Hi
I have a rooted MT4G with Virtuous Unity Sense 3.0 ROM. I wanted to know is there is a way to connect MT4G to a pico projector (I have Optoma PK301)?
Any Cable/converter - App combination that can help me?
I am planning to use it for outing for watching movies from my phone with portable speakers.
Thanks.
not sure about a pico but ive seen people connect there phone to projector..i dont have specifics cause i really didnt care but it didnt seem worth it. if u have a laptop itll be 20× better

Most of the roms for our phone don't have the video out option built in. Some do, can't remember which one. I did see a cord online, where it has a video an audio connectors. Not sure what your projector uses.
If I helped, give thanks( via the button )
From my fist to your face, enjoy!

Is this a defect? Do I need to return the phone? I'm working with all the latest OTA updates.
I've tried to force 720p and 480p through settings, and tried auto-detect.
If I have it on the gallery app in a slideshow and plug it in, I see the "HDMI" label in the status bar before it goes black.
Strange thing is that the buttons still light up and go off with the HDMI cable plugged in if I hit the power button. But I can't use the power button to turn it back off. I have to do a battery pull.
PITA! HDMI was one of the reasons I bought this dang phone?
Can anyone out there think of any reason why this might be happening?
Thanks for any help.
You're not the only one. My cable is collecting dust somewhere for the past month. Maybe cyan will fix it? This is my first htc and I'm starting to think I shouldn't hold my breath for the company to fix it. As time progresses, I'm liking this phone less. I don't know if all htc phones are like this that it seems like it was rushed to market too soon without fixing the glaring bugs with it.

I share some of your sentiment, but not all of it. I still love this phone. But HDMI was one of their big, giant marketing points that got me to buy it. A phone with an HDMI out! That's crazy! Also, when I think of what I can do with it it's pretty cool.
But for it not to work at all? Not one bit? That is just crazy.
My theory is that they didn't realize what kind of copyright hell they were unleashing upon themselves when they put it on there, and so they intentionally broke it. If they ever release some kind of source code maybe one of these chefs can make it work.
Can you try another cable that is known to work? I've been messing around the HDMI output the past week since I got my cable (Molex #687860003, from eBay), and I think the implementation is pretty fault-tolerant. I've been plugging and un-plugging it repeatedly and never had a lockup, with and without the Gallery/Video application active. Blu-Ray rips at 1280x720p look and sound amazing for such a small device. There was some discussion on another forum about a bad run of Amzer cables (that caused lockups), so maybe it's worth borrowing someone else's cable and giving it another go before turning in the phone for replacement. Good luck.
I use it everyday without a problem (Youtube).

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, I don't have another accessible. But you are correct in that I should try it with another cable (and probably on another TV as well).
I went ahead and bought this one. It looks legit, plus it's long. I'll test it again when it arrives. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...40086&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_3062wt_1137
ive been using mine since day one without a problem. i bought the phone and cable from sprint on launch day.
The problem is with the old fps fix kernels. now they support hdmi out too. htc has the most lazy ass devs ever if they capped the fps cuz of hdmi... lmao

Wait! Come back!
By "old" fps fix, which do you mean? I'm using the netarchy-toastmod 3.7.2.a kernel, which supposedly had hdmi fixed. (I'm going to update to the latest now, I hadn't noticed there was another.)
Should I be using a different kernel?
Use version c.

thats odd... It worked fine on the 3.7.2b that i was using... hmm yeah try the upgrade
Yeah the release notes say that HDMI is working on all 2.7.x releases. Who knows. I'll try at home and report.
Is there any way to use the Epic as a mini monitor? I'm assuming not but I figured I'd ask anyways. Would it be possible at all?
That's actually a very good idea but I don't think its possible.
epic
No HDMI in for the simple reason that there is no hardware support.

Doesn't really make any sense since our resolution is so low the HDMI input video would look horrible. Also, considering we can't even get the standard video out to work I seriously doubt the reverse is going to work.
Not wired, but there's this app: http://www.shapeservices.com/en/products/details.php?product=idisplay&platform=android
Theres another that I can't find right now (magic something I think). Both are based on VNC mirror display drivers, do you need a pc, a server app for the pc and the client software for your andoid.
Good luck.

Hi, I've been very, very happily using Galnet's MIUI and basically using MIUI for an age but I've recently had a housemate move in with a big TV and was thinking about going back to a rom that features RCA TV out. I was wondering if anyone has recommendations for a good rom that features TV out via 3.5 RCA cable? Or if it's even worth it? It seems Froyo was the way to go?
Thanks.
I might be wrong but I tought that all CM7-based ROMs lacked this feature.
I assumed that all Samsung-based ROMs had it.
Yeah that's what I thought too. But thought some Gingerbread ROMs had problems with TV out? Can anyone vouch for the quality. I'm new to the TV hookup thing? Thanks for your response, mate.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
It would be nice if it could be implemented in CM7
However it isn't a show stopper for me, as I have an N900 which has TV out which I now use solely as a media player in the car (as it already has built in screens) I tried it on the TV once, but to be honest it wasn't brilliant
Not sure what games would be like from the Galaxy on a big TV
Hey all new to nexus 7 but not to android. Lucked up/cursed my way into a new nexus 7 32 GB. And had a few questions that search did not make clear.
1) Do you have to root to get the use of an OTG dongle for memory expantion? (SD card, external HDD ect.)
2) Dose skype work on Nexus 7? (Tried a few times and can't get it to work)
3) Is there a way to move the "Dock" and "notification" from the sides and top respectivly to the bottom?
4) I still can't figure out if there is a Doc that works!?
5) Can someone gove me a link to a Car Charger that works, fits well and is cheep?
6) Did I get a defective one or is there NO CAMARA APP?
Thanks for your help.

1. No. Search market for otg no root. (I cant seem to find it at tjhe moment, but it has been discussed at length)
2. Skype works fine for me.
3. Check out the different roms with tablet ui, or the tablet ui mod in dev section.
4. Google or Asus has not released official dock yet. Some other might work. I doubt theres one for using the pogo pins yet.
5. Search Amazon for Nexus 7 charger and find a mobile one that is compatible.

6. There's no camera app for a reason... are you honestly going to flip the device around and try to blindly take pics with it? If so, you can install one.

Thanks folks for the quick reply !
FAST, Fast , fast.!
Skype works but the android app is a bit naff (few features, only works in landscape mode and crashes a lot when calling), I use the custom skype version made by a member on here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31041722&postcount=2396
See here for a car charger: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1959543
They didn't include a camera app, probably because the camera is pretty mediocre. It's intended to be used as a webcam and that's about it, doesn't mean you can't use it as a camera though. Search for "camera app" on the play store and get the first result, it lets you view the camera and take pictures.

So my screen cracked. The digitizer is all but completely useless, but the lcd screen is in tact. I've bought a new N7 already but I need to know if there's a way to recover things like pictures and saved files from it when I can't enable data transfer from the tablet. I do not have usb debugging enabled, it's bone stock with no flashes or roms or anything fancy like that. Is there anything i can do short of replacing the screen assembly?
inb4 noob
inb4 get a case next time
any help will be greatly appreciated,
Thanks!

Get a USB otg cable and a USB mouse. Plug it into the tablet and then enable the USB debugging/auto mount mtd if possible. Then mount the mtd to your PC and copy the lot? If that fails use a mouse with a USB 4 hub, and a pen drive/ hard drive and try copy it all to that.

+1 for the USB mouse w/ OTG cable.
I suppose with a mouse you can do anything that you would be able to do with a finger and a digitizer, maybe with the exception of multi-touch.
I'm not sure about the hub business, though - I looked around on the Internet, and I see a mixed bag of reports. But I would think that a JellyBean Nexus would be one of the Android devices most likely to succeed.
If the hub idea doesn't work, there's always the idea of using the mouse and transferring files to a network share on your home network, sending them to dropbox, zipping them up and sending them to a ftp server, yadda yadda yadda.
If it's a rooted device and you have adb working with a custom recovery, then
Code:
adb pull /sdcard/
(note trailing slash, it seems to be important)
will recursively copy EVERYTHING from the /sdcard to your PC, or the MTP trick with the regular OS might work too. Make sure you have enough room and enough time!
Heck, "adb pull /sdcard/" might even work with the regular OS booted - but it could be clumsy if you are running 4.2.2 because of the "improved adb security". (Plug to PC & start adb ; wait for security pop up to happen; unplug PC, plug in mouse, click on dialog, unplug mouse, re-plug PC, try adb again?) Good thing the custom recoveries don't have all that fancy security!
Well, anyway, that's a couple of different suggestions.
good luck
I've found that hubs work well for me, but i didn't stay stock for long. So it may be the custom roms, but i think stock should work too

Powered or unpowered hubs?
You are using a "normal" OTG cable, and not one of those odd "Y" cable usage scenarios, is that right?
I have an old USB 1.0 unpowered hub laying around here somewhere. I should give it a roll - it should be plenty fast enough for a mouse and a keyboard

Thanks. I'll have to try and find my hub & see how it rolls with the stock kernel & ROM. I think maybe the PA ROM kernel has USB host-mode patches?
Well, anyway... I hope we're not confusing the OP by going off topic. Nothing but silence from the OP...
