AT&T version (r800at) is fine I've got it, I wouldn't buy the Verizon version (r800x) because thry haven't released any source for it so development it's really rough. I'd recommend getting your bootloader unlocked to flash cm 7.1 or another ROM and dooms kernel. With the r800i, r800a, and r800at being the exact same hardware all the firmwares and updates work across all of them.

zergrush for root, get theme files for ICS theme, push through adb, install launcher with ICS theme
Check the development and theme/app sections, there are some easy to find threads in both that will prove useful to you.

So please help me... I have in fact rooted my att play 4g but I need help unlocking the bootloader without paying the 25$ I have tried the one on the Ericssonwebsite without luck bc my light turn s green not blue :/ and I want to download kernals and Rome can you please help with that? I don't have a recovery menu like I had when my tablet was rooted... I do not have access to a computer everytime I want a kernal or rom so anyway to do it off my phone? And please don't point me in direction of forums bc everytime I ask all I get are people being assholes to me and telling me to check Google even though that's why I'm here.

Unless you have the dev cable you need to pay the $25. The Dev cable is more then $25. If there were an easier way to unlock the bootloader everyone would be doing it so just pay the $25 abs move on man.

There is no way to unlock your bootloader without paying. The only two tools able to do it is. Omnius and SETool. Both of these applications require "credits" to perform an unlock!

Then I shall instead of paying even more to enjoy this phone I am just going to sell it it lags and I fiured I'd get a rom and a kernal to oc and fix the lag but I already spent 425 on it and its not worth it to put anymore into it.... it was a dud I may come back whenever the duo comes out... and there were many of people on here posting about the Ericsson website being able to worth and a lot of people said it did and I even seen a video of it working on the arc

Then you should of researched your purchase beforehand. Then you would know only sim free, unbranded factory unlocked plays can get the bootloader unlocked from the sony website. This is because unlocking the bootloader removes all security from the phone including sim lock. If sony offered this to sim locked devices, it would make network providers very unhappy.

If people can use xda to complain about a phone, why can't they use it to research beforehand? Don't whine just because you were ignorant and chose to spend money on something you hadn't read up on.

How did you unlock your bootloader? I currently have a R800x and I'm getting a R800at today or tomorrow but I read somewhere that the R800at can't be unlocked for free. I unlocked my R800x using sony's website just fine.. Is it the same or will I have to pay someone to unlock it for me? The SIM is already unlocked. And I'm sorry if this question is a little old.

Look up XDA user Alejandrissimo. He will unlock your XP AT&T bootloader for free via the testpoint method. Best method is to contact him via gmail, he will provide you with a download link of all the required PC software to install.

It would get a bit mad if every provider got his own board... I'm getting annoyed with all the verizon talk that's going on. But since a lot of things are universal I wouldn;t want the boards to get split up.
Just don't open threads that state that they are for the R800i or for the rogers version.
The reason why you find few useful info about the R800x is quite simple: nothing has happened: no root, no unlocked bootloaders, nada.
You USAns should exert real pressure on your carrier cartel so that you don't get different models per carrier instead of whining about other people discussing their phone.
Hey be happy you get Vanilla Android.
kidding yea it can be frustrating when the Rogers model launched I was frustrated because their was no information or anything about it here because the European model was already launched.
Give it some time it will all get sorted out soon besides there is nothing yet for the Verizon Play.
I expect root to arrive soon because most newer android handsets like the Droid3 haven't been rooted yet and even european and canadian plays can't be rooted at 2.3.3 unless you use the loophole through 2.3.2 but your device launched with 2.3.3 so that is where the problem is.
Are device came with 2.3.2 thats how lame we are

Development is off to a slower start for the VZW Play but it will pick up eventually.
Just be thankful the members of this forum aren't always saying "Search before posting noob!" like the rest of the forums out there.
adb shove iPad2post.apk to /forum/thread
Ya I go into the android development section only to check the r800x root thread to see if there is an update, but I don't mind having a combined board. Just hope root comes soon.
We do not need a separate forum for one model of the Xperia Play.
The only real difference between the Verizon model and the rest is GSM and CDMA.
Verizon's model came with 2.3.2 on it but there is something blocking the Gingerbreak exploit from working, All you can do it be patient and hope that the Verizon versions see's some attention.
You cant go into every thread demanding an answer or wanting something outrageous to be done about the phone. Doing that will just piss off current Dev's and could ultimately hurt it for everyone.
Just sit back, relax, have fun with your phone, donate to help convince the devs to help us out, or complain. your call, but the last option will just get people ignoring you.

R800X Users being teased?

Let's see
We can root it.
And fastboot recognizes our phone. It's kinda like we're missing something.
It's like those ****ers at Verizon are teasing us.
And does the D2 method work on this?
yep they are hell we can root it but can not install cm7. the roms we can install i dont thank are that good every one i ask online says cm7 is the best but i am hoping that they will make one we can flash with out having the bootloader unlocked because us R800X users can not do that (with out paying and thats something im not going to do)
what we need are more roms that are good and work with out haveing are bootloader unlocked i got the phone because i was thinking it was fun and it is and i was thinking i was going to be puting cm7 or ICS OS will i can not do ether of them and as of right now it sucks haveing the R800X i hope i can get something like a ICS like CM9 or at lest CM7 ya know

This thread is pointless.
What no one understands is that the Xperia line is not like other phones.
Kernels will NEVER be able to be flashed via CWM on this phone.
Xperias do not have a boot portion onboard the system
To install ROMs like CM7, you MUST install a different kernel.
Sure, no one likes to pay.
But what other options do you have?
You can unlock by paying now, or you can try to wait it out
A free method will never come again.

Couldnt agree more. This will be a never ending debate. Anyone with a locked bootloader has (2) options .. a) Unlock your Bootloader .. b) Take the time to Learn how to develop a rom that you would like for your locked down phone.
Plus we're on Verizon, did you really think they would make it easy for ya?
Point of this thread was to discuss how Verizon gave us 99% of what we need,( fastboot and root) then tease us by not giving us the other 1%( IMEI or free way to unlock )

... you know imei is the identifier for GSM phones, so there is no way any phone that is built for CDMA networks will have an imei, correct? ...
Oh, and Verizon has done their best to deny root (2.3.2 blocked gingerbreak, the old way to root. Zergrush was developed after 2.3.3 was released)
We didn't actually have fastboot enabled, on a stock phone.
So, actually Verizon did their very best to lock down the phone, and only due to the awesomeness of developers and unlockers on XDA, do we have the any freedom at all.

While that may be your intent. This statement makes clear that you don't even understand the situation. Until you, and anyone else who would make a thread like this, either decides to read more (or quit posting) we will continue to have unproductive threads like this. Though I don't suppose you consider this unproductive...and THAT is the real problem here.
Let me make one thing clear for you. Verizon, gave you nothing. You sir, or whomever pays your cell bill are paying for quite a bit. But not on that list is the freedom to do what you will with your phone.

Yeah, I'm living it. I feel like it's a tease just for this reason. I look around here, knowing that I'm not going to *be able* to pay to unlock my bootloader, as I'm unemployed and in High School, I find some cool threads involving the R800x. I forget about needing a different kernel, and the developer doesn't thoroughly explain it enough to the point where I have to find that out the hard way.
Then I find some new customization apps, like maybe a new launcher and other stuff and realize that not having a custom ROM isn't all that bad, especially since R800x came with pure Vanilla Android, with customization at it's best. I eventually get bored with the setup on my phone after noticing some new features that are only available on custom ROMs, most commonly Theme Chooser with CyanogenMod, or MIUI in general, then the cycle repeats. I just can't learn... Silly me!
i just think the R800x should be able to unlock there bootloaders for free just like the other xperia plays because im just like the one guy that posted i dont have the money to pay to unlock my boot loader. it sucks being stuck using the 2.3.3 update win others get to use the cm7 with the 2.3.7 update it sucks for us it sucks bad

My guess would be that he saw the thread with "unlocked bootloader" in the title and assumed people were working on it before actually reading the thread (or maybe I'm missing something?). I agree with you that I don't think they can really work on unlocking the bootloader without actually having the phone.
You can root and unlock the device without actually having it. I was just reading (Android Police) how someone with a leaked copy of the Galaxy S3 software was close to rooting and unlocking it.
edit: Aren't all HTC devices unlockable anyways? HTC has their development website where you can unlock devices and most are included soon after launch.

Interesting.
I still think that the way Alton worded it, it seemed like he was saying that somewhere in the Inc 4G forums people were working on it, which I don't believe is true (at least I can't find it). But your point is valid.

Verizon R800x owners are completely hosed.

Google searches tell me that I'm not alone in this - in fact, as far as I can determine, this is the case for every single Verizon r800x owner who made the mistake of updating their phone to 2.3.4 a few months ago.
2.3.4 completely broke push data, as I'm sure many of you know. Gmail, Calendar, Facebook notifications, etc...none of it works, at all. A sync has to be forced by either manually refreshing in the app, or turning auto-sync off and on again. This is a pretty huge problem - I pay over $150/month so that I can get important e-mails when they come in, and so that I can make a calendar appointment on my computer and have it instantly pushed to my phone.
For r800i users this isn't a huge deal - they can just flash a new rom or rollback to 2.3.3. r800x owners, on the other hand, are stuck with a locked bootloader. ZergRush is great for people who are still on 2.3.3, but 2.3.4 patched the security hole that allowed ZergRush to work (hellions with blue flames...).
I've spent about 6 combined hours on the phone with both Verizon and Sony about this. Sony is COMPLETELY worthless. They have no idea what I'm talking about when I say 'push data,' and when I mention 'Facebook notifications,' they instantly start up with their script about troubleshooting the built in Facebook app. Useless. Verizon wants nothing to do with this issue - they say that if there is an issue with the phone hardware, it is Sony's fault, and Verizon is not liable. The best that Verizon is offering me is to spend another 3 hours on the phone with tech support, where they'll have me reboot the phone 15 times and **** around with auto-sync for a while before they declare it a known issue and send me a new phone of the same model. I've been informed that all phones that they would have in the warehouse would be updated to the latest firmware, so I'd just have a new 2.3.4 that would be as broken as the one I have now. They'd do that 3 or 4 more times before they finally gave me a different phone. They are refusing to cancel my contract or allow me to buy a new phone at an upgrade price. Am I unreasonable for thinking that, if services are no longer being provided to me as I understood that they would be when I signed the contract, I should be allowed out of the contract?
Has anyone had ANY success with this issue? To phrase my question more specifically: have any Verizon R800x owners who updated their phones to 2.3.4 managed to root or unlock their phones, or get Verizon to alleviate the problem in any way?
This is driving me absolutely insane. I'm pretty close to just selling this piece of **** on eBay and buying a pay-as-you-go phone at the gas station down the block.

You can just reflash the 2.3.3 ftf... then root with zergrush and rename the files FOTA.apk that will prevent the phone from receiving the update. Or even better unlock your bootloader. I unlokced mine last summer and totally worth it. You do have options with your phone even if the bootlaoder is unlocked... if you are rooted you restore a 2.3.3 nandroid.

Dude... I am on a R800x. With an unlocked Bootloader. Many many R800x users here have an unlocked bootloader. Some had it done last summer via an unlock code like me, or others unlocked via the user alejandrissimo who unlocks your phones bootloader for $24. And this fee he charges is NOT because alejandrissimo makes money on. The software he uses to unlock your bootlaoder charges a fee for certain aspects of teh software each time he uses it. So the $24 fee you pay goes straight to the software, he make $0 on it.
There is info all over this forum about how to unlock your bootloader, root, flash an FTF on CDMAs..

Good luck. Again, let us know how it goes.

all I've ever done was remove the Mobile Care app with Titanium Backup and my phone has yet to ask me for an update since. This is when I was on 2.3.2 and now that I'm on 2.3.4.
I don't think I have any issues with push notifications on 2.3.4, but then again I don't use the gmail or normal mail app. i used Enhanced Email and juicedefender. Juicedefender enables data when I turn my screen on and also every 30 mins or so if the screen is off that long. I get email notifications generally between when they are sent and 15 mins later.
As jgregoryj1 said, flash tool works just fine with the R800X straight out of the box, locked boot loader and all. One important thing, when you flash back to 2.3.3 make sure to get root (very simple with super one click; again works with locked bootloader) and use titanium back up to disable the app called mobile care. Otherwise your phone will automatically update to 2.3.4. Even if you tell it not to update it will still do it in the middle of the night unless you uninstall/freeze mobile care

I remember staying up waiting for the update to pop up, just to stop it.....this was before I began turning airplane mode on and leaving wifi off when I go to sleep.....then it just stopped all together about a week after verizon tries to eff us over.

I hate that both Sony and Verizon are pointing fingers at each other and then taking a way an update because not as many games will work on the phone. Come on! It should be up to me, and they should be working to make my phone run as best it can for the two years I'm stuck with it!
I used to work for one of these companies, in your four week of training, you spend three learning how to soak your customer's for every penny they got.
And then there's the up selling training on top of that.

My cousin works for Verizon. But he was a hardware repairmen. But in his training, they told him to make it sound like a simple little thing is gonna make your phone explode and kill babies.
I have continually posted on the VZW forums on their website asking when this issue will be fixed, Verizon Customer Care ignores me every time.

I have seen every post you make on their. Unfortunately as I am not the account holder I can only read but not post. It is ridiculous. Then again its VZ. Hate them.

Finally got an answer and you all are not gonna like it:
Tommy_861, I can understand why it would be upsetting for features to stop working that previously did before. Per our product team, connectivity issues with Google Talk were found to be caused by changes to Google's encryption servers and this is no longer supported by the Xperia Play. I apologize for any inconvenience. The issue with Gmail sync has been reported, but I don't have any info on when this will be resolved. For Facebook, are you using the application or the browser? If an application, try using the browser.

You too huh?...why look at the att play....that one is fine isn't it?
Sent from my R800x using xda app-developers app
someone named poorxperiaplay replied and called them on it, then I replied as well:
I agree with poorxperiaplay here. The problem is directly related to all Google services not just Gtalk, thats why Gmail doesn't sync right, nor does the calendar, nor does it work right when you pick out an app on the Google Play web site on your PC and try to install from there. It never live syncs with the server.
You can't just take out features like that because you broke them and then say sorry. People rely on the Google services, its why we bought an Android Phone! Not only that, ALL other versions of the Xperia Play, R800i, R800a, R800at, all run 2.3.4 official from Sony successfully. Verizon modifies it for roll out to their phones, to add their software, which means your product team broke it, and they aren't spending the time to fix it.
And yes the facebook application does not sync properly or even work properly on 3G either. The sync issue has been a problem from day 1. The web site on the phone works fine.
These are major issues that are fundamental to all R800x phones. This needs to be fixed, immediately.

Is the Droid RAZD M bootloader unlockable?

Hi
Do you guys know whether there's a way to unlock the bootloader of this device (not the development version)? Or maybe there will be a way to unlock it? Is there any team that tries to customize this new device?
Thanks!

Are you trying to get the subsidized version and then unlock it? hehe I couldn't think of another reason why to not get the Developer Edition with it being unlocked to start off with. :cyclops: Not a bad idea though but nice try...probably would go that route if the developer community could unlock it as well.
Are they the same price? Is one off I'd the contract

Yes, they are both the same price off contract. If you think you might ever want to unlock and root, you should get the Developer's Edition. It's still covered by warranty until you unlock it, so if you don't unlock, it's just like getting the regular one. However, you get the potential to unlock, and if you decide to sell a few months later, it will likely have a higher resale value (at least to those of us who want to unlock it, anyway).
Can you get the dev on verizon? Thankd

Yes, but you have to order it from Motorola. Verizon stores don't sell it.
Really doesn't matter tho because 99% of people are going to buy it from Verizon with a locked in bootloader so you're not likely to see much dev for unlocked versions. So if almost everyone is using a workaround you'll have to use it even tho it's not needed. I hope it gets cracked tho

I'm new to Moto devices, I do not know who Matt is although I think I've seen his name someplace? Lol. I doubt it'll ever happen but I hope that theyll crack the VZW version of the M. That'd be cool

No no I didn't mean there won't be devs for this phone I ment that probably almost everyone will be buying it from Verizon IE locked bootloader so there probably won't be much if any dev for the unlocked version bought from Motorola. I know they'll be deving and work arounds I'm not THAT silly

It's the other way around actually, the development for the locked bootloader version will be severely limited by the inability to root, whereas the development for the unlocked developer edition is proceeding quickly. The one significant hurdle for source compiled ROMs and kernels right now is the Prima WiFi driver, which does not compile properly and the proprietary source code was not released.
Unless and until a viable root exploit is achieved for the stock version there will be very little development for it.

Dang that sucks when I had the original Atrix wr got lucky and got a leak to unlock it. I'm not sure if Google has locked it like moto but they have pretty brutal locks. Hope you guys get root soon then hopefully a BL unlocked I'd be interested in going to the M cause my s3 is a little big for my tastes and I've always loved the Razr line.

root is easily achieved once the bootloader is unlocked. As CellZealot said, the main hangup and the piece I've been banging my head on for the past 5 days is how to get the Prima Wifi Driver to work. I have a vendor setup and if/when I can get the prima driver built I'll move on.

Threadjack for a minute, but do you or your team have any idea of trying to get the M working on AT&T or T-Mobile? I'm assuming it won't work on the regular M unless we somehow get root or a bootloader unlock, but maybe it could be done on the Developer Edition?

The radios are there to work on US GSM but as of right now they are not able to find a US GSM signal. We are looking in to getting that rectified as well.

Awesome. It would probably be a lot cheaper for me to get an M from the US than trying to import one from Australia or the i from the UK, so if you guys can get it working on US GSM networks, that will be great.
