I was reading online [ http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-09-06-sony-ericsson-no-need-for-xperia-play-2 ] where it was reported that an Xperia Play 2 might be in the works to compete with the iPhone 5. I know that's not true because the Xperia Play is very new.
What I found interesting about this was a comment left on the story. This in particular caught my attention:
1 - Quote from original article, "Still, with the impending launch of the iPhone 5, some have wondered when Sony Ericsson will launch an Xperia Play 2. "
2 - The comment on the quote, "Surely nobody would put those two in the same sentence? "
My initial thought was that the person who wrote that was just making an ignorant statement, then I thought maybe I'm the one who's ignorant.
So could you guys tell me what the iPhone, [latest version of IOS] can do, that the Xperia Play, [latest version of Android] can't do ?
I for one have used the iPhone [3G,] though I don't own one, I do however own an iPod Touch 2G, and there is no way I would choose ANY version of iPhone [IOS] to the latest Sony Android phones, with most of my feelings being based on the performance of my Xperia Play.
So once again I ask, please share your view.
The ONLY advantage that iOS devices have over the Play right now is the fact that there is just WAY more games out and therefore more variety. the iPhone 4 does not have any more horsepower than the Play, however the 5 will likely... Doesn't necessarily mean the games will take advantage of it or what.
That said, touch gaming sucks balls, so the graphics could be better, and playing them would still suck.
"touch gaming sucks balls, " I agree 100 percent with that.
I honestly thought there was something I was missing, cause the person said, "Surely no-one would put those two in the same sentence," I would put those two in the same sentence, infact I would say the Xperia Play [with or without gamepad] offers a similar, if not better, experience than a jailbroken iPhone/iPod Touch 4g.

If I was given a choice of either an iPhone 5 or an xPlay 2, my money would go to Sony. Hands down.
Even now, the iPhone 4 is a joke compared to an xPlay.
What good are games on the iphone if they are not playable? I think every console game from atari to the psone should be counted on the xperia plays game list.
I am sure the iphone 5 will out perform xperia play when it comes to playing the latest version of angry birds
Sent from my R800i using xda premium
I'll pass on angry birds, I would actually like to see a good RPG on the Xperia Play. Eternal Legacy was a step in the right direction, but still not up to par.
I never had an iphone but i recommend them to every girl thats asks me what phone to buy
Yea it shouldn't be in the same sentence... Why are we comparing the play masterpiece to a phone with all sorts of restrictions. Doesn't matter what game they get, no control pad = not real gaming.
The only advantage an iphone has working for them is that it does look attractive. It's more of a fashion accessory as 90percent of iphone users only use it to text talk and browse...

End of the day, you ask anyone here how satisfied they are with there xperia play. I bet you 95%+ would be more than satisfied. Now go to an Iphone forum and ask the same question about the Iphone 4.
Btw here is a better comparison, not by a website trying to brown nose apple in the hope of future advertising revinue

This! I actually sold my iphone 4 to get the Xperia Play, the Play is also a lot more powerful than the iphone 4 (cpu and gpu).
The iphone 4 screen is tiny compared to the Plays! what good is the retina display if the screen is so small?!
And don't forget all the other superior features on the Play compared to iphone 4:
Gamepad, Android --> iOS, xLoud stereo speakers, overclocking, custom roms and kernals, unlimited customization, widgets, fantastic emulation, ps one games, ps suite in the near future, list goes on and on and on!
iPhone 5 features

LMAO..
Seriously, If you're on gaming, no need to compare the iPhone 4 to our SEXplay..
There's a lot of game that I can't finish on 3gs using the onscreen controls (e.g. Assassin's Creed) been playing that for months but still I can't finish it..
Then I played it on our phone, and finished it for about a week (1-2hrs of playing everyday) thanks to dedicated gamepad of SEXplay..
pfft! I can't believe people still like the iphone with all the way better android phones out there, plus some dummy lost a prototype iphone5 in a the bar somewhere in San Francisco!

If I were you I'd recommend the Xperia Ray once it's out. It's a brilliant girly phone... same supercamera and resolution as the other Xperias, but in an aluminium body and a screen of 3.3 inches. I'm a guy, but still... DO WANT

That dude will be SO disappointed when it actually comes out, lol.
Gaming on touch screen Android phones is a mess in general. Trying to play a fighting game on my 4th Gen iPod Touch was a mess even considering how hard Capcom tried to make it work. A lot of games look absolutely brilliant (especially on the Retina Display), but the quality of the game or the control mechanics usually doesn't match.
Touch screen can make strategy title's better than any button setup, but it's simply too lackluster in accuracy, precision and responsiveness for any genre that involves real-time action... and you can tell devs know this too because they have to load the games with extreme assistance, auto-aim and the like.
Xperia PLAY ends takes mobile smartphone gaming out of the ghetto... the awesome thing is that it also performs above average in all those non-game areas too... so yeah... I probably won't be upgrading to another phone for a REALLY long time.
In my opinion, for gamers (male n female gender):
Xperia Play for male
Iphone for female
Who knows in the future, both of 'em get married and we'll have APPLE SON? SON APPLE? LOL
lets get real for a moment.
You bought a gamepad with a decent android cell phone attached to it.
You didnt buy a psp phone
You didnt buy a vita
Nor a ps3
This is an android. Same as all the other androids of 2011.
Spec's may be a tad different but they all run virtually the same.
Do not let the name sony fool you, it was sony Ericsson who brought the phone out and they didnt really have much to do with sony themselves, in fact they were only just recently completely bought out by them.
Do not overhype this device, its a great android device but it is not a ps3 that makes phone calls anymore than a windows phone is a portable xbox360.
If there is some great, but dont expect exclusives. Remember it is an android so any exclusive to this phone technically only means its not on the iphone or windows phone 7.
So please stop the hating and the ignorance. If you expected the xperia play to be anything more than what it is and were let down, you only have yourself to blame.
I agree with you, but the first sentence isn't needed.
Fixed it up
This thread confused me...it sounded like you were hating on the XperiaPLAY at first, then your closing sentences defend it. You should open with positive reinforcement of the device, rather than all the negative sounding things you opened with. Otherwise you'll just confuse folks, as I am still confused on your feelings about the phone haha.
I knew what I was purchasing when I bought it, and I''m super happy about it. Dis fone rulz
I love the play, there has just been a big rush of noobs on the forums though complaining about exclusives, lack of psp game, no god of war... Just want people to come back down to earth
Not sure it was It was intended to be a psp phone, does it say on the box, no, good points there tho

the xperia play is a great device but they definitley could have put better hardware in it the arc and the play should be one phone that would make the perfect play
I love my Play! I honestly havent played much games on it! I do love the idea though that when i do want to play games, i can play better games than any other Android device out there! (by better i mean full functioning controller, instead of trying to peek around touch screen analog stick, directional pad, and finger prints!.. lol) This is by far the best Android device i have owned. (spec wise) I honestly feel like im carrying around my PSPgo at times, which i also loved that too! So basically now i have my portable game, mp3 player, portable video player, and phone all in one!
im also a Soldier, so its amazing when i have to go away for a month at a time for training!

something like god of war - resistance - uncharted -little big planet ...
nothing nothing nothing
i just want to say : sony , if you kidding us and don't want to make your big games on xperia play , make a emulator for play psp and ps2 games instead
you promised to make new version of playstation suit . please do it...
It seems to me that the Xplay was made to attempt to convert casual smartphone game players to hardcore gamers that use physical controls to counter the huge loss of market share to touch screen only games by console games. Sony Ericsson doesn't seem to aim the Xplay at hardcore console gamers, but to introduce casual smartphone gamers to hardware controls. As it stands now it was implemented decently; it would've been a huge fail it the hardware controls couldn't be used to navigate but they wisely chose to include it.
The name Xperia Play seems to be a wordplay, hence PlayStation Experience, or the PlayStation Experience phone as opposed to the Google Experience phone.
Sony should be pushing PlayStation Suite pretty soon to complement the release of the Sony Tablet S, the Sony Tablet P, and the soon to be released PlayStation Vita, all of which are PlayStation Certified devices that will have access to PlayStation Suite games.
To appreciate the Xplay, one has to understand that it's purpose is to introduce PlayStation-controller-styled hardware controls to the portion of consumers who haven't been introduced to them yet. If you're anti-physical-input or you insistent on using frustrating virtual controls to play games then the Xperia Play is not for you.

i agree with you, it would seem that too many people have bought this phone with the expectancy of it being more than it actually is
Yeah this quickly turned into exactly what the OP was talking about. My question however is, will each PS Certified device, such as the Play, Tab S, Tab P, and Vita, require their own ported version of each game, or will the game for Play work on all and vice versa? I ask cause if each game has to be ported individually for each device, then its going to take awhile to get new games, and people just need to be patient. I also own the Tablet S. and there isnt that many games for it either, but i dont really care, i didnt buy it for the games.
The PS suite SDK is common to all the PS certified devices.
I love the play except for 2 things,
A. The touchscreen is buggy (all my friends who have one have the same problem) where it registers random touches
B. The menu keeps still forgetting when I choose Alphabetical order (but it only seems to occur in high memory usage times, eg. after quitting a memory intensive game or something)

My only gripes with it are lack of HDMI/MHL support and low internal storage; two things that would've significantly improved the sales, shelf life, and enjoyability of the phone. The PlayStation Vita will suffer the same lack of HDMI support.
The Xplay is an Android phone that has physical game pad controls, nothing more nothing less.

There are a lot of games in the Market that works on multiple devices, but so far what titles ive seen w/ is created for X-Play only is Experiment 13 or what, great titles are not ported to this device, games are limited and a lot of them are kids game. Final Fantasy Remake, Devil May Cry and a lot more names that popularized on PS are created by Japanese. Im quite disappointed getting this phone, for no reason i didnt get the play station satisfaction. Itll be much better if sony would own modifications for xplay such as camera mod and game keyboard.

Mmh, Im pretty happy with play, It got vastly more support and was way more succesfull than Nokias Ngage and Ngage 2 software. Xplay perfected the formula and is heading to right direction.
Emulators work and there is few decent games on the market, I will be there buying Xplay 2 without hesistation
Granted, price was too high but there was multiple reasons, one being unique game pad that wasnt even mass producted before (I dont think they directly used PSP GO's model to create Xplay's plastics)
Besides, PS suite is yet to come, things might get interesting
After a year, few games ported ti xperia play, assassins creed and the devil may cry 4 fr. Japan... Oh yeah final fantasy also created on Japan and has english only for iPhone.

I dont think those are PS suite content (just PS store)
PS suite just entered Open Beta, just wait till its open for public (other than for developers)
you should try using PSXPERIA, it could convert your backup images (.bin, .iso, .img) of Playstation games into an APK, and it will be integrated into your Playstation Pocket, take a look at this link to see how it works now:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1530228
Besides using PSXPERIA, we can also play many HD games for ANDROID with the gamepad and even touchpad, it is the difference that we had and the others couldn't have it. you should try games that were published by Gameloft, EA, and Glu. they have many great games with many genre available..
Xperia Play is the best phone that i ever have, i bought it together with 2 of my friends, and one of them already sold it, because he didn't know how to maximize the potential of Xperia Play, you should try to use Stock Based Custom ROM, using PSXPERIA, and play Android HD Games in you XPeria Play
Regards
If you want games which don't treat you as a 13 year old, don't let 13 year olds (actually their parents) buy smartphones. Only now are we starting to see mature stuff (or at least parent-service of some kind) in video games, when some 30 year olds play with them.
XPlay-Swype
I'm lovin the phone
I'm sorry you don't get the joy out of the phone as the rest does.
But I honestly can't get your reason, you even say you are dissapointed for no reason... so
You can't get the playstation feeling? There are more than 300 android games out which work with the dpad, 300 games that your friends have to play via annoying touch controls. Even tho Shadowgun, Backstab, Gangster Rio and so on aren't playstation titles, they are awesome to play and no kid games... Besides.. you can play various Playstation games, FinalFantasy, Gran Turismo, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid to name just a few.
Plus All those other emulators SNES/N64/Dosbox/Sega which let you play classic games with the dpad... It's awesome!!! Here a quick round of Street Fighter on SNES, bit of Mario on N64, kill some zombies in resident evil....
You get a full android phone with all the goodies + an Univarsel pocket gaming machine <3
I guess you either love the phone, or do not care for its features in which case you shouldnt have got it in the first place.
Playstation Suite is not something that can be released as such, it is a developer program, enabling the users of Playstation Certified devices to download games from a community of developers, these developers, through the playstation suite SDK can take advantages of Playstation Services, however currently not trophies. These games will then be added to the Playstation Store on your XPlay.

i'm sure if samsung or htc were experienced enough on games as prefect as sony has , they allways wold make sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many #1 games , and they would show off on their mobile-play technology !
i can't understand why sony with this huge experience on PS1, PS2 ,PS3 , psp and vita don't want to make its #1 games on xperia play ! or don't want to make a powerful xperia play !
our xperia play is really out of date for #1 games ...
Try Emus like FPSE (Y)
With those Emus you can play all these old but gold games like Tekken 3 or Wipeout 3 or somenthin else

When I say they fail, I mean the selection of games. The PSP was seriously lacking in selection of good titles. The PSP Go just made things worse.
And now look at the Play. Yes, the device itself is great, just like with the PSP, but really, how many good games has Sony released for it, or how many exclusives have we been given by their partners? Almost nothing. I don't consider gameloft adding a few pieces of code for our controllers a big deal, as their games are half-ass most of the time anyway.
And aside from the controller code, we haven't seen any optimization to make up for our modest hardware, so a lot of games lag. Yes you can fix some of it with overclocking, but that isn't something that should be required. A gaming device should be ready to handle games right out of the box, not require hacking to make them run at a playable fps rate. Had Sony worked harder to bring us optimizations, we wouldn't be having this problem.
And yes, optimized code really does make that much of a difference. Try this as an experiment, I dare you: Get GTA San Andreas for PC, and try running it with the same computer, but switch between two video cards of equal specs, one ATI, and one nvidia. It'll run one hell of a lot better on the nvidia card. Why? Because Rockstar Games optimized the game for NV cards.
The hardware isn't the issue. The issue is that Sony promises it's customers a lot of things that they never deliver. Where's our mobile PS suite? Where are all the exclusive games we were supposed to get? What about the original PlayStation titles that never showed up?
They did the same thing with the PS3. Look how long it took them to get a few decent games that weren't on every console. PS3 owners were led to believe they'd get the best game system on the planet, so they paid double the price of an Xbox, and what did they get? A bluray player that also has a few games they could have played on a console that costs half the price. Well, was half anyway. Not anymore, but how many years did it take?
I heard a few people say the devices will improve now that Ericsson is gone, but frankly I don't think that's the case. It seems highly likely that the Sony half of the company was playing a large part in the problems regarding updates, missing promised features etc. Seems all too obvious given their history with devices that were made solely by them.
It's not about hardware, it's about the user experience.

oh ,thanks god , finally i've find someone that have same opinion with me!
i'm agree with you my friend .
on my opinion , we had bought xperia play (as a gamer ) cause we love sony's exclusive games , sony promised a lot of games ...
i always was with sony , from playstation1,ps2,psp ....till now(ps3) . i'm personally waiting (for one year ) to see a sony's exclusive game . but nothing happened !
as capitan67 said above , we have to root , convert game's image... but what sony have done ?!
after one year , they have forgotten all promises and just lunch TAKKEN1 with some of useless games !
hey guys , does sony kidding us ?! what can we do with TAKKEN 1, why medievil 1 ?! ...
i can remember 2 years age , when i had bought X10 mini pro and what SonyEricsson had done with us on X10 series .
i though thought this time , sony will make all promises true !
excuse me if my English is bad , i don't want to blame sony , i'm still with sony , i just wanna say that we don't need GAMELOFT or other mobile-game-developer. i prefer to play n64 , ps1 , snes games will all long and nice story instead of gameloft... low level's game.
i could buy a galasy s2 , or galaxy note if i want to play mobile-global games , cause that's display screen is much better, also cpu ang GPu ...
i had bought xperia play , cause i'm GAMER , i love SONY'S GAMES , i LOVE SONY'S EXCLUSIVE games . ..
i don't know , what sony will promise to us on xperia play 2 ?!?
But maybe you should enjoy this device
However, xplay is the only phone which has the keyboard game, just like the PS. And that's so cool

I think the real reason why Sony has not been able to release any good games via the PlayStation Pocket App for the Xperia Play, such as FF7 or FF8, is because unlike releasing these games on a console like a PlayStation 3 or a PSP, which has their own custom OSs [operating systems] the Xperia Play runs Android. Releasing FF7 or a big game like that for the Play would be like releasing it for Android. In no time every other Android user would have access to the game. I think a developer like Square Enix would much prefer charging $10-$20 for FF7 on iOS [iPhone,] which supposedly has more customers willing to pay for that content. It's really not Sony's fault, it's actually the game developers. Just look at what Square Enix has done with iOS. They have released multiple Final Fantasy games, created an RPG specifically for the platform [Chaos Rings,] all while pretty much ignoring Android. It's not so much that the developers are ignoring the Xperia Play, they are in fact really ignoring Android.

Maybe the Xperia Play has not done too well in terms of good quality games released on the Games for Playstation or any other Xperia Play optimized games but it still has its pros. It's perfect for a guy like me who loves to play NES and SNES games with emulators or even PSOne games on FPSe.

Blablabla "Xplay with one year old = Xplay is a fail, is ****, is horrible".
If you get a Samsung Galaxy S3 you will find the same games but with some better graphics. And you will have to play using the touchscreen. xD
I'm tired of all people that thought that the Xplay is some kind of console. The Xplay is a normal Android mobile, with gaming controls to play more confortably the same games for another normal Android mobiles. END. It wasn't going to have exclusive games made only for it and it will never have them. So now you know what it really is, has it really been a fail? It has tons of games compatible with its physical controls (few phones have this preferent treatment). Stop just seeing the dark side of all!
If you want high quality console games and a phone then glue your desired mobile phone to a Playstation Vita or a Nintendo 3DS.
Oh, and learn to enjoy what you buy. People is begining to think it's normal to throw away their smartphones (and other similar devices) after one year (or less!) of use just because they are tired of them. That's an enormous waste of resources.

Oh and one more thing I just wanna thank Sony Ericsson for making the Xperia Play cause this is the only smartphone out there that has a physical gamepad unless of course if in the future HTC or Sony come out with something.
But for now I can boast that I have smartphone with a gamepad !

Although HTC said it will no longer be making slider phones, I doubt they will make a new Play
Sony seems to be running out of design ideas, so I hope they see the Play as a new opportunity to get back into the playing field. Xperia Ion looks like its going to bomb 10x harder than the Play ever would.
If Sony/Microsoft can create another good Gaming Phone, I would love to purchase it.

Your post is completely wrong. The device was supposed to be a gaming device. They promised us the PlayStation store and lots of PS titles but we never got them. Also if it wasn't supposed to be a gaming device then why did they even waste their money and time on a gamepad for the device. A device with PlayStation controls is a gaming device. Personally I like my play. Many games are out for it and are play optimized. So people saying there aren't many games for it need to search a little more. There is tons. And I haven't found another device with better sound than the play. Those stereo speaker have such a clear sound to it and have amazing bass. All other devices sound like they are being played underwater or sound like they are being played through a tin can. Yes SE scammed us all by not giving us what they said they would. And also the play had many games threat were play exclusives like minecraft and a few games from THD devices. If Sony were to keep up and give us what they said they were then maybe the device would've done better. If they brought more ps titles out then yes it would've done well even with outdated hardware which to me doesn't bother me in the slightest as there are very very very few games or apps that need a quad core with 1gig of ram. It's a phone not a laptop or pc. The Play is what you make of it. And mine is good as like what I have got. ICS not being given does not bother me in the slightest as ICS isn't all that great anyway. It lags because it's a RAM hog. And it's a juice drinker. GB runs better and uses less power as it isn't constantly trying to sort background processes out etc.....
Anyways that's my two cents or should I say two dollars

God damn to many aspiring writer's on here. It's a first generation phone the one and only with physical pads. I'm thirty and hopefully will live another fifty years and ya its done. Technology is moving fast. Oh my God there will never be another phone with game pads. Look further into the future and not just a year or two ahead. I can't wait. Hopefully I can get a new liver in twenty because I drank my away.

Commercially, I'd say so. But for those ill-concerned with sales, Xperia Play brings a LOT to the table that'll make the sales-counters stop caring. You can find other physical controller solutions out there for other smartphones, but they don't really do much aside from let you play emulators with buttons. That's good for classic games, but we're in a modern era.
Xperia Play's the absolute best smartphone gaming option for people who want MORE than classic gaming. Yeah, it's good for emulators... but you can beat dead horses with a PSP, GP32, OpenPandora, Dingoo A320, JXD S7100, Yinlips YDPG18 or any smartphone on this planet that has bluetooth... Xperia Play's about the only one that's good for people who don't just want to beat dead horses... but rather want to take advantage of that 854x480 screen and modern day improvements in game mechanics.
And when we insert that factor, no other gaming phone allows us to play MODERN games like Dead Space, Sonic 4, Shadowgun, King of Fighters, N.O.V.A. 3 and the like as well as Xperia Play does... they'll, at best, have under 50 "general d-pad compatibility" titles under their belt, but not a single one of them has hundreds of games relieved from lame-ass touch controls like Xperia Play does.
...and as crazy as it sounds, my fresh, revolutionary, beautiful Vita is getting monumentally less playtime than my Xperia Play. So yeah... might not be doing hot in sales, but as far as software support goes... I don't see this locomotive stopping any time soon.

Amen, well said. I absolutely love my Xperia PLAY. Yeah it doesnt have the top of the line specs but who cares. This things rocks. I hate touchscreen controls. Absolutely hate them. However on my phone......awesome. Love it. Nuff said. Appreciate what you have and enjoy it.
Only God knows where the next PLAY, or PLAY-like device will come from. It could be Nintendo of all people, I mean they really don't have anything to lose. Either way, the PLAY, in my mind is falling short due to the fact that you can now use wireless gamepads on their tablets or phones, the PLAYs lack of HDMI compatibility, and other unnecessary features like HD sound, although HDMI should have been added to non-dev phones. So in other words the plays capabilities can be achieved by buying some additional accessories. So, unfortunately, I doubt that Sony alone will attempt to develop a PLAY 2, unless it turns into a last resort, as it is obviously not their biggest concern. I would try to keep som hope though.
I do agree that the play is the most supported phone when it comes to games like N.O.V.A., but as time passes, the hw gets a little more outdated, and after so long android 5.0 will come along, and gb will more or less be phased out by developers. Aside from that, it definitely rocks, especially when people look and ask "Woah, what is that?". Makes my day.

I was hoping HTC and Sony might possibly collaborate, but I hadn't heard about their slider discontinuation. Hopefully, they'll make an exception. Samsung wouldn't be bad either, but I doubt they have any interest in such things.

i'm still hoping to have new xperia play (( mybe by other name : xperia PSP , psp phone ... ))
i'm wondering , there is so many eager people that count the days and crossing finger for next (high-end) gameing phone , but sony still haven't plan on that .
i'm really in love with my beautiful xperia play , but i will it could be possible to change the CPU and RAM , like desktop , couse today , it's really out of date( H/W )
Portable emu.
On live.
Best in class GPS
Awesome android smartphone
720p camera and video
Game pad.
Low price in 2012
Who can ask for anything more?
Psp games? Who gives a crap because I sure don't.
Haters who own one there are few and mostly just forum trolls. How's your HDMI mehdi?
Hater who don't have one. Just jelly I got one and you don't. Oh look another head shot, ya man that's a play owner.
Xperia Play is now an outdated phone. New games doesnot seem to support play because it has an old gpu and only a single core cpu.
I think sony should come up with a new "XPERIA PLAY 2" which should have a 4.8" 720p HD screen, 1.5GB RAM, 1.6GHz Quad-Core CPU and TEGRA 3 GPU. It will be a beast, even better than PS vita...!!!!
P.s: I dont know why you people hate touch screen gaming. I love it. I reached "Rank 70 with more than 6000 kills" at modern combat 3 multiplayer" within only a month on my S2...!

We hate touch screen gaming cause we are all gamers and need physical buttons !
i love the play.
it would have been perfect for me if it had launched with 1giga Rams and at least 2gb storage.
I'm kinda over the low RAM and will most likely upgrade to the hayabusa when it becomes available.
If Microsoft made a gaming phone..... It would dominate and blow away all competitors, even phones like the S3. But they don't even have a foot in the handheld battlefield YET. So it's probably not gonna happen for a long time. Xplay is cool and yeah people get bored of it quite easily. But I look at it as the stepping stone for much greater things ahead. Just hope I'll be alive and not have crazy arthritis or something to be able to enjoy it. Our kids are gonna have some crazy high tech stuff when we're all old and they'll take our places in these forums lol.

So i was just browsing around and apparently XOLO is releasing a new gaming phone. At first i was excited cause the name was "XOLO Play" and i don't know about you guys but that very sounded familiar. So yeah with my heart full of hope and my head full of dreams i clicked on the link, and thats when i got angry. NO PHYSICAL CONTROLS!!!!!!! Come on now, just cause you call it a gaming phone doesn't make it a gaming phone, and if you are going to call it a gaming (no physical controls) phone at least give is some out of this world sick specs. These don't even compare to the latest phones let alone make it a genuine gaming phone. Compare this to the HTC ONE, Sony Xperia Z, or the Samsung GS4 and it pretty much nothing.
Are you guys feeling the same way about these so called "Gaming Phones"?

XPERIA PLAY 2 WHERE ARE YOU?
yeah it's a pity
i would use my old nokia and buy a gcw zero handheld instead of buying a high-tech phone when my play dies. just bought the play for emulation on the go.
it's my new n-gage (had both of them ) as it should be - just a lot more fragile
i'll buy that on first day , if that has physical gamepad.
but how ! how a phone can serve to gamers without pgysical game pad ????!!1
suerly , without gamepad , xperia ZU is much better that it ....
where is xoeria play 2
I think there will be no Xperia play. Sony decided to join that race for fast and thinner handset, there no room for chunky gaming phone for nerds
But seriously, if not Sony there will be other manufacturer. When you look how games develop on Google Play market. I know majority of people play Angry birds, Candy crush saga etc. so they don't need pad to play. But from other side you got games like MC, NOVA or even DH, that games played smearing your fingers on screen seems wrong and these games need proper gamepad.
Btw. found this on YT, interesting concept:
at the moment i don't think there is a profitable market for aaa console class games. since android seriously has to deal with piracy and every dev seem to push the price even lower. it came so far that newer games have to use in app purchases to get the development costs back in.
a market could be created however. when some bin manufactures decide to do real gaming devices like a psp vita.
or we need something like steam on android where the consumer base is already there (linux gaming is coming because of this - so will the 3d drivers for linux be improved over time because the market is there).
there are actually a few android gaming devices (especially in china). also the new handheld from nvidia is based on android. i wouldn't say there won't be any real gaming phone in the future.
I believe there will never be another phone with gaming controls built in. As far as buying a regular phone to game on, you can't beat an inexpensive Nexus 4. There's lots of them used up for sale. With a Snapdragon S4 Pro quadcore and 2Gb of ram, it really is a gaming powerhouse. You can't get anything close to that price.

Interesting video but a few thinks wrong no L/R triggers and no joystick/touchpads also its windows but still interesting.
Yeah there are ALOT of android gaming devices but we want a android gaming phone.
Also the xperia play 2 could be thin if if they wanted too. That would also make the phone slightly uncomfortable though, but thats the good thing about android customization and variety it fat phones just down right sicken you then go get a different phone, but i want gaming controls so a fat phone sounds fine to me.
.......................
I'm so confused...
How can they label that a 'Gaming' smartphone? Specifications of other smartphones far surpass that of the XOLO Play and considering it lacks any form of hardware controller it is no different to every other phone that is released at the moment.
Not to mention the 12 core ULV GPU is seriously crap in the Tegra 3. It's not much better than the Adreno 205 in my opinion. CPU is great though...
They got peoples attention lol
I think i'll keep my money for something else
