I just bought one on eBay for $250
What do you guys think?
They're all going to drop in price when the T2 releases with ICS! (next month)
So is paying $250 too much for it?

A500 or A100? New or used? Warranty? I think you're asking how it compares to the current selling price? With more info you can get an answer to your question.

by T2 you mean Transformer 2 right? which is actually the Transformer Prime, and not launching with ICS. But like every other tablet, getting ICS soon
But yeah, the price on ALL tablets are going to be dropping soon anyway. With updated models coming out and Christmas sales, not to mention the impending ICS release, tablets are going to be a hot item this holiday shopping season. I may even pick up another one if I find a good enough deal

Look, I'm not trying to argue but you keep pushing. You're like one of those people who always has to be right no matter what... Yes, it was supposed to be released yesterday, and yes, they also pushed it to December. That happens all the time. They did not say why, however. They never officially stated that it was for ICS. That was only speculation. They did, however, say ICS would be coming to both Transformer's before the end of the year. Whether or not the TP launches with ICS is still unconfirmed. Until Asus makes an official statement, it is only speculation. Could it be true? Possibly. But it's still unconfirmed, nonetheless.
Look. I can post links too: http://www.bgr.com/2011/11/09/asus-...-land-in-early-december-with-tegra-3-for-500/

All the major tech blogs have said the Prime will launch with 3.2 in December, with ICS following as an upgrade. Since they're getting their info straight from the vendor, I would count them as more credible than some guy on an online forum.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/5073/asus-transformer-prime-detailed-quadcore-tegra-3-tablet
"The Transformer Prime is expected to launch in the US in December with Android 3.2. ASUS is hinting at more details on Ice Cream Sandwich availability at the launch of the Prime next month. Based on what I've heard, I wouldn't expect ICS on Tegra 3 until early next year."
http://techland.time.com/2011/11/09/asus-transformer-prime-is-the-first-quad-core-android-tablet/
"For software, the Transformer Prime runs Android 3.2, but not for long; Asus promises to upgrade the tablet to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) later in December. The upgrade will bring new features like built-in photo editing, better speech-to-text and a system-wide spell checker."
http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/09/transformer-prime-detailed-10-inch-super-ips-display-12-hour/
"Software-wise, it'll ship with Android 3.2 and apps such as SuperNote and Polaris Office, and we're told we'll learn more about that ICS update in 'early December.'"
http://www.theverge.com/2011/11/9/2...-prime-pricing-release-date-quad-core-tegra-3
"There's no doubt it sounds like the best Android tablet to date, and while it won't launch with Ice Cream Sandwich, Asus is promising an over-the-air update very soon after the early December release."

No blogs here:
"ASUS’ Eee Pad Transformer Prime, the second-gen Transformer, may have its launch pushed back into December, so as to arrive running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich according to the latest rumors. Google has agreed to help ASUS develop ICS for the Tegra 3 based Transformer Prime, DigiTimes‘ supply chain sources reckon, in an attempt to persuade the company not to shift its focus to Windows 8 tablets instead."
http://www.slashgear.com/asus-trans...ushed-to-dec-for-ice-cream-sandwich-08193892/
"For all of you Asus Transformer fans we have some good and bad news for you. The November 9th launch date for the Transformer Prime has been pushed back to sometime in December. Yes, this is a bummer dudes. I too was looking forward to some NVIDIA quad-core tablet goodness sometime this month.
But, on the other hand, the good news is that apparently Google is willing to help Asus in preparing the tablet so that it ships with ICS on board at launch. That’s cool, right?! We will just have to wait it out for about another month because you know the big G wants their Galaxy Nexus to be the first to arrive on scene rocking the new Android 4.o operating system. And by the way things have been lately, we all should be used to this waiting game by now… or at least expect it."
http://www.talkandroid.com/71362-asus-delays-transformer-prime-to-december-ics-on-board/
"Asus has yet to officially announce the Eee Pad Transformer Prime — that’s supposed to happen tomorrow. And while it was originally slated to launch some time later this month, the Tranformer Prime has now been pushed back to December so that Asus can ship the tablet with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich pre-installed. Google has agreed to lend a hand to make sure the transition to ICS is a smooth one for Asus."
http://www.geek.com/articles/gadget...old-till-december-pending-ics-update-2011118/
"There’s news floating around that Asus has delayed the release of the Transformer Prime tablet, from November to December, in order to get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on-board at launch. Google is assisting Asus in order to complete the process as quickly as possible. It’s unclear at this point if Asus still plans to announce the tablet on November 9th like they previously scheduled, or if that’s been pushed back as well. Stay tuned."

There's a difference between rumors and facts. What were quoted in the links I provided were info straight from the vendor from the Prime's official announcement date (11/09/2011). What you're quoting are rumors and gossip. From your own link,
http://www.slashgear.com/asus-trans...ushed-to-dec-for-ice-cream-sandwich-08193892/
"according to the latest rumors"
Please note that this particular blurb was on the 8th, a day before the official announcement.
The other links you provided are merely gossip. Given the tendency of sites to copy-paste content from each other, rumor propagation is rife. Note that all the sites you mentioned are quoting the same rumor.
Regardless of how you parse these, it's as the other poster said, that we'll know for certain when it ships. It's not a big deal either way. The main reason that I replied is because of your juvenile responses to the other poster, with petty put-downs and personal attacks. They were uncalled for.
e.mote, i know you're right, but just let him believe what he wants. obviously when i said he's one of those guys who always has to be right, i hit the nail right on the head. his response to me was totally out of line, even after i point out that it's all speculation and we won't know the truth until we get closer to the actual launch. it should be left at that.
now let's get back on topic.

Wow according to this website Asus transformer has 3.1!!!!
Hopefully Acer A500 gets it soon
Looks like they got hold of a little pre-release action. At the end it says "We're told this update will be available to the public in the near future." Come on Acer!
I wouldn't hold my breath for the update, especially since it's coming from Acer.
Google provided to the OEM... and it's up to the individual (Acer) to tweak it to their device...who know how Acer is handling this ( timewise )
interestingly...on one of the picture...it show that Asus uses the same kernel as our Acer...
Kernel 2.6.36.3-00001-gf377a2b
http://hothardware.com/newsimages/item17461/big_android3.jpg
That could pose a potential with our Acer updates as the recent confusion shown with recent updates, they are getting rid of the part after the number to shorten form --->> 2.6.36.3
here we go again !!
why is everyone so quick to assume Acer won't give timely updates? The iconias only been out for a month here, and its already received one bug update, and they already stated that 3.1 is coming in june. Patience is a very important virtue. ;-)

Entitlement issues, product envy, buyers remorse. God forbid another device get an update before the A500...it seems.
Happy with mine. Hope 3.1 does big things, but really happy with mine so far.
Yea i love my acer and they anounced it would be out first half of june, chill out.
Acer FB page says 3.1 will be available at the end of June.
I've only bought one Acer product and they've done alright by me so far. I've had it 3 weeks and already one update. That's light-years better than Samsung/T-mobile with the Galaxy phones.
soild update not a rushed one
OK this update will come when its complete and not full of bugs and fixes.from what I have heard we have less bugs then most of those tabs and better connectivity then the others.
Acer. We need a User end user recovery.one that does not make us leave out tablets stock.where. we can install and del the apps we want ina piece of hardware we paid for.
So unlock bootloader or atlest give a recovery method. That does not require me tobsend my tab in for recovery.
In afraid to install apps because of compatibility. Seinfeld im past my exchange date
Play nice Acer I know you watch this forum.
Im good at selling on ebay
the 18 month rule
Acer will give us the updates timely, the 18 month rule is there also for google to see who is good at releasing updates and keeping products up to date. If acer does not update in a timely manner. I can only assume that acer will not get early builds of new OS's. There fore shutting them out of the tablet game.

3.1 has been available for the Xoom before the Xformer - 3.1 is just around the corner for the A500. Acer was recently highlighted as a close partner with Google at their recent I/O Conference so future upgrades are without doubt.

Please, stop with disinformation. Acer just came out with this tablet and a month or so later we all just got this great update. Now 3.1 is coming. You act as if they should personally call you every day for your approval. This tablet is great and updates have come. Why complain about what they just released which really enhanced everything for this tablet? You disinformation agents get to me because you are so easy to spot. Always complaining even when the company does things right.

It is because they mostly work for the competition. They get people to be dissatisfied with their purchase. Then you buy their products instead. Manufacturers are all over forums like these pushing one product down while promoting other products which are usually their competing products lol. Happens a lot. Ymmv here.

It doesn't matter what processor ics is made for. I highly doubt the a500 will get ics. When it comes out acer will introduce a new tab to make more money. It doesn't matter if the a500 could run it or not. Now we may have custom roms but I'm 99.9% sure nothing official.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
there is one reason why ACER might not port ICS to the A500, the A500 is not a phone, the A501 is possibly more into getting updated to ICS.
From what I understand (read somewhere), is that according to google policy, vendors are supposed to support their devices with new versions of Android for 18 months. Since the A500 was released in April, it should still be getting updates until Oct 2012 and ICS is supposed to be out by the end of this year.
If Acer doesn't provide ICS for the A500, they are going to have A LOT of unhappy customers which would hurt them for future products.
My bet is that we'll get it sometime early next year.

But you're just speculating.
Google has already stated that ICS will be AOSP'ed, so worst case scenario we'll at least be able to get native 3rd party ROMs for our A500's as long as the developer community remains strong.
Am I the only one smelling a troll around here?
However, the 18 months update policy is for the Android Alliance Partners only, which unfortunately doesn't include Acer AFAIK.

You had to be part of the Open Handset Alliance to get the source code for Honeycomb. Google wanted more control on this particular release to keep vendors from trying to use it on a regular phone.
From the "leaked" photos I'm not really impressed with the ice cream sandwich update. It might be nice on phones but I love honeycomb on tablets. Yes there could be some improvement but overall honeycomb is great.
ACER could get alot of good geek buzz, if they update to ICS and open the bootloader up.

Ah, but an update to an OS and a NEW OS version are two entirely different things. Updates are point releases and bug fixes. You confuse the two, methinks. I deal with a lot of business contracts and I think I can speak with a bit of confidence that there's no way Google would force vendors to do major updates. Besides, if they did that you would now have Honeycomb on some phones... Obviously they can't because you can't even guarantee the same hardware will run the next major release.

Again I disagree - sure there might be some irritated people on these forums, but the average consumer is now buying this tablet from Wal Mart of all places. That means they ain't all geeks anymore and probably won't even know when ICS is released.
The real trick is to buy like the manufacturers intended. Buy a tablet that does what you want RIGHT NOW. If you can't do that, don't buy because there's absolutely no guarantee that it will do what you want later.
It's like buying a Ford hoping for a free update to Jaguar before your warranty expires. Okay so it's nothing like that. But it is.

Thanks Asus you are not like LG.
Hope to see ICS in our Transformers soon
I previously owned the early 7" Galaxy Tab - while I loved it, it was pretty obvious Samsung was not pro-active (and known as such) about iterative Android updates.
When I picked up my TF and dock, it had the onerous typing lag and with patience, updates rolled out - the lag was fixed, and I was happy I waited; Other companies don't support this as nicely as Asus does, and I'm really pleased with them for this.

This hopefully does mean the first-gen TF is getting ICS, and we've heard that from Pocket Lint, too, so it seems likely.
However, I wouldn't read that tweet as confirmation. The second-gen TF is also an EeePad Transformer, after all -- so it could easily be read as meaning ICS is coming to the series, not the first-gen specifically.
That's awesome! Asus has been great about getting updates out. Kudos to them, that goes a long way to customer loyalty.
That Transformer Prime is looking to be pretty sweet too.

I've had the HTC Hero and the Samsung Epic 4G on Sprint and while XDA development was/is fantastic on both, the manufacturers really dropped the bomb on updating to Eclair/Froyo for Hero and Froyo/Gingerbread for Epic. Glad to see that ASUS is working diligently on updating their devices in a timely manner and communicating the process nicely with their users. Kudos to ASUS, I will definitely buy another product from them in the future.

Citation please? I'd like this to be right, but I have not seen any such statement directly from Asus (or attributed to a specific individual at Asus) so far.
All I've seen is Asus saying the Transformer will get ICS (could be TF101, could be Transformer Prime), and third parties saying "anonymous" sources at Asus said the TF101 would get ICS.
Like I said though, I'd really like this to be right, so I'm hoping you've got a citation lined up and ready. ;-)

All I've seen is Asus saying the Transformer will get ICS (could be TF101, could be Transformer Prime), and third parties saying "anonymous" sources at Asus said the TF101 would get ICS.
Like I said though, I'd really like this to be right, so I'm hoping you've got a citation lined up and ready. ;-)

Different business strategy. Samsung focuses more on selling their products to people through advertisement. Asus focuses more on selling their products by post-sale support.
In fact, I can't think of another company that rolls out updates as often as asus.

OK, thanks for the info. Given that they don't say it will be hitting *existing* tablets, I wouldn't read that as proof positive. It could just be saying they'll be shipping new tablets with ICS. We can but hope.
Asus has been doing an amazing job at updates and I give them credit quite frequently. From my netbooks to my transformer... they've always been awesome at delivering a quality product and supporting it. I think ICS will come to the transformer around the end of the year, giving their new tablet 2 months lead with ICS.
The original transformer is still a great tablet and in fact I have several people looking at pricing for the original once the new one comes out. We may see the TF for $299 or $250. Hellofadeal.
LG G2x - 2.3.5 MIUI
Asus Transformer - 3.2 Revolver
Can't wait.

Hi,
Pocket Lint made an unambiguous statement, quoting Asus. It reads legitimately to me.
As a new poster I can't give you a link, but it is on pocket-lint (dot) com /news/42628/asus-eee-pad-transformer-ice-cream-sandwich
Its expected sometime after the middle of November for the original TF. Like anything else though it could be delayed or even cancelled. There's no concrete date set. Just keep those fingers crossed.
Great news
hope that they unlock the bootloaders on the locked tabs
As i have been reading on asus.com, our transformer can already update to 4.0 ics?!
You might want to check treir speccs of our transformer:
Android 3.2 Honeycomb O.S.(4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgradable) with Adobe® Flash® 10.2 support
So, who the hell can already update his device?? Well, i cant :-(
Link: http://www.asus.com/Eee/Eee_Pad/Eee_Pad_Transformer_TF101/#download
Asus made a comment that by the end of the year the transformer would get an update to ics...I think that they are just telling you when available you will get ics
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
It says "upgradeable" on the item description, if you check the download section Honeycomb 3.2.1 as below is available.
V8.6.5.13 Only for US SKU (Android 3.2.1)
It's available for multiple SKU, not just US.
It's dated 19 October 2011 so it's quite recent. When they'll have ICS up only they know for sure.

Yes it has the capability to upgrade to ICS when it is available. That doesn't mean today.
Sales pitch, like the Xoom was upgradable from 3g to LTE.
Android 3.2 Honeycomb O.S.(4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgradable) with Adobe® Flash® 10.2 support*2
read carefully
Upgradable does not always means u can upgrade now, it means aslo it is able to be upgraded to 4.0
thats the point, case closed, (and if it says upgradeable its only for testers)
I'll be honest and say that the Asus Transformer was not something that appealed to me but with the announced specs of the Transformer 2, it has really got me excited. One thing that is really important is the update support from Asus. From what I can gather, it seems like Asus are pretty on the ball with releasing timely updates for the Transformer? Is this really true? The fact that it seems like ICS will be released on the original Transformer is a great confidence booster.
Comments/Suggestions all welcome.

ASUS has been the best, bar none, at updating their Android tablet. Samsung still hasn't updated the Galaxy Tab 10.1 to 3.2, for example, although they've announced that ICS will be coming to it someday. This is just one reason why I've become a huge ASUS fan since buying my Transformer.

That's very encouraging. However, I'm not a massive early adopter so I'll probably wait for some decent reviews and for Asus to release ICS update before I take the plunge. I really want a tablet that can run Android buttery smooth and really think the TF2 is the one.
Please, less threads on the ICS update...

It already runs buttery smoothe. Much better than anything else I've used with android. If you want to save money I would get the first one. If money isn't an issue I would definitely wait and grab the Prime. The other tablets are jokes compared to these.

Well that is certainly reassuring. I was thinking of getting the TF101 (people told me to wait for the Prime, but I thought the hardware on the TF101 is fine). As long as the TF101 runs ICS without a hick I'll be happy. ICS is designed for dual core processors, right?

Price is not my primary concern but video play back is as that is what I will be mainly using it for. The tegra2 chips are all really poor for video decoding which is why I haven't invested in a tablet yet. The Asus prime and Toshiba excite are the only tablets that I know (coming out before xmas) that have a better chip than the tegra2 for video decoding. Both are really sexy and seem worth spending the extra on over current cheaper tablets. I guess I'll find out for sure when tjd tablets are properly released and reviews start trickling down.
As far as dual core goes I'm unsure what ics is doing. All I know is honeycomb runs great so if ics runs better I'll be stoked.

I agree! Too many ICS update and ICS Port(s) threads! I work in Western Australia's mining boom so I'm cash rich but time poor (for how long, is a crash coming?). I seem to spend hours reading these threads, enjoyable though they are,
What I need is either a way for the XDA system or a human being to alert me when a "mostly" working port (ICS Port release candidate?) or Upgrade (for field testing) is available. I have 5 Android devices atm so if a beta release has problems on one of them, I'll still be able to stay in contact with the developers any of the others.
Maybe a technical report whenever there's real progress for which I would pay, specially if it gets written up in somewhere like India where English skills are high, and the exchange rate is good (about 50 Rupees to the dollar atm!)
Find a few more customers like me, live in a place with low cost of living, and you've got yourself a viable business, it would seem.
Hint I have receive pm set up for xda.
I'm gonna wait to upgrade until I see how the new Samsung is with it's high res display tablet next year. Also what iPad 3 will be like.
OK, that's it. I am officially sick of hearing about Ice Cream Sandwich.
Or, more to the point, I am sick of not hearing about it, and seeing the same thing posted over and over again and old threads being bumped for no good reason.
Acer ANZ have given a release date for ICS for the A500 on their facebook fan page, and as usual for acer their promises of an april release have turned into more lies, their release date in answer to a question on their page is May 17.
Doesn't matter really, they haven't said no. There's plenty of aftermarket versions that work fine anyway.

Yes! End the lies! MAKE them release the OTA update in April. Whether it's finished or not. Whether it's full of bugs or not. Getting it soon is far more important than getting it right!
...or maybe not

The problem people have with dates is that they only look at the date and not the rest of what is said.
The Acer webpage says the date for the A500 update is TBA Mid April.
TBA means To Be Announced mid April.
Seems to me that since it is early April and not mid April, they are ahead of schedule.
But they are guilty of being late in the past.
Still, do not go by Facebook. It is not reliable for Acer announcements.
Acer ANZ is Datacom Manila, a closed group of 64.
Does not sound like an official Acer site to me.
Oh yea, here is the Acer webpage.

This will be my last Acer product until their management changes their priorities.
So far I've been deeply disappointed by the timeliness of their updates. Moto and Asus have already pushed ICS to their hardware and the Asus tabs has vastly superior hardware compared to Acer offerings.
I guess Acer is just not very attuned to their customers' needs and that's disheartening as an owner.
I second this. I listed mine on craigs list today.

Let's see, I bought my A500 in August and it was loaded with 3.0. I quickly got the update to 3.1 and fairly soon received 3.2. What do you want, 5 major OS versions in a years time? Seriously, people... relax. Even if you have to only wait 2 more weeks, you're selling your tablet? I'm calling shenanigans.
Learn patience. A good, bug-free update, especially one with this many changes, is worth the wait. And if you're THAT impatient, root the darned thing and load one of the many ICS versions that many developers have to offer.
/end rant, but not before a general facepalm

Can we chill a little bit? 3% of android devices are on ICS. Thats it. It's not like we're the last ones waiting for an update.....
If you will be watching the frequency and the increasing quality of the ICS leaks in the Dev section, you can expect the official ics update soon. And if you don't want to wait just install one of the marvelous ics custom roms. The improvement over hc is huge! !
With best regards, maris

I totally agree. but i was just making note that there are other options. If a company sets itself apart from the others in a way they Support what customers want. Right now that company could Take many customers from the pack. People are sick of devices becoming obsolete and disposable in a year or less. And locked down tighter then FT KNOX. (i live about 10 minutes from there) I can tell its very secure.
As far as locked bootloaders, the vast majority of phone users don't even know of the possibility of modding... let alone have any desire to do it. The same goes for updates. People on sites like this represent the small minority of users. The typical tablet or phone user wakes up one day, looks at their device, sees a box saying there's an update, presses OK and goes on with their lives.
They bought their device based upon the user experience, not some vague hope that some major change will happen... sometime... soon.
Hello everybody, this is my forst post, so be comprehensive...
If someone wants an Acer ICS build there is the latest "leak 1.031" on the Developer section which is very easy to install - download the zip file, rename it to "Update.zip", put it on your extSD and reboot while holding "power" + "vol-".
I never did any mods to my A500 since I bought it, never rooted or so, but lately it was starting to freeze and force close quite a lot so I updated it manually and am very satisfied - running very smooth, web browsing is much faster (using ICS browser+) and everything seems to work perfectly! I'm just saying that it's a very simple way to get stable ICS without doing any complicated things (CWM, root, kernel mods, etc...)
Cheers!

While we wait, I have to wonder if the general number of us were polled as to WHY we want ICS, what the reasons would be? I'd like to have it, but honestly I don't know of any compelling reason aside from the fact that it is something new.
I'll bet once we get it not much time will pass before we are Jonesing for Jelly Bean for the same silly reason.
I'm running Thor's HC ROM on mine, and very happy with that. It runs well and everything works. What more could I realistically ask for? What's ICS supposed to bring us, anyway?
