Once you unlock it for AT&T it will only function on EDGE, correct me if I'm wrong, not too sure if this phone is compatible with AT&T 3G network....most likely it will not.

oh.. do you know if the G2 or MyTouch 3g Slide is the same
Is the same for all t-mo phones. The Frequencies used by at&t and t-mobile for 3g are different. The most you will get is EDGE, and we all know that EDGE SUCKS
No 3g wont work. only 2g/edge will work as att and Tmobile have different data radios. If you have the old dataplan for att and don't want to pay 15 for 200mbs get a vibrant. If your lucky it'll pick up the 850mhz 3g band to get 3g for at&t. And you'll keep the old data plan because att wont pickup the imei of the vibrant.

Do you think hd2 owners who have at&t will get to use tmobiles wavelength and finally get more than edge network from this happening??
For reference if new to this subject at&t and tmobile both have an EDGE network on the same wavelength so on an unlocked tmobile hd2 one can use the slow 2g internet connection of at&t, but the 3g networks run off of different bands so an at&t # can't connect to any 3g whatsoever, with at&t's purchase of tmobile wouldn't at&t have to utilize tmobiles 3g wavelength in order to still provide 3g and 3.5g to everyone with tmobile phones that aren't compatible with at&t's current network? If so then I'm personally benefitting from this and finally getting a decent mobile data speed on my tmobile phone with my at&t network
Please don't bash at&t here, I know they suck, I've used their service for quite some time now, I'm just looking for opinions and facts on this matter
and I know euro hd2's already pick up at&t 3g, I'm talking about tmous hardware
From what I have read it seems that in a year or so if this deal is accepted by the FCC at&t will reuse and refit tmobiles network towers/equipment to use there 4g LTE network and give it a boost while removing T-Mobile service altogether causing us T-Mobile 3g/4g users to get new phones that work on AT&T's data network so in your case I highly doubt it there really isn't a benefit for AT&T or T-mobile other then T-Mobile users will be able to have different range of phones (mostly iPhone) I really hope the FCC denies this deal not only does it kills another service provider option limiting us to 3 major companies and forces people escaping the high price of service from sprint, Verizon, and At&t (I've been on them all and left because of price and QOS) but also makes AT&T top dog just because they bought out another company
Yea I read about this yesterday. Highly pissed off. I can't stand at&t. Crappy phone signal, high prices, and crappy customer service. I hope this deal does not go through. Just like when sprint was supposed to buy tmobile. Hopefully it's just a rumor.

Actually I have read that its the exact opposite......AT&T has planned to upgrade all of Tmobiles service towers to the 4G LTE, leaving all T-Mobile Branded 3g phones unable to access

yeah, about 5 minutes after i posted this i saw the article stating that at&t is decommissioning tmobile's 3/3.5g towers to use them for their LTE, too bad at&t is already selling "4g" phones (ie the atrix and the inspire 4g) with no capability of utilizing TRUE 4g via LTE later on... anyone else think at&t will re-release said phones as LTE devices for $50 more than the hspa versions? i cant wait to switch to verizon personally, but im waiting for a htc pyramid compatible with verizons 4g network to switch
I received a letter from tmobile if I wanted to attend a meeting/conference for San Jose, Ca becuase my current phone service will be upgraded.... not removed....
Is this confirmed yet? If so, I am going to be HIGHLY pissed off. I HATE AT&T with a passion and refuse to use their service.
Is it possible to unlock my HD2 and my fiancee's Galaxy S Vibrant to use on Sprint or Verizon?

No, only for gsm networks, which is now going through an approval process to become a single gsm network, not confirmed until the fcc gives the word though so keep your fingers crossed!

No Tmobile and AT&T use sim cards and use totally different frequencies
If the deal passes I highly doubt that the T-mobile name will continue for long. Especially since both carriers operate on the voicestream network. This will combine T-mobile's few towers with ATT's many towers. But as someone mentioned earlier niether of these two have real 4G. It ticks me off when I see comercials calling it 4G. Only verizon is rolling out true 4G in LTE.
And in case you haven't heard. T-mobile was going down hill. They were losing money. There were talks of Sprint buying them at first. So it may be a good thing with ATT buying them up.
Hi guys, I have sprint and get a discount . I want internet on my tab I'm tired of tethering from my phone . I'm thinking of getting the HTC view 4g. I did a search didn't come up with much . Thanks

Being that Verizon and Sprint use two different bandwidths I'm going to say it wont work. Its like trying to pick up FM with an AM radio.

Sprint and Verizon's 3G are compatible with each other. That's why Sprint phones can, or used to be able to, roam on Verzion's network...
Sprint and Verizon's 4G networks are not compatible, though.
Sprint and VZW still roam off each other... so the freq's aren't an issue.
I guess it depends on whether or not you upgraded to the 4G radio.
Can it operate on Sprints network? yes, will sprint allow it? probably not. Sprint employees have to let the device work on the network and technically they're not supposed to do that, but if you're good friends with a sprint technician maybe you can talk them into it.
I have a G2x and have NOOOOO data where I live currently. I tried to cancel my contract (because I was told being in the military you send a copy of your orders you can cancel without a fee) but t-mobile won't do it.
I have the G2x set to roam and I pick up some edge service (I assume at&t)
I know the G2x doesn't have at&ts 4g band.
I read an article about the HTC amaze being able to hop on at&t and pick up 4g signal. Is there any old cheap T-mobile phone I can unlock to pick up at&t's 3g with ? I don't need 4g, I just want some service.
I have a family plan with my wife and I can't afford $400 in termination fees and $200-$400 in phones with verizon. Any valid input would be greatly appreciated.
No there is nothing cheap that will do that, and no phone will do it with the T-mobile SIM card in it. Doesn't the G2X have wi-fi calling? The Amaze and Tmobile GS2 can have ATT radios flashed to them, but they will only pick up 3G and 4G with an ATT sim.
No cell company will cancel your contract with military orders. If you show them orders for deployment or an extended TDY they will suspend your contract, but not cancel it.
Thanks for the response. There was a guy in my shop that said he didn't have service at work and they let him off (I guess the rep has a choice?)
As far as wifi calling I just put gingerbread on today so now I have wifi calling. My wife has an old POS phone (because tmobile upgrade her contract when they weren't supposed to...don't get me started on that I'm am SOOO mad a T-mobile.)
So I can't buy a AT&T 3g phone unlock it and put a T-mobile sim in? So I get access to the data I'm paying for every month?

You will get data just not 3g or above. This is hardware dependent.

I know the G2x doesn't have the proper radio to pick up at&t 3g/4g. I was wondering if any other phone did. I read this article
http://phandroid.com/2011/11/08/t-mobiles-htc-amaze-4g-compatible-with-att-3g4g/
It states that somebody on this forum actually used the tmobile htc amaze on at&t 3g/4g network. Is there any truth to this ?
ahhhhhh....I just noticed it said with at&t sim card. Setting the phone to roam with a tmobile sim would essentially do the same thing no ?
Have you gotten the updated SIM card?

The T-mobile Galaxy S II, Amaze and Galaxy Nexus will all work and give you HSPA+ on both AT&T and T-mobile assuming the devices are unlocked
What about trading someone plans or something? Like I'm thinking of trading for a T-Mobile phone since I got the $30 prepaid plan but only get Edge on my D3.

I am planning on Straight Talk $45 unlimited 1mo plan.
https://www.straighttalk.com/secure/ServicePlans
From some internet research it looks like the best bet is to get the t-mobile compatible sim (since service prbs are with at&t compatible sim).
The problem is, t-mobile compatible sim is only full-sized - not for nexus 4 micro sim. Contracted their customer service, they confirmed no t-mobile compatible microsim.
Now I have two options:
1. get the at&t compatible microsim
2. get t-mobile full sized sim and then use sim cutter.
Which way to go?

I am not going to stay with t-mobile, I am talking about straighttalk t-mobile compatible sim.
http://www.straighttalk.com/ShopSims
Depends
It all depends on what you rather have. I personally will be going to Straight Talk too, but with the ATT sim.
ATT will offer better coverage (Also better wall penetration) in most parts of the USA, while T-mobile lacks in the coverage department they have great speeds in areas where they provide HSPA+. But as soon as you leave those areas if you travel a lot then you will be on EDGE a lot more.
I have seen people on the ATT Straight Talk getting 3mbs/1mbs to 7mbs/3mbs and those on T-mobile getting 7mbs/3mbs to above 10mbs/4mbs.
But like I said it really depends on what you want, I am leaving sprint so regardless of who I chose it would be a lot better.
If you go with T-mobile just cut the SIM.
I have straight talk and had tmobile b4. Where i live they both have strong signal get bout same speeds. I think tmobile will only help in bigger markets where they have the 42mbps towers not everywhere i tried to check the coverage where the 42 spots our cant really figure it out i live in a medium size market i dont get the 42 speeds here anyway so just something to think about.

You basically spelled it out right there. Which network do you want to use ATT or TMo. If ATT, pick option 1. If TMo, pick 2.
ATT has wider coverage, so you can go to rural areas and still get decent signal. TMo usually craps out when you leave the city.
TMo has better speeds in the city, since most cities' ATT networks are congested compared to TMo (more users). Add to that, since Straight Talk is an MVNO, it gets lower priority at cell towers compared to ATT postpaid and ATT prepaid customers. So you can stand beside someone with an ATT SIM and he has a signal, while your ST SIM gets nothing.
If you have the money to spare to buy 2 SIMs, try the ATT microSIMs first. If you're not satisfied, then get the TMo SI and cut it down. If you have the extra $60 to spare, get them both at the same time, buy a month's service for both, and so a side-by-side comparison.

also, do you use google voice for voicemail? I believe T-Mobile MVNO's don't allow call forwarding (which is what Google Voice does for voicemail). I could be wrong though, so make sure you do your search on that. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1890301
As soon as my contract (and my wife's) is up on AT&T in March, we are going to get the Straight Talk sim for AT&T...mainly because of the reasons other people have mentioned in this thread... plus, when I had the G Nexus, I got a T-Mobile prepaid sim to test it out and T-Mobile HSPA+ was slower here than AT&T.... but go with the coverage that works for you.
For some reason, I'm experiencing very slow data speeds with straight talk ( att Sim) with my nexus 4. Called them to reset my data settings but still no good.
I cut my straight talk/tmobile sim to work in my nexus 4. i refused to use att side of straight talk. so far everything is good no complaints :good:

What are your APN settings? Delete the first proxy, test again. I had a to reset data, then set the phone in airplane mode and back and retested.
I have T-Mobile, have always loved it. The reception in my office had always been on the line, but most of the time, with all my other phones, I've been able to get 3/4g most of the time.
With the n4, I NEVER get 3/4g in my office. Quite frustrating. Thinking about getting st att based on most replies here. Sucks I need to change based on the phone

I've been seriously considering the N4 with st8 talk but I've been a little hesitant because I want it to work everywhere I go i.e. work, home, parents house. if anyone has had the Verizon GNex could you respond with whether it works better or not? What would be the pro/con list? Everyone has opinions, I know, but please only from ppl who have the N4.
Folks, 6Mbps on AT&T's HSPA+ might be as good as you're going to get.
