am wondering if the standard 3.2 honeycomb has support for proxy access that is system wide, i work for a university and that is what they run.
or is this something that is in ics ?
Try the VPN thing in settings, or if you are looking for a general proxy to avoid things (idk what you mean in the OP), try Orbot
when you connect to new WiFi access point- on the window you must enter the access point key. On same window has a field Proxy server settings. To see this window you must delete your wifi network from list known network on tablet menu Settings-Wireless&networks.
p.s. sorry for my bad english

Hi guys,
Well I have searched everywhere and found nothing.
Well my college has wifi but it uses a proxy to access the internet.
So in Internet explorer on my desktop/laptop there is a direct option in the lan settings to specify a proxy ip and prot.
how do i do the same for my xda2s running 5.0.
thanks
Hello,
The way to go about doing this is to set up a proxy server under Start> Setings>Connections>Connections. Under My Work Network, select "Set Up My Proxy Server" and check the boxes for "This Network connects to the internet" and "this network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet". Click on the "advanced" setting which should open up a window where you can choose your proxy port and enter your port address & numbers. Note when using pass through or any other connection that doesnt use the same proxy, make sure you turn your proxy port settings off (by unchecking the "this NW uses proxy port" check box). I hope this solves your problem.
Alternatively, a solution I've found which works is to use Opera Mobile - you can specify an HTTP and/or HTTPS proxy to use (in the form of hostname/iport) and then when you connect it just asks you to authenticate against it and boom: you're good to go.
No more faffing about with My Work Network, half the time I could never get connectivity with my Alpine when I did it like that (which meant it tried to dial up to the GPRS)... However if I'm not using Opera for one reason or another, I will use the My Work Network method with my TyTn. Both ways work just as well, I just think the Opera solution is neater because you can just set all your wifi networks as 'connects to the Internet'.

i think it may work
it worked for me
Hello and sry for my bad Englisch at the beginning.
So my Question ist: Is there any Automaticly Proxy changer, to set up the settings?
If not, then it would be time to create a usefull app.
My Idea is, for example:
You are Connecting you with the internet (wlan) and you have access to the internet at home (without proxy setting), you are going in to school and you must set up the proxysettings. My Idea is, to create an app, that runs in the background, and reads the connectivity status, if for example the phone is connectet to the router xyz, it should automaticly change the proxy settings, if you are at home, and you are connecting to another router, the settings gets resettet.
Is there any app, that can do that?
Or can someone here programm a little useful app for the peoples.
Kind regards
Last time I tried to do something like this, it needed some system protected authorization, I didn't checked again.
Since there is now a UI for that, it may be possible...
Hmm, it should look something like that:
Main (where The Network list is):
img827.imageshack.us/img827/9176/mainfk.png
And the Config Menu (apeears when you select a Network):
img703.imageshack.us/img703/9008/setr.png
The Settings should be saves in an ini file on the sd card.
I am not a good Programmer, and i need help from pros
regards
I recall this being missing in Android 2.x last I dealt with it, but I would have thought they added it by 3.0. And yet I can't find proxy settings anywhere on my newly bought Xoom. Is it just me being blind, or is it really not there?
Yes it is still missing, along with Cisco VPN support...
This makes this tablet pretty useless in a corporate environment... iPad works damnit!
I'm necro'ing this thread, but I found out that HTTP Proxy Settings from the market works just fine to expose the native Setting's Proxy page. I have no idea why it's disabled, but it works just fine for me! I just barely got it working, so I hope the setting is per WiFi network, as I'll have to clear it when I get back home, which would suck.
HTTP Proxy settings is not working with my xoom. Ran the app and it shows a blank Proxy screen.
Restarted Xoom. No change.
Do I need to root?
Not sure if this will work on the Xoom but on my phone I've created a Proxy shortcut using Any Cut. New shortcut > Activity > Proxy. Works well as long as you don't need proxy authentication.
Use Firefox Mobile
Use Firefox mobile and go to the add ons section and install the proxy mobile add-on. After you install it, go to proxy mobile from your add-on and enter your proxy settings.
●●[ROOTED][GUIDE]Wifi Reverse teTher-Windows and Ubuntu-Ad hoc Networks●●
This guide teaches you to reverse tether your Android phone via WiFi. That is, it allows you to use your Ethernet connection of PC on your Android phone. It is useful for those who do not have WiFi routers and data connection. So if you have unlimited data plan for your computer, why not share the connection with your phone?
I am not the developer of the files supplied
Requirements:-
1.Rooted Phone
2.Wifi enabled Laptop or PC
3.Root explorer or any other application which gives system access
4.File in the attachement
Procedure :-
Phone:
Download Wpa_supplicant.zip and extract "wpa_supplicant" from it, save it on your SD card.
Open Root Explorer, and grant it superuser access when asked for.
Navigate to system -> bin and long press on wpa_supplicant; Select copy, and paste the file into any folder on your SD card.
Now navigate to the file you downloaded, copy it in same way, and paste it back to system -> bin. Note, you might need to mount the system as R/W instead of R/O by pressing a button on the top just before pasting the file.
Reboot.
▬▬Ubuntu (Must work for other Linux Distros too)▬▬:
Open Network Connections
Goto Wireless tab, select add, and set the following:
SSID:
Mode: Ad hoc
Leave other things unchanged, and go to Ipv4 settings tab
Set method to Shared to other computers
Go to Wireless security tab and set Security to WEP 40/128 bit key and set key to a numeric password (or hexadecimal one).
Check the connect automatically box on top of the tabs and press Save.
Your Android phone must now detect this network, and you can establish the connection by using your security key.
▬▬Windows XP, Vista, 7▬▬
Download and Install Connectify from www . connectify.me/download-lite/
Start Connectify Hotspot by giving a name and password to your hotspot and selecting the Ethernet connection to share. Make sure the security type is WEP or Open.
Disable your firewall (Simply adding it to exceptions doesn't work for AVG at least)
Now your phone should be able to see the hotspot and establish the connection using the password set.
Known Issues :
1.Random disconnections (Very less frequency)
2.Disconnections due to screen lock / sleep on laptop
3.For me Security mode does not works
HIT THANKS IF IT WORKED
ENJOY
I think there is an easier way for windows although I cant test it right now.
In network settingfind option to create new network. Create an ad-hoc network.
In start menu search for "network connection".
In network connections, highlight both the network you just created and the network that your internet comes from.
Right click and select bridge networks.
Shouldn't require doing anything to your phone or even being rooted. As I said I havn't tested this but I don't see why it would not work.
Does anyone know if there is a way to reverse tether over USB?

For USB tethering there are many third party application in play store.
And I have seen in many devices that after creating ad-hoc network also ... the device doesn't gets connected to internet.

Even if the network is bridged to a regular internet network?
I guess you missed attaching the files needed. even though they are included in the link in your signature about the same thread in other forum

Hi all. I have been trying for a long time to get the internet to work (on my Samsung Galaxy S II) while being connected to my university's WiFi. My university provides passwords to some of it's access points. I successfully connected to the access point (Student), but the internet didn't not work. Also connected to a second access point, still nothing
My university runs on a proxy network and so certain details need to be entered into the device's browser. The proxy settings for my university's internet are: Address: proxy.xx.yy (second and third set hidden for privacy) and Port: 8080. My friend got his internet working on his iPhone, as there was a screen to add these proxy settings. People have also got the internet to work on their laptops by entering those settings. However I have looked everywhere but can't seem to find the proxy settings screen on my Galaxy S II. Help would be much appreciated.
Add a Wi-Fi network under Wi-Fi settings (not sure which Android version you have as I'm going off of CM 10.1) and there is a checkbox for advanced options then it should be there.

I found those options and got the internet working. Thanks. However only my default internet browser works. Firefox, skype, whatsapp and other apps dont work. What method can I use to rectify this?
