Br1ckd is gone to root, goodbye xda. - Vibrant General

Moving on to greener pastures

See ya' on the flip side ...

Yeah, I think I may move as well but I'll keep in touch with xda. seriously, mods. This forum is for Developers, not for you to be a little ***** and think you're the king of everything.

The f*k happened anyway?!?? I heard rumors and I'm not stateside so I don't log in as much so I really don't know what happened

Oo oo I know

This happens in every phone forum on this site. I have been on xda (as a user only) since the g1. I think it is good that the devs leave this site. Xda is only the first step for a new dev. Since the mods do not understand the term "development". Your everyday user should not be able to post in a dev thread. That is why we have a general forum. The Dev thread is for developers to talk to other developers to make a better product. It is not a place for users to complain and bad mouth developers, all that does out make them leave. Maybe one day xda will realize that.....cyanogen started on xda....he had his own site now....I wonder why.....lol

And without developers say goodbye to your advertising sponsorship. Slippery slope guys.
Remember, this is just a Web forum, nothing more and nothing less.
Maybe a revaluation of your perceived value of importance is known order.
It's just a real shame that the best devs keep leaving, and always for similar reasons. Biting the hand that feeds is never smart.

No its good for everyday people to post what they get when they flash new roms. Now bad mouthing that's a different story..

Hmmm that's ridiculous..
But i like this site..

Did people get butthurt over some ROMs not working or something? I'm confused, I would expect the devs to encourage bug testing and criticism...

I don't know exactly what happened, but it wasn't something that an average user did. Brick'd was a fun guy. One of the mods decided to close the thread for a reason that I do not know, and brick'd wanted to say goodbye.
oka1 should be the only mod for our forum, he actually gets us + hes pretty damn cool. even though i have like 70 infractions from him from a year ago haha

Judging from Br1ckd's post in Zen I think something happened to another on the DD team. My guess is it was Dan but not sure. The mod in our tablet forum can go on power trips. Because Br1ckd is a Recognized Developer he has the power to lock/unlock his own thread.
Pretty sure it was an all for 1, 1 for all type thing. He's in a better place now. So lets not mourn his loss but rejoice in his new beginning. Hey, it's almost Easter and Padre Wood is done with his sermon.

Woodrube is on point. I pulled my stuff, closed my threads, and stopped hosting on xda due to something that happened in the sgs2 forums between a trusted friend and DD member, and an overzealous, aggro moderator. As well, the same DD member has also been receiving harassing pm's that the mods didn't seem to want to help with.
I've spoken with Oka1 about my decision and the facts surrounding it, and thanked him heavily for his part in cleaning up the Vibrant forum in recent months. He really has had a big hand in bringing this particular subforum to where it is now.
I harbor no ill will towards anyone over here and I still check in from time to time. However, I also stand by those who stand by me. When my boy had enough of the BS, it was obviously time for a change, and as a new team, we showed great unity in unanimously voting to move.
Hope this sets the record a bit more straight. Feel free y'all, to pop by and say hi sometime, sit a spell, and visit some old friends, and some new ones.

I Like all the guys in this forum, and this forum's Devs have been Stellar and worked together to keep things even and fair, properly giving credit to those who deserve. AS to the other forums I really do not know what happened, but I do know the SGS2 forums is a pretty tough bunch. So, it is understandable that some devs would get tired of the rowdiness..... That's unfortunate. I will strive to talk to the superiors about this incident so XDA can learn from it and make this forum a more conducive environment for all......
Thanks to all in this forum for being the good participants you are ........ ~~~ oka1

They just need to have a better "recognized developer" system. that way ONLY developers can post in dev section, and they have an available option to enable/disable posting in their thread - leave discussion threads for the general section. as long as the moderators cleaned up the general section once a day, making sure there is only one discussion thread per rom - it would be a flawless system
I think the more annoying thing is how people can theme a ROM, add a couple apks, along with some build.prop/ram tweaks, and then post it in the dev section as a new ROM. that drives me mad, and then the noobs encourage this behavior (because they dont know any better) by saying "why complain about having more options??", and by calling these members "developers" - release it under themes/apps, not development
^^the end result of this is a cluttered development section with multiple versions of the same ROM - all of them having poor explanations - so you dont know which ROMS are legit enough to monitor because they all have the same damn features listed

Too many non-development threads are being placed here...

Now that I have your attention, can we please have some organization and forum ettiquette. This forum looks like complete hell and about 85% of the threads started in here belong in the GENERAL section- including THIS thread!
The reason I posted it here is because apparently, nobody knows how to use XDA and it would probably never be read in general. Please read the wiki page and follow forum rules. I am going to contact a moderator asap so that we can get this nasty **** cleaned up right away. It is seriously ridiculous. I come to the Development section of the Captivate forums to find stuff related to actual development(go figure) and not questions or comments about stuff that has nothing to do with development! No wonder the Vibrant development is moving along so much quicker. I think they actually have some people over there with brains and have been able to organize a team of sorts.
If this keeps up we will never have any devs willing to collaborate for this beautiful device.
I am done with my rant but please, please follow rules. If you want to know what a Development section is supposed to look like- go look in the Nexus One Development threads.
Thanks,
Troy
I agree... But that title is just cold man....
I agree, this phone seems to have attracted alot of technological illiterate people coming from an iphone or first time smart phone users that think this place is for technical support, well its not. Call at&t if you don't know how to use your phone.
If the galaxy s community wasn't so segregated we might be able to get something done. 4 forums for essentially the same phone is too much as well. I will contact a mod about this as well.t

bad topic title, but I dont think all the Galaxy S variants should have their own forums - its annoying and unorganized
It is just that the Vibrant community is already Android literate and so have been on XDA for a while. Captivate people are new to Android and there is no moderator that has taken this over yet to push things to where they belong (including this reply!).
LOL. Funny title. Its sure to get some attention though. I agree and my poor Captivate will continue to sit unused while my Nexus One gets all my attention until some more development picks up.

I noticed a this and posted a thread in general about getting some organization sadly only 2 replies. No one probably even read it fully.

It is sad that this area does look pretty unorganized and I agree if you dont know how to use your phone, this development area is not for help.. Post in the General or go to another site. I am hoping we will get some people that are actually Android literate. I am reading more and more being new to Android but not unix/linux and not new to smart phones!
Cheers,
Charlie
Well, thanks for a heart stopping second I experienced when I read the title....but I do agree....but wow....
Thank you!

I asked if there was a moderator for the captivate forum. I will upate post when I get more info.
Wheres that update.zip again?
After reading the OPs post.. I went on a scanning spree. I'd venture to sat that only about 30% of what's in this 'dev' forum actually pertains to development.. Really is quite frustrating when you're trying to scan pertinent data but using search would be to limiting.
Also.. I LOLd at the topic. Thank you.
I can agree with you about this, but you're not doing a whole lot better yourself posting topics like this with misleading titles. While you're trying to be helpful, you're only adding to the problems. Let the staff deal with the problems. If there are no moderators in the Captivate section, then lets get a few so they can take care of it.
And a Moderator jumps in!
Guys, it's true there are several forums that are lacking dedicated moderation.
After an 18 month hiatus I have "come in from the cold" {walked away from my iPhone} and returned to XDA-Devs. My new decive is, you guessed it, Samsung Captivate!
I'm still learning the new layout and Android but I will spend time working on the clean-up here, just don't expect it to get done overnight.
Feel free to PM me directly with threads that need moderator attention.

I'd bet most of the members here now don't remember how wild the Kaiser forums were for several months after it hit the streets. It's amazing what a few vigilant Moderators can to do a forum with a little time and the help of the user base.
If we seem to over-moderate for a while just understand that you've got to hack away a lot of weeds before you can prune the bushes nicely.
Seeing the title of this thread changed and not by me was the BIGGEST sigh of relief!!! Thank you Moderator for stepping in and I apoligize for getting anyone excited a little early. I felt it was necessary. Hopefully everyone will stay on track now.
God Thank you so much! I can agree. A lot of the Galaxy S community are fairly new to XDA, but I think they will get it eventually
There's always a learning curve, but try to be respectful guys. This is my first Android phone as well, and I'm coming from the iPhone 3G for 2 years and the iPhone 4 for a month. Now, I'm pretty quick with this type of stuff, and I'm not new to messing with phones, firmware, linux, hell, I even messed with Android on the iPhone for a while there, but most of that was way over my head since they needed driver developers, but a lot of us are new here (or back to being new again in my case, since my WM phone before my iPhone).
Please stop being rude to people who aren't as experienced as you. Yes, I understand it's annoying when someone who barely knows how to download an app from the Market wants help flashing firmware or something like that, but hell, I was asking for help with that just a week ago or so too. Use the report button if a topic is in the wrong place rather than belittling the person. We'll progress a lot more if we work together rather than fighting each other.

Thank you mods

Thank you mods. According to JT now he no longer be contributing to this site due to your ****ty job. We lost one if the best developers.

I don't get what the whole drama is about. I saw adrynalyn's letter although it really didn't explain what exactly happened at xda and why he was banned and why other developers are leaving too. It seems like there is a massive exodus of developers but I really don't know why or what happened. There is drama here definitely but not much more than I've seen at other forums although xda has gotten huge. Oh, well... I really don't care what forum I go to. I don't get too involved.

Damn. Didnt know Adrynalyn had got banned. That's pretty messed up. As for the exodus I have noticed it too. There almost no development going on in the Mesmerize development section. All of them have went to Rootzwiki. I haven't even seen them post in other threads or anything. So whatever has happened its enough to piss them all off. I wouldn't mind knowing what happened myself but oh well. Maybe I don't need too.

What exactly are you talking about? What lack of moderation have you seen? Maybe instead of posting a complaint thread you could actually bring something to my attention and it can get dealt with. I moderate 3 forums here at XDA and don't see EVERYTHING. Seriously, we have a report post button for a reason...

first, I like how you cleaned this place up from what it was, and I have not seen anything singling you out. I follow a lot of devs on twitter.. And from what I gather, most of the frustration and animosity from the devs is toward the community itself. And what is toward the mods, it seems more the lack of numbers. another thing that I think bugs the devs is xda's add revenue not being put toward the community or t.the devs enough.. What it boils down to is
The feeling of appreciation, they all do this expecting nothing. So your gonna be on thin ice from the get go.. Devs don't need XDA at all, not 1 bit.. But you do need them. Xda needs to kiss the devs asses and make them feel like royalty, weather you like it or not, that's the only thing that will keep the devs here

No, it wont. These forums are very poorly moderated, I think the mods expect too much from people as far as reporting goes. Threads are made in the wrong section all of the time and dont get moved for days sometimes a week+ Some threads need to be cleaned of non contributing, repetitive crap. The list is longer than I care to sit here and type out. In the end, the lack of moderation and the bickering/immaturity that stems from every side of the table is going to do this forum in. It's not the first time and it wont be the last time. This site got too popular and too many people that have no desire to learn come here expecting to be spoon fed information. Anyways, it's sad to see that it had to come to this. Personally I think whatever action is taken might just be too late unless someone proactively tried to mend the situation from all angles.
I'd like to thanks the mods for their service to the community. You guys don't get paid to do this stuff, so we appreciate it. As for the developers, it's obvious that we all should have the utmost respect and thankfulness for all of them, as they contribute to the functionality and usability of our phones and expect nothing in return. The only thing that really, really hacks me is when people expect nice little packages to be delivered to their phone, (bug-free) and become downright donkey holes when they are asked to learn something themselves. XDA is a learning and collaboration portal, and those who demand something for nothing immediately give the lot of us a bad name. Keep up the good work mods and devs.
Thanks bro. Much appreciated. We DON'T get paid to do this, we are all here on a volunteer basis.
People have forgotten what XDA is truly about...DEVELOPMENT and COLLABORATION between users who want to get the most out of their devices, not a place to come and make your phone 1337.
But alas, all this will turn into is a flame war, so hey, hers some moderation since I apparently don't do my job. /s

Hyperdroid thread closed :(.

Another pissed of dev is clearly seems . Love using the surgeon.. was a lil tricky at first but worked a treat. And also people are using there work without no credit being given. Piss take as hyperdroid base is mega stable and has good features ...heres hoping he comes back... soon. He did kind of hint it at the end lol . What do yooooooou make of it.
looks like an iphone but powered by android baby!!!!
Hopefully the "team" (there's more than one man) are working on something good to come back with. I can completely understand why they closed it because the amount of lazy ass people that post in there looking for general support was a joke. They're nice people but there's a limit which has obviously been reached. We have a general section for general chit chat but people again are too lazy to use multiple fora to get what they require. Unfortunately the "user" will eventually ruin the "dev" focus of these forums.
In my opinion there should be a 100 post rule before you can even post in the developer forums. This would force the noobs top read the forums.

100% agreed. I'm sure it's been suggested before but always worth posting it in the support and feedback forum, go on you know you want to
Only backlash this would have is 100 posts elsewhere to get sufficient posts for them to plague the dev forums as they do now with the 10. It would possibly deter them though, anything's worth a try.

Hi,
you should not lump together all newbies.
There are also the other one's, which read a lot and learn by doing.
Although I'm new to Android at all, I try to help where I can (it's not much..) and you won't find nooby questions. Because all one want to know is somewhere anwered here.
Maybe Dev's should set up 2 threads, one for Q&A with a faq at beginning, supported mostly by the "key users", and one only for dev-related matters (no answers to silly questions...)
Only my opinion of course...
Regards
Norbert
100 post rule is bull, ya no why because they will just make new threads and ask the dumb ass questions.
I'm not a noob either i been here abour 5 years and watch this place go down hill so fast over the past year. I used to spend hours in the Leo section answering posts as demon man and got fed up of it. It isnt just the new people pissing devs off its the mods also there part to blame with there lame ideas, most of them just jump on there high horse. yes I can totally understand why devs just give up but then you have the likes of codeworkx who will tell you you will get abuse if you ask stupid dumb ass questions and abuse he will give, yet the stupid questions are still asked.
It doesnt take 10 mins to find 90% of your answers on here although the search button is a load of gash imo stickies are the best answer of read a few pages back but nobody seems to wanna do that anymore, hell the day i got my leo and touch diamond i nearly fudged them for not reading but after half hour of reading and looking you can find your answer the best bet would be that new topics have to be moderated first instead of the same question all the time go through and see how many posts there have been in the past 2 weeks about people screwing there efs folder that should be a stickie imo in bold.
I've been using xda for several years. I never post anything as the answer always seem to be available already posted my someone else.
Recently XDA has been an increasingly unpleasant place to visit. People seem to be unable to read more than the last 2 threads, have any sense of how to be even slightly polite and have no concept of the hard work an generosity of those developing and sharing. If i was a dev i'd have taken my bat and ball home ages ago.
I'll go back to reading, and tinkering with my phone.
1 post nearer 100
Many thanks to all those who give so much. Especially Pongster and his team.
Xda was awesome back in the windows mobile days Devs and noobs were very humble, civil helpful. There was no competition among devs and everyone used to work together.
Since android has come in this place has pretty much gone downhill. It is all about fame, donations now.
No offence, just a general observation.
Cheers.

2 threads seems good to me. .
looks like an iphone but powered by android baby!!!!
Extropy has hit the nail on the head. I couldn't agree more.
Lets hope something changes, It's no fault of Xda, it's just that over the last year Androids popularity has exploded, and thus the number of newcomers and freeloaders.
BUT what angers me is that for every so called "Annoying noob post" in the threads there are 10X responses from established members that are much more aggressive and rude in tone in comparison. I feel its quicker to help someone and guide them In a constructive way. It's annoying sure, but saves comeback questions, heated exchanges and tempers blowing up.
Something needs to change, but its going to be a tough one.
One things for sure, I've seen many Good devs leave, soon there will be threads with a lot more Kangs then there already are.
I hope this gets sorted.
Cheers guys

I disagree. Donations are fine in my opinion. I mean its hours spent trying to create something that everyone and yourself will like and share it for free. So a lil donation never hurts . With rom competition dont really see it tbh... i just think stealing some1 elses work is a piss take.

i do agree with what you are saying with the donations.. in an ideal world.
xda can always do this as an experiment.
see who remains when no donations are allowed.
pretty sure the kangs will stop rather quickly
as for the rule of 100 posts, its pretty easy to rack up, especially if they treat xda like twitter.
a combination of both number of years and post rule, with years taking precedence.
for ppl to post in dev threads anyway.
Sorry but I'm starting to get mixed feelings here. I've always been on their side and understand that they can get fed up. But it's as if being a noob is not permitted in their thread. No disrespect but they are coming across as elitist.
As for the devs that use their work without all due credit they are destroying xda spirit.
As far as I remember, from the WinMo days, it was the same old BS, just on a smaller scale, less devices, less forums, less posters, so it was all a more manageable talk for the mods/admind/etc to keep on top of.
I will be really sad if hyperdroid doesnt come back, I only really finished moving there from VR (Base got a bit old) and I dont want to have to find another rom, there all seem to be to themed rather than stable bases with the useful mods built in.
being a newbie is fine. We all start there.
bear in mind, n00b has a different meaning to what you are referring to here.
What differentiates newbies that are humble and n00bs are as below:
being a trolling n00b calling devs idiots, or demanding devs to give them exactly what they want, a n00b that can't read/search, a n00b that somehow thinks he knows best, a n00b that advices others to do weird/ridculous things to their phones, it can be pretty tiring.

this is also my impression. i liked hyperdroid since HD2. excellent work. top job.
hyperdroid was the main reason to buy an SGS2.
But in a thread beginning with:
"Goals of the ROM: Fast. Functional. Solid.
We want the ROM to be fully customizable by the most important person--- YOU, the user. We believe its your choice how you theme the device and that a ROM shouldn't just be themed creations based off another ROM."
Again: The most important person--- YOU, the user.
I think this should be a thread also for users. not only for devs. Did I get this wrong? ok, there where posts with awful context. but lump all users together?
one example of what i really don't understand: they say, the do their job primary for themselves. ok. but do the dev's need a OTA-Tool for themselves?
Users are the most important persons - and then they kick them out. This is a contradiction in my opinion.
i am very sad about this...
This was pongster's thread, his decision. I wish the guys the best for the future! So bye, bye hyperdroid ...

what kind of users are you talking about here?

being a newbie is fine.

I agree. But just read Pongster last post. He's got reasons to be angry but sounds a bit smug to me.
I never demanded anything or complained and moved to hyperdroid because the sounded committed while knowing what they talk about. I mean real development. But reading between the lines if you don't know how to use adb then you don't have the requested level. And you shouldn't report bugs.
So basically because of that + some disrespectful comments + stolen work they might stop sharing all along.
Well, it's their work, they don't owe us anything and it's only fair enough.
Life goes on and I won't beg them. If they come back then fine and I'd be pleased. However, even if I end up using their rom again, I won't post anything or ask help from them at all.
Edit: one more thing. Posting on their thread doesn't necessarily mean that you are requesting help from them. You ask help from those who use the same rom and may have encountered the same issue. Most of the time users help each other and that's the best way of learning.

Wow

Why would a mod close the sgs3 thread? It was a thread for fascinate owners who are considering upgrading. It was a discussion within this community by people who wanted opinions of others they have come to know and trust, not some fan boy who posts in the sgs3 forum. Why should I go there when the opinions I want are here. And it was in the general section ffs. I mean what was wrong with that, its not like it was posted in development. Get off your high horse, this is our community too.
Oh, and by the way, while you were closing this thread in general for no real reason, you missed two posts in development that don't belong. GTW

Since xda chooses not to assign mods who are a regular part of the community, mods routinely jump in with no sense of what is actually going on in the forum and go willy nilly. Then half the forum leaves and goes to rootzwiki until the mod loses interest.
Certainly not the first time this has happened.

Oh I know I just couldn't believe it happened to a benign general discussion thread is all.

a bunch of bs if you ask me...im suprised chef tony did that??
Edit: Never mind
I sent him a message at least asking why... I can't find any rules that we violated. this is why I've been bugging the admin to make either me, droidstyle, some well known person in the community a mod, it happens every few months that a mod comes in here and abuses their powers or something and pisses all of us off, we need somebody who is actually a part of the community that knows what is going on.
how come none of the threads that are in the wrong section have been fixed? how come the old threads from over a year ago that we keep requesting closes on are still open? how come the excess noob posts and things haven't been cleaned up at all? all that happened is some of our fun got ruined without him even giving a reason or explanation. just because you're a mod doesn't make you part of the community, or us not part of it. doesn't matter how much power somebody gives you if you use it wrong and on things you have no knowledge about.

Preach on. I've been on xda since the Eris and the fascinate forums since around launch. I really don't understand why xda stays with a mod system that it has clearly outgrown. The mods are good but the system sucks.

hi,
maybe i should have given a further explanation, why i closed the thread, but since i did not read it entirely, i wouldn't want to comment on the contents.
i did not close it for a real rule violation, but simply for the reason that the fascinate general section should be exactly that, general discussion of the fascinate, tips, tricks and tutorials. of course, users of one particular device also get together to talk about other devices, but at 10 pages, i felt it got a bit out of hand, because the same thing goes on with every device and when people start talking about a number of other devices in every device's section, it might get a bit cluttered.
still, i know, what you are getting at. i am mostly active in the sgs2 forum and of course, people are discussing the sgs3 there as well, with aspects only relevant to existing sgs2 customers, like if it is a good idea to upgrade, when you already have the s2 and what plans allow you to change phone after a year and so on. i understand the fascinate thread was basically the same thing, it was targetted entirely at current fascinate users from north america, most of them on verizon plans. that is something you don't have in the sgs3 section, yet.
closing the thread was just a first step, the plan is to move the thread to the sgs3 section and re-label it to give current (and former) fascinate users a platform to discuss the sgs3, with actual s3 users to look into and maybe offer a helping hand, since they already know everything about the device, but would not actually go into other devices' forums to help people there.
this step will be done in a few minutes, then the thread will be re-opened and has a permanent re-direct from the fascinate section, so you can still visit it conveniently from your device's section.
as you see, at no point was there any issue with the thread itself, it is just some minor maintenance to keep the forum clean and organized, feel free to continue the discussion in a few minutes.

So basically he did it so that we could have a thread in the GS3 section for once we get our GS3s. Would have been nice for him to tell us that.
lol i think there are more important things that need to be accomplished here at xda. first step would be organizing that cluster f*** of a sgsIII forum.
I was reading Chef Tony's response and at first was thinking thats bs reasoining, than he made sense and I agree with him. And its still convenient cause I check this forum not the GS3 that often, and the thread is still here is fine. I was wondering where that thread went earlier haha.
I'm not seeing the thread on my phone any more, can somebody link to it please?

Here ya go.
Reading this thread has made me a bit nostalgic. I've become quite accustomed to the little family of Fascinate owners here, small but dedicated. It now seems very real that the sgsIIIs are packed up and ready to ship. Even our threads are leaving us.
I don't post a great deal, but I follow you guys all the time. I suppose it was inevitable that the sgsIII would break things up, but it's sad nonetheless.
For those of you heading to the next big thing, I'll almost certainly see you there eventually. For those staying, I look forward to further discussions about the little phone that could.
I echo your sentiments. It's a shame that the powers that be decided to deprive us of the ability to discuss an issue that effects the community within the community. A thread in the gs3 forums is great and all but it isn't the same as it does not have the same dynamics or personalities.
Anyway, I may eventually make it over to gs3 land but aokp and devil kernel is a really nice setup on this venerable device. I honestly don't know if I can live without aosp and aokp so I may make it there eventually or just say screw it and snag a galaxy nexus on the cheap.
It's been excellent folks. This is the first phone I've ever truly found to be superb. But most of that is because of the hard work put in from devs like jt1134, adrynalyne, nitsuj, stephen, and many many others.
Those of you who are staying, I'll see you around. Those who are leaving, ill catch up with you all eventually

What gives with this place??

Why are we losing developer's. .is it xda policy, or are they just sick of to many questions of why dont it work? ?
Easily can be summed up in one word , entitlement! Saw this on the lg g3 forum, people think they are entitled to roms and the Dev are there to serve. Forget the fact these guys do it for free and share their work with and take the time write directions in there op .. That people don't bother to read! Start being respectful and grateful or learn to do the work yourself. I am not a Dev but I can def see their site of it.
I was questioned about his earlier.. So here is my opinion on it. A few pm's I have sent out confirmed a few things and even brought some other things to light I didn't even notice. Could additionally be some xda policy.
here
I hate people, this is why we cant have nice things.
What gives with this place. This place is amazing you can learn how to root android phones. Install custom recoveries. You can learn alot of stuff which can help you. You can ask seniors or others for help and they might cooperate. I am happy this site exists.

I too was inspired but recieved pms asking when my roms comming out n asking for etas its not coming out least not to xda
I can tell you it is not XDA policy.
What it most likely is from what I have read is the influx of the entitled members. Moderators are reactive. We need to see reports on posts, then we can see what is going on. The problem with that is sometimes no one reports a post or issue, and the flaming goes on for days before someone reports it. This is a site of over 6 million users...thousands joining each week. So many posts of "Give me root NAO!" "Can we haz update Nao" Or the ever popular "Your ROM looks like a child made it" It would be a great help if no one responded and someone reported it...eazy peezy clean up and PM sent to that member. Instead the developer stressed from all the constant updates and support, blows up at the member...he gets a PM saying please report and try not to respond...he feels moderators are not quick enough...they go to G+...then guess what...within a few weeks they are yelling at users on G+...telling them to be nice, patient...blah blah blah. So you have developers upset because they cannot curse out these entitled members and/or the entitled members drive them crazy. They would rather work with 150 users on G+ than thousands of users here.
We do what we can but cannot stop a post before it happens..and then the damage is done...no matter what the moderator does. How do you become a welcome site for new members if you ban them on the first mistake? We try to explain what they are doing wrong. You have no idea how much time the volunteer moderators here spend in PMs with members...and how often it ends up with the moderators being cursed out. We also spend a lot of time talking to these teams..doing what we can to convince them to stay....there is a lot the average user does not see. It is not simply a developer taking his ball and going home. Many plan this for months..building their own sites. So help us help you. Report, don't add to the drama and cleanup...Thanks!

Right. I miss being able to sit back and wait for cool roms & updates. But here in the Sprint Note 4 forums there's not much as far as developers goes. So what do you do? Either sit and cry or step up and do something yourself. I chose the latter. i'm a "take action" kind of person.

I agree . But you can't control the thoughts and opinons of others and people shouldn't be followers but responsible and respectful leaders instead. If somebody has a problem with XDA and/or members they want to pout, cry and throw fits. Then all of a sudden they want to take there "buddies" to their dream world "safe haven" where the grass is greener and things are so perfect and business is booming... uum ok, whatever. I refuse to play into that game. I'm a grown man and I accept and take responsibility for my actions and don't need to lay blame on XDA and/or it's not-so perfect members for my childish actions.

I agree with you but I also see a lot of immaturity on behalf of these disgruntled individuals. They can't handle a few whiney disrespectful members and think thinks should be perfect and handled immediately by the mod team. Yea, ok. They can go elsewhere and see how grenn that grass really is. I won't miss a thing because without XDA these brats wouldn't have a clue or the slightest inspiration to do what they do to begin with. Bite the hand that feeds you? That's never worked out well for anyone. This isn't a business it's a hobby for developers. I don't think the majority of these private dev "teams" are raking in enough cash to pay one months mortgage. I point and laugh every time i read those hate comments by the you know who's.

I will tell you why I am stopping for awhile, no one appreciates anything, no dev respect what so ever, so why do people continuously stay on the devs a$$ about a time a rom is going to be updated, and much much more. It gets old, serious.
I can see if the OP does not clarify what the rom is about or when it is updated, THEY DON'T READ! I had one guy call me every name in the book because he didn't do a backup and flashed my rom and it continuously bootlooped, he proceed to tell me if I was around him, he would kick my........you get the picture, I told him simply, build your rom. problem solved...I suppose.

I can honestly say that I have not seen it this bad since I joined back in 2007 - A lot of unappreciative people - Everything I know how to do on an android phone, I learned from this site - I'm guilty of not reading through a thread all the way before asking a question but I also understand what this is all about - I enjoy coming here and catching up on the latest - I've had many different android phones and this is where I always come to learn - All I can say is, Thank You to ALL of the people here - I really don't understand why some people are so ungrateful for something that is given to them for FREE. Sorry for the rant, just my thought on the matter...
Im a developer, not an android developer, but a developer. Ive used xda for years, I answer questions when I can here. I hope the developers dont bail I love to see their input on things. Their personal insight has always been invaluable. I thank all of you guys I hope you stay.

I don't understand some of these complaints we have nearly every custom ROM available..... When I first got here we had 1-2 stock/stockish roms now we have damn near every one that's out there.... I don't get it.... And as tat said I've learned everything I know from xda and some good friends from xda....no school, no classes, just searching, reading, and a few good friends..... Makes no sense to see these statements saying we have no roms, we have no devs, where are all the roms, where are all the devs....... If we are really so lacking in development why do we have so much available to us.... I can really only think of maybe 3/4 roms we don't have ....IMO only thing we are lacking in is custom kernels and we even have a couple of those..... Really makes no sense to me

It seems like people whining about the "lack" of ROMs and developers think its still 2010-2011. Back when I had my og evo 4g, there were so many ROMs it blew my mind. I don't think these people realize there are a LOT of premium android devices, and no one can expect these devs to buy every device and build a ROM for all of them.

This ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
And more....Xposed! Many people are not using custom ROMs anymore..stock with a few add-ons is fine when they have so much control of their own customization. Back in 2010-2011 everything was brand new Eclair and Froyo...so much innovation on mods and fixes...that eventually became part of Google code and most mods only needed a few tweaks to work on the next version of OS. Also back then you had teams and sharing galore...people were happy to share what they made and also how to do it...now some teams do not want to share, they keep the code to their teams only...Devs back then did it for love, the quest for donations was rare. And last but certainly not least...AT&T and Verizon! The 2 biggest carriers locking their phone completely...of course developers will buy something else that they CAN modify...and with that goes those devs that shared things across carriers. So when you feel..."lacking" in the development sense...look at the dev sections here and T-Mobile..then stop in and see the ghost towns in AT&T and Verizon. Moral of the story...be grateful for what you have and maybe think about becoming the next dev if you are sticking around Sammy.
I was thinking the exact same thing about the advances in android as a whole. Each version recently have been massive steps ahead IMO. Back then android still had a ton of tweaks that needed to be made be it for performance, battery life, or functionality. Now, Google has gotten a lot of good upgrades into the os so it doesn't need as much tweaking.
And xposed for sure. When that came out it became a game changer. Before, if you wanted to tweak anything it required someone to make a flashable theme for your ROM, or for you to dig in on your own and tweak it. DPI scaling was system wide and caused issues with some things.
Now we have SIMPLE tweaks for every aspect of the device it seems. And per app DPI changes!!!
I would love to be a dev but lack the time and resources to do stuff, so I'll happily support any dev that's willing to put the hard work into building a ROM. Used to be an HTC fan but Samsung will always be my go to manufacture as long as they keep having an external SD slot.
And big kudos to the CyanogenMod team. I finally decided to try out cm12 and I'm blown away with the level of refinement in the ROM and theme system. Its like I have a whole new phone. And to think they have a ROM for such a huge list of devices is nothing short of impressive.
I'll stick with sprint as long as they keep my unlimited data and keep my phones unlocked. Screw tmo and Verizon.
The other big thing I noticed. Custom kernels are becoming a thing of the past. Evo 4g had like, half a dozen different kernels, some were tweaks of each others, etc, because android still needed a lot of refinement. Now, there's some kernel tweaks, but nothing massive compared to back then.

Yeah I hate what people have done to good devs. If I like something they made I send them what I think is fair compensation for a single user. Strongsteve back in the gs3/note3 days was one of the best in my opinion.

Where at would love to check out your work
Definitely agree, when I had my OG EVO and EVO 3D there were so many ROMs, kernels, and mods I flashed 10 times a day lol. Now you find a ROM that you like and just tweak it with Xposed. I do miss the anthrax kernels...nothing compared. But I jumped off the HTC ship after my EVO 4G LTE, I got it replaced 6 times in 3 months and every replacement broke from the slightest thing. I loved my S5 and I love my Note 4 even more. I don't like how they integrated the battery and got rid of the SD slot on the S6 which is worrying, hopefully Sammy wakes back up and brings those 2 things back on the next line of Galaxys. I was surprised that there was even as many ROMs as there are for the Note 4 given that it's so new. My HTC phones I was always eagerly waiting for HTC to drop the source so a dev here could make a masterpiece...
