i really want to get a samsung galaxy s2 or possibly the galaxy nexus if its available on sprint. my contract is up until april though, should i find a way to get a new phone or just wait it out? waiting is hard for me though as i see me friends galaxy s2 screen and its amazing!! the evo screen is just not doing it for me after seeing that =/
If that's the case you could jump on the SGSII and bet set for a while ... but it may also be worth it to sit tight for a minute. Either way you'd be updating. I was holding out hope for the new Nexus, and it still might come - eventually - but I will have gone through the restless stage since then. Unfortunate it won't be here any time soon.
So go with what you think is the best decision. I know my Evo has gotten a bit too long in the tooth. Sounds like Sprint's holiday lineup isn't as impressive as some thought it might be.

Think of it this way: When you are officially up for upgrade in April, will you be fine with getting whatever is going to be available at the time or are you going to want to hold out for whichever device is going to be coming out just a month/couple of months/a few months down the road?
You seem to be very keen on getting a new phone right now. If you were to get the advice to wait until April, would you really take that advice to heart?
Obviously if you can hold off until you're upgrade-eligible you'll be able to get a better price on your phone. If price isn't a concern, then go nuts.
Personally, I'm holding off until the LTE phones start showing up. I don't buy phones outside of the subsidized upgrade period, so whatever I get is something I'll have to live with for a pretty long while. As a result, I'm not going to buy a phone with WiMax.
thanks for the replies. i really do want a new phone but know i should wait. its more of a luxury at this point to buy a new phone when im not too far away from getting the upgrade. i think ill wait and even if a new phone isnt out that i really want, i could always get the sgs2 in april for the discounted price. its tough but i think im going to have to wait it out. was kind of wondering if others were itching for a new phone as well.

I'm definitely 100% getting this phone when it comes out. Perfect timing too, as I get my upgrade in May.
Will you guys be buying this phone?
Best believe I will be getting this! And my upgrade isnt gonna be till oct but I am just gonna buy it or get it for the bday
i voted "i want to but dont have sprint". I have verizon but would definately switch for sprints fairer plans and this beast phone. but i dont think i have ANY sprint coverage in my area. I checked to see how many sprint stores i have in my area and in a 50 mile radius there were only 2!! all other carriers had over 10!! i also dont know anyone with sprint. could anyone tell me how i could get a complete view of how much coverage certain carriers do have in comparison?? i go to there sites but it just seems incomplete
I will be getting this phone for sure! This will be the best phone hands down.
I don't know if I will be getting it the first day out of the gate but I know that I will purchase it shortly after it has been release. I currently have the HTC Vogue and would love to have a larger screen and the flexibility of Android now.
I love how amped so many people are over this phone. I cant wait til release day
I'm going to be all over this the day it comes out! or soon there after. I can't wait to ditch my TP. I'll miss winmo but I won't miss the 2.8" screen or the ancient 528mz processor.
this will without question be replacing my creaky old kaiser with ATT. im looking forward to everything about it and sprints plan pricing.
Will sure get a Supersonic or Desire, haven't fully decided yet!
I think, I'll be taking that day off
After 6 years of being a Cingular/AT&T customer, I am switching to Sprint just for this phone.
if/when there is a gsm version i will get it for sure
but for now i wait...
I've been with AT&T for eight years, and I'm planning on switching to Sprint when this phone comes out. Currently I have a Nokia N97. No Comment........
Been with sprint for...awhile...and I'm sitting on my upgrade for this. I need to get rid of this horrid TP (RAPH800).
I hadnt really thought about a new phone since last week, just because i didnt need one, but now that I have lost my MyTouch 3g i need a new phone.
Im wondering if i should go out and buy the glacier from Tmobile this month at hopefully some discount, or wait a bit more. The thing is, i know there are 2x core coming out in the near future (may?) but i dont know if i can wait 3 months without a phone...
Or should I get another phone (TMOBILE ONLY GUYS) instead of the Mytouch 4G...ive looked at pretty much all their phones and i know people with some other android devices..and i dont want a physical qwerty or the touch sensitive bottom dock buttons... so i think i will be perfectly happy with a MyTouch 4G running CM7.
Any advice please? (and i want to keep this hopefully in the low 200$'s)
I absolutely love this phone (with CM7) and I think this is the best phone I've ever had but, if I was in your position, I would not get it, or at least not right now.
You're right, dual-cores are coming out as early as this spring and this means that you either will get a phone with better tech for the same money (LG 2x, rumored HTC Pyramid, whatever else is rumored for T-mo) or you will be able to get MT4G a lot cheaper as many people (like myself) will start off-loading them to pick-up newer phones.
My advice: if you can wait couple of months - wait. If not - MT4G is the best phone on the market right now and you will not have any regrets with it. For what it's worth, 5 people on CM team own one and that is a good indicator of phone's quality and performance.

Thanks man, I cant really wait 3 months with a crappy nokia 2330 lol...so i guess ill just get the MT4G. And really, would the 2x core change THAT much more? at least in its first months of being released. The mt4g seems super fast already, so would i really need more? and I just found out that I can get it for 30$ from Tmobile so that seems like a great price. Thanks for the reply!

Dual-cores are supposed to be more powerful and more efficient then current procs. No, we will not see THAT much improvement until it's implemented properly.
As I said, if you can't wait - get MT4G, especially for $30 ( I bet you can get on for free if you call loyalty department or go to Costco), you will love it.
I would wait or buy mytouch off craigslist, mine was $250. Thinking of trading it for a nexus s with $75,. Like the phone, but do want to try the nexus s, or I can sell it for $350. Wanting to play with a hd2 then buy a new phone in a few months
This is the most powerful Android T-Mobile device has to offer right now. I am happy with it, and I bought it flat out when it first came out. My contract had expired already and I guess I'm waiting in the future to c if there are any new Androids coming out, but as of now I can afford to wait.
Wow, not really much going on for the 1st day imo. Nothing much on anything coming soon, like in the next few weeks.
I'm sitting on my atrix which is in its box on the fridge waiting to hear of something coming soon on att. Guess I will just return it and get my $ back.
I've been waiting for news on the sgs2 our the samsung infuse. Maybe tomorrow our wed hopefully.
What are your thoughts.

I'm also really interested in hearing about the Samsung Galaxy S II and the Samsung Infuse. Hilariously enough, I went to an AT&T store to get a new SIM for my iPhone 4 so I could give it to my mom, and I asked an employee working there who had a little Samsung badge on his belt if he knew anything about the Infuse's release date. "Samsung Infuse? Never heard of it."
I was at CTIA today. HTC guy said they were going to announce a dual core phone today...Never heard about it. Suppose it's the Pyramid. The booth guy really didn't know very much.
Did go by the Motorola booth and jokingly complain about the Skype, Fake 4G, and other things. The guys just all grinned and blamed it on AT&T.
Galaxy S II no one at the booth would say anything about when it was coming to US.
Playstation phone was nice. Got to see an Arc (from an ericsson guys pocket) it was nice but kind of meh.
All in all I agree I have sore feet and not much else to show for my efforts.
If I had been feeling particularly malicious I would have connected my phone straight to a HDMI cord sans dock and showed the Moto guys what's been done to the phone, but I didn't.
I had the best time at the Nokia booth though. People were really friendly, and down to earth. Had a grea time chatting with a booth guy that was really knowledgeable and we both decided we hope the best comes out of the WP7 deal. I tried to get him to open up about a new "Meego" type phone but he just smiled.
Tomorrow is my last day to return the Atrix and I guess I'm keeping it.
See I had to pay full 535 for it and it just rankles me that I at times feel due to the various issues I'm not getting nor will get the full moneys worth.
Buyers remorse from too much time reading forums I guess.

Me too, same dilemma. I want a SGS II SO bad, but no idea when its being released is so off-putting. i can't wait around in limbo for 2, 3, 4 months. I paid full price for my Atrix as well and am contemplating returning it or not. I'll only get $495 of the $530 i paid though back ($35 re-stocking fee). Hoping CTIA would bring me a reason to take it back, but unfortunately nothing yet.
Well I rationalize that since. I love the phone even with all its flaws I'll enjoy it as is.
Work pays for my base phone bill & data plan so it's like getting the phone for free.

I really need help on my decision to upgrade my phone.
Now, I can wait. I'm not in too much of a rush. I just want to know if I'll be truly satisfied if I upgrade now.
Especially people who already got the Atrix, if they have any regrets, do share.
Just read that AT&T and Samsung are holding a special event May 5! SGS2!!!!!! I guess I'll wait lmao.

I would say wait for a while...there will be a number of new phones out by the time the iPhone 5 comes out.
If you really can't wait, which was my case, go to Best Buy and get either the Atrix or the Inspire. I got the Atrix there for $100 as an upgrade. I have 30 days to return it and no restocking fee lol I most likely will return it before my 30 days are up, but at least I tried it.
Get the Atrix now.
Skip the atrix. I made a mistake buying it right when it first came out. I reget not waiting for the S2.
I feel like the Atrix had potential, but it came short. There's so many mixed opinions on it.
I really hope Samsung announces either the SGS2 or the Nexus S 4G on Thursday. I really want a new phone. I think I'm done being an iPhone user. It sucks when EVERYONE has one.

I had the iPhone 4 and got rid of it before my 30 days cause I felt tied down! I got the Captivate instead and it was great! I felt free to do as I pleased! but it's main issue was the lack of updates and horrible gps...now I'm trying the Atrix and it is amazing compared to other phones I've had! This phone is quick and the battery lasts for a long time! My only issues with it is that I don't like the cameras, power button location and people don't hear me clearly (maybe that is a software issue). If those things were fixed then it would be the greatest phone lol
Personally the Atrix is worth it I love it locked bootloader and all its a beast! Every phone coming out is a wannabe sgs2 overclocked just to keep up, lg optimus 2 bleh its half the man the Atrix is lol, and what else is out there nothing everything else is a 1ghz whimp lol. But I would say wait. I didn't wait to get my lg quantum and a month later att was selling it for a penny yes a penny and waiving the upgrade fee. Boy did I feel like I had been robbed, and att is nutorious for doing stunts like that so again Id say wait a bit.
But thats just my 2 cents

I just switched over to the Atrix this weekend from the iPhone 4, and i wouldn't even consider another apple phone after playing with android. you are so tied down, and limited on the iphone its stupid. I just wished I would have gotten a android phone sooner.
I'm going be switching from Nexus s to atrix, I'm really excited
I just switched from an iPhone 3GS and I already really like it (I've only had it two days, but I had it set up to my liking in a few hours. I would like to eventually root it, but I may give it the 30 day return window just in case).
Everything seems just as smooth and fast (some things faster) as my mom's iPhone 4. There are some things android does better, some things iPhone does better.
To me, the main drawback is the locked bootloader. To me, that impacts the future value of the phone (both for resale and for use). I guess that doesn't matter as much if you upgrade every year, but I don't tend to.
It really comes down to what you're upgrading from.
I had no choice as I had a busted crapberry storm work/personal phone that no longer registered my keystrokes and going back to an crackberry 8830 as my work / personal phone wasn't going to cut it, so I decided to go for the Atrix as my personal phone.
No regrets & plenty of satisfaction as it's my first Android phone that was built for Android But if the Samsung Galaxy S II comes out within the next 15 days, my Atrix goes back for an exchange
Forget the atrix, go for the galaxy s2. As soon as my s2 arrives my atrix is going on ebay. Screw this locked bootloader business. Also, the screen is crap

Well I'm disappointed with samsung's announcement today. I was really hoping for the gs2. The infuse is way too big and the specs aren't what I wanted. I might just wait until the iPhone 5 and compare my choices then between the android phones out at the time and the new iPhone.

awesome, cant wait
While I hate the locked bootloader and the slow-going data speed improvements, I knew about them before I got the phone and I have had very few issues with the atrix performing as it should. However many developers there are for this phone, they have made the modifications that are possible easy to implement and help work through bugs very willingly. Granted, I am coming from the samsung eternity- and I am embarrassed to admit that- but this forum has given me hope that this phone can reach its potential. I got an early upgrade at no extra cost, would not even be upgrade eligible today, so I was locked in with at &t but knew I could never be an apple tart. The car dock rocks the house, errrr, car.

Well, I have an iPhone 3GS. My upgrade isn't until August but my mom's account is due for an upgrade. I'm not sure if I want to keep going with an iPhone but supposedly Apple is going to do a new UI and it might have a 4" screen which is perfect. Android has really been interesting me. My favorite thing is the notification system. It's just so perfect. I'm probably gonna wait and hopefully at WWDC, Apple will show off the new iOS, and if it's enough to wow me, I'll probably getting the iPhone 5 once it comes out.
Who is going to make the jump?
I have been on the Incredible for just over 3 years now and ready to make the jump. It has been a great ride but this seems like the perfect time and phone to make the switch.
Anyone else?
I should be getting One (see what I did there?). Hopefully they don't disable HTCdev, which is doubtful they won't based on past devices. That, or S-OFF tricks will still work. And hopefully they'll get a Google edition.
But there's still time for the next Nexus to be announced. So I'll end up getting one of the two.

This is what I have been waiting on... a friend is supposedly going to hand me (yep.. free) his GS3.. which of course I'll root and put AOSP on... then I will purchase the One (off contract of course.. they are going to pry that unlimited data from my cold dead hands) once I see that the Verizon version has been rooted.. unlocked.. and has some good roms going on.
At which point I'll pass the GS3 onto someone who needs it (who has already claimed it.. before I even have it!)
Yea I hope this new version for Verizon gets rooted soon but that still not going to have me hold out at launch. BTW I am in the same boat as you, buying off contract so I can keep unlimited data.
Do you know where I will be able to purchase (when the time comes) the phone from? Just use Amazon or Best Buy? They will sell the phone on it's own right?

You should be able to buy it from anyone outright. Though you won't really get a deal from anyone that way.. so may as well do it from Verizon directly.
HTC One shipping August 22nd. FINALLY.
Going to wait like a week make sure others can unlock and get it rooted and will probably be making the switch.

And Key Lime Pie (I know its a pipe dream to think it will be announced by end of Sept)...
Would love to know the optimal specs for it before investing in a phone. Especially one that is already 4-6 months old before Verizon even sold it.
