And how do i get the gps to work i have google maps but wat else do i need and will it cost money?

google maps should automatically detect your gps (at least it did for me) just select "Use GPS" from the menu
the only cost is data (for google maps anyway) so make sure you have a data plan, if not you can use a program like TomTom which has locally stored maps (to clarify the GPS functions are free, but googlemaps uses your data connection to download maps)

sometimes it takes as much as 30 minutes for an initial lock (its faster after that very first time) but it doesnt really work well indoors anyway, try it outside
i found this forum with one tahts free i just cant figure out which phone is mine on the download page there is no ppc6800 mogul titan i also heard that it can be called a p400o but thats not there either im using sprint.http://www.nav4all.com/site2/www.nav4all.com/eng/index.php
nav4all doesnt work on my sprint mogul.
it just keeps searching for a gps lock adn never gets there.
phone's a refurb from about a month ago; gps works fine under google but worked ****ty under telenav during the trail period.
if anyone knows how to make nav4all happy on a mogul i'd love to know.

what GPS software you recommend?

I noticed that there's no way to get free GPS software to work with my HD, so which ones you guys recommend? I heard the google maps charges way too much based on how many times it is used and data.
Can these softwares once bought provide different maps? I travel different places around the world.
thanks
The best GPS navigation software in my opinion is TomTom 7. However, it does not have maps in every country. Therefore, I have about 4 different GPS in my HD. For asian countries, the best one is MapKing.
Do need to have internet connection for GPS to work?
Does the GPS needs some data service to work? or does it work like a regular GPS?
Or is it based on the software used?
thanks,

No, you do not need internet connection for software such as TomTom, iGO, Mapking and Garmin. Only if you use such additional services (strictly optional) that such connections are needed. Most people use only the map data which resides on the device itself, unlike Google Map, which need to download the map data as you use it.
question on Garmin
I noticed Garmin might work for me in the US (don't know in Europe) but the packaging details that it comes with a cd and a memory card. So how am I supposed to use that if I got my 16gig memory on????
thanks,

3D buildings in GPS navigation is so useless, your looking outside the windscreen so everything is 3D anyways.

hello plz..can some tell do my HTC magic got GPS or not.

hello guys..im a bit new to HTC..i recently bough HTC magic Sapphire (black color) from lowyat plaza malaysia...i almost paid 470$ USD for it mean 1600 rm
im really sad that i can't use the GPS function like google maps other thing
im from turkey ..GPS function very important to me since im not in my country
my android version is 1.5 unlocked...do my HTC magic support GPS..?
Yes, it has GPS. Unfortunately you cannot use it with google maps by itself. In order to use the google maps you will need a data plan or wi-fi available, the gps is used in google maps only combined with the data plan or wi-fi for street-level locating.
Also you can use some alternatives:
Copilot Live
Sygic
iGO My way - soon to come
All 3 above can run using only the built-in GPS receiver.
really thanks...dude..
thanks
thanks. really helpful post. just subscribed a data plan and going to try it. haha.

TomTom and roaming

I have TomTom and 1 gb of Europmaps installaed and it works just fine.
But now im going on holliday and was thinking about using my HD2 and TomTom navigation. But is TomTom using data when showing you where to go?
I know that e.g. Googlemaps is using data to download maps as you go, but now that TomTom is using the 1 gb maps, is TomTom then also using data to work?
TomTom isn't working if you disable the phone in the Commanager.
So will it cost to use tomtom abroad?
Good question
I use Tomtom and I have used this with no available credit and not received any extra charges or anything
I would be interested to know why it needs the phone connected to a phone signal to actually work this is also the same with Garmin XT
I would think it would work while roaming without causing any additional charges to your phone but that is just a guess
the plot thickens
i just ran Garmin XT on the HD2
I first tried with flight mode and Garmin works fine
Removed the SIM card and Garmin still works
weird as I also have garmin xt on my HD as well and if I have no sim it wont work
Thanks ozmoran, il'l try and use Tomtom on my holliday and se if i get any big bill
Tomtom will not incur charges when roaming, if your worried just make sure your HD2 cant make an internet connection by installing something like nodata.
Iv noticed in flight mode that iGo8 and memory map both work fine however for some reason tomtom never does, iv never incurred charges though using tomtom while roaming.
the HTC has got a A-GPS chipset. That chipset uses the GSM network to get an estimate of the handset’s location down to cell/sector, therefore can predict with great accuracy the GPS signal the handset will receive. With this assistance the size of the search space is greatly reduced and the time-to-first-fix.
there is no charge for this.

Just a thought should Tomtom work if AGPS is turned off?
and thanks for the info
much appreciated
dont worry i tried with location and same result
so if its more detailed Id rather not mess with it LOL
yea just takes a bit longer to get a fix. but apart from that it doesnt need to access anything unless you clicked on an update by mistake
TomTom uses no data for me. I used it when i was driving to Switzerland from Sweden. I just installed a nodata app to make sure it used no data for weather, emails and such.
I got no big bill when i got back home, except that the text messages and the calls was alittle more expensive than usual (duh?)

about GPS works

I have an easy question about GPS, I am using Vibrant without network plan. So I don't know if I can use GPS with out any wifi or 3g? I am using the BV 1.3.1 now.. If that will work, how can I set up?
GPS uses military run satellites to determine you location. The network or data transfer is irreverent. Your GPS will work without network connection.
Now lets say you try to navigate to a location with Google maps. This will not work, although the phone will know your location it can not use the network to DL the maps nor calculate your route. If you use a nav app that store a maps on your SD card, then you'll be fine

Is there any nav app that we can't download free and store the maps in SD so that can navigate without network?

I don't see how the phone would be slower, in any regard. It would not affect the phones processing speed, nor would the gps run slower. The only thing that could be slower is finding your location from a cold start, using network location can speed this, but imo it's irrelevant. Network location is too inaccurate for navigation.
There are some apps which store maps, but none that are free. Maybe someone else knows of one.
In my experience, GPS lock can be considerably slower without the network. The AGPS works by querying the network to get supplemental information like precise time and maybe ephemeris data (precise sat location) which can make a huge difference in acquiring lock. The phone is capable of acquiring lock without this network aid, but locks can take minutes, and accurate locks can take many minutes.
Of course, the other caveats about requiring off-line maps etc for navigation functions also apply.
I don't have a data plan either but my gps works just fine. It locks onto sats in about 10 sec.

thats open source map app where u can drop locations to go turn by turn (initially the maps load over wifi, but u can choose to save them and save them according to the resolution. I live in Atlanta so i only saved the GA portion with a decent resolution, which is nice that i dont have to worry about downloading states ill never need).
i personally use copilot live more (about 1gb for USA maps with poi)
i forgot the price, but it is 100% worth it (almost better than my in car navi)
Running bionix btw if that helps with gps lockon timings
and dont forget to get apn droid from the app store to make sure it disables all cellular network data. only downside is that if you want mms then u have to turn it back on reboot and then download the mms then turn it off again, but i dont get many mms anyway so its ok.
Get CoPilot Live USA.
Its $5 on the market and it preloads the maps for the country on your phone. Works WITHOUT data and the interface is SLICK. Full 3D navigation with really good voice turn by turn.
One of the best purchases I ever made. Hope it helps you too
PS: Maps get updated about every month so they are always current as far as road names and points of interest. Note that since it isn't using any data and data triangulation, if it is the first time you use it after a phone reboot it will take up to 3-4 minutes to lock on. This is normal as it is the same if you try any 3rd party GPS receiver navigation system. Once you've used it once since the phone has booted up, lockon time will be under a minute.
