I apologize if there's some other place for this that I haven't found but I felt compelled to let the devs here know how much I appreciate your work.
1 day after finding the site I've got new fonts, a better camera app and soon to be a faster phone.
Thanks for all the poking around you've done and apps and tools you've created. I love this platform.
You are welcome. Enjoy

^^ who the F is that and why is he/she trying to take credit for ANYTHING?
I agree with the OP too... unfortunately most of those who actually contribute don't read the General section.
I'm just waiting to see how fast even a simple "thank you" thread turns into a flamefest, heh.
I'll might as well start
"OMG WHY are you cluttering our General forum!!!1111one. If you only SEARCHED you would have found a dozen of threads just like this one. This isn't how XDA used to be..."
All kidding aside, even though there's plenty of unnecessary drama and flame wars on the Vibrant forums, all of that is such a small percentage compared to the sheer amount of awesome work we have seen in such a short time from so many people, developers and non-developers alike. With 2.2 looming and beefy hardware that should stay relevant for quite some time, I'm looking forward to even more quality work coming out of the XDA community for our beloved device.
Moving on to greener pastures

The f*k happened anyway?!?? I heard rumors and I'm not stateside so I don't log in as much so I really don't know what happened
Oo oo I know
This happens in every phone forum on this site. I have been on xda (as a user only) since the g1. I think it is good that the devs leave this site. Xda is only the first step for a new dev. Since the mods do not understand the term "development". Your everyday user should not be able to post in a dev thread. That is why we have a general forum. The Dev thread is for developers to talk to other developers to make a better product. It is not a place for users to complain and bad mouth developers, all that does out make them leave. Maybe one day xda will realize that.....cyanogen started on xda....he had his own site now....I wonder why.....lol

And without developers say goodbye to your advertising sponsorship. Slippery slope guys.
Remember, this is just a Web forum, nothing more and nothing less.
Maybe a revaluation of your perceived value of importance is known order.
It's just a real shame that the best devs keep leaving, and always for similar reasons. Biting the hand that feeds is never smart.

No its good for everyday people to post what they get when they flash new roms. Now bad mouthing that's a different story..
Hmmm that's ridiculous..
But i like this site..
Did people get butthurt over some ROMs not working or something? I'm confused, I would expect the devs to encourage bug testing and criticism...

I don't know exactly what happened, but it wasn't something that an average user did. Brick'd was a fun guy. One of the mods decided to close the thread for a reason that I do not know, and brick'd wanted to say goodbye.
oka1 should be the only mod for our forum, he actually gets us + hes pretty damn cool. even though i have like 70 infractions from him from a year ago haha
Judging from Br1ckd's post in Zen I think something happened to another on the DD team. My guess is it was Dan but not sure. The mod in our tablet forum can go on power trips. Because Br1ckd is a Recognized Developer he has the power to lock/unlock his own thread.
Pretty sure it was an all for 1, 1 for all type thing. He's in a better place now. So lets not mourn his loss but rejoice in his new beginning. Hey, it's almost Easter and Padre Wood is done with his sermon.
Woodrube is on point. I pulled my stuff, closed my threads, and stopped hosting on xda due to something that happened in the sgs2 forums between a trusted friend and DD member, and an overzealous, aggro moderator. As well, the same DD member has also been receiving harassing pm's that the mods didn't seem to want to help with.
I've spoken with Oka1 about my decision and the facts surrounding it, and thanked him heavily for his part in cleaning up the Vibrant forum in recent months. He really has had a big hand in bringing this particular subforum to where it is now.
I harbor no ill will towards anyone over here and I still check in from time to time. However, I also stand by those who stand by me. When my boy had enough of the BS, it was obviously time for a change, and as a new team, we showed great unity in unanimously voting to move.
Hope this sets the record a bit more straight. Feel free y'all, to pop by and say hi sometime, sit a spell, and visit some old friends, and some new ones.

I Like all the guys in this forum, and this forum's Devs have been Stellar and worked together to keep things even and fair, properly giving credit to those who deserve. AS to the other forums I really do not know what happened, but I do know the SGS2 forums is a pretty tough bunch. So, it is understandable that some devs would get tired of the rowdiness..... That's unfortunate. I will strive to talk to the superiors about this incident so XDA can learn from it and make this forum a more conducive environment for all......
Thanks to all in this forum for being the good participants you are ........ ~~~ oka1

They just need to have a better "recognized developer" system. that way ONLY developers can post in dev section, and they have an available option to enable/disable posting in their thread - leave discussion threads for the general section. as long as the moderators cleaned up the general section once a day, making sure there is only one discussion thread per rom - it would be a flawless system
I think the more annoying thing is how people can theme a ROM, add a couple apks, along with some build.prop/ram tweaks, and then post it in the dev section as a new ROM. that drives me mad, and then the noobs encourage this behavior (because they dont know any better) by saying "why complain about having more options??", and by calling these members "developers" - release it under themes/apps, not development
^^the end result of this is a cluttered development section with multiple versions of the same ROM - all of them having poor explanations - so you dont know which ROMS are legit enough to monitor because they all have the same damn features listed
As the Moderator of this Forum, I want to thank all of you for being such a great Group. I find this Group one of the best in XDA, helpful, considerate and dedicated to the "let's try to improve our experience" on the Vibrant.
Now the S3 is coming ..... we will see many leave and move on...... This is to be expected...... but I am always sorry to see the waning of a great group of people...... such as all of you.
You know, the Vibrant has had an amazing run of support, more so than almost any other device.... I still love my Vibrant......even though I have a G-Nex and a Note...... I learned most skills on the Vibe....... and still love using it.
Anyway, Here at XDA we appreciate all the developers, Modders, Themers, and all the other contributing members such as yourselves...... that make XDA.
Thanks for making my job easy.......... Oka1 (moderator)
Thank you for your kind words, at first glance I though you were saying your goodbyes, but not the case.
People will leave but people will join, those phones have to go somewhere don't you think? Your right on the support, who knew this phone could get froyo, gingerbread even ICS, thank you devs.

I had a choice of getting a Nexus S or a Vibrant and had a few days to decide. I used those days to browse both fora. I am glad to say that I picked the right one. I have met many good people here and hope that the crop of newer users will be as cordial, intelligent and helpful.
This is way more useful than my tablet forum (oka1 is the mod there too). Over there it is hard to post anything without 15 responses about how you are wrong or that doesn't work for me. It makes it real frustrating. But it also makes me appreciate the Vibrant threads much, much more.
I think partly it is due to the fact that we didn't really get any official updates.
Yeah we got Froyo after much gnashing of teeth, but it wasn't OTA.
It was more of an afterthought especially since you needed to use Kies to install it. But even without Samsung/T-Mobile support, we were among the first phones running ICS. How does that even happen?
It is because we are all hungry for all the improvements that have come available for our phones, and we are extremely thankful and grateful to those that provide them to us. We were all in the same boat, and that led to an appreciation that some of the other forums do not have (or even understand).
The nature of the internet is inherently selfish, as most people demonstrate when they feel relatively anonymous, but we really do have a good community here.
I have asked a lot of questions along the way since I joined. Some were noobish, some were dumb, but no one mocked me for asking. Other people just helped get me on the right track. You can't ask for more than that, and to have those kinds of interactions in an online forum is remarkable. That spirit has led to many users becoming developers and creating new kernels and ROMs for this phone, and giving back to the community.
Also, it helps that the hardware in our phones is still relevent after 2 years...high end specs help a lot. People just seem to want to dev for this phone. As much as I would love to get a new phone such as the One S or the GS3, it is hard to justify when this phone is still chugging along just fine.
Thank you Oka1. If this is one of the best groups on XDA, then you've got to be one of the best moderators on XDA. It's been a good run, two years, and it's been an inspiring two years at that. I've learned things I never knew before, been helped when stuck or inquisitive, and in turn I've done my best to help the community in return. You guys are great, all of you here on the Vibrant forum (except the guy who ranted at mr_psycho). Woodrube, xriderx66, dougfresh, Oka1, and s15274n are just a few of the people I've been given the privilege to converse with here. Of course there are others, but then I'd practically be naming everyone in the Vibrant community!
It's funny, one day I was asking how to remove CWR because I thought it was bad for my phone and then the next I was flashing custom roms... One day I was asking people how to install Miui on my phone and then the next I was making a guide about it. I've leaned a lot here and thus I thank all of you guys.
Since I'm not good with speeches and what not. I love you all! Seriously. This was my second smartphone, I had a meh experience with the G1 and this has been the best, and I KNOW that nothing can be better than this.
Even if you are leaving, be sure to come back once in a while and say hello
I was such a noob entering into the flashing world had the g1 and hd2. Wasn't impressed with either (didn't know about any of this stuff) when I got my vibrant and was curious I stumbled into xda,edt and the axura forums. Wow was I clueless on the capabilities of these phones. As the 21st nears and I know the gs3 will soon be in my hot little hands I wish to thank oka for everything he's done for this forum. I will not yet bid farewell however.

I too love my Vibrant, it birthed my dev "career", when the day comes that I do upgrade, its going to be a sad one indeed, and I don't think I'll ever get rid of Betsy. More like enshrine her in a glass case on the mantle, and tell my grandkids stories of how Oka1 came riding over the hills and cleaned up this one horse town, making it a pleasing experience for all the devs, themers, and users alike.

Hey guys,
Been on these forums for two years. Outstanding community and I've had SO MUCH fun. Upgrading the the Galaxy 3 in a few weeks and I will see you all over there!
Why would a mod close the sgs3 thread? It was a thread for fascinate owners who are considering upgrading. It was a discussion within this community by people who wanted opinions of others they have come to know and trust, not some fan boy who posts in the sgs3 forum. Why should I go there when the opinions I want are here. And it was in the general section ffs. I mean what was wrong with that, its not like it was posted in development. Get off your high horse, this is our community too.
Oh, and by the way, while you were closing this thread in general for no real reason, you missed two posts in development that don't belong. GTW

Since xda chooses not to assign mods who are a regular part of the community, mods routinely jump in with no sense of what is actually going on in the forum and go willy nilly. Then half the forum leaves and goes to rootzwiki until the mod loses interest.
Certainly not the first time this has happened.

a bunch of bs if you ask me...im suprised chef tony did that??
Edit: Never mind
I sent him a message at least asking why... I can't find any rules that we violated. this is why I've been bugging the admin to make either me, droidstyle, some well known person in the community a mod, it happens every few months that a mod comes in here and abuses their powers or something and pisses all of us off, we need somebody who is actually a part of the community that knows what is going on.
how come none of the threads that are in the wrong section have been fixed? how come the old threads from over a year ago that we keep requesting closes on are still open? how come the excess noob posts and things haven't been cleaned up at all? all that happened is some of our fun got ruined without him even giving a reason or explanation. just because you're a mod doesn't make you part of the community, or us not part of it. doesn't matter how much power somebody gives you if you use it wrong and on things you have no knowledge about.

Preach on. I've been on xda since the Eris and the fascinate forums since around launch. I really don't understand why xda stays with a mod system that it has clearly outgrown. The mods are good but the system sucks.

hi,
maybe i should have given a further explanation, why i closed the thread, but since i did not read it entirely, i wouldn't want to comment on the contents.
i did not close it for a real rule violation, but simply for the reason that the fascinate general section should be exactly that, general discussion of the fascinate, tips, tricks and tutorials. of course, users of one particular device also get together to talk about other devices, but at 10 pages, i felt it got a bit out of hand, because the same thing goes on with every device and when people start talking about a number of other devices in every device's section, it might get a bit cluttered.
still, i know, what you are getting at. i am mostly active in the sgs2 forum and of course, people are discussing the sgs3 there as well, with aspects only relevant to existing sgs2 customers, like if it is a good idea to upgrade, when you already have the s2 and what plans allow you to change phone after a year and so on. i understand the fascinate thread was basically the same thing, it was targetted entirely at current fascinate users from north america, most of them on verizon plans. that is something you don't have in the sgs3 section, yet.
closing the thread was just a first step, the plan is to move the thread to the sgs3 section and re-label it to give current (and former) fascinate users a platform to discuss the sgs3, with actual s3 users to look into and maybe offer a helping hand, since they already know everything about the device, but would not actually go into other devices' forums to help people there.
this step will be done in a few minutes, then the thread will be re-opened and has a permanent re-direct from the fascinate section, so you can still visit it conveniently from your device's section.
as you see, at no point was there any issue with the thread itself, it is just some minor maintenance to keep the forum clean and organized, feel free to continue the discussion in a few minutes.
---------- Post added at 12:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:04 PM ----------
So basically he did it so that we could have a thread in the GS3 section for once we get our GS3s. Would have been nice for him to tell us that.
lol i think there are more important things that need to be accomplished here at xda. first step would be organizing that cluster f*** of a sgsIII forum.
I was reading Chef Tony's response and at first was thinking thats bs reasoining, than he made sense and I agree with him. And its still convenient cause I check this forum not the GS3 that often, and the thread is still here is fine. I was wondering where that thread went earlier haha.
I'm not seeing the thread on my phone any more, can somebody link to it please?

Here ya go.
Reading this thread has made me a bit nostalgic. I've become quite accustomed to the little family of Fascinate owners here, small but dedicated. It now seems very real that the sgsIIIs are packed up and ready to ship. Even our threads are leaving us.
I don't post a great deal, but I follow you guys all the time. I suppose it was inevitable that the sgsIII would break things up, but it's sad nonetheless.
For those of you heading to the next big thing, I'll almost certainly see you there eventually. For those staying, I look forward to further discussions about the little phone that could.
I echo your sentiments. It's a shame that the powers that be decided to deprive us of the ability to discuss an issue that effects the community within the community. A thread in the gs3 forums is great and all but it isn't the same as it does not have the same dynamics or personalities.
Anyway, I may eventually make it over to gs3 land but aokp and devil kernel is a really nice setup on this venerable device. I honestly don't know if I can live without aosp and aokp so I may make it there eventually or just say screw it and snag a galaxy nexus on the cheap.
It's been excellent folks. This is the first phone I've ever truly found to be superb. But most of that is because of the hard work put in from devs like jt1134, adrynalyne, nitsuj, stephen, and many many others.
Those of you who are staying, I'll see you around. Those who are leaving, ill catch up with you all eventually

Hello XDA,
My name is swagstr and I am as some would call a developer and others would call a contributor. Either way, I have created two very successful ROMs, SOS+ (X/S/M) for the HTC EVO 4G and SOS M for the HTC EVO 3D.
I have a vision for a new project and I was hoping to get as many developers and contributors as possible to help with this project.
The project is titled: All Swagged Out Project. It is a play on the way most people misspell AOSP.
The goal is simple. Every time a new developer or contributor begins to dig his/her heels in and tries to learn how to modify Android, this person has to search and search and search. I was hoping that the people that develop and contribute for the EVO devices could take the lead and create a repository of sorts for modifications.
A wise man named tommytomatoe (developer of The Classic ROM for the HTC EVO 4G) once said: "Sharing is caring." I fully believe in this motto and hope that everyone in the EVO community feels the same way. I have opened up several threads over at the SOS Forums where people can post their original (or borrowed) mods and tweaks for the EVO 4G LTE, 3D, V, and 4G. I would not be opposed to having these posted at XDA, but I think I would be nice to the XDA moderators if I took the moderating of these threads on myself. My goal is to moderate these threads and add as much information as possible to provide the best ROMs for EVO users.
I think this could revolutionize knowledge sharing in the Android community and I hope EVO users can lead the way.

Interesting...........so we would have to register on this site in order to contribute to this project of yours??
Since it's a forum, I'd imagine so...
I could c people responding with different mods they find or make and posting them here and u maintaining a off site website where u store the mods in different categories. But it couldn't be in a forum like settings as redirecting from xda to another forum is frown upon.
XDA Moderator
I figure that if I added, say, my Guide, I'd have to upload all the files that are linked in there to my dev-host, for example, then copy/paste the info with the links going to my site, instead of the xda links. I think that's what you.re trying to say, Smurf?

Yeah the point I was trying to make was that since it is a forum that it will require people to sign up in order to contribute and this MIGHT be considered a form of advertising his site!
I know what he's trying to do is helpful BUT is the way that is being handled......that's why I said it was interesting! Obviously, I'm no moderator BUT I've been on XDA long enough to know that this kind of stuff like Papa Smurf said is frown upon.
We'll see what comes of this project...hahahaha

Sharing is caring is something completely different then what swagstr is trying to do
YES he's trying to create something like a one stop shop for people starting up to help them and not cause them to spend hours and hours of searching.
The issue on hand I believe is that having it on a different site causes an issue with XDA rules and policies
Anyways, my suggestion to you swagstr is that you should request people to send you guides, suggestions, tips or whatever via PM and when you have enough of them.....start up a thread in the general section or maybe the development section.
Once you get enough guides or whatever, request that it be turn into a sticky
Hope everything works out as this is something that in my personal opinion could prove to be helpful if done correctly!
Let me know what you end up going with and I'll write up a few guides to contribute to it!
A thing like this is something I would be interested in.....
