Anyone know what format the amazon kindle fire comical are in. I would love to sideload some in and have them reconized by the amazon app
You'll have to use a comic reader.
Comicat: http://www.amazon.com/Mean-Labs-ComiCat/dp/B004UBB1HQ
Perfect Viewer: http://perfect-viewer.en.softonic.com/android
There are more applications that provide comic reading but only know some.

I was wondering how would you compare the reading experience on your DHD vs Kindle/Sony/whatever E-INK Reader.
What do you use more for reading and why ?
If you already have a DHD, would you also buy an ereader on top of it or is the DHD good enough to read books daily ?
I have the kindle app and a 3g Kindle. I use the Kindle constantly and the kindle app infrequently. The DHD screen just doesnt compare to the Kindle for reading, the E-Ink screen is very clear and easy on the eyes - they are both excellent at doing what they are designed for but the Kindle is my top purchase of the year. Another benefit is that you never need worry about the battery with the kindle, lasts for weeks. The store is great too, last night whilst stuck in a hotel I finished the book I was reading - pressed a couple of buttons on the kindle and I had downloaded the sequel. If you read a book a week (or two) I'd use the Kindle, if you read a book a month perhaps the app would suffice.
I agree with the above.
The DHD is very good for reading (it could be enough if reading only occasionally), but I only use it when I don't have the Kindle with me (i.ex it allows me to continue reading my books when I am away).
The Kindle really feels like a book (I have it in the amazon lighted leader cover). Before getting it I was worried that I would be missing the feeling of reading and holding real books, but now I prefer the Kindle to the books; it's much more convenient
I've just downloaded the Amazon Kindle Reader app from the Market and sampled a few books. It is much better than my Nexus One and I could easily imagine using the Note as a ebook reader without the need to buy anything else.
How functional is viewing eTextbooks on the Nook Simple Touch if rooted?
I haven't rooted my Touch yet, but I was hoping for the ability to read my college textbooks on my touch.
I downloaded some books for my classes next semester and put them on the touch yesterday. However, the formatting is pretty awful, lol.
Does rooting help solve this problem?
It would be awesome to be able to read all my textbooks at little to no cost and the portability of the nook touch.
If your textbooks are in PDF, rooting may improve reading a little bit, as you'd be able to use apps such as ezpdf (it was 0.10 USD yesterday), which allows you to read pdf files in landscape mode, which improve reading quite a bit, and you can also highlight and add notes to your text.
If you use epub books, I guess original nook reader is quite good, but you can also profit from rooting, by using other readers, such as fbreader or coolreader.
pdf was never intended for what it is used for now which is why its such a pain in the ass on smaller screens.
there's quite a few pdf readers to choose from and they work pretty good.
still, its better to republish in an electronic format because pdf is meant to be an electronic approximation of the printed word. republishing from electronic to electronic such as html allows for reading on different screens
I've rooted mine and with the use of ezpdf have used it for reading for school.

Thanks, I will have to give ezpdf a try.
I plan to get a neXus 7 soon. Now, my worry is how can I read magazines on it? I live in India and here, the playstore isn't even accessible.
My dad has an iPad 2 and I just love reading magz on it. I plan to replicate the experience on MY OWN neXus 7...
So without the Play Store being accessible, is there a way to read magazines? .pdfs or any other format?
Thanx!

The one thing a 10" tablet is better at is magazines.
The 7" form factor either shrinks the magazine a lot, or you scroll to see the whole page.
The Nexus 7 does PDFs - and magazines - fine, but for reading pleasure of magazines I would get a Nexus 10. Far better display than an IPad 2.
Getting back to your question - download PDFs to your 7. They will display fine with the pdf viewer.

Thanx...I wasn't aware of that. Also, I saw a couple of videos of an app called EZ viewer or something. The pdf pages lagged and weren't as smooth as the iPad..honestly, that got me rethinking my decision.
Also, the Mini is almost the same price. So now wondering what to pick...can u suggest some good apps for the neXus 7?
Sent from my RaZr on MIUI.
Check out Zinio. I have a couple of subscriptions through them and it works great. It offers a text view of articles in addition to the normal page view. If you don't have the Play Store you will have to find the apk and sideload it.
In addition to Zinio at the top of my list are Netflix, TED, Evernote, StubleUpon, Eye In Sky, Yelp, Nook, ezPDF Reader, Acrobat Reader, Wattpad, and Pandora.
For Android maintenance, monitoring, and benchmarking my favorites are ROM Manager (along with CWM Recovery Touch), Android Assistant, ES File Explorer, Titanium Backup, CPU Spy, DiskUsage, & Better Battery Stats. Some of these require root access of course.
FWIW, tablet size comes down to personal preference. I had a TouchPad (10") that worked very well with Android ICS that I sold in favor of my Nexus 7. I have all of my technical manuals (programming) in PDF form and have no problem reading them with ezPDF Reader and as I mentioned I read magazines and surf the web and haven't found the size to be a problem. In fact, the portability and weight make me want to play with the N7 more than I should .
If you just want things to be simple and work then I suggest the iPad Mini but if you like to customize and tweak then you can't beat the N7.
I would like to replace my kf with a tegra note 7(same res as n7), but I'm not sure how good ebooks with look in the kindle app or moon reader.

Great. Tried Moon and Mantano reader (which I prefer).
If you are only going to read books, rather get the cheapest kindle, the e-ink screen is way better for long readings.
