Droid x hard buttons sticking? - Droid X General

Hey i just thought i would start a thread about the hard buttons on the front of the phone. So my home button seems to be wore out? Its now stuck down and wont pop back up. Has anyone taken the phone apart and either fixed or replaced the buttons? If so i would love a walk through or some pictures of what the buttons look like from the inside.

4 front buttons - build quality?

Hey all,
I've had my Legend just over 6 days now, must say the handset is very solid and built very well.
Only reservations are around the four front black buttons...
All Legends I saw in the shop had obviously been subject to lots of prodding from potential customers and all 4 buttons [ok ok there are 3 actual/physical buttons] lost their solid 'click' feel and had worked their way loose.
I'm posting because my HOME button seems to have worked its way a tiny tiny bit loose. Not enough to send it back or anything, but now, if I tap it with my finger, there is slight movement, it rocks side to side and can now hear a little clicky sound ...without actually pressing the button....this is after 6 days .
Anyone else experienced similar issues?

Should it be ignored or we should demand a replacement
Bump for this. I've noticed my HOME button has worked that little bit looser. Again.
Not fantastic for such a 'well built' device after just 3.5 months ownership.
Anyone else?
Same. I noticed it when I got it. Hasnt really got any worse and I don't think it will break but it has like a dead 'rock' to it

Same with the back button

Same, only ever use my menu button, rest are still 'solid', menu is 'squishy'.
Yupp. Menu feels solid only on one side of the button.
Same. It's just not as 'tight' as it should be.

Yeah these buttons are the major flaw of the Legend.. if it had capacitive buttons it would be amazing
My back button is not as good as it used to be :-( have to really push it down sometimes hard for it to work
do you know if it is possible to buy replacment buttons anywhere ?

I'm sure you can....
Trying to install them though may prove a little trickier.

Can you give me a link to the shop selling them ? I was able to open the phone and I have access to them...
I guess it requires soldering...

no thay are not, thay are attached by two screws. The problem is that it's imosible to find shop selling them.
HTC HD2
Also having this problem now. HTC HD2 about 2 months old.
The back button does not click anymore and feels soft when pressed.
This is my first HTC smartphone. Their quality is horrible a phone that cost U$500.00. Haven't they figured out how to make buttons??
Mine has been fine so far, although I've noticed that the buttons' clicking part isn't correctly centralized and in perfect angle with the plastic button itself.
So I've always pressed a specific corner of them (it changes from button to button).
Like the Home and Menu ones, the correct place seems to be the lower right corner, the Back one, in the lower left.
So pressing indiscriminately would definitely wear it quite easily.
Yes it sometimes gets annoying, but to avoid future headaches I recommend you try to feel it and adapt to the design flaw.

Very soft power button

Do you guys having problem with the power button beibg to soft like it doesnt press down anymore?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Yes, mine is very soft and doesn't 'click' when pushed.
It's that way by design from what I can tell.
same here, the power button is softer compared to phones i have used in the past. i have to press the power again to make sure i did actually pressed down on it, but i guess its something getting use to if the mytouch was built this way.
Lol I was about to return mine....what do you guys think in the long run. Would the button hold up? Or gets messes up quick?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Keep it, I don't think there will be a problem with it down the road.
Hate to bring this thread from the dead but I wanted to get peoples opinions on how their buttons held up. I took a case off my phone and notice how soft my power button is compared to my wife's G2. Did anyone actually had to exchange their phones because power button went out?
Thanks!
Please post questions in Q&A section.

Broke Voume Button

Left my phone on a wall, and someone rang it, and the vibration made it fall of the wall. No marks on it but the volume up is broke. Volume down works ok. Not a massive problems of course as everything can be adjusted on screen, but what are my options for fixing the button?
+1 mines broken too :/
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using xda premium
+1here the upper volume key is not working when i remove the battery cover it starts working but again when i place it, it stops
mine is working but almost torn apart. can htccare fix this problem without spending a penny?my DHD still on warranty..
+1 but I could fix my with some care and supper glue
Have a Case Mate but it is not designed to protect volume button if you are very unlucky as I where the phone hit sharp edge where the volume button is.
All I can say is at least you have buttons, mine got ripped out and lost somehow lol
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
flash it back to stock and return it for repair
i think that is the only way you can get it fixed

Stupid home button - I hate it.....and I think I'm having problems with it

does anyone here like the home button???....the button on my s3 seems very loose and clicks.....it doesn't feel right....anyone else notice this or is my button defective....not only does it feel loose, but I hate it....its to low, and is almost hard to get to with a case on......
I love it.

I could do without the physical button. I liked how my old Fascinate just had capacitive buttons

I like it and it adds to the look of the phone.
t-mobile sgs3 stock rom/rooted
The button generally is fine, it really sounds like your is defective, it shouldn't click as far as I know
I like it, I hated the captivated buttons.

I don't use it very often...
T-Mobile Pebble Blue Galaxy S3
I hated it at first since I had gotten so used to not having one but, now I LOVE it.
Mine isn't loose or anything, Maybe you should go back to store and see what they think?
It is kind of low but I use the rock quicksand case which leaves the bottom area open so no issues there.
The physical home button is pretty annoying. All capacitive like in the One X was much better.

mine is the same.. the right side is lose compared to the left side and it clicks everytime i favor clicking the right side..
Rogers is sending me a brand new one in the mail..
and my phone gets MAD hot.. temperature says 48degrees C right now
I love it! Mine is solid and silent; yours is probably defective.
Capacitive buttons are MUCH better than physical ones.
Hating it.
For the people who don't like it: did you know you can wake the phone using it instead of the power button? That's something you can't do with a capacitive home button...
Don't like the button. What good is it that my home button can unlock the phone when i hate pressing the button?

If you don't like the home button, you can use this program called Task Changer to put a virtual home right above the physical one:

Given the great placement of the power button in Samsung phones, that's nothing to write home about.
The home button works perfectly. It has a positive feel you just don't get with the capacitive buttons.

Yet Another Hardware Problem?...

Hey All,
I did a quick search through the N7 forums and didn't find anything, so I'm going to throw out yet another effect that I'm hoping some of you hardcores out there are experiencing: When I apply pressure to the lower left hand corner of the tablet (left and bottom bezels, tablet upright with camera on top), it blanks and screen locks; it sort of fizzles a bit and I have to reopen the screen a few times using the power button to bring it back to a stable, open state.
You might say "don't hold it there." Fair enough. But that happens to be one of my favorite places to hold it when I read a book, so it'd be a bit more of a change than I'd prefer... Suggestions on how to fix it would be great.
Thanks!
John

Tried to replicate the problem you are facing but no such problem on my nexus7. Maybe you should get a replacement.
