I've just downloaded the Amazon Kindle Reader app from the Market and sampled a few books. It is much better than my Nexus One and I could easily imagine using the Note as a ebook reader without the need to buy anything else.

Hello everyone!!
I'm debating on what to get. I'm not sure whether to purchase a Kindle Fire or a regular Android Tablet like the ASUS Transformer.
One of the main things holding me back is that the Kindle Fire only has 8GB of storage and no microSD slot to increase that.
Would you buy the Kindle Fire again after owning it?
Thanks!

I only bought the Fire because I was short on cash and only needed a tablet to develop software, connect to computers remotely, read books, watch a couple movies, listen to a couple music and browse the web. So far, the Fire has been doing those pretty well.
I'd definitely buy a full fledged tablet like the iPad 2 or Asus Transformer if I could spare the cash though but I definitely like my Kindle and want to keep it!
It just depends on your needs man but sometimes. If you don't need to do too many things on a tablet, just get the Kindle man it's only $200.
As above, I only bought the KF because it was a cheap way to get a durable small tablet for Internet access. As a Kindle E-Reader it's rubbish, bright backlit display and short battery life make it very poor compared to a regular Kindle.
if you have the money, I would get a full Android tablet. You can do everything the kindle can do on an Android tablet, but you can't do everything on a kindle fire that you can do on an android tablet.
That said, the Kindle Fire is excellent for streaming video, reading books, light game play, and general web surfing.
Anyone know what format the amazon kindle fire comical are in. I would love to sideload some in and have them reconized by the amazon app
You'll have to use a comic reader.
Comicat: http://www.amazon.com/Mean-Labs-ComiCat/dp/B004UBB1HQ
Perfect Viewer: http://perfect-viewer.en.softonic.com/android
There are more applications that provide comic reading but only know some.
I plan to get a neXus 7 soon. Now, my worry is how can I read magazines on it? I live in India and here, the playstore isn't even accessible.
My dad has an iPad 2 and I just love reading magz on it. I plan to replicate the experience on MY OWN neXus 7...
So without the Play Store being accessible, is there a way to read magazines? .pdfs or any other format?
Thanx!

The one thing a 10" tablet is better at is magazines.
The 7" form factor either shrinks the magazine a lot, or you scroll to see the whole page.
The Nexus 7 does PDFs - and magazines - fine, but for reading pleasure of magazines I would get a Nexus 10. Far better display than an IPad 2.
Getting back to your question - download PDFs to your 7. They will display fine with the pdf viewer.

Thanx...I wasn't aware of that. Also, I saw a couple of videos of an app called EZ viewer or something. The pdf pages lagged and weren't as smooth as the iPad..honestly, that got me rethinking my decision.
Also, the Mini is almost the same price. So now wondering what to pick...can u suggest some good apps for the neXus 7?

Check out Zinio. I have a couple of subscriptions through them and it works great. It offers a text view of articles in addition to the normal page view. If you don't have the Play Store you will have to find the apk and sideload it.
In addition to Zinio at the top of my list are Netflix, TED, Evernote, StubleUpon, Eye In Sky, Yelp, Nook, ezPDF Reader, Acrobat Reader, Wattpad, and Pandora.
For Android maintenance, monitoring, and benchmarking my favorites are ROM Manager (along with CWM Recovery Touch), Android Assistant, ES File Explorer, Titanium Backup, CPU Spy, DiskUsage, & Better Battery Stats. Some of these require root access of course.
FWIW, tablet size comes down to personal preference. I had a TouchPad (10") that worked very well with Android ICS that I sold in favor of my Nexus 7. I have all of my technical manuals (programming) in PDF form and have no problem reading them with ezPDF Reader and as I mentioned I read magazines and surf the web and haven't found the size to be a problem. In fact, the portability and weight make me want to play with the N7 more than I should .
If you just want things to be simple and work then I suggest the iPad Mini but if you like to customize and tweak then you can't beat the N7.
Hi all!
Anyone have any experience with the arc....and an idea if it compares to the nexus 7?
My wife wants to read on it mostly. I want to play games and stream movies. My gut says nexus 7 is the better choice. My concern is will she be happy reading with it. She uses her galaxy s2 now.....so nexus 7 can only be better I figure.
Any opinions would be appreciated.
The Kobo Arc is just android with a load of junk dropped on top that you're unlikely to ever use/need, but unlike the other readers out there you do get access to the Play Store/Market (pre-installed) without jumping through hoops which is nice.
But they're the same price in the UK as a nexus 7, so I'd get a Nexus every time
Edit - Forgot to mention, my limited use of an arc just left me wondering why they didn't just get a Nexus, It seems like a pretty underpowered device, too - but it's so difficult to tell when it was running all these pre-installed widgets.

Well the nexus quad 4 processor at 1.3ghz seems to be faster than 1.5ghz dual core.....that's the main thing leaning me towards the nexus 7.
My wife's concern is that ...to quote her...."I just want a real kobo reader"....but with the mono app on the nexus.....are they really much different for reading???
I have a Kobo Vox and the nexus 7, the Kobo 'experience' certainly wasn't a selling point for me, if she is invested in the Kobo store, you can run the Kobo app from the play store and get your content but I don't think you get the full Kobo setup with the social media integration etc. If she cares about that, get the Arc, otherwise the 7 is better in every other way. I use mine with moon reader and I don't miss the Kobo at all.

Actually the Arc runs the standard Android app from the Play Store. This is a change from the Vox, the old Kobo Android tablet, likely done for standardization. This means that the social reading aspects of the Kobo Arc would also be available on *any* Android tablet on which you install the Kobo app.
Long story short, Nexus 7 definitely wins. Although I have heard many users of both tablets reporting that the Arc feels like it has a higher build quality.
We got a nexus 7.....very happy with it!
Lasted a day tho...then I rooted and put slim rom on it....like my phone! Lol

Screen is the most important for reading, and since both tablets have LCD (not e-paper), it doesn't matter. If your wife is only going to read on it, get what you want (N7 ). My girl has swallowed 50 shades darker on my N7, she couldn't care less about screen or tablet or app, she just cared about content.
I've tried several reading apps, and I find moon reader great for comics (CBZ/CBR), but for books I prefer Mantano reader.
If you already have books in kobo library, then I suppose you need to use the kobo app.
Oh, I don't know how much you care about that, but on N7 you can create multiple users, which might come in handy.
I would like to replace my kf with a tegra note 7(same res as n7), but I'm not sure how good ebooks with look in the kindle app or moon reader.

Great. Tried Moon and Mantano reader (which I prefer).
If you are only going to read books, rather get the cheapest kindle, the e-ink screen is way better for long readings.
