I was wondering about the overclocking kernal for cm7. just how do i put it in. Do I have to do that when I first install or can I add it later. also does it really help. I mean is the difference really noticeable or not at all. I am still deciding if I should do it or not.
Kernels are flashed through ClockworkMod and can be flash anytime after you flash a rom. If you use the search bar you can easily find what particular kernel works for your setup.
OK, I think I found the right one but I was also wondering if I could install it when I first installed cm7. When I installed it I saw that it was searching for the kernel and for gapps but didn't find the n and skipped it. Could I install it then

CM7 has the ability to be overclocked as it sets.
settings > CM settings > performance > CPU settings.
just be extremely careful when Overclocking devices. it can takes it's toll in the long run.
and the g/apps are not kernel dependent they are ROM dependent.
OK but what do you mean by gapps are not kernal dependant

On *UNIX based devices. They have a section of the firmware called the "kernel". The kernel accepts the coding, binary and scripts from the RAM/ROM and tells the hardware how to act, what to do, and when to do it.
The g/apps have nothing to do with the kernel.
The g/apps are Google's property and cannot be included in AOSP based ROMs. Those ROMs are developed from Google's code. And developers do not have the ability to add those at will. So we must flash them after/prior (depending on he ROM) to get the Google Apps.
YES! DO IT!
for me its like day and night, it so much smoother with dals OC kernel. and yes you can flash the OC kernel any time. you can flash cm7 rc1 then OC kernel in the same boot. or you can first install cm7 to check it out for a while and then later flash the new kernel. if you planning to flash dal's 6/18 kernel, make sure to get his app NC Tweaks.
NC Tweaks here:

Dal's Kernel here:

thanks. What I want to know is how to flash it. do I do it the same way as gapps( have wifi and reboot in recovery mode) or is there a different way?

You place the over clock zip file in the root of your sd card and flash it through cwm like you would a rom or gapps. So for example you would flash cm7 then gapps then the overclock kernel.
Not to Jack this thread, but I want to update from cm7 old kernel to New nightly build. Does the new kernel flash with the nightly?

When you move from stable cm7 to cm7 nightly the new kernel is included. However the included kernel is overclockable only to 975mhz. If you want a higher clock speed you'll have to use dals 6182011 kernel, up to 1200mhz.

I'm not following you cannot use just a Cyanogen(mod) kernel. They are built into their ROMs.

The latest nightly should be considered stable. It is in release candidate stable for the next stable build. The next stable build should be released in the next couple of days.

There is a Clockwork ROM Manager and a ClockworkMod Recovery image.
Together they are known as "CWM" Since one is a recovery and the other is a ROM manager.
Just curious to know. Which one is the best kernel for Official CM7.1 in term of :
1. 3G/WiFi connection
2. Battery consumption
3. Stability and smooth running/scrolling
I tried FXP028 Kernel, FXP030 Kernel and the one that is included with the CM7.1, i lost network connection after about 15 minutes with all of them.
i tried fxp028 oc kernel and i have some lag with oc or not.now i have fxp030 kernel and the rom is almost perfect, without any problem or lag.the only thing is missing is oc but the rest is ok.
For me 28 is the best so far
Working:
WiFi
Camera (video)
no voice volume problems
maybe 31 will bring some fixes for those bugs
How to transform kernel.sim to kernel.ftf????
FXP028 works best for me, got WiFi and 3G problems with others.
use Finally, FXP030 kernel: http://www.mediafire.com/?830j5v1qe556638 by blagus
Benchmark results
Spare hour, flashtool, and benchmarks
Code:
fps2d NeoCore AnTuTu
avg stddev RAM CPU Int CPU FP 2D 3D sum
028 OC 2.6.29 semcuser 768MHz 50 3,82 36,5 139 255 185 262 405 1246
028 fxp 2.6.29 semcuser 600MHz 54 5,36 42,2 109 198 143 270 429 1149
030 FXP 2,6,29 blagus--- 600MHz 51 5,51 42 110 198 143 250 440 1141
030 CM7 2.6.29 semcuser 600MHz 54 6,08 41,9 110 198 142 269 432 1151
Looks like OCing make ram and CPU better, but cost in 2D/3D
I set Performance governor, boot phone, wait for desktop, check version then run benchmarks one by one 2 times. Posted better results.
This is clean rom, no additional lines in build.prop or 99tweaks or something.
Tried to flash LDX004 and stock kernel under this rom but both stuck on bootlogo. Looks like this always need to be combo kernel+rom.
I`m stick to official CM7 now
http://www.multiupload.com/2SA5U1AWT8 flashable kernel (created bundle form sin).
can someone please post the 28 kernel??
got wifi problems with 30..
Only FXP ROM 028 have "normal" sound when dialing. 030 and CM71 are VERY quiet.
Looks like dialer or some sound lib are broken.
Flashed CM71 kernel under FXP028 rom. It is best combination I found so far.
FPS2D: avg=63; stdev=7,46
Neocore: 38.2
AnTuTu: ram=109, CPU int=200, CPU fp=143, 2D=264, 3D=439, sum=1155

Kernel is not same thing as rom. Do not confuse that 2 things.
Kernel will be always flashed by flashtool, rom via CWM.
From your post I assume you installed CM71 rom + FXP028 kernel? Or like I do CM71 kernel + fxp028 rom? ;]

Phone feels responsive. I always thought about new kernel/new rom, but it might be a good idea to test different mixes. I'll see about incall volume (too low) and speakers (too high), wi-fi stability and 3G.

hello for everyone.
i have a problem that i can´t resolve,i install GingerDX v19 and flashed Alfs for GingerDX and intall Update-Vold and wiped cache but my phone stuck in freexperia logo.when i wipe cache i receive some error that say"cache partition can´t be found".
i have xperia x8 E15i with baseband 015.
i see other users with the same problem.
my question is,what should i do to make phone boot properly?
someone please help.
thanks
I've installed GingerDX on LinuxDX kernel, then flashed Alf's kernel, and without wiping or doing anything just after Alf's kernel flash I've got to the CWM (right after flash... on first boot after) and installed Vold-update zip.
Phone booted normally, swap is working and default clock is 710MHz...
Try to:
1)Flash LinuxDX
2)Install GingerDX
3)Flash Alf's kernel
4)On first boot do not let system to boot... Enter CWM and install Vold-update, then reboot...
i go try this now.i reply your solution soon.thanks

Maybe... I got 64 FPS on 729 Mhz
when i see that kernel working i installed gingercruzt rev 8.1.but first i delete some modules in system/lib/modules then flash the rom and vod update and i think that is the most smooth 2.3 rom.i install gingercruzt because that rom with stock kernel is very stable, fast in heavy games and the best battery combination and have a beautifull theme.

Hi, i have a problem too, i can't find a decent rom which is stable and with fully working wiki, buttons and etc.
I wanted to flash to original Baltic V20D version, but i can't find it on the internet, lg's links are gone.. So what do you reccomend to do?
Maybe someone can provide a working link to an original rom, or recommend a stable rom in which everything works?
Recently i tried to flash to Baltic V20B but sometimes phone is turning off with no reason, it wasn't happening when i had 1.6 original version.
I use CyanogenMod 9 | Projects IceCreamSwift - Android 4.0.4 | by miroslav_mm with 256mb swap and OC'd 245-800Mhz. It works well. I play hd games from gameloft.
I don't know i can't install it through recovery menu. Maybe there is other method for this rom?

The only rom ( and kernel as well ) that's being balanced towards stability and performance is CM7 by tejas ( build three currently ) I tested all GT540 roms and i find it to be best for person who want daily rom with ability to play games. Don't get me wrong, SDSL ( with revo .29 kernel ) is pretty good as well but it lacks stability after some time of use, it also has worse battery life and battery indication level. Not mentioning the fact that .29 kernel roms are not as smooth as the .32 ones. The only drawback of .32 pcfighter kernel is wifi error but it doesn't happen often with latest tejas build.
Try AOSP 2.3 , very stable
