ya its a good one but no development till now. but i m sure it will get ics.

No It wont get ICS. And yes it is not better than Galaxy 3. The seolution and screen is quite small. But if you are looking for a budget android you can go for that. Here the full review. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGCJnfsoHYY&feature=feedu

i seen a preview of this phone on phonearena, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4IQAhMFBZY it didnt really made me want to buy it. i'd look further because i think in the lower/mid price range there are a lot of nice phones.

i just saw a galaxy gio for 99 € new i'm thinking of buying tomorrow one
here is a review

yeah, ive seen that review and its a nice phone indeed. but ill wait for maybe the next generation of phones. till then ill stick to my G3.

I got the feeling that galaxy Y is only good for the user with almost no need & intrest in developing & modding. And from what I know about samsung I can guarantee you that it would never get ICS, no need to agree with me but is it not obvious?
Sent from my GT-I5800 using Tapatalk

Galaxy Y would be downgrade from optimus one in terms of camera, screen Resolution , graphics
But if your budget is constrained to 7k , only then go for it.

What happens to us regular folk who don't buy a new phone every year?
answer: We thrive in our galaxy and travel to the EVEN bigger one (III) after another cycle has passed!
Damn nice, its not available here yet
I ordered a SGS2, sold my SGS1 to someone at work but my SGS2 was delayed (unit shortages) and I am now stuck with an old Motorola flip phone =/
how do you guys even afford to buy a new phone every half a year
I'll wait for the next Google phone. No more touchwiz crap for me, thanks. No more begging for updates.
Also, while it's clearly a better phone, the differences are too small. ppi density was poor already, now with the bigger screen they should have gone for 540 x 960, like the Sensation.

Really clever guy would have sold SGS 1 just before SGS launch £250 .
Bought O2 PAYG and if it was as many are unlocked sold on Ebay £500 .
Buy PAYG O2 £399 net transfer cost £49 .
If i had thought about it i would have bought more than one O2 for onward sale .
SGS2 has a flashing counter on boot screen better stick with SGS 1

i just got my brand new sgs a couple of weeks ago, after selling my old htc legend, so i'll stick with it for at least one year from now... after i'll master the tehnic of rooting it and all the customizing stuff, maybe then i'll consider upgrading to the new sgs2, but right now i consider it useless for me
only thing i miss from my legend is the sense ui, definetly much more user friendly than the touchwiz stuff, this is the main reason i consider rooting my sgs, i'll just wait for a stable release of sense ui for the sgs and then i'll be completly sattisfied with this awesome phone
heads off to SGS 2 thread tho. no need to make everyone jealous

It is too bad that many of the good devs are jumping ship before we get mature Gingerbread releases and mods.
In a way despite all the whinging we see on here about Samsung they are supporting the device for longer than most of the XDA devs.
The doomsayers were saying Samsung would bail on SGS 2.3 given the SGS2, when in fact it was XDA devs that bailed fast upon SGS2 release. Not that they don't have the right and I appreciate the work they did while they were here.
Lol SGS3 comes out late this year... What will people do who just upgraded to SGS2?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
I jut upgraded to 2.3.3 a coupla weeks ago, and I'm content to stay with a 90% cutting edge phone that still outperforms my old iOS Applecrap. It's kinda like having an E46 M3 (last version) versus the the new one. A few performance mods and you're just as good as the stock new one, and most non-gearheads wouldn't notice or care anyway. They'll just be impressed with the notion you own a fast Bimmer.
The money in my case would be better spent on a Honeycomb tablet as a companion to the SGS. Ones like the Asus Transformer look promising in terms of price, performance and battery life over the Asus G50VT laptop I'm typing this on.
I'm not begrudging anyone heading to the next level. Hell, Ill even admit jealousy. It's just that we bought 2 of these since the summer of last year and the shine hasn't worn of just yet, especially since moving to GB. And by the Christmas season, somebody will have raised the bar again. But I'll be still thinking that these are really just phone with a computer along for the ride. And I never upgraded my computers this fast. And stir in that the combined monthly bill is nearly $200 over the initial cost of the damn things. Yup, I'll wait.

Wrong forum for posting about the sgs2 i think...
But since its here, I dont see the point to buy a sgs2 right now unless youre a developer. In the other case it just means having to go back to stock roms and miss out on all the awesome developments that were made for the SGS.
Id rather wait to jump ships until such developments are being made on SGS2 aswell.

Grow up, this is a serious matter. I have experienced this kind of situation a lot of times and I end up regretting for what I chose.
Especially the X10. Bought it impatiently and the next gen phone came out the next week.
I learned and I told myself not to be impatient. Your kind of posts always made people regret themselves. You are not motivating them, you are leading them to despair(a bit too far eh?).
@OP -- Look, the next quad-core smartphone is expected to be released this month. You should wait and at that time, you can make your decision. Besides, DHD isn't powerful anymore now, SGSII has surpassed all smartphones out there. And Nvidia Kal-El looks promising, just wait for sometime.
But I'm not the one who decides what you should and shouldn't do. It's up to you, and I'm not forcing you but I hope you don't regret for what you choose.

Camera on ALL htc phones suck ass
If you can find a galaxy S then go for it with the superamoled and all but the design isnt too great, the only real advantage over the x10 sgs has is more ram, bootloader and multitouch
I love my x10 and dont care about any other phone at all untill a xperia dual core phone is released
Dhd screen quality isnt good at all and MIUI on it is slow and terrible
But it is a good phone and smooth as butter with the right rom on it
My personal opinion dont flame me guys

I am able to have 5 roms at once installed without wiping, right now setup is phone rom cm7 slot 1 miui slot 2 sense 3.0. Everything working perfectly. 4.3 inch screen is amazing as well. Everything is fast and smooth with a Linux kernel 3.0 port running and oc'd to 1.5 ghz allowing 50% faster processing speeds. Honestly dev scene here will be dead soon, I've seen rdannar leave j has an arc to play with and trip has a sensation so might as well move on.

why dont u buy sensation or S2 or optimus 2X....
u will regret again on buying DHD.. cause it's older now...
if u have budget limit , then u can buy DHD. my friend has DHD and it's too faster ,stable and better then x10... It has stable custom roms... but S-off and rooting is quite frustrating... it took me 3 hours to do all that in my friend's phone... only drawback is phone speaker and microphone are not good as usual in htc...
LG optimus 2x is more powerful and quite cheap phone , may be almost same as DHD price .. i would rather buy optimus 2x
Even lg optimus 2x is out of ur budget u should buy Samsung Galaxy S[the original one - not Galaxy S-LCD-downgraded model]

Who will buy a samsung again?

I will buy a new dual core phone for my gf this days. I think this won't be a samsung because lack of support. They don't care and no ics for galaxy s. This means they doesn't respect 20 million galaxy s users.
Evo 3D is looking nice. Cheaper than sensetion. and even better than sensetion. What you think about other phones?
Xiaomi Mi-One is looks like best choice ( 1.5 Ghz dual core adreno 220 and 1980 mah battery latest ics) and 310$! but I don't know how can I buy one on my country. Also can't find on internet.

Well, I ain't upgrading. S2 is good enough!!
The people who have the money and dont have anything else to spend on will buy it
As for the devs buying it they need a new challenge on the latest device
Only upgrade would be a HD screen who cares when its only a 4.8 inch screen
And then comes Quad core, I believe the dual core does enough tasks

S III rocks. More performance and more battery than S II. Why NOT to upgrade? Only if you don't have enough money, because everyone wants to upgrade. It's always good to keep supported and updated things. S II is going to be DEAD for Samsung in a few months, just like S I. I don't doubt Samsung won't update S II to Jellybean, just like they didn't update S I to ICS.

The S1 came with Eclair then to Froyo and hen Gingerbread. So there is a chancr S2 will go from GB to ICS then JB (Not Justin Beiber. Lol).. But if samsung follows the 18month rule (forgot what it was called) and JB wont be released within a few months then there is a chance we won't get an upgrade (from the OEM anyway). If pocketnow is correct and JB is just a
point release (minor update from 4.0 ics to 4.1 and not 5.0) then maybe we will have a chance.

I agree, but more battery results almost the same if you have more processor and bigger screen, plus i really like the SG2 design over the SG3.
I think I'll pass the 3 and wait for the 4. Or the next Sony Xperia S, because thats a sexy phone, and the only reason why i dont change my SG2 its because it has the same or less specs.
I was expecting more from the SG3. It just dont look classy like the 2. Looks more plastic.

Of course not. Can't I give my opinion? If you disagree, you can post here why. But just telling that it was noobish, just make your answer noobish. So shut up and stop being a noob.
PS: Some guy told me that the GS I has been upgrated twice. Sorry, I forgot this fact. Maybe Samsung won't forget the GSII in a few months, but after Jellybean. I'm sure Samsung will upgrate GS II to JB, it was no major update, it's mostly the project butter And since the nexus got upgraded, Samsung has no excuses to not upgrade.
Really this is how i look at it: The S3 is the S2 with a slightly nicer screen, slightly nicer battery, slightly nicer version of android, Slightly more memory, and a few mild tweaks. Big deal! The S2 still kicks ass of any phone out there, its a workhorse that will be good for at least another year before its really outdated.
Faster processor? My processor is fast enough as it is!
More memory? I never run out of memory doing what i usually do!
Newer android version? Developers for the SGS2 are awesome! LOTS of development for the S2 and theres lots of ports from the S3 to be made, still lots of room to advance the S2 so no worries there.
The only way im going to the S3 is if i can sell my phone and buy the S3 for only $100 more. Thats my limit. If i can, why not. $100 for me for an upgrade every year or so? thats not too bad. But if it doesnt happen so what? I love my phone! it works well, its fast, it does everything i want and more!
Anyways, thats how i feel, and i know there are many otheres who feel the same way!

if you want the sgs3 becouse of its os, SGS2 next update wont be 4.1 Jellly Bean,
it will be touchwiz ux from the sgs3, but for the performance, its a great device,
but they didnt solve neither battery or heat problems, and the device is very weak
and fragile

The s3 has double the memory...that's not a slight upgrade at all. Just wanted to point that out...I agree with the rest. Although the s3 is noticeably faster. I played with one at work today...it was impressive. At least it was a bigger upgrade than the iPhone 4 to the 4s. That's what made me get a gs2 in the first place...slow laggy 512 ram from the iPhone compared to a gig in the s2 and the s3 has 2gb and its very noticeable.

I have the international S3 with 1 gig of ram and I can already feel the difference.
Before I actually got the phone in my hands I didn't think it was any different from S2. Oh how wrong was I. The S3 is a much better device in every aspect.
I will keep my S2 anyway, it's the best looking phone ever in my opinion.

Is it still worth buying?

I recently got a galaxy y but already I am thinking about changing it mostly because coming from sets like desire and bb9900 the display is horrible.I was wondering if the galaxy s is still worth buying new for around 250 usd
Sent from my GT-S5360 using Tapatalk 2
if youre looking for something fairly cheap but also good then i'd buy one, but just not that price you mentioned you can definitely find it for cheaper.
lots of support for the phone here on xda, lots of choices for roms and kernels that make the phone much better, if you can find it for cheaper (i got mine for 200)
I bought mine for 130 canadian with a cracked back panel and a small scratch on the screen. Otherwise perfect. I got it a month or two ago and do not regret it one little bit. This thing is slick. Id say 175 would be a good price to buy one at.
I would say paying $250 isn't worth it. S2's go for around $200+.
Galaxy Nexus is $350 from the Play Store, brand new and still a top 5 smartphone. A huge advantage is you get updates direct from Google. For example Jelly Bean is being updated on these phones presently. Who knows how long before any phone you buy that comes from a manufacturer or cell provider will update.
I enjoy my galaxy s, as has been mentioned above, the custom ICS roms and kernels make it so.
I got mine used a few months ago for $100 Cdn or about $98 US.
My 2 cents worth.
Nice to see so many new users .
$100 on eBay for new galaxy s
Rather get sgs2 for that money

Thanks for the input guys.here in Pakistan the prices for handsets are absurd. for instance the s2 is available here for 436 usd s3 is for around 638 usd and galaxy nexus is for 415 usd
Also wanted to ask the phone I saw had made in Korea written on it.I recall reading some problems with Korean version?

It is definitely still worth buying, maybe for a lower price or a used one as alredy suggested.

Really dunno if korean version is a different model, there should not be any problem if it's just a FW thing, in that case you can change it anytime with odin and you'll do it anyway since you're probably going to flash roms on it, just make sure the model is i9000.
I9000 is written on the box fingers crossed either galaxy s or nexus s or galaxy nexus

Check this out.
The I9000 was the fjrst of the galaxy s row.
They said ICS will not work on that device.
--> it works!!! And it's great!
Now Jelly Bean was allready portet for our galaxy s and it still works the new rom without any difficultys.
So you might have an older device but everything works great on it. And if u don't like the look of yiur software just flash another. There are enough!!
Another point to buy it: it s really handy and not so big like the new ones. (the only negative aspects are the low speed camera and "bad" gps. But everytime i used gps I reached my aim.)

By today's standards the Galaxy S is still a brilliant upper-mid tier device only really bested by the Nexus S and only other device near by is the Defy. Consider the fact that most devices in the £100-£150 range have ARM11's with Andreno 200's and you can get a 1GHz Hummingbird with a SGX540... Its a no brainer. So, yes the I9000 is still worth the money.
it would be right to say that samsung stopped the software support for SGS, but there are great developers on the internet who keep this legendary device up-to-date and they do it better than samsung employees.
Yeah, its still worth buying, actually i just got mine today. I hope it will serve me well, atm im on stock JW4 with semaphore kernel I just didnt know it heats a lot, but well ill get used to it...
Galaxy S makes a come-back!
Having upgraded to the GT-N7000, I thought that my GT-I9000 would become completely redundant. Not a bit of it! Rooting the SGS and installing RemICS-UX was the best thing I could do; my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. It has given my SGS - and myself - a new lease of life! I thought that the SGS would end up forgotten in a drawer, only to see the light of day if the GTN went down. But instead, the SGS has become a part of my life which I use on a daily basis in conjunction with the GTN. Battery life is good; performance is slick; there is a very modern look and feel to it; and - unlike my poor old GTN - the SGS has finally broken free from the accursed Kies. Others have mentioned the excellent work done by the devs on the various ROMs; and their hard work has led to a variety of ROMs which cater for a variety of tastes and needs. So if you can pick up a Galaxy S for a fair price, buy it, root it, install a custom ROM, and enjoy it. For those of a nervous disposition, there is lots of help to be found within the community - just be sure and say 'thanks'.

Dunno to what you compare, but I don't feel heat.
Well I had Samsung Galaxy 3, and it was cooler, on galaxy s temp is about 42 C with wifi on and downloading something from market for example, i spoke with few people, they said its ok, but i dont know. is it? Phone is working ok, without any lag or something, now on stand by its on 30*C..
As others have said, the phone is still worth having if you can find it for a fair price. I got mine on a 2 year contract just before the release of the S2, which would have been too expensive.
I got afraid that the phone would feel horribly slow and outdated before my contract was up (like my previous Nokia 5800xm). With ICS Rom working so great, I no longer fear for that, as I use my phone daily for browsing, and to remote control my computer, and the times I get annoyed with it, it is mostly because of bad connection in my area.
I normally don't think it gets too warm, except when using wifi-tethering with mediocre-bad 3g reception.
Guys I ended up getting a galaxy nexus running on jb
